October 15, 200619 yr Hi, I have one problem, I use Web Publishing with one of my data bases, and when I create a layout as a LIST, in web browser it shows only 5 records at time ( per page), why is that? I would like it to show the whole page. In table layout it shows all records, but that is not what I want.(table layout I mean)
October 15, 200619 yr This is a FAQ, use a cartesian product selfjoin portal, but for the sake of userfriendlyness chop it up in smaller chunks, to avoid hogging connectionspeed. This is usually done by cutting the gathered ID's via ValuelistItems( making a primary key into renderingjobs of less than 50 records per view, in say a tabbed view or fiddling with a global field controling the primary key. --sd
October 15, 200619 yr Author Thanks Soren, but well... after your answer... I am just a beginner...I have to just scratch my hair...any simplier answers...? Ps...If I use table layout( to get the full page of records shown in IWP), the problem is that when hiding a Status area from other users(via IWP), how can I get them get back from table view, because in table view I have not figured out how to put for instance a button in it to get back to other views/layouts?
October 15, 200619 yr Alright you should think of why this limitation have been introduced, it is there to make the webpage render as quick as posible ...so if more lines should be shown, must a selfjoin relation be introduced. The cartesian type makes you show all records via a portal. But even if a scroll bar is put on the portal, is it a tough task to render say 40000 records this way. We, in the company I work for only use form views, where we then usher in only chunks of max 50 records into portals by using multilinekeys for the portals relation, because we do not have any desires in annoying users away from the interfaces. Do you wish me, to make you a template handling this chopping up in smaller chunks technique? --sd
October 16, 200619 yr Author Thanks for your answer Soren, a template example would be great! The amount of records I am talking about per page is approximately from 20 to 40 only, no more. What about that table form question I had, anybody knows ? Regards
October 18, 200619 yr Author Thanks again Soren, now I figured out what you meant. I hope I can make it to solve my problem. Regards
October 18, 200619 yr Feel free to send a template 'round my mail inbox an case you expirience hiccups in the implementation! --sd
October 18, 200619 yr Another option is to run the available updaters for FM7 Web Publishing Engine. The last versions of v7 and all versions of 8 and 8.5 show 25 records per page in list view and 50 in table view. If this is enough for you, then you don't have to use a portal..
January 11, 200719 yr thanks so much for the template soren! much appreciated as i have this same problem too.
