Multiple Log Ins Cause Issues?

Featured Replies

I hope I can describe this: do you create problems if you are logged into a database on your desktop as well as via IWP? I have a business database (time and expenses, invoicing, job costs, etc.) that I run on FM9, with 5 other users on a local Mac network. I'd like to publish to the web, so I can access the database from home and get some work done. I tried it at the office, logged in using a IWP and recorded my time for the day, but I was also logged into the database on my desktop. When I checked the time record to make sure the entries had been recorded, I found that the appeared correctly in all the job files, but the layout used to enter time did not show the new record on my desktop. Make sense?

To answer your first question, no as far as I know it doesn't cause problems being logged in via IWP and your desktop version.

When you added the new record and went looking for it on your desktop copy, did you press Apple J? When you add a new record it won't automatically add it to the bottom of your found set.

Also, a note on IWP. It really isn't that great to use for data look up and entry. You would be better adding port forwarding to your server and accessing it over a the IP address or use a VPN.

Of course you would need another FMP license to work FMP remotely, whilst IWP is FREE.

FWIW I have recently made a complete small business solution which was deliberately designed to use IWP internal or external - my client is delighted.

Thank you; yes, Command J (what is that, a sort command?) did the trick. Regarding VPN, I found it to exceptionally slow; almost unusable. I have a DSL modem that I have to go through, and it does work to log in remotely, but the last time I tried it was way too slow. I also have the Apple Back to Mac function, which I have not tried but I assume this will also be slow.
