Ok, this is an old question, but maybe 7 changed something. I have a multi user database (can't use FM Dev) that is used by 10 people. I want to have FMPro auto open a remote database on a FMServer when it starts. I am currently using a local file which opens and is scripted to open the remote file, but this is just anoying and leaves me with another open file and window which seems to slow FM7. Any new options in FM7?

Hi there, My company have just bought Filemaker Server 7 and Server 7 Advanced and it is driving me crazy . I've installed FM Server and IWP on windows 2003 Server. When I try from my workstation to open our database remotely everything works fine. When I try to access it via HTTP from our LAN then it asks me for a username and password!!! I think its an IIS issue but I checked in the IIS Manager and it has nothing to do with my filemaker file. Also as we are working from our LAN our workstations have access to our intranet with no problem(hosted by IIS). Why in the name of god this thing is asking for a password??? Any help will be appreciated.

I recently just created a new database that is related to an existing hosted database. When I bring the database to the server and tell the server to open it, it does nothing. and so far we are unable to use the relational database. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? Also when I go to administration on the server and activate remote administration and enter the password, restart the server, it doesn't stay in remote it clicks back to disable remote login. Thanks for the help

Hi, Not sure if i'm allowed to post my question here because it concerns FMPro's peer-to-peer capabilities and not FM Server really. I have the following situation. An Xserve server and 2 clients, an imac 17" and an ibook, both running Mac OsX version 10.2.8 (being the minimum for FM Pro 7). I've installed one serial number on the server and two different serial numbers on the clients. So, no serial conflicts whatsoever. I've openend 12 databases on the server and enabled TCP/IP sharing. I made sure the databases are accessible to "all users" and they are not marked hidden in the hosts list. I have also disabled all firewall software on both clients. All Fm…

I have a question about hardware requirements for Server 7. I would like to host server on an Apple EMac. They sell a box with a 1.25GHz PowerPC G4. It has a 40 gig harddrive and 256 mb ram. I am envisioning as many as ten client stations, possibly also being made up of EMacs. I have a cabinetshop and what I am trying to do is get my solution launched for as small dollars as possible. If it works well I could justify upgrading the server. Would an Emac be appropriate for a starter server? Thanks, Jarvis PS: As a side note: I have an IMAC in the shop right now that I originally ordered the first day they were available for sa…

I need to AppleScript the closing of served files when the power fails. My power supply can trigger an AppleScript which can call a Terminal shell script that can close the files, to allow an elegant shut down when needed. I can do all but the last step, I have no UNIX training and wonder if anyone else has done this to help me along.

Hi, I was wondering whether it's possible for FM7 Developer and FM7 Server or advanced Server to be installed on the same Windows XP box. My XP Box has 512mb ram and 80+GB, i'm just using it for testing really. so, can I install fm7 server on the same machine as fm7 developer or will there be problems? again I'm just using this for some testing.. I'm hoping to connect my mac to the windows xp box. Can i just plug my mac into the windows box via the tcp/ip and connect to fm7 Server? is this viable? thanks so much for the help in advance, sincerely, J__

Our Filemaker server runnning on Win2k goes to 100% processor for an amount of time and is then ok for a while then jumps up again and stays there for as long as 20 minutes and then returns to normal the "System" process is at 99%. We can not find any related messages in the event log. This has been working fine for 6 months or longer until now. Any ideas.

Hello, I have a question that seems simple, but I can't find an answer in FileMaker's documentation or through a web search. I would like to add a database file to my FileMaker Server 5.5 directory. When you add a file, do you have to stop FileMaker Server from running using FMServer Config, or can you just ask all of your users to log out and then add the file to the appropriate folder? Or, does adding a file require none of the above? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a SBS2003 server that currently only serves a small workgroup for file sharing and printing, i.e., Exchange is not being used. I'd like to add FMP7 Server to this box. After reading through the postings on various FMP forums, it seems to me that FMP7 Server will run on a Windows SBS 2003 server, although FMP is not 'tested' nor recommended by FM for this configuration. Does anyone have any experience with running FMP7 Server on a Windows SBS 2003? I'm curious if there are any issues?

I've recently been attempting to upgrade our FM setup from Server 3 on ASIP to Server 7 Advanced on OS X. I managed to get the databases converted, etc, but am having a pain of a permissions problem. Databases are in the default database folder. Permissions are set so that the fmsadmin group has read and write (I even tried giving Everybody read & write) on both the fp7 files and enclosing folders. For some reason, the fm daemon opens the databases as read-only, so I'm unable to modify them in any way. Files are not locked, checked and re-checked permissions, etc, etc. Any ideas? This one's driving me nuts, and I've gotta have the upgrade rolled out…

We have been having a couple of weird problems while using FMServer 5.5v1 on a Windows 2000 box. Every once in awhile one particular database file stops being hosted by Filemaker Server and the only way to get FMServer to host it again is by stopping and starting the service. I have tried using the command line FMServer open as this file in one level down from the actual filemaker directory but this does not work. I should mention that the install went perfect - all files were hosted and everything worked well for two weeks until this scenario happened. We then stopped the service and tried to start it again and it would not fire up until we specified "run as..."…

I've got Server 5.5 on a Windows server box. I'm hosting serveral files on it, and everything is A-OK. All of the hosted files were constructed using Dev. 6. I recently modified one of the files so that it can export the contents of a field to a plain text file. I has to use a XSL stylesheet to export the text correctly (look at this post for more info concerning that) - http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB13&Number=132991 I'm able to open all of the other files fine, but this new XSL file just refuses to be opened. I made sure in the properties of Server that the file extension was in the 'Registered File Types", but to …

I'm running FIlemaker server 5.5v4 on Mac OS X Panther 10.3.5. After years of humming along fine, suddenly my server hosted files (aliases of which are all inside a sub-folder of the mail FM server app folder) will not open. When I click the "Start Server" button in the FM server app, it reports after a few moments that the server has started, but then no databases area available on the network - nor is the server available for administration like it usually is. The files open fine if I stop FM server and open the files locally using FM client on the server computer itself (no error messages about being closed incorrectly). I have FM server configured to allow hos…

Recently the shared database files running on FileMaker Server 5 on Windows NT have disappeared from the Remote Hosts open screen. Neither the server nor the shared file appears. The auto-opener file I have distributed to all my users simply fails. The files are still being hosted, but the only way to bring them up is to Specify Host... and enter the IP address of the computer hosting FM Server. I have witnessed this behavior before on my Mac (OS 9), but only sporadically. Yesterday I noticed it on a Windows computer, and today, it appears to have affected the entire network. I was messing around with my Scheduled Task backup file and the computer's clock (i…

Hi everyone, I'm about to shoot myself just trying to install FileMaker Server 7 Advanced. Here's my setup: Xserve running OS X Server 10.3.5, fully updated. 2GHz G5, 2GB RAM. Services running: AFP, Apache (completely default), and FIleMaker Server 7. That's it. (FWIW, all appropriate ports open on our firewall.) This Xserve is basically brand new. I've been running FileMaker Server forever, and upgraded to FIleMaker Server 7 about 2 months ago. Thus far it's been running great. We're putting up a new web site that will require a bit of integration with FileMaker Server. So, I had to purchase the Advanced add-on. FM Server 7 and the A…

We have installed Filemaker Server 7 on a Windows 2003 server and upgraded our database from ver 5.5. We are able to access the databases using Remote access and standard Filemaker Log In. However I am trying to implement the External Server Authentication through the Active Directory which exists on a separate server (Win 2K) I have setup several groups with users in them in active directory and created matching accounts within the database. However when all users (except the administrator) try to log on they get the following error message: "Your Access priviliges do not allow you to complete this action." Hi: We've recently installed Server 7 Advanced on a machine running OS X 10.3.5, but we are having trouble getting the Custom Web Publishing to work correctly. I have FMP Server 5.5 running on an Xserve DP G5 with 4 gig RAM. All clients are a mix of Panther, Jaguar, & OS 9.2.2. I have 2 sites accessing these databases. Host & Remote. The remote site is connected via a PTP full T1. There is a significant bottleneck at the remote site when viewing records in any of these databases. Does anyone have a clue whiy the users at the host site see none of this (execept for the obvious 10/100 LAN versus the 1.5 mpbs on the T1) and the remote site users may wait up to 2 minutes to move from one record to the next? Any advice would certainly be welcomed! Puzzled in Indiana ToddGee

I have a bizarre problem that I cannot figure out. Two days ago, I was working on a script of two related files of a 13 file DB hosted on a win Filemaker server (posted this on the FM 5-6 forum also as I am not sure if the problem is client or server side). While creating some calculation files for the script I noticed that performance had severely bogged down when clicking done - when the changes were written to disk. Creating a relatively simple calculation and committing that change took 10-15 seconds, a far cry from the relatively quick time this usually takes. Each record in this particular file has an image field stored in the db originating from jpegs and tifs…

We are having trouble setting up FileMaker Server 7 Advanced (the Web publishing engine). Installation runs smooth. The ID and passcode are set in the server admin. The first time the publishing engine admin is run (localhost/fmi/config) it prompts for the admin username/password, the publishing engine server address (localhost) and the web publishing engine username/password. The initial admin screen is good. Continuing on to the web publishing engine configuration asks for the publishing engine server address and then enter the username/password for the publishing engine. It then claims the username and/or password is not valid. We have tried this on two separate…

Hello, I currently have a FM Server version 5 on a windows 2000 computer, and would like to transfer the database on that server to another server that has FM Server version 7. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to transfer the database from one to the other, since the file formats are different. All my clients are on FileMaker 6 and the server is FileMaker 5. I have approximately 25 clients accessing a multi database solution. When one of the clients opens a particular database it takes it 45 minutes to open and the rest of the databases open fine. All of the other clients have no problems opening this or other databases. This problem has progressively gotten worse. Started out taking 20 minutes and is now up to 50 minutes. I suggested he move computer to another LAN connection and he still has the same problem. Hello there, I am not sure if this is the best place to post this - I couldn't see a forum that it seemed entirely appropriate to. Anyways... I wanted to see if it is possible to create desktop/start menu shortcuts on a client machine to a hosted database served from FMP server. We are using windows 2000 and fmp6. My clients are getting fed up having to open fmp, then go to hosts, then select the database. There has to be an easier way! I also have a couple of clients on mac so if you have any ideas on that too that would be great. Thanks in advance, Thomas

Hi, FileMaker Server 5.5 I've currently got an overnight scripted FTP backup of our database setup and it works ok. I was wondering if anyone else here had a backup running through FTP? What tools in windows did you use to script it? Basically I run a local backup of the databases then trigger an external script to run. I use a free scripting engine called AutoIt and basically I just send keystrokes to the windows ftp command-line program - but this tends not to be very reliable. Not very good for an offsite backup!! If there's any kind of error there's no way for my script to recover - and there's no way using AutoIt for me to get the erro…

Hi: Can anyone help me? My story: I have a single-processor G4 667MHz with 1GB of RAM that I wanted to turn into a dedicated FileMaker server. Hi, I have a client that has a Dual 1ghz Mac OS X server with 768mb ram. So I took delivery of a new machine to run FileMaker Server for one of my clients today! (Server 5.5 and Windows 2000 Server) It's pretty good!! Two 10,000 RPM SATA drives striped gives it mental performance. What utils can I use to monitor performance of the server? Obviously taskmgr and the performance console of filemaker server gives you some filemaker server-specific stats. Just wondered what everyone else used to monitor their filemaker servers? Thanks Ben

this is becoming a problem. i have a development server set up with three drives: one for OS/apps and two in a RAID1 mirror for data. i can't get my FileMaker Server to recognize the RAID path to the databases as the alternate database location. what do i have to do to make FMS7 recognize the path? or do the databases HAVE to reside on the same drive as the server app? i'm going to have a lot of problems rolling out new systems if i can't get this to work. thanks in advance!

Perhaps others know this, but this stumped me for a while. To use other backup folders in your backup schedule, make sure you do these things: 1. Get Info on the folder, and make sure you set it's owner to 'fmserver' and group to 'fmsadmin' 2. Make sure you include the trailing slash '/' in the path name Also, watch these things: 1. when you tab out of the field, it will say "Path valid" or "Invalid" 2. Manually trigger the script (action menu) just to make sure it worked.

I work with a non-profit youth ministry. We do not have the financial resources to pay for an optimal environment in most "recommended practices'. Currently, we are using a G4 eMac 1GHz w/ 768 MB ram with OsX 10.3.5 as our simple 'server'. We'll have about 15 clients connecting using FM6, all with only light use. Probably no more than 5 at any one time. Mainly due to cost factors, we'd like to only use one machine for all the below. Here are a few of my questions: 1) we are using this computer for a small email server that automatically checks email (Entourage) every 3 minutes. I've been told that the Client and Server versions of Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" are basically the same except that the server version includes more administration tools. Filemaker recommends both operating systems versions for Filemaker Pro 7 Server Advanced. Is there a major benefit of one operating system over the other in terms of running Filemaker Pro 7 Server Advanced? If so does it matter if you use the Mac OS Server 10 client limit version as opposed to the unlimited client version? From my understanding the 10 client limit applies only to file sharing but I'm not sure if that would be a factor affecting Filemaker Pro 7 Advanced ability to host files to more than 10 …

I'm completely new to filemaker, and I can't find much information thats simple and direct for a newcomer. Basically, I have a network of several macs running os x 10.3.5. It would be helpful if we could all access and amend/add data to the same database (and possibly one or two other databases in the future). What is the benefit to using Filemaker server, and is it the software I would need for the set-up I've mentioned? Do you need to install both Filemaker Pro and Filemaker Server on the machine that will be hosting the database? If anyone is willing to spend the time giving me a basically overview of how it all works, I'd really really appreciate it! :

Hi, How do I pass data from form fields inside a simple html page to a filemaker database? Right now our web page is being hosted on a separate IP and I would need to make a call to our database which is on another separate IP and insert the records the user typed in on our web form into our database automatically and then return to a thank you page. Error checking would be nice but is not required. That's it. How the heck do I do that? Thanks in advance! Eric...

Hi again, Another problem I have with FM Server Advanced on a Mac (OSX) is that the backups do not work when going to a zip disk or a USB flash drive. The backups work fine when they are directed at a directory on the hard disk of the computer. When the backups are pointed at the zip or the flash drive, nothing appears. I don't see any errors in the events log (not a surprise). Is there some other place I should be looking? These are both USB devices. Maybe that has something to do with it? Although I doubt that. I have Mac OS-X 10.2, Filemaker Server 5.5v4. Any ideas? Thanks! Jim Shain

I have setup Filemaker Server 7 on an OS X Server (10.2.8) along with the Web Publishing Engine. So far so good, we have several databases being server locally throughout our company without any major problems. I do have one simple question. I currently have serveral databases shared via the web publishing engine. Each of these databases has a 'Guest' account with limited privileges available. When accessing these databases with a browser, users are automatically logged in a 'Guest.' This is perfect. The problem is when I want to access the database using a different account. I can't find anyway to login to the databases via a web browser when a guest account is enab…

My copy of Fm Server has stopped creating backups of the databases to the backup directory. It was working up until about a month ago. I have a script that should perform the backup every morning. I have tried recreating the script, restarting the server, making the directories world readable/writable, and restarting the machine. Nothing has worked. My copy of Filemaker Server is started up automatically by FM Start, which I haven't quite figured out how to stop. Nevertheless, FM Start does start FM server up when the machine is rebooted. Any ideas? Thanks! Jim Shain

I have a set of FMP files that have been running on a server for three years without any problems at all. There is a "guardian" file that the server manager has comtrol of and can add more users and give them passwords and case manager numbers without needing me! :-) After the guardian file checks them out they click on the button that opens the main database pastes the current date and finds the recors the particular user is allowed to view as set in the access privileges. Example, If the case manager number of the current user equals the case manager of a record, that user can browse the data as well as edit it. Everything worked fine until they purchased new …

I'm building a new server for a client. They are requesting that the machine be a PC running Windows. The machine will be used as an in-house development machine serving a few applications with the possibility of a few external connections. I'm would like to build a AMD 64-bit machine to give them good performance now with the option of better performance when 64-bit versions of the OS and FM get released. My question is: which OS would be best suited for this install? Would Win2003 be overkill? Will XP be enough? What would be the advantages of using one over the other? Disclaimer. I have not used a version of Windows since 1999, WinNT, so I've been …

Usually when I go to Open host I can see my 4 servers on local host but then after a while some how it disappears and I cant see them. If i specify host I can find the server and get into my files but it still doesn't show up on local host. The 2 server using windows nt doesn't disappear but the other 2 using windows server 2000 comes and goes from the local host. does anyone know why this happens and how i can fix this so that all my servers show up on local host. thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm completely new to OS X server and Filemaker Server 5.5 v4/ FM6. I've never used an OS server in my life nor managed a database, but I'm familiar with macs and have a basic understanding of how to use OSX. I'm a physical therapist and I'm in the early stages of planning my own private practice. I decided that macs were the only way to go in terms of stability and user friendliness and I looked for the best software packages available to suit my needs. I found a patient scheduling, billing, and point of sale program from a company that built the database file with FM6. I also plan to use the network version of Accountedge as my accounting package. The …

I am preparing to move to version 7. Presently the machine I am using to serve is G4 766. Will this be fast enough, should I get a G5, do I need a DP 2.5 or would a dual processor 1.8 be sufficient? Solution consists of two files, one with almost 20 tables and 200,000 records. The other has about 10 gbyte of images (scanned material).

Here is the question... Without using a copy of FileMaker 7 Pro, how can FileMaker 7 Server Advanced send an email. Rules: Can use MacOS X, preferably MacOS X Server. Solution is not to require a user to be logged in. Solution can have any module/element (short of FM 7 Server) crash and be restarted, and the solution will begin to function again. I have a few ideas, I would like to get other people's opinions and feed back before I post my ideas (My idea is untested and may not be the best way....)

We've been using Filemaker 6 to store student data for advising students (what classes students are taking, what requriements they still need to complete, etc.). After applying the latest security patch to OSX ( 04 Oct 2004) to our server machine, no other machine can open databases remotely hosted on this machine. Also, web companion no longer works on machines with the security patch. That is: Machine X (latest OSX security patch installed) Machine Y (latest OSX security patch *not* installed) Databases served on Machine X *cannot* be opened remotely on machine Y Databases served on Machine Y *can* be opened remotely on machine X Databas…

I haven't seen this on the forums, so i'll throw it out there: THE FACTS: We have a customer who is set up with FM Server 5.5 and three FMP 6 licenses on workstations, all Windows. Our application ships with an opener file for workstations which looks for a file across the network using the usual Filemaker multicast (that is, no IP address specified). Monday, all three users were able to connect. Tuesday, one user had XP Service Pack 2 installed. Wednesday, that user was unable to connect in the normal way, but the other two users were able to connect. We resolved the situation by modifying the affected user's opener file to specify the IP address of t…

We are running 63 files on FMP sever 5.5 on a xserve (1Ghz, RAM 1 GB, 6 clients all macintosh) It very often (several times a day) crashes, closing the connection on each client. The log diplays: file <one of the files, different each time> has been closed due to serious error. And the closed file is, of course, corrupted after beeing closed. The pb can apparently happen without anybody doing a "special" operation Since yesterday, we have tried to run our base on FMP6, no pb except we are 6 and the non server version allows only 5 connections... Please help!! Pierre

I have a FileMaker 5.5 database shared from a WIndows 2000 Server (not a domain yet) I had the database open on the server so it would be the host but anyone else that opens the database can't do anything. The front desk person opened the database, hit Ctrl+F to search, and when trying to key a last name to search it pops up with "Field is not modifiable" The file is NOT Read-Only, I have given full permissions to the share for Everyone. I don't know what the problem is. I'm not a FileMaker guru at all... I'm a network tech and system admin. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Using the two server configuration with Server 7 Advanced, I want to have one machine with Filemaker Server and the web publishing core, then I want to use our company's current IIS server for the web server, hoping they will agree to install the administration console on this machine as well. Just wanted to make sure that Filemaker can share the IIS web server with all the ASP apps our company uses, or does it have to have its own? Also I'm curious if anybody knows if there would be a problem with installing the administration console on our web server. Would it take too much resources, slow down the server, etc.

Good morning, Our company currently has a high number of FMP 5.0 DB's with no planned upgrade to 7. That said, we are running the 5.0 server software and need to purchase another copy for installation on a desktop device that will host the files as opposed to our server that hosts the other files (long story). Is the Server 7.0 software compatable with FMP 5.0 DB's or must we purchase another copy of server 5.0? Since we are looking to install the server software on a Desktop Device running Windows 2000 Pro/XP, I see the documentation states there is a 10 user limit. Is this limit valid or can we have 40 users hosting to the desktop device? Is the up…

Has anyone experimented with Flash as an interface? What middleware would be required? In reading through the documentation: Data Storage in Online Databases If you need to access evolving information such as stock quotes, account information, and product orders, you need to store your data in an online database. There are several database applications that range in complexity and price, from Oracle to MS Access to FileMaker Pro. Usually, you need to integrate another software application (known as middleware or application servers) to retrieve and format data from the database for use in Flash movies or other Web applications. Examples of languages c…

Hosting ~35 databases on Windows NT via FileMaker Server 5. Paused backups are scheduled at 11:45 AM and 5:00 PM. Files get copied onto a separate network volume. I checked the backup log and no irregularites could be found. When I copy my backup files to a laptop for temporary use at an on-site trip, I open the files and set them all to Single User status via linked scripts. I've been doing this successfully for a year or so. But today, when the script gets to a particular file, the Set Multi-User[Off] script function fails and the following error message is generated: I get the same error when I manually go to File > Sharing... and select Singl…

I have 5 databases in tied together via various relations. When I put the db's on the server and go through all the scripts with the sort steps, etc everything works fine. Then I serve them and our clients can open them on their desktops. But even though they're open all the relationships are missing. If I go into the "master" file of the 5 and look for the relationships it says "file missing" and so in essence the client is looking at 5 independent databases rather than 5 related db's. Any idea what I've missed? Thank you.

So this isn't exactly a FileMaker Server question, but... I'm upgrading a computer here to OS X Server (10.3). This computer is almost a dedicated server, but still needs to be used occaisionaly for a few tasks. I want to secure FM7 so it's not messed with, so I'm thnking that I'll create a FileMaker user, and keep that used logged in and running FM7 while someone else can log in via Fast User Switching. How does this sound? Is there any reason why this might not work well? Thanks

I have a small local network with FM Server 5. As I'm actually "switching" on FM Server 7, I wonder if I can run FM Server 7 (installed on another Mac) on the *same* local network in order to make some test. Do you think it's risky ? Is there some possibilities that FMP clent 5 and FMP client 7 "mix" sended/received data ? Databases are indentical - of course, the new ones were converted to 7 format. Thanx for your help.

We have set up a RAIC for our filemaker database, entered all the information into the web conector (server IP and file name) and all is working fine (except for the clients hitting 100% CPU which seems to be a common problem) But my problem seems to be the web connector losing the Ip and file name information if the server is turned off / rebooted or IIS is stopped. When the server is brought back up, we have to enter all the details again to get the RAIC working. How can I save the information so we don't lose it! Very frustrating....

Here is a question concerning power outages. We have been having a few lately. I just bought a new APC UPS. It can connect the the server via USB cable. It can then safely shut down the server before the battery runs dry. But because FM Server is not applescript compatible, how would I go about being able to tell FM Server to stop serving the files, thus avoiding file corruption before the server shuts down? Also, what about automating FM Server to start serving files once the server is re-started? Larry

Currently our organization uses Windows 2000 Terminal Server to host our Filemaker databases. The HUGE drawback we face with this setup is the multi-user capabilities that [seem to] lack. All the files we require to be multi-user are setup as multi-user and anyone working within the LAN can open multi-user files. Remote users can open files, but once they have a file open, it is not accessible by anyone else, until the remote user closes the file. This is causing us big problems and we are looking at our options in removing this holdback. I would appreciate some feedback as to how others are using Terminal Server and FM Server 5.5 and if a solution is even in existence to…

HI Guys, I've got an application which I've developed and I'm going to be hosting it on a Windows 2000 based server using FM Server 5.5. My solution is using a plugin called SyncDeK (www.worldsync.com) which synchronises the database with remote users. My problem is that internally (users on the lan) are only running Mac OS9 and SyncDeK works with Mac OSX or Windows 2000. Due to issues beyond my control, I cant expect my 10 users to upgrade to OS X, so my only option with the current rig is to run the SyncDeK service on the Server machine that will also be hosting my files, which means I need the FM Pro app installed and running at the same time as FM Server. I'…

Hi, We have a system which consists of 75 hosted databases. About four of these databases are around the 1gb mark and the rest a no bigger than 200mb. We migrated our system from a mac server to Windows NT in around 2000 and this solved our stability problems. Then in early 2001 we migrated to Windows 2000 and have been running fine until about a month ago. We upgraded our server earlier this year to an Intel Xeon based system, processor running at 2.8ghz and we have run fine on this system for about 5 months. Currently when ever any major tasks are being performed on the system (find's, updating of information) the service will quit. The message in…

I just inherited a Mac OSX server which is running FMP Server 5.5. I know it is running because the files are located on the machine and I can access the files remotely at the computer's IP. However, while on the server itself, I cannot tell that the app is running. The FMP config screen does not appear in the Dock. Moreover, when I launch the FMP config, it appears with the file diagram appearing "down" and the button says "Start Server". Is it set up as a service? Is that possible with a Mac? Perhaps this is an elementary question. Could someone point me towards an article or give me a quick pointer or two on getting control of the app. There is onl…

I'm trying to setup FMServer 7 on OSX to host FM databases for my users, who will be connecting to the server using FMPro 7, also on OSX. I've configured an additional database folder on my server to serve up the files, and put a copy of an existing FMPro 7 db in to test to see if the clients can open it remotely. When I go to a client and use "Open Remote File" to try and open my test db, the only db that is listed is the sample one included with the server - my test database doesn't show up. Does anyone have experience using Filemaker Server 7 with External Server accounts? I can't get it to work.
