I am a newbie to FMPro and am stumped about how to get my DB file to print starting from page 57. Each record will print on one page. And I want the first page to be page 57, not page 1. (pages 1-56 will come from another program). I am sure there is an easy way to do this, but I can not figure it out. Any help is appreciated!!!!

I have some questions about printing, sliding, margins as I am deep in those subjects at the moment. 1) I fully understand the sliding options but in some circumstances a line below a page with a lot of slided fields is 'cut in half'. I did NOT select the 'Allow part to break across page boundaries option'. Are there any tips/tricks to avoid this 'cut in half' of a line, or is this something we have to live with. (By the way, the mac OS is 9.02 not X, so X-printing issues excluded) 2) When anticipating possible long texts in a textfield, up till now I presume you have to anticipate the maximum length by stretching that field over a lot of pages, as the field l…

Is there a way to have Filemaker print only whats in the field? What I mean by this is we use a note field to track customer notes and when they have been completely processed and the file is closed we print the note history. Some clients have 1/2 a page and some have 5 pages of notes. Is there a way for filemaker to decide how many pages will be printed and not have the layout 6 pages long with 1-5 blank each time we have a note history printed?

I've recently created a db using FM which integrates into a Word97 doc. The system I am using is quite archaic and chunky.. however my problem is as follows: When merging Word97 and a record from Filemaker pro it strips all bookmarks from the resulting document. I.e if i have a contents page, cross referencing, or macros - all items which rely on Bookmarks in my document, once merged they are all stripped out. Firstly is it a word97 or FM issue, and secondly are there any possible remedies? Please help before I have no hair left!

Any one have success printing consistatly to a network (HP 8150dn) printer, it seems all page setups are all screwed up. When I print everything looks like it's going to print the light on the printer is blinking the all the sudden... NOTHING it just stops. No errors or warnings. Any Ideas?

Hi. I want to facilitate the process of writing an MS Word letter based on Filemaker data. I want to get client data into the address block with some other details (products, purchase date etc.). The letter needs some free form text as well so doing it all in FM is inappropriate. I can see how exporting the data to a text file for Word to use in a merge build might work but this seems a little cumbersome. Any ideas Many thanks.

Hi, I hope you can help. Background: I am running a relational database over an NT network (30-40 users). Server is version 5 (on NT) clients are 5.0v3 on NT, Win 98, Win 2K. We use a number of printers (mostly HP, but some Apple laserwriters). Problem: In a correspondence db, Preview is not displaying exactly what is being printed. The font is being shrunk by between 2-3 points which makes it impossible to include page x/y in the footer, and quite often the final page is blank (or worse: contains the last couple of lines). I have been wrestling with this for a few days now and I am not even sure where to start. I have two databases; one with all my sales people in it and another set up as an email database. What I want to do is to be able to find a group of sales people, all of them in Iowa for example, and then export or somehow get all of thier email addresses into a single CC field in my email database. I can then compose my email message and the "Blast" email them all at the same time. I am using SMTPit for the actual emailing and I have no problem emailing individual sales people through the relationships I have set up between the two databases. Printing addresses on label-sheets. Tonight was an exciting night. Not in the least because I met good friends, but I was able to demonstrate my Filemaker application on their computer. Windows, I have IMac. Some 9 point fonts that are small on the Imac are really too small on the machine I met, so that has to be changed. On windows, when choosing a pop-up menu, the mousecursor is on another value in the pop up than the value actually in the field, so you always have to click outside the pop-up not to change values unwillingly. I can take this off-line if preferred. What is the reason people don't like printing portals? Hello I know that FileMaker 5.5 remember the printing option when you use some scripts (number of copy, ...) Hello, I'm creating an invoice system in FMP 5.5 And i'm working with different fields for inputting the data. so I have a quantity field, a description field, an unit price field, a VAT-code field and a netto price field. These fields are all repeating fields with 25 rows. I can't get the sub-summary section to repeat on my layout. Does the part have to be using the same database the layout's in? Or can you use a relationship, and sort (break) by a related record's field? I have a related database with 4 records from which I want to subtotal certain fields on the report. Only the first record shows in the summary. I don't need to use a portal, do I? I couldn't get that to work either. This is driving me nuts...any helpful suggestions or further clarifying questions appreciated greatly!

Filemaker 5.0v3, Windoze 2000 I have a layout with fields in a potal, plus other fields out in the open, plus other fields on a light gray background. The lightest gray. Portal, some fields, and the gray background all printed black. Text was utterly not visible. I changed the fill pattern for the fields to transparent (don't know why that was necessary, as the fill color was set to white, 255/255/255). Fixed the fields. Same for the fill pattern for the portal itself, set to transparent, fixed the black portal. However, the gray backgrounds are still black. Now for the weird thing - this happens ONLY on…

This probably isnt the right category for this question but anyway: I have a layout which goes entirely "blank" when all records have been deleted from the database. Other layouts within the database still showup but on the offending one I lose backgrounds, buttons - everything. A "new record" request brings everything back.Any suggestions ?

Just curious, if anyone's tried using Open Type in a multi platform environment... I'm curious about it because I can't get equal results on label layouts between different platforms... For those who don't know, Open Type is a new font standard developed by Adobe and Microsoft that's suuposed to be truly cross platform. Can anyone offer a method to parse through several different fields and if an email address is found send an email address to the default client. This is very simple for one static field. I have found a challenge trying to accomplish this when one of five different selectable fields becomes an email address through a popup list. i.e. A popup list of Work, Home, Fax, Mobile, Pager, Email is available for five different fields...Phone1, Phone2, Phone3, Phone4 and Phone5.

Hi, I am having a problem trying to get a trifold brochure to print. The problem is that I have to rotate the second page in order for the tri-fold to print both sides the right way. On the second page there is a graphic, not large, that makes the FMPro app. say that there is not enough memory to complete the operation...the image will be printed without rotation...grrr....It is freaking me out! Has anyone managed to send a slick looking email showing portal data, like for example an invoice, or a purchase order. I've looked at a few plugins, which are good at what they do but I've found limitations. I want to press a button 'email' and thats it no more prompts,popups etc, just a message says hey or ney. The email address is taken from a field The email content is made up of a header showing the company logo etc, and then content is exactly how you would layout a printed copy. i have a repeating fields with 50 lines. We put into these fields the dates that we perform service work, the type of work performed and the amount of service hours consumed on each servicecall. We send out a report to each of our major customers once a month showing their activity for the year. At the bottom of this report we put a note about our specials for the month. We want this note to slide up right under the repeating fields, but it does not. In the layout the note is about 1/8 inch under the repeating field, but when it prints out there is a 3 inch space? Hi everyone! I have a problem that I've been trying to solve for too long and it looks like I'm in a dead end now. I tried everything I could think of - nothing works. I have a bunch of records with repeating fields. Each record represents an invoice, each repeating field represents an item that was sold. A selected portal in my invoicing db is printing sporadically or rather "on top" of the page hiding all of the line graphics behind the portal and extends down into the non portal area. I have been able to reformat the portal and it goes a way for a day and then is back the next. I can move the "infected" portal to the extreme right (off the page) and the invoice will print correctly. This has just started in the last 2 weeks along with an intermitent and sporadic bolding of characters within fields. I have a report that is sorted by drivers names and I'd like to have a total amount for each driver a page break and then the next driver with a total amount etc... I can only seem to get a Total for the whole report adding all drivers. Whats the magic to get total on sub-summary fields? On a second note I am having a wierd problem with page numbers where every page is 1. I checked the footer and the retart page number after each occurance is not checked. This should be a no brainer as it works in other reports properly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm interested in a network label printer that I can print labels to from any computer on the network via a FileMaker layout, which would include custom graphics, fonts, etc. I believe a Dymo LabelWriter 330 and a HP JetDirect 175X USB printserver would be the ticket. I would just like to know how the Dymo appears over the network on Mac and PC systems; like, does it show up as a regular Desktop Printer in Mac OS 9, with similar Page Setup properties as a LaserJet? I want to print address labels for a mailing on A4 size sheets, which have 2 columns of 5 labels, WITHOUT ANY BORDERS. I'm having real problems getting the size of the body right so that the fields print within the label borders. I know that my Panasonic lable printer will have an unprintable area at the top of the sheet and this would be easy if the label sheet had a top and bottom border. Any suggestions appreciated.

I picked up a dot matrix printer to print on mailing labels that are on a track feed. I have the label set up in FM and if i print to my laser printer it looks great, but if i print to the dot matrix, the font sizes are really large, and the spacing is all messed up. Any ideas? This one has me baffled. I have a numeric field that the user enters data into (usually a number from 1 to 50..no decimals). The field entry will not always print. In some case the field will show in the 'preview mode' and print, and in other cases although the field has an entry, the field entry will not show (it's borders do)in the preview mode and will not print the entry (even though there is an entry). For example record 1 - 10 all have the field entries, but only records 2,5,6 will print the field entry (all fields are tagged to print in all records). Please forgive the newbie-ness of this question! I have mailing labels formatted in 12-point Times in one layout ... I go to another layout which has a larger and more readable font (for data entry) and edit the contents of a couple of fields in a record ... now, when I go back to the mailing label format, that larger font and size (from the data entry layout) has 'taken over' the formatting in those fields I edited on the mailing label -- even though the field itself is still showing (under the "Format" menu) that it is in Times 12-point! Hi all, I need to design very complex reports from our FM databases. Now, with all due respect, FM is OK for simple ad-hoc reporting, but when it gets hairy, there must be another solution. Otherwise this will require MANY auxiliary fields, tons of layouts and boatload of scripts to run a report. There are records that have more than one "Sport" assigned to it and those are shown as an individual record. Got a minor (I hope) problem with formatting for printing. Make a DB with a variable-length text box (slider on right). Make about 6 records, and type in varying text strings. Say record 1 has one line of text, record 6 has 500 lines of text. Now, when I print them out I have to specify the size of the box for the text string. If I need to print out all the text, I have to make the box big enough to hold 500 lines of text, which means that the printout for record 1 will have 499 blank lines. I am having problems with getting more than one item in the body section of a grouped report. I have a 2 file relation for tracking bonds. One file is named Source for the broker and the other file is Bonds for the individual bonds. I have them linked by source_id and am creating the report from the Source file. I have used the report wizard to create the sub summary and sub total report grouped by source_id and when previewed I only get one item in the body section for each source when some source records have 2 or more bonds. i have read in a topic in the unlimited forum that you can script fm to automatically print to pdf how can i do this as currently if i want to print to pdf i have to set pdf writer as the defualt printer then change the page setups to scale down five % to get them to fit on a pdf as for some reason pdf have a massive page margin, unlike my other printers please help cheers also is it possible to add multiple print into one pdf this way at them moment i print off various different layout to pdf and they are all printed to different file (obviously) but is there a way to put these all in one file as this is a great consumer of time having to do it…

I have a text entry near the bottom of the page. At times the entry can be lengthy but normally it is only a few lines long that easily fits on the page. To consider the exception of a lengthy entry, I must expand the text entry to the second page. When the record is printed, is there a way to print the second page only when needed? Right now, the printer will always print the second page. Sliding up doesn't seem to help.

I was just making up a quick solution to a simple problem the other day. I had a list of courses, each with a number of participants (anywhere from 1 to 50). I wanted to be able to enter them in a database so they could be sorted by any of the characeristics of the course (name, date created, location, etc). New entries would be made frequesntly. These sorted lists could then be printed or exported as formatted data. (I had tried doing this in Excel, but the variable number of participants was beyond me.) When I print a report of several pages, one of the records on each page will appear to have moved up or down on the page. This puts it out of line with the other records, sometimes cutting off the top or bottom of the text. Preview shows no problem. The same problem can happen when saving to PDF. I am using a loop with Send Mail script step to send emails to 700 records. I use Outlook 2000 on a Windows XP Pro machine using FileMaker 5.0 v3. This works great and I have no problems. When I alter the script to attach a PDF that is over 100 KB in size, the script runs, but no email is generated. If I alter the script to attach a PDF that is <100 KB, the script works fine. I have tested on several machines, all with the same result. Is there an attachment size limit for FileMaker using the Send Mail script?

Hi everyone, It seems like PC is more agreeable with FM printing. For instance, on PC it is enouph to specify Print Setup, and then create the script based on it. The script will remember the settings, but other applications will not (good) On MAC, however, you must "save the settings" if you need to specify tray or just print current record. Fine, but these settins are saved globally for all applications on this machine. You could put the closing part of the letter in a sub-summary part. If it doesn't fit at the bottom of the current page, the whole thing will print on the next page. In the part setup dialog, make sure you don't check the "Allow part to break across page" option. You will of course have to choose a sort field for the sub-summary part. Just pick something unique like a serial number etc., and then make sure you sort on that field before you print.

A few months ago I found an excellent post here which explained how to set up a layout so that a field which spanned multiple pages would print properly regardless of how much text was in the field. For example you could have a field be the body of a letter and if the letter was short it would print a proper one page letter or if the body was longer it would print a two or more page letter without text getting chopped between pages. Anyone know who wrote it and how to find it? I need it again. I have searched but I can't come up with it.

Database Setup: 1 Master 2 Slave Example of Problem: Master has 10 records... Slave has 43 records... They are related by text field called "Initials". The Slave may have 4 records with the same "Initials" value with different info in it else where. QUESTION: I would like to print a numbering scheme on a sheet (Per RECORD) showing "sheet 1 of 4", then "Sheet 2 of 4" etc. Once that RECORD is finished printing, it starts over with the next one ("sheet 1 of 5", etc.). I have a value list with about 10 options (checkboxes) I then have ten fields each one relating to each checkbox. I want the fields to lign up with the individual checkbox, and the text relating to the box, when printed out. Is the only way to do this by trial and error? I am trying to pring mass amounts of envelopes on a Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS with an envelope feeder installed. When I go to print the envelope feeder option is grayed from the paper source. Hi everyone Can someone help me configure a FM label layout. In short we will receive labels on an A4 sheet. There will be 4 labels on each sheet, and most certainly no space between or around them. Since they are to be considered as A6 in my book they should measure 14.85 x 10.5. But when I trie to create my own label with these measures FM refuses to accept them. I don't get 4 labels per sheet or I have to enter a lower value say 14 x 10. That on the other hand leads to data not appearing in the same place on different labels on the same sheet. For anybody who has dealt with printing from FM on MacOSX 1) My HP Business Inkjet 2250tn prints beautifully on MacOSX. However I can't select the tray it prints to. It always prints to the top tray, unless its empty. HP is about as helpful as two-legged hunting dog. I know this isn't entirely a FM problem but since it may have affected other FM users, I am hoping someone might have ideas on where I can go for help. 2) On OS9 I could set up Page Setup to print on envelopes of any size, save the page setup in a script, and next time I needed to print on that size envelope I would simply run the appropriate script. When I print a record, it prints size 250 fonts, resulting in one record needing about 20 sheets to paper to complete its printing on, rather than the usual A5 size The only place I am getting this is on FMP (5.5) - anything else being printed from the computer works OK And, I have a second computer networked to this host computer - and the records print OK when printing from there. Hi, I am using filemaker 4.1 for an MIS system that I have developed for use in my business. There are customer data files, billing file, receipt files, transaction file etc. which are linked to one another. For certain reports where calculations are involved and data has to be captured from related files, it takes a long time for the complete report to appear on the screen. I am getting ready to print some statments. When I look at the statments in Preview mode - they are fine. But - when I print or actually print preview them - they just have one line of information and not the grouped information. I am using sub-summary parts on the layout and I have included summaries when I sort - but I don't think that is the issue. I have the information sorting on Client ID (which is the sorted category in the sub-summary parts) and Invoice ID. What one small step am I missing to get them to print with all the information on them and not just the one item? Thanks

Greetings Folks On my "Accounts" form I have Date_Paid, Invoice_no, Customer & Total_Paid & Grand_Total fields of which are from my "Invoice" form. When I do a Query of the "Invoice" form for all paid invoices from 1/1/02 to 01/31/02 it finds all the invoices paid in that period & then when I open Accounts form in "View as List" mode, all the details are there, including Total. The problem is that when I go to print them out, I get either just the 1st record or sometimes all the "Total-Paid" fields & the Grand_Total. Any ideas as to why this happens? We have an odd problem. We have a large series of related files on a series of Mac (G4) servers. We must bring in chromatogram images from an old PC as a metafile (.wmf). If we pull the file across the network 10/100 baseT, the image loses resolution and will be blurred. If we put the image on a floppy (yes, we still use them), the image is sharp. Why? Also, as a metafile, only a PC can see the image file on the floppy, but it would appear that once the image is in FileMaker, only a Mac can print it. The PC prints a blank where the image is. Curious.

I have a solution that creates healthcare provider directories. The directories are made up of several subsummary reports using data from 6 related files. Each subsummary report is for different sections of the directory. The sections are Medical Groups, Hospitals, PCP's and Specialists. Also, a index is made for each section. So as an example, the specialist index lists all of the specialists with the page number they appear on. This is where my problem comes in. The specialist listing has 107 pages in preview mode and when printed it has 104 pages. Then the index is created on the 107 pages in preview mode, not the 104 pages that print. I'm not sure this fits here and I know it's Friday night - but I am at a total loss. I have figured my way around everything else - but I have no clue as to where to go on this. I am getting ready to print monthly statments. One set of statments have payment plans attached to the original invoice. When I do my find on any invoices that are Payment Plans - everything comes up fine. In Browse mode - each invoice is listed and the payment plan portion is filled out for the orignal invoices. My latest road block: I'm trying to print a report with about 5 different fields. In the layout mode, the fields are all alligned horizonatally in the same row. Here's an odd problem that has recently come up. I'm running FM 5.0 on Mac OS 9.2, printing to a LaserWriter Pro 630 via ethernet (using the Laserwriter 8 driver). I made a "print" button on a layout that just runs the Print command. Lately, it will always print two copies of everything. When I access the print command under the File menu, it prints correctly. I've tried deleting the button and redoing it from scratch, same thing. I've also tried unchecking "print without dialogue" in the print step command. Well, you could create a value list based on that field, then you can copy that. But then you would have to check all the items to be able to copy them. So you could do the above and then create a calc field [text] Field name=Index.calc Look under the design functions and you will find ValueListItems( "Database name here", "valuelist name here") substitute the db name and value list name Then, the items from the value list are shown in the field as standard text. Please help: I have set up a database (FM5.5) running on a win 98 box. I have a second computer (Win XP) connected to our network. Both computers print via TCP to a HP laser printer (PCL5 driver). The driver is identical on both computers other than one is XP and one is W98. Printing from the Win 98 (Host) computer prints records using the print settings saved in the scripts (orientation, printer tray choice, etc.). When I print from the XP computer the settings shouild remain identical. Somehow, though, FM wont change the settings when necessary. Any thoughts?

Hi guys, I've got a problem that I see alot of others have had which is regarding formatting a set of fields to then be emailed to someone. I know that there is a way of formatting name and address using the <<name>>, and to get the date it's // and to get page number it's #. Hello I am trying to use a laser printer as well as an ink jet printer. Some reports go to the ink jet (when I need color) and others go to the laser. I have saved the settings for each report for the different printers but when I run a script to print a report it picks up the printer from the last report, not the one I saved with the report. I have tried checking and unchecking Restore when selecting Print Setup but it doesn't help. I can't figure out what restore does. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is there any way to print to a pdf file automatically. By that I mean without having to specify a file name. Trying to figure out how I can do this using FileMaker - I am sure it is simple. I have written a report - before the report is run the user can make a selection - The selected item is then displayed in the header of the report. This works fine. However, if there is no selection - The assumption being that the user requires all items to print. I would like to display the word "All". The list box only show valid values. The report work well - however when no selection is made the first record item is displayed in the header - Problem - since the report show all items! Can some one help please.
