Connection failures

I'm running FMPro Server 5, with clients running MacOS version 5.5. TCP/IP is the default protocol.

To make it easy for users to connect to databases on the server, I have small databases they keep on their computers, with buttons activating scripts that open the served database for them - saves them navigating their way through open dialogue boxes.

But for some users, the first time they try to open one of these databases, FMPro tells them it can't find the database. They cancel their way out of the script, and then try again, and there it is.

This can get pretty annoying - has anyone else seen this? Any hope of a solution?

This sounds like a network problem. Depending on the distance involved between the users and the server and the type of network wiring you are using. If your set up is for Cat 5, make sure that RJ45 pins 3 and 6 are using a twisted pair. This sort of problem has cropped up here and was resolved by correcting the wiring sequence. This is especially noticable when there is over 100 ft of wiring involved.

If the FMS is not seen as a "Local Host" for that machine, it may not find the file on the server. I recommend "hard wiring" the IP address of the server in the Open File script step - that way, if the server is on the network, the client will find the file.
