IWP Newbie - fundamental Q's

Featured Replies

Hi - I'm a total beginner when it comes to Filemaker IWP. Basically I have a database I want a very few other people to be able to access and contribute to online. I've read the directions about setting up IWP panel and it seems to make sense, and the file functions okay when I try it out on a browser just using http://localhost.

. . . but I have a big conceptual gap about actually hosting it and providing the URL to others. I'm not going to run my own computer 24/7 to host the file, but rather want to put it up on in the same webspace my ISP provides me for web-pages, like this one:

http://www.mindspring.com/~asteg/Zampano.html

It doesn't seem to be as simple as just uploading the file and accessing it similarly as for instance:

http://www.mindspring.com/~asteg/DatabaseName.fp7

. . . but I'm just in the dark as to what *is* the proper appraoch. The Help pages and texts I have don't seem to address this half of the equation. Apologies if this is really basic, but I'm finding it very non-obvious.

Albert,

You need to find a hosting provider that can host a FileMaker database (one that runs FileMaker Server). Most web hosting providers don't do this - I doubt MindSpring does but you'd have to ask them to be certain.

Try www.pointinspace.com or www.fmgateway.com
