    Bruce, I did read the entire post. I'm not challenging anything. Just asking a question and hoping to learn something I don't know. The first sentence of my post says this clearly! Cheers, Rick.

    Well: what is the client? The client, these days, can be WebDirect or Go, as well as FileMaker Pro.

    WebDirect doesn't support printing or preview. 

    Here's a scenario that forced us to use a robot client. User enters info into web form. We want to send confirmation email with PDF attachment of their submitted "application."
