publishing filemaker on web

Featured Replies

hello

just another minor question

I have used instant web publishing but results are no where near as good as i was expecting ...the small number on view and restricted manipulation etc.

If I publish the whole thing to my own web site will it perform exactly as on the MY machine?

And lastly do most hosters accept filemaker db? ok

To publish FM files via IWP you must have FMP or FMServer Advanced hosting the database(s).

If you're hosting these files yourself then your DSL connection UPLOAD speed is the critical performance issue - generally it's just not fast enough!

There are quite a few specialist FM hosting ISPs, all of them charge, and quite a bit more than just for ordiinary web hosting.

Web publishing under FMP cannot be simply achieved on any old web based ISP.

thanks,

I am using filemaker pro 7

although i get the data base on ok

it overall layout etc is not what i would want to use.

My concern is that should i get (albeit by paying more )an isp to host it would the results be that my db would be almost as I have it on my pc.

speed would not be an issue i think as only a very small amount data would be altered at a time, the ability to view it is important

Have a look at our services at:

http://www.pointinspace.com/>

Your database should function exactly the same here as on your local machine. And, yeap, we definitely host using FileMaker Server Advanced.

What you see is what you get.

Hosting your DB elsewhere will not change the look or feel of your file, only the speed at which it is deployed. Custom Web Publishing is the next step - but it might be a leap too far.

As a beginner you'd find this one quite tough.

hello

thx for reply

I am a beginner as far as filemaker is concerned but have desighned a number of conventional web sites one of wich was interactive.

The isp i use however will not accept filemaker

Speed is not really an issue here ,very little data change would be made at anyone time and im on a very fast (10meg) internet connection anyway.

My main concern was that the end result on the new web would be like that presented by instant web publishing which woul be unacceptable to me

Hello John,

ths for the reply.

I have looked at your site and prices etc are reasonable.

I am obviously still at the design stage so orders will not be placed as yet.

One point you specifically mentioned a server apploication, im am using filemaker pro 7 is this suitable ?

looking at info on your site I assume it to be ok

regards

jacky

Yes, we host FileMaker 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 databases.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, etc. Thanks!
