RET Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I am using FM pro 5.5. for multiable databases. Some of which my company needs to access for different cities. I setup web companion as well as the webport, the plug in that comes with FM unlimited. This was originally setup using FM 5.0 and at time, it was very slow but it worked. Now you can still access the databases form the web but none of the changes are saving that are made from the Web. Has anyone got an idea why this may be happening? Also is their a better/faster way I can host files so my users in San Francisco and Minneapolis and access them? Some one said that I could have my FM pro files hosted outside, and if so does anyone know where? Any help would be great, RET
Anatoli Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Are you using Instant Web Publishing? With Custom CDML publishing it will be fast as any HTML pages on web.
Arin Posted August 3, 2001 Posted August 3, 2001 What OS are you using? And what kind of Internet connection do you have?
RET Posted August 3, 2001 Author Posted August 3, 2001 The file is hosted with filemaker Server on mac OS 9.0 The web companion file is hosted to the web on a system mac os 9.1 The operating system has not changed only the software form 5.0 to 5.5. RET
John May - Point In Space Posted August 3, 2001 Posted August 3, 2001 We offer hosting for Filemaker 4.x and 5.0, CDML and Lasso. http://www.pointinspace.com/ However, no Filemaker hosting provider can currently host 5.5 files, as 5.5 Unlimited has yet to be released. Technically, it could be done with a regular 5.5 (though you'd be breaking the license agreement), but even then there's problems with the Web Companion in 5.5 communicating with Lasso. There may be additional problems in the 5.5 Web Companion in general, or you may be hitting the 10 IPs in 12 hours limit of it. That said, you can still host your 5.5 files on a 5.0 hosting provider that's running Filemaker 5.0 Unlimited - you just won't be able to use the features new in 5.5 with it. And you can still host that same database when 5.5 Unlimited comes out without any changes, as the 5.0/5.5 file formats are cross-compatible. - John

Keith M. Davie Posted September 10, 2001 Posted September 10, 2001 Robert asks, "Can you tell me where exactly we can host these files? Name of a place or website? contact?" Jan May had already answered the question, "We offer hosting for Filemaker 4.x and 5.0, CDML and Lasso. http://www.pointinspace.com/ "
