📣 ANN [ANN] 24U Software announces Tracksy
HOnza posted a topic in Announcements of FileMaker Product, Services or Resources
24U Software announces Tracksy Prague, CZ -- December 7, 2021 -- 24U Software announces an availability of Tracksy, a complete integrated software and hardware solution for tracking goods, assets, orders and people within controlled space, leveraging RAIN UHF RFID and Claris FileMaker as a software platform. The solution is ready to integrate with existing systems based on Claris FileMaker, SQL or REST API. How Tracksy Works Tracksy is based on Claris FileMaker as a software platform for the main app and the 24U’s proprietary components that seamlessly integrate it with various hardware devices, including an RFID label printer and stationary and mobile RFID readers from popular vendors, such as Zebra Technologies, Alien Technology, Impinj or CAEN RFID. Tracksy starts tracking an asset, product, order, or person as soon as an RFID tag or label is assigned to it in the application. RFID tags can be attached to anything, whether it’s people, expensive equipment, material, parts, or new products. The core of Tracksy’s tracking is based on industrial stationary RFID readers installed together with carefully placed antennas in the customer’s facilities. If you want to identify your stuff visually as well, Tracksy will let you easily print the visual info on an RFID label. Thanks to the underlying Claris FileMaker platform, Tracksy can be easily integrated not only with any system based on FileMaker, but also any other system allowing access over SQL, REST API or any other documented application integration. Availability and Pricing Tracksy is provided as an end-to-end solution with a complete service, starting with initial analysis, through hardware supply, implementation, and customization, to a long-term service level agreement including technical support, preventive maintenance, compatibility updates, feature upgrades, and even further customizations. We will not only make it work, but also keep it working for as long as the customer needs it. The smallest Tracksy deployment can fit under US$10,000 for the implementation and US$5,000 for annual support and maintenance, including hardware supply, but it’s ready for large scale deployments with 100 or more zones and checkpoints and thousands of concurrently tracked items as well. We have made our mobile hardware integration plug-in able to print labels on the Zebra ZQ630 RFID and compatible label printers, including reading and writing UHF RFID tags embedded in the labels. Gonector print labels directly via Bluetooth using the Zebra Programming Language, known as ZPL, so you don’t have to rely on wi-fi or AirPrint. Printing labels with Gonector is fast, reliable, and your scripts can have 100% control on what’s printed and where. Read more and see how easily you can implement it in the video... https://24usw.com/gon21wf You can print text in various sizes, place it precisely where you want it, and even rotate it if necessary. You can also print different barcodes and 2D codes, without having to render them in FileMaker. When printing a label with an embedded RFID tag, you can automatically pair the RFID with the data by either reading back the tag's unique ID, pre-filled by the vendor in the EPC memory bank, or overwrite it with your own identification data. Let’s implement label printing with Gonector into your own custom FileMaker app in 4 easy steps.

[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] 24U releases Bridge for Phidgets 4.0 for Claris FileMaker The popular hardware integration plug-in adds support for all current smart VINT Phidget sensors and server-side automation using FileMaker Server Prague, CZ -- November 9, 2021 -- 24U Software announces an immediate availability of Bridge for Phidgets 4.0, a major upgrade of the plug-in that enables custom apps made with Claris FileMaker to sense and control the physical world via smart devices made by Phidgets, Inc. What's New in Version 4.0 - Support for all current VINT sensors (at least 13 sensors newly supported) - Support for using the plug-in in server-side scripts and web calls on FileMaker Server About Bridge for Phidgets For over 13 years, Bridge for Phidgets has been enabling FileMaker developers to sense and control the physical world through smart Phidgets devices directly from FileMaker Pro. Existing customers use Bridge for Phidgets in a wide range of different industries, including compliance testing of electrical equipment, identifying and tracking patient charts in hospital, automatically sorting sheep, opening door to gym for customers identified by RFID loyalty card, or robotics prototyping. Bridge for Phidgets allows FileMaker users and developers to - Read and write RFID tags to track goods, assets and people - Capture sensor data to collect environmental data such as temperature or force - Control servo and stepper motors to automate moving parts of robots and machines - Read digital and analog inputs to control software solutions by physical control devices - Set digital and analog outputs to switch lights and other electrical equipment - Display text on LCD displays to create custom user interfaces such as cashbox - Access Phidgets directly from custom FileMaker app running on iOS or iPadOS About using Bridge for Phidgets with FileMaker Server Previous version of Bridge for Phidgets required a client FileMaker application to be open for any interaction with the Phidgets devices. This was a limiting factor for unattended automations, such as access control systems or uninterrupted sensor monitoring. The new version of Bridge for Phidgets allows for deferring all the Phidgets interactions to the FileMaker Server and implementing much more robust automations. It is even designed to recover from crashes and restarts, so that whatever automated workflow configured with it will keep working until it is intentionally disabled. System Requirements and Compatibility Bridge for Phidgets 4.0 requires FileMaker Pro 16 or newer running on macOS High Sierra 10.13 or Windows 8.1 or newer operating system. At least FileMaker Pro 19 and macOS Big Sur 11.3 or Windows 10 is recommended to get the most out of the plug-in. Bridge for Phidgets 4.0 runs natively on the Apple M1 processors. Custom apps running in FileMaker Go can leverage the new server-side support by performing scripts on server. For a custom FileMaker app to be able to use Bridge for Phidgets directly, the app has to be built as a native app using the FileMaker iOS App SDK 18.0.1 or newer. 24U's Xgode online service can be used to buld native iOS apps without having to learn to use the iOS App SDK. iOS apps built with Bridge for Phidgets 4.0 can be installed on iOS 13.0 or newer. Availability and Pricing Bridge for Phidgets 4.0 is immediately available for download free of charge as a fully functional 14-day trial version, which can be activated after purchasing a license code. Test Your FileMaker Performance with BenchTest 2.0
HOnza posted a blog entry in HOnza's Bits @ FMForums
Meet BenchTest 2, our free benchmarking tool for Claris FileMaker. You can use it to measure and compare performance of different techniques to do the same thing, different versions of FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Server, or different client, server and network configurations. We created BenchTest for FileMaker DevCon 2013 to show how different ways to do the same thing compare to each other in terms of performance. We compared speed of aggregate functions with summaries, different ways to count related records, finds in indexed fields vs unindexed, and several more techniques developers use every day without even thinking if there might be a better way. Then we used the tool internally to run over 200,000 tests within our FileMaker Performance Lab to find out how each new version of FileMaker compared to its predecessors, how fast FileMaker runs on Windows compared to Mac, or when it's good to use Perform Script on Server and when not. It has become our tool to find out what's the right way to do something when we have multiple choices. Now it can be your tool as well. https://24usw.com/bnt2wf -

Gonector allows custom FileMaker apps for iPhone or iPad to seamlessly integrate directly with various mobile devices such as digital scales, RFID readers and mobile printers. Today we are happy to announce version 2.0 which doubles the number of supported devices. The plug-in has been out for almost three years now and enabled some great apps to replace manual work with modern technologies, such as RFID and digital scales, without compromising the ease of use and development efficiency provided by the Claris FileMaker platform. We built Gonector with the idea that integrating external accessories to a custom FileMaker app should be as easy as building the app itself. So we carefully selected the devices to support in the first version to make sure they work reliably and the integration feels natural. But we did not stop there and customers were coming to us asking for other devices to be integrated, and that’s how we gradually expanded the abilities of Gonector, adding support for more devices based on our customers' requests. Don't hesitate to read our detailed article and watch our video presenting the new features and newly supported devices.

📣 ANN 24U releases Gonector 2.0 for Claris FileMaker
HOnza posted a topic in Announcements of FileMaker Product, Services or Resources
[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] 24U releases Gonector 2.0 for Claris FileMaker This new version of the mobile hardware integration plug-in doubles the number of supported devices with new barcode and RFID scanners and more Prague, CZ -- May 4, 2020 -- 24U Software announces immediate availability of Gonector 2.0, the plug-in that enables custom FileMaker apps running on iPhone or iPad to seamlessly integrate with professional mobile hardware devices. such as digital scales, RFID readers and mobile printers. The new version adds support for industrial barcode scanners from Zebra, handheld RAIN UHF RFID readers with circular polarization CANE skID and Alien ALR-S350, and the DPP line of mobile receipt/label printers from Infinite Peripherals. It also extends the existing functionality by allowing for writing to NFC tags on iPhone with no additional hardware and triggering FileMaker scripts by pressing the programmable hardware button available on some sled readers from Infinite Peripherals, such as Infinea X. Version 2.0 brings: Support for Infinite Peripherals DPP receipt/label printers Support for CAEN skID, a new high-performance RAIN/UHF RFID reader Support for Alien ALR-S350 hand-held RAIN/UHF RFID reader Support for Zebra CS4070 and DS3678 barcode scanners Additional Zebra scanners may be compatible but have not been tested Extended CAEN RFID readers support by enabling user memory reading and writing Extended iPhone built-in NFC reader support to enable NFC tag writing Extended Infinea X support to allow for triggering scripts with programmable buttons Added possibility to control visual, audible and haptic feedback of capable readers Improved cadence of script triggers for scales, RFID readers Compatibility with FileMaker iOS App SDK 19 About Gonector Gonector is a FileMaker plug-in that allows a native application for iPhone or iPad, built using the FileMaker iOS App SDK, to communicate directly with mobile hardware devices. Being able to interact with professional mobile devices enables developers to use the FileMaker platform to create POS, inventory and other heavy-duty mobile business apps with friendly, fast, and reliable user interface. The first version of Gonector was released in July 2018. It has enabled custom apps, such as JOGS, to replace manual work with modern technologies, such as RFID and digital scales, without compromising the ease of use and development efficiency provided by the Claris FileMaker platform. Duncan McDavid, CEO of Jacoma Estates said about JOGS and its use of Gonector: "The product we received from 24U has been helpful for us because it's given us a competitive edge over some of our suppliers. We've got a much quicker system in terms of procurement products and a much more transparent system... It's cut out a lot of inefficiencies both through removal of paper paperwork and paper-based processing but we're also able to do a lot more transactions now so our return on investment into the system has been very good." The JOGS application combines digital scales, RFID and mobile receipt printers to bring modern technologies to one of the poorest countries in Africa. But Gonector can be used even for more than just the devices it explicitly supports. With its function, designed for reading weight from digital scales, Alan Meinhart from Three Z Printing also successfully used Gonector to read data from a specialized sensor in order to accurately measure paper consumption during print jobs. Since plug-ins cannot be added to FileMaker Go, adding these features to a mobile FileMaker app requires the use of the FileMaker iOS App SDK. This can be significantly simplified to just a few clicks by using the 24U's Xgode service. With this service, adding the Gonector to the app is a matter of clicking a checkbox and selecting the devices to enable. Requirements For development, Gonector 2.0 requires any Mac running macOS 10.12 or later and FileMaker Pro 16 or later, or an x86 PC running Windows 7 or later and FileMaker Pro 16 or later. macOS 10.14.6 or later and Xcode with Swift version 5 is necessary for building the iOS and iPadOS apps containing Gonector 2.0. Alternatively, the 24U's Xgode online service can be used. Apps built with Gonector 2.0 can be installed on iOS 13.1 or newer. Availability and Pricing Gonector 2.0 is immediately available for download free of charge as a fully functional 14-days trial version. Development dummy plug-in does not require activation, iOS version embedded into an app can be activated with a license that is tight to specific bundle ID of the app. Licenses for Gonector start at US$499 per year for app deployed to up to 20 users. License for Payment Terminals Edition of Gonector is available for US$7999 and includes implementation support for one type of payment terminal. Development Scheduling Optimized with Web Viewer
HOnza posted a blog entry in HOnza's Bits @ FMForums
We use our own app called Collector to manage our software development projects. A few years ago my colleague Milan started feeling the need to schedule our development capacity more precisely. So we created a detailed plan layout. In the following video you can see what the layout looked like and how we later optimized it using Web Viewer and JavaScript. In the first version of the layout, we used a list view with 31 filtered portals in the body part and another 31 portals in the footer to show summaries. That required FileMaker Pro to render 11 625 fields just for the calendar part of the layout. It was quite fast and easy to develop but changing a single value caused it to take a few seconds to refresh the whole layout and we had to wait for the refresh to complete before we could change another value. With a little bit of JavaScript and AJAX, our web developers were able to make the user interface so fast that a responding to any change takes less time than an eye blink. Adding Webhooks to FileMaker is Easy with fmRESTor 19
HOnza posted a blog entry in HOnza's Bits @ FMForums
We have recently released fmRESTor 19 along with a brief 8-minute step-by-step video on how you can use fmRESTor to add a webhook to your own FileMaker database. For the case you have not heard the term yet, webhook is usually defined as a “user-defined HTTP callback”. In plain English, it’s a web URL you can access and pass data to in order to perform some action in the target application. In the simplest form it’s just a link you can click and that alone performs the action. As an example, I took the built-in FileMaker starter solution for task management, and slightly modified it to send an e-mail when I assign someone to a task. Now whenever I assign someone to a task, that person receives a nicely formatted e-mail message with the task details, due date, and a link to click to change the task status to “Completed”. Click here to read more details, watch the video and download the sample files -
On January 19, 2021 we met online for the second time to discuss my FileMaker performance lab testing results. For the case you either missed the meeting, or attended and want to recall some details, a recording of the meeting is now available... In the meeting I talked about the impact of record size on performance being often higher than impact of any other factor. As a surprise I also showed my first results of testing actual simultaneous clients connecting to FileMaker Server 19.2 instead of simulating clients by server-side scripts. At the time of the meeting, however, I was already running the same set of tests with FileMaker Server 18v4 and promised to share the comparison as soon as I have it... Here's the most interesting chart coming out of the comparison: It seems that at least the indexed searches, which were supposed to take advantage of the new shared lock mechanism, are really working much better with multiple clients connecting to FileMaker Server 19.2. Do you want to learn more? Check the recap of the meeting and get access to the recording.

Generate Scalable PDF Barcodes Purely with Calculations
HOnza posted a blog entry in HOnza's Bits @ FMForums
Have you ever dreamed of being able to generate high quality scalable barcodes in FileMaker solely using calculations, with no plug-ins, fast enough, in a way compatible with server-side scripts, FileMaker Go and FileMaker WebDirect, and completely free of charge? Your dream has just come true... There are various solutions for barcodes already available, from special barcode fonts, through Brian Dunning’s custom functions using rotated underscore as a symbol primitive, various web services such as those mentioned in Anders Monsen’s article, to the award-winning Barcode Creator, and now even JavaScript based Barcode Generator add-on built into FileMaker Pro 19. But each of the existing solutions actually had some limitation I did not feel comfortable about, whether it was cost, dependency on internet connection, generation performance, poor quality of the result, or inability to generate barcodes in server-side scripts. Just as an example, how quickly can you find a way to generate QR code, which looks good at any scale, with no tiny white lines between individual pixels? Like this one: QRcode.pdf As a tech-nerd who loves to achieve the impossible, I really could not resist the opportunity to find out whether I could build a https://24usw.com/pdfbarwfnew solution, not having a single one of these limitations. So I created this example, generating barcodes solely with custom functions: It works off-line, in server-side scripts, with WebDirect, and does not need to use Web Viewer, plug-in or external service. If you want to try it out, watch my video on how to use it, and read the whole story of how I created it, click here to check my original article. -
The first Claris Engage, a successor of FileMaker DevCons, was originally planned to take place in Nashville, Tennessee. The coronavirus pandemic has changed plans for most live events this year, and so Claris Engage turned to a virtual experience. We attended, and even participated as a virtual exhibitor, and it surpassed all our expectations. So let us share our highlights of the conference with you. Learning from the sessions is great, but the biggest value in every conference lies outside of the session rooms, in networking with the peers, being able to discuss problems and ideas, and even the content from the sessions, with other developers. I wondered what the virtual conference will be without this experience. Until Geist Interactive came up AutoEnter.live, the “Claris Engage Watch Party and Virtual Trade Show”, just about a week ahead of the conference. Finally, everyone attending a conference wants to take something valuable away back home. In the best case it is new knowledge and new ideas to apply on real projects. To get the most out of our participation in Claris Engage 2020, each of our developers has prepared a demo or example going deeper into one of the topics presented in the conference sessions. Then we organized an internal followup mini-conference to share the demos and discuss how we can immediately apply them to the benefit of our customers. Every topic was great but two really stood out - JavaScript and Add-Ons. But this is only a short excerpt from our whole recap of the conference. It you're interested, click here to read the whole recap.

As a Claris partner, we also resell FileMaker licenses. Buying the license from us has some extra benefits, one of them being a nicely formatted PDF document with all information about the license, including download links. In order to be able to generate this document from our FileMaker based CRM, I needed to find a way to include functional web links in it. So I wrote a custom function that does it, without needing any plug-ins or other external technologies. The custom function simply takes a PDF saved from FileMaker, and adds a link to it. As long as you know what page and where on that page you want the link to be, you can modify your PDF that easily. No plug-ins are needed, no web viewer, so it works in the whole platform, including WebDirect and server-side scripts. Click here to get the example and read the story behind it.

Everyone talks about IoT. We don't talk, we do. Just like our colleague Milan who wanted to get his greenhouse under control... As a little boy he grew tomatoes and some herbs in pots on balcony (because we didn’t have a garden at that time). Over time his hobby evolved into growing vegetables in a greenhouse. Since he also likes technology and automation, now many of the repeating processes are controlled by Claris FileMaker, Raspberry Pi, Hardwario, LoRa, Node-RED, etc. As Milan grew up and got his own garden, he could build a greenhouse there. Thanks to the greenhouse, he can extend the growing season to begin in early spring and last until late fall. But growing vegetables in a greenhouse has its own specifics… Read more about how he's added modern technology to his greenhouse in Milan's recent artcile.
