I have an already existing layout with fields populating it from a table. I went to Manage Database and created 12 more all new fields in the same table. Now I want to add those 12 new fields to the same already existing layout. It seems that all I can do is to individually drag the new fields on to the layout using the Field Tool.

Isn't there a way to select multiple fields (from a dialog?) and add them en masse'? I know how to do this with an all new layout.

Thank you all...

Create a new layout  the database. During the process of creating the new layout there will be an option to select the fields to put on the layout. Do this (or select all). When the layout is created, select the fields and copy them, paste to your real layout, delete the new temporary layout.

There is a setting somewhere (sorry, I'm on an iPad) that automatically adds newly created fields to a layout.

Yes that that preference is the first that I turn OFF whenever I sit down at a new install of FMP.

The new fields usually get added to the bottom of the layout and can result in the body part being enlarged to make them fit. This then screws up with the interface design.

You can turn this on and off for the Layout in FileMaker >> Preferences >> Layout (select or deselect) Add newly defined fields to current layout.

You can add them after the fact by dragging the Field Tool to the layout, or Dragging an existing field (our Duplicate it) and then selecting the new field to be on the layout. Using a existing Field gives you the attributes of the field you duplicated. Command + D combo also does this.
