Silvia Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 I'm trying to figure things out with custom webpublishing and CDML. Why is it that whenever I make changes to the page I've set in the Web Companion, I have to rename it and set the new page in the Web Companion to see the changes at http://localhost?!?! This is REALLY annoying!! Can anyone tell me why, and how to prevent this?! Thanks!!
Garry Claridge Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 Maybe WebCompanion is storing the page in Memory. You may need to name it explicitly; e.g. http://localhost:n/default.html Worth a try! All the best. Garry
scratchmalogicalwax Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 ........also make sure you clear the browser cache after each change
Hammerton Posted March 21, 2002 Posted March 21, 2002 And if all that's not annoying enough, it may be necessary to set your server to not cache pages while you are making changes to your site. This is an issue if you use FM with a server via the web server connector.
Anatoli Posted March 22, 2002 Posted March 22, 2002 RE: Can anyone tell me why, and how to prevent this?! My default.htm is always empty and I do not change it. So I do not have problem. On page there is only 1 link with continue to the real "home" page. In real web traffic, I am calling directly the "home" page. Default is there only for localhost testing.
Bob White Posted March 28, 2002 Posted March 28, 2002 You didn't say which platform you use. I had a very similar problem with localhost with FMP 5.5 on both my iMac and my iBook. The problem started when I updated to OS 10.1.2 and the problem disappeared several weeks later when I updated to 10.1.3. I do not know what caused the problem -- just that it went away. (I am presuming you are using a Mac since I have not experienced any localhost problems on my Windows NT box.)
