It has been a while since I was on this forum. I am looking for some suggestions. I just upgraded to Catalina (soon to Big Sur) on my MAC. Is there a version of FMP that is compatible with either Catalina or Big Sur? Believe it or not, I am still using FMP-9 on an older MAC.

Hi everyone, I am new here. I just began working with a project that has been using FileMaker Server 9 and Pro 9. The current architecture uses one machine deployment but the machine is quite ancient and doesn't support any micro-frameworks that eases my web development duties. I wanted to split this architecture to a multi machine deployment this ancient machine having only the Database, another better machine having a webserver and/or a web publishing engine. The reasoning behind this being that I can use a webserver(Gunicorn + Flask) and use PyFileMaker to obtain my data from the DB using XML. I, however, realize that the web publishing engine is required at…

How do I create a hard or soft return in my calculation? I have two different fields in one calculation but I want them spaced out with a sharp return. ex: data1field1 ¶ data1field2 ¶ does not work as easily as I expected. The message says "An Operator (e.g +,-,*,...) is expected here."

Utilizing a contact management db with a SIP-based (VOIP) phone system. This runs on FMPS 9-12 currently. I know I can convert 12 to run on the server, but is there a way to do this on 9 or 10? We have click-thrus on screen, for the user to have his phone automatically dial a phone# in the current record (he chooses any of the 8 fields which house phone #s).... The method of this is run thru an Applescript, residing on the client machine and running from the client machine. It feeds a code to the local VOIP server, which then triggers the phone call. Several challenges: new client boxes have to be 'key'd" to the VOIP server, they also sometimes "glitc…

I have one server still on server 9. If I'm on a workstation I can open a remote file and see all the files on the server and open them. However, when I log into the admin console and look at databases, it says 0 and doesn't show any. In the database directory, all my files are still there. Even the backups stopped working. I do get some error messages. I'm in the midst of converting some files to server 12 but I can't stop them on the console. Also, I tried to stop the database server (figured I'd try to start it up again) and it gives me an error and doesn't do it. HELP!!

Hello, I have had to open another server location that I CANNOT set up with a static IP address. This location is where I'm going to install FMS 9.0 (hopefully). I'm interested in seeing if it's possible to bypass the static IP issue for FMS by setting up a VPN network so that the server and clients think they're on the same private side of a LAN. Having never studied, setup, diagnosed or otherwise ever touched VPN, I'm very much in the dark on the feasibility and ease to do this. I know the filemaker Go clients might be an issue with this setup, given the VPN limitations I'm sure apple built into IOS. Here's other relevant details below: Server: intel Duo MacMini…

I just virtualized our FM9 Server on a 2003 server (will be bringing up a new 2012 server for FM12 server later). From a physical workstation I can access the hosted files on the server but on a Windows 7 virtual machine, I cannot. I can ping the server but cannot see any hosted files on the virtual server from the virtual desktop. The virtual client machine is using a DHCP ip setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, This looks strange to me last day when I found that our backup copy size just getting smaller recently. We host our databases using FMS 9 and schedule daily backup at non-peak hour over the night. One of the database file size is pretty large, which overs 2.5G in size. Our usual backup practice is to use FMS to run scheduled backup task and run script to zip the backup copy to a zipped file and copy it to an remote storage using some simple OS script. I found that the zip file size is reducing quite a lot recently, say from 1.92G to 1.86G. I thought my users must have deleted records with container fields content. After checking around, they said no ma…

Hi all, Got myself in trouble yesterday. Hope there is a solution. I know I have obsolete material but it works for my needs. Hardware/software : xp pro sp3 up to date as of 2013/05/05 fms9.0.3 jre6u7 firefox 20.0.1 Situation : For the past few months I had no access (on my fms box) to fmadmin as I had inadvertedly updated my jre to an update that made my fmadmin to crash whenever I tried to select a specific hosted database. So yesterday, I tried removing that jre to replace it with jre6u7 which I know is the last one to work with fms9. As it didn't want to get deleted, after googling, I decided to use microsoft's fixit and I removed it but I a…

Hello, We have a Filemaker server 9 on an Mac Xserve. This is all working fine, but I can't acces the controll panel. I tried googling it and no correct solution for me. This is what I've got: Filemaker Server 9 (fully updated to 9.0.3.325) J2SE 5.0 So when I go to localhost:16000 and I click on the 'start admin console' button, It downloads the a file that starts up the 'FMS9-...' application. I click to allow the certificate, but then I get this error log: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccesorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) with a lot of error lines. I also tried opening the app on a windows machine (7) with the Java 6 (u…

Our old Power PC server crashed, so I installed fms9 on a 10.6 Intel box, and copied the Data folder over. At startup Admin server console wouldn't start. I checked the forums ansd followed advice to clear Java cache. That worked. Sort of. Now the conswole tries to start up but says "Database server not running." Found the same issue in the forums for FMS10. As in that case, the server *is* running and clients can open databases. As the old poster said, "For a server that's not running it gives a good impression of one that is." One solutiion offered was that there might be two versions of Filoemaker Server running. The previous poster killed one ansd said the proble…

Hi All I posted this on TechNet, but want to try you guys as well. We have a very busy production server running FMSA9 on Windows Server 2003 (yeah, go tell it to our IT department) and twice this week users have lost the ability to acquire the server. What we see is this: Users with no files open on the server cannot see the server. Users with any file open on the server can see all the files on the server. Users with any file open on the server can work as normal. Admin can run the console remotely (but a bit slow). Admin can RDC into the server normally. Rebooting the server solves the problem, but this is happening during the mi…
