Custom Web Publishing

Playing detective here, so please bear with me. I designed a PC-based runtime solution which is being used by 40 customers. Each operates the database on his/her own machines in different locations. One of the problems is that if I have a software update, I have to email or postal mail the updated file to each of the customers, who then have to import records from the old file into the new one. What a pain! In a perfect world, I could: 1. Set up a single, master database on a server in my office. Ok, Ok. I know that Instant Web Publishing sucks, and I should be using CWP. BUT, I am using it because it was quick to set up. Here's what happened: I had a layout called DataEntry that was used for various views. I use a tabbed interface. One tab takes you to the layout for entering/editing records. I created a new layout that was similar so that I could have the tab order right when viewed through a browser. Then I deleted the old DataEntry and renamed the new layout DataEntry. When there is a URL listed in one of the fields it's listed as just plain text. I would like this URL to be a clickable link. What is OS X Remote Access Connection Services? I have been told that this can be used to host remote Filemaker databases in OS X and that is considerable faster than Filemaker Server. I have also been told that it is similar to Terminal Services in Windows 2000.

Hi, I want to be able to provide advertising in my solutions that changes. I want to pull images from my web server, into a container field in the customer's files, this way the ads would periodically update automatically..... does anyonehave any idea on how to do this? I'm trying to sort out apparently conflicting references I've seen here in the forum. Right now I'm using CDML with all files and images in FM's Web folder, and I've read that an interactive database needs to stay in that folder. But I've also read that the pages (with images) would run much faster using my Mac G4's Apache web server. CAN I, in fact, move the database, the HTML pages and the images over to the Sites folder and open up Port 80 on my router? If so, will it indeed run faster? Does anyone have an idea as to how to import records from a web interface? Scripts are fine. (yes, I know using scripts from the web is not the best, but it's fine for this application.) Background: This database is going to be used to send email. It basically does a mail merge kind of thing. I've designed it so that every email to be sent is its own record. Once I have created a basic FM file (in this case a contact address book) what exact steps should I take to get it up on the web? Please help, I am trying to create a dynamic web-page for work using CDML and am a newbie. I have a html "home page" that has a link to the Format file (html/cdml tags) which I am trying to build. I want the format file to allow for group access priveldges (something I was told instant web-publishing does not allow). Is there anyone out there who can give me some pointers as to where to begin? I have a javascript that formats a text field's contents into looking like a phone number. Like so: (NNN)NNN-NNNN so as you are typing the numbers the dash and parenthesis gets put in while you are typing. Our Company is creating an web-based library. We are scanning in different documents, mostly PDF, RTF, DOC. How can I map a location on the hard drive and then share it using web companion? My organization is cracking down on handing out public static IP address. I can get private static IP from them no problem. But another part of my organization already has a public static IP web server machine. If I install WSC on that machine, which outside users can access, and then install FMU on the private IP, will public users be allowed or denied access? The request will be coming from the webserver machine which is within the intranet so conceivably my FMU host machine would allow that computer access, yes, and then the web server would provide the generated HTML to the browser client? Hello all. We have an OS9 iMac serving several FileMaker Pro 4.0 databases over the internet. This computer is plugged directly into the DSL router. The problem is that the databases keep going down (eg: server not responding message from a browser trying to connect). The fix is simple, we quit FileMaker and then open the files back up. This always makes them accessible again. It seems that the more traffic these databases get the more frequent they go down. The databases are not crashing or closing, they just become inaccessible via the net. Any thoughts on how to solve this, or why this happening? Thanks for any help!!

I'm tryin to setup FMP unlimited to be served by a linux box using the apache proxypass directive (brief overview, it allows a sort of firewalling behind another web server). The reasoning is for security, FMPU security seems mostly non existant, I'm not comfortable using a 'built in' webserver that lives inside my firewall, and I hate to punch a hole through my firewall directly to this box for ths reason. The 4 fields are set up as required fields. Therefore if you miss a field you get an error page for required information. That all works fine. I'm trying to export a calculation field that concatenates html code with data fields. I need to create a html file by exporting one field called CalcHtmlCode as simple text with an .html extension. There doesn't appear to be a txt filter to do this. The Html filter FileMaker provides inserts my html code in a table which obviously doesn't work. Any suggestions?

We are running filemaker Pro with webserver and here is the issue we are facing. Our clients are able to view their own databases buy entering the webaddress with the database name but if they don't enter a database name it takes them to the main list which has all the otehr database names listed. Hello, I'm having a problem with my Web Companion. I'm fairly new to FMP so I obviously have not mastered it yet. I have 9 databases availible on my internet ip. 8 of them are read only. I would like the corrections database to be able to add records to. In the web security i have the corrections db with browse, edit, and create check but still cannot access it. From home I can access the server via 'FTP' using 'Fetch' software and transfer files back and forth however, using my FM client I cannot see the server or access the hosted database. We need to disable the back button cause we have a customer or two that has the habit of submitting some information, the pressing back and changing it. This gives us two or three emails for the same order which isnt too big of a deal cause we just take the last emailed one, but it is can be a hassle and cause confustion in the future if we or they become careless. We'd like to stop that before it happens... i searched some on hotscripts and javascripts.com and i couldnt find the javascript that disabled the back button. When user performs serach - find for one Location (of total 5 possible) results return just perfect: Location | Total ------------------- LA | $120 These results are retuned when user slecets onyl one of 5 possible locationos from the value/drop down list. I have a RAIC setup with 2 computers running FMPro Unlimited connected to a FMPro Server. One of the computer running Unlimited is a lot new and has a lot faster CPU. Thus, I would like most traffic to go this newer machine. Is there any way getting the Web Server Connector to give the newer machine higher priority. I haven't found any way of doing this.

I am using Instant web publishing with FMP 6 Unlimited. I have applied all the current updaters. The system is accessed by 5-20 people at any given point. The problem is this.... When one user accesses the information they want through a browser (IE 5.5 in this case) and uses the print button or the File>Print option to print the Web Companion generates an error "HTTP session Disconnected" and the file is no longer available for veiwing through the Web Companion. Closing and then reopening the file in FM restores the web connection. This has happened in all cases I know of where the client was printing from a browser. I've looked through other posts …

This CurrentFind returns all of the search critearia eg. Name, Location, Date, Time,Tel I would like to have an option to dispaly only eg. My client has an Access system that I am converting to FMP 6. In Access when the user types in a field an incremental search begins of the Value list i.e. A typed "M" shows the first of the M values, then typing an "i" shows the first Mi values and so one. I need to make this work in my Filemaker solution. Help! Is there a programming technique, plug-in or another solution that you can think of? It may just be that I don't know what to call it in FMP. I have a solution in Filemaker Pro 5.5 using windows 2000 server and Filemaker Pro 5.5 client and I need a web solution so my client can read filemaker data on the intranet and internet. I work with windows, Filemaker Pro 5.5 and Internet explorer 6. I have a FileMaker solution where my client works with a call center and uses the solution we developed . This solution has a link to a webpage where there is a login and a password to enter and then enter the customers ID to be analysed and return if he has credit or not. We managed to have the link to the webpage, but we are not sure about how to automatically enter the login and password and then the customers ID number and get the result in our Filemaker solution. Does someone know how to use active X and DDE execute command.

Okay, I know I should be using web security DB, but it actually behooves my solution to use access privileges. One of my clients has chosen to run unlimited, not through server, but as the host of the file for a couple FMP clients and all the web usage. It seems to be that when users of a restricted password log-on online, they jam the unlimited copy of the DB to restricted settings, and at times, when another user tries to log-on, in fact they will get the message that the DB is not open. Hi, When I try and submit a host to the web server connect program, sometimes (not every time) I receive a "page cannot be displayed" error. I have un installed and re-installed and I still get the same error. I have also recently upgraded to Filemaker 6 and installed the new version of web server connect but still get the same problem. I'm hosting a FM 5.5 database published to the Web (IWP) from a G4 with a static IP. Generally things are OK, but the client wants more functionality--like printing reports. I should be able to make that work with a layout in "table view" in the browser, except that the browser shows no vertical scroll bar and prints only ONE PAGE even if there are more records listed. I have developed a suite of filemaker databases which I now need to share to users over TCP/IP. All files have been set to multi-user, FMPro 6 has been set to use TCP/IP and the host has an ADSL connnection on a Windows XP machine. On starting the testing, I just cannot access the files from another PC! I have the laptop connected to the internet on a dial-up connection. On opening FMPro (also TCP/IP enabled) I go to specify host, type in the IP address of the host - then nothing! Perhaps this is a bit tedious, but I hope someone can help me out... I have a Tasks DB on a macosx and a Projects DB on a PC. One project can have many tasks (1-to-many relationship). No new task can be added unless a new project is created first (or already existed). And there's a Proj_ID field in Tasks that links to Projects. I've created a web form so web users can enter new tasks. However, is there a way to automate everything (add new record in Projects first, then pass the new Proj_ID to Tasks and add user's data)? Do I need to use ScriptMaker? Or PHP will suffice? If so, how do I go about writing the code? Thanks a lot.

I have the web companion running now but i want to expand and do a custom web page to view/edit my database. Hi, custom web publishing, I have just set a field in a message database so that when someone creates a new message, it validates their name against a contact list database. This works OK except that the message that is posted up on failure is being generated by the browser rather than FileMaker and is fairly obscure: "your attempt to edit a record failed because of the following: not a member value of a specified value list on field required_username" I tried setting the mesage to "you must enter your name as it appears on the contact list" in FileMaker, but it has no effect. I recently downloaded FM 6 and am interested in the instant web publishing. I was able to very quickly get the provided Web Companion and template file (Time cards)to be seen and used across the intranet at work (although some of the Web Companion scripts didn't work properly - Submit launched new page). I'd like to use our company's home page to link to the Time Cards file, but WITHOUT seeing the Web companion pages or layout. Currently their website is on the traditional Linux, Apache, Mysql, PHP server (or LAMP sever). Without buying anything, can I host their db on my servers? If I can't just directly host it, is there a easy way to integrate it into a mysql database? Possibly a cron job that pulls a file that's exported from the db ... Greetings! I have begun using FMP to Web-enable some databases. I have a VERY basic database for storing static IP address information for devices on the LAN at the school where I work. I have created a "main" layout that opens when you start the DB. On this layout there is a button that is designed to take you to a "Browse" page that simply lists all of the IPs and devices.
