Currently each user has a little app on their desktop that has a FM file that does 1 thing, connect to the main FM app on the FM Server. It has 2 lines in the script 1) minimize the window 2) run a remote script on the main layout page of the application Now what happens is a person clicks on the startup app on their desktop. A FM window opens and then an ALERT popsup saying that CHART.FM can not be found. Next click on OK and then the box opens that has the HOST selection on it. What I want to know is how do I make it so that the ALERT popup doesn't occur. Just click on the desktop icon and it goes to the CHART.FM and then the INITIALIZE script …

I'm trying to run a Microsoft Word (win2k) macro contained in a script that loops about 100 times. Word is opened using the send message script step once before the loop. I guess it's just a syntax problem but I've tried every possibility and it's driving me nuts! I have set up a script that enters preview mode and brings up the prints and brings the user back to the original layout. This is exactly what i want to do however everytime the print script is called it prints EVERY record instead of the current record which is what I need it to do. I could potentially have the dialog come up and have the users choose Print page 1 to 1, but my coworkers aren't that computer literate and this could be a fatal mistake seeing as we will have hundreds of records in this database. I am making a database for work. It includes all employees. I need a script to randomly pick a person. Easy no problem, I am using "Int(Random*Status(CurrentFoundRecordCount))+1" then goto that record. My boss just threw into the loop that he wants it weights. All employees will have a rating 0-3. If an employee is 3 that person should be picked more frequently than someone with a 0 rating. How in the heck can I pull this off? I am stumped. Sample code would be great! Thanks for the space.

I have two files that are related: confirmation letter and request form. The information from the request form populates the letter. This relationship is working when you open the letter file and manually enter a request ID(field). I would like to automate the process. I want the request form to automatically launch the letter with all the information from the related record when the user clicks on the letter button. Thanks, Shari

The DB I am designing has omited records. I do not want my users to see the omited records. I have figured out how to keep my users from seeing omited records. Now here is what I am running into. I have my users sort by date then print the found set. When they make a new record it shows the found set from the previous find. I want to show all records that are not omited with a new record. How can I make this happen?

Hi, In my database I have a field that holds a filename for another FM database. This name is different between records. I'd like to run a script that takes that filename and places it into an Open[] statement to automatically open that file. My problem is that Open[] seems not take an entry other than by pointing to a filelist. Any ideas please.

Is there a way to have a script run as soon as an app starts up? For instance. I currently have a FM app that checks for a file in a folder. If there is a file there it imports the data and deletes the file. This FM app has to be manually started. What I want to do is intergrate it into the primary app. So now if the main applicatioin (CHART.FM) is shut down (nightly for backup) when it is restarted it will automatically start checking for files in the folder.

fileMaker 5.5: I would like to pause a script so the user can make a selection by clicking a button on the screen. I would like this button to take some action but to then continue the paused script. How can I do this? It seems that the only way to continue a paused script is to click the continue icon in the status area.

Help!!! I need to automate the count of students attending a certian training class and return the data to the request form to verify class availability. My request form is in a separate file that I can script to open my class roster file. The class roster file contains all the records for all classes. There are two files of importance here: "Significant Others" and "Household Members". Both of the files store the same sort of information, but the "Household Members" file needs to be as close to un-duplicated as humanly possible. In other words, in the "Significant Others" table, the same person can have multiple entries (records), but they cannot in the "Household Members" table. Hi Everyone! OK... In CDML you can capture a "true" or "false" if someone can create a new record... Is there a way to do the same thing using FMP Scripts? Howdy, folks! I normally prowl the CDML/web forums but I'm new to scripts and can't figure out how to exit the LOOP I made for eliminating duplicate records but keeping the latest record created. I'm basing my script on a Jason Wood script ( JASON WOOD POST ). Probably been asked before, but can a custom script you wrote in ScriptMaker be run automatically if a calculation field or any other type of field becomes a certain value? I would find this very useful for error control. For instance, if someone enters 3 in a field they aren't supposed to enter 3 in I would like it to automatically run a script that pops up a warning box that says "don't enter 3 in this field." Is there any way to get it to do this without having to have the user manually run the error control script after each entry?

I have a product database that has about 15 different manufacturers. I need to have each sorted in a different way depending on the manufacturer. So I have created an If script to sort each different (ex: If manufacturer="Jetson's sprockets" and then sort)I get each product line sorted the way that it should, create the script, then test it. Everything is good, BUT when I go back later and try to do this the script either won't work at all, or it doesn't sort the items in the correct sorting order. I have done this for each of the 15 or so manufacturers, but it only messes up on some of them. Is there something that I am doing wrong?

I would like to create a script that would help in creating a data base of a work schedule. I have 4 shifts and I would like to be able to insert shift "A" into the field and have the names of shift "A" appear. I have created a report that breaks down sales by account number, and contains subsummary parts broken out by different customers who use the same account. I'm pretty sure that the only way to get the subsummary values into fields that can be used in calculations and scripts is to export the data to another file and reimport the data into a file that contains the scripts and calculations that you want to use. Within that DB I want to be able to continuously track vacation time used and earned. But I would like to have the vacation automatically increased on the employee's anniversary date (but only once each year regardless of how many times the script is run). The increased vacation varies according to seniority. Having performed a find in one file, (by finding related records) and moved via portals etc to the file in which the data resides, I have the range of records and information I require (say 5 records). In order to see one particular record of these five as it will be printed, I have to do a "find all / omit record / find omitted" and move to preview. Hi Everyone. I have a small relational sub-solution in which I can arrive in one file from either of two others. The initial script from either of the two first files uses a sub scipt in the destination file. If the "If" fails in the destination file and I wish to return to the original layout in either of the first files, is it possible to do so even if I do not know which file I have come from? Layout (original Layout) does not appear to work. I appreciate that this is a basic question to many - but I'm stuck! Would be grateful for any help.

I have a script that grabs the name of a title, then goes to another database and searches for similar items with the same title. I don't think scriptmaker is the place for this, but I did not see a better section. I have created a subsummary report, and would like the users to be able to VIEW the entire report on screen. I have no problem if the report is 1 page long, they get the full view in preview mode. However, if the report is multiple pages, is there a way that they can view the complete report without printing?

For an upcoming promotion, I need to be able to select a customer at random. Each customer has a unique number in my FM data base. I'm trying to develop a script to accomplish that within FM. I created the phrase field (i call it "Common Phrases") that holds a list of words (blah1, blah2, etc...) by way of a value-list. so, after creating this field, i'm able to click on it (while in Browse Mode) and choose a phrase (blah1, blah2, etc). Dear All, I am trying to execute a script that is used to remove redudant data. I perform a search for duplicates and then execute the script to remove the appropriate duplicate. In Script Maker, How do I perform a find by literal value? When performing the find manuallly, their is the option of literal value where the text is enclosed in quotes. I need to perform the same thing in a script. I have two databases, database_1 contains a field with an assigned value list of check boxes from a field from another database, database_2. The frustration that I am experiencing is that when I perform a find by clicking on one of check boxes in the field, I am getting the wrong results. I have one database that is set up for user access and has portals, etc. to all my other files. Let's call this file Portal. I originally had all related files set up for no layout access through password grouping. Upon realizing that in order to script reports to run from my user database Portal, I needed to allow users access to layouts in each of the files even if they don't see that they are accessing the layout. I'm trying to create a script to search a field in a related file, copy the latest entry into that field and bring it back to the master file. Seems simple enough with the 'go to last record' command. However, some of the records in the related file have no data entered into the field of interest. Since I have now taken a intro programming course I want to start using some of what I learned with Filemaker. I want to perform a script that will determine if the production status is unknown then omit that record or records. Here is what I have written. When user come in, they will see the login page, enter userid and password then press "login" button, however, we want everything to be able to be done by keystroked as well as with the mouse. i.e. after putting an userid, using the return key should go to password filed, after putting the password, using the return key should log in automatically. I need to write a script that will duplicate a record and all of its related records. The first file has an auto entered serial number as its unique identifier. The second file has the first files serial number as its identifier. It is a one to many relationship. I have tried several different ways but have not been able to do it. I want to calculate the ninimum and maximum value on a date field (earliest and latest date) of a set of records. I created two global fields and have a script that set this fields one with the max(field) and the other with the min(field) function. The problem is that when the script is run, it sets both fields with the minium value (earliest date). Does anybody knows how to make it work? thanks.

I'm trying to write a script that exports a found set of data to a file named "export.csv", and then have the script tell another application to open that new file. I'm on a Windows machine. I know how to do the export and write the file, but I can't figure out how to tell the other application to open the file. I've tried SendMessage and SendDDEExecute. With SendMessage, I've successfully opened the file with MS Excel (not what I want) and I've been able to launch the application I'm interested in. But I can't get that app to open the export.csv file. TIA, Artie

Is it possible to let a user go in and alter layout set. Specially is there a need for custom set, to nudge some fields for printouts. With two different printers I get two different hights on some fields. On both Windows and Mac, is the same problem.

Hi, I have a date field (type:date name:currentdate) with a date in it (what a suprise:) Now I only want to change the month with a script. So I have been busy writing some scripts that searches in the datefield to the current monthnumber and replace it with an increment value like 1. So when the month is 8, it replaces it with 9. But it seems that there is something terribly wrong with this set field calc...maybe someone wants to take a look on it? I can export all the fields no problem. I assume one needs to perform a find to narrow down the results they wish to export? I have a few lists(?) that I would like to loop through, and one I would like to just export the unique keys. I have a field where the user types some information, then I want some other text appended to the begining and end of what they type, but it must be bold. The only way I know how to edit text is to use a button, where the user types their info, then clicks the button to append the other text to what they typed. But how do I get the script to append bold text? Unless it's appending text from a field that is already bolded (which isn't an option)

I am working on a set of scripts to import some data from excel. I am trying to create a serial number in a blank field. Example. I have a voucher #R8387. I want the next record to show R8388 etc.. I have a file that is running a startup script that checks to see if I'm 'logged' in. Apparently I have the syntax wrong on the if statement because my file will close itself (what happens when the user is not logged in properly) before I get a chance to do anything with it. I don't remember what test I would have used, because I've tried to edit the values manually, but it doesn't seem to work. I've also shut down the server and worked on the files from there, but that doesn't seem to work either. Any suggestions?

I'm using the send email script to send email to people. I have the database in multi-user and I am able to send email through Outlook using my computer, but when the other 2 people try to use the buton to send the mail, it doesn't do anything. I have two value list as (pop up menues) one of the lists is a (1) class id number menu and the second list is the (2) class name menu. What I want to do is the following. How do you program the buttons in a message to do what the text says? I have a TimeClock file which keeps track of the amount of time I'm working on my current project. I have a script in this file which inserts my quitting time. In the file I'm actually working on (SES DB) I have a script which triggers the script in TimeClock and then quits FMP. This works fine. Here's where my question comes in...there are times when I would like to stop working on the current project but keep FMP open. I have a database under development (for some time) where I have recently experienced a problem with external scripts failing. I have a script in database A which calls a script in database B through a perform external script step. When I click a button which runs this script, the database complains that "perform script has been cancelled". When you look at the peform script definition, it seems to know the file but doesn't know which script to run. If you re-establish the correct script, everything is OK until your close the file. Problem is, you have to dial an 800 number, wait for an answer, and then enter the nine digit authorization number on the card. Dial Phone script step does not work if there is no dial tone. Anyone know how to do this? TIA

Hi All, I'm quite new to scriptmaker and I jope someone can help. Is it possible to make a script that checks the date on a database field and, for example, 3 day before that date fires out an email to the address in an email address field. The purpose of this would be to notify people of appointment etc 3 days in advance. Any help is getting this going would be really appreciated.

I'm fairly new to FM, I am attempting to build a record template which i can enter detailed information on Work we require to do for that particular job. All is ok so far, however i am at a point where i fill in the simple blanks (like address and numbers), but with every new record that will be entered, the work needed to be completed varies (ie some times we have three jobs, other times 15 jobs). Could anyone tell me the way that i could somehow create a button that can generate afew new fields to enter more work.... (i have created the first fields, where one is a POP-UP MENU with the type of work, and then a text field where we enter out details of the work)..

how you do a script where the find can find different things every time?! i don't know what the next search it will be on. i need to make find script that will search for different values in the same field. a lot of values. can't do a find script for every one! how is this done? can a script be done in which the find searches on a given global field value?

I think something got corrupted. When I attempt to open a file through the a script, I get this message: "This script cannot be found or has been deleted." All of my other "Open" scripts work. I've redone this a few times and still I get the same message. AND, BEST OF ALL, when I open the file all by iteself, I still get the same message even though no script is involved. I have to click through an extra step for the program to open. Does this make sense?

Hi, I need to rename external files (image files) based on the field value of FMP database. Say I have a DB with following structure. FilePath(Text) FileName(Text) NewFileName(Calculated=Style, Text), Style(Text) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- C:samples a.jpg fancy_pants.jpg fancy_pants I am guessing that I might have to use DDE command from script. Hello, I was wondering if someone can help me with this. Basically, i have a note field where people type in the notes. I want to prevent the option of delete the content of that data, i just want them to be able to put data but not delete it. Is it possible to make a script/link that will go to a different file (FileB) from the current file (FileA) and change to a different layout of FileB? In scriptmaker, i noticed that there is an option to change layout where you specify what layout you would like to switch to, but this option does not work when you want to change to a different layout of a different file. for example, from FileA, the script is instructed to open[FileB], then to change_to_layout[some layout #]; unfortunately, what happens is that FileA switches to that certain layout# and not FileB Suggestions? ~me

Hi, When I use the "open" (hidden) script step, it won't open the databases hidden:( So when the most window closes...the currently opened databases will be visible. Does anyone know a solution to this? Is it a bug? thnx allready:) greetz, Jeff

I have a second file that is related through the field "ID No." (this number is established each time a new record is created in file number one). I have a file which is a template. As such i want a user to click on that file ( or any other start point) and create a clone with a user defined name and location. Thats fine- use "save a copy as" in the scriptmaker. Problem is can the user then proceed automatically to the new file with minimal user input. I have a (Client) file in which I record basic information about therapy clients. In a related file (Reports), I have multiple fields that record outcomes and over time the status of each outcome for each client. The (Reports) file can store outcomes in Initial Reports and at later dates in multiple Progress Reports and finally in a Discharge Report. I'm trying to make a inventory/order database. I have one file that has all of my items in individual records (quantity, description... etc.). I want to be able to put ordered quantities in a field then "export" the order to another file to keep a record of ordered items. In this second file, I want the quantities in one repeating field, the descriptions in another repeating field and so on. This way if an items changes in the inventory (deleted, change description... etc.) the orders are still intact. This is why a portal will not work . What I can't get to work is a script function to put the contents of a field from the inventory file to a repeating field in the order …
