I love the FM10 IWP interface, since I last used version 4 and CDML.

I am stumped and haven't found an answer- please help.

Client will use this solution on a computer using FM10 and a few people will access it via Safari for adding and editing records.

There are 6 tables of related data. Approx 5 portals which I would love to have all on one page, but is really slow simply going into the edit page. FileMaker solution works great.

I have full access set up.

Problem is not all fields are editable on one layout.I created a spreadsheet to track what is editable on which layout. All are editable on at least one layout...

My question is what determines whether a field or portal field is editable on a layout?

Associated table? Relationship? ID Fields on layout? Documentation says no.. What am I missing?

Also:

There is a book 'Web Publishing with PHP and FileMaker 9', but that is for use with Filemaker server.

I need more detailed documentation for IWP than Knowledge-base or white pages. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you read the instant web publishing guide which is in the Electronic Documentation folder?

Field and Layout permissions are controlled in

File > Manage > Accounts & Privileges > Privilege Sets

Your portals may give some performance issues as all the related records of the portal are sent to the web user. Sorting on the portal will also slow things down. When you click into a field then FM resends the page again!

Watch out with graphics - these can incur a massive performance penalty, so trim them down to just the required size @ 72 dpi and in jpeg or gif format.

The status panel on the left also slows things down, but if you disable it then you must replace essential buttons with your own, particularly a "submit" equivalent.

FWIW I have written a complete business solution with IWP and it worked remarkably well - but there's a lot of hoops to jump through to keep the FMP and IWP experience the same.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Yes I did read that section on 'access and privileges' and Extended privileges are set to full access.

The fields have the lines on the bottom right corner - like they are editable, but won't allow entering...

Field set up and behavior are correctly set.

I can copy fields from one layout that works, and replace the ones that don't. That corrects the problem. Field set up and behavior have the same settings. Interesting.

The People phone fax portal doesn't work and the email portal does...

The Company phone fax portal does work and the email portal does also- on one layout...

The activity portal doesn't work, but I have a button that can auto enter dates and "left message" in the content field- it works in browse, but can't enter data in the content field in edit.

Very strange. So far I don't see a pattern.

All the key ID fields are numbers

Thanks. If I don't get this figured out can I hire you to take a look?

To answer my own question, I selected and locked the layout I wanted to use for this project, added new fields on top of the original layout that was part of the converted file. Then I deleted that locked layout that had glitches , added new portals one by one and tested in IWP.

My converted solution from version 5 to 10 is done and works great. I am impressed with the new FM versions- lots of helpful improvements in 10 years. Thanks.

Obviously you've solved your problem already, but I was wondering if it might have been related to one I had. Did you happen to have any rectangles drawn on the layouts where you were having trouble? I noticed in IWP that when I have a field on top of a rectangle, in some instances I will be unable to edit the field. But the problem doesn't occur using the FMP client. It took me awhile, but I finally figured out that the rectangle object was actually on top of the field, so I couldn't click on it in IWP. Once I brought the field to the front, the problem went away.
