Newbies Chazperx Posted May 4, 2002 Newbies Posted May 4, 2002 I am following a tutorial in "Filemaker Pro 5 Bible" by Steven Schwartz and on page 580, it talks about publishing a database to the web. The instructions are to open your database, select EDIT>PREFERENCES>APPLICATION and then select TCP/IP as your network protocol. The problem I am having is that there are no options on the drop down menu where is says network protocol. I was connected to the web at the time, and I don't know if this makes a difference. I was thinking it had something to do with the installation, and I was going to go back and check that too. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thans in advanced! Chaz
Keith M. Davie Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 At "...select EDIT>PREFERENCES>APPLICATION and then select ..." try plugins and designate Web Companion. Following this you need to go to File/Sharing and check web companion.
IdealData Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 Sounds like you don't have TCP/IP installed on your machine. FM will only offer the network protocols available within the op sys.
Will Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 In your post you said you were "connected to the web" so you must have the TCP/IP protocol enabled on the computer. If the suggestions above don't work rerun FileMaker setup, choose custom install and make sure the networking option is selected.
Bob White Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 Sounds to me like "connected to the Web" might mean via an old fashioned telephone line and modem. He may not even have a network card. Otherwise, why would TCP/IP not be installed?
Anatoli Posted June 6, 2002 Posted June 6, 2002 For web serving the FM itself doesn't need TCP/IP protocol enabled Only WebCompanion.
