CATASTROPHIC Fatal Forms Rendering

Featured Replies

I finally got FM Pro 7 up under IIS but now real grief has set in:

My output screen is completely dead!

The web output has terrific fidelity to my original FM Pro layouts, BUT in all that complex dHTML they forgot to make the fields, buttons, and menus work... at least in my case. (See attachment. It contains both the dHTML source code and a screen capture showing the rendering.

Further, both Go-Live syntax checker and the W3C HTML checker complain bitterly about the output code. W3C got very confused indeed. (This reminds me of the days when people tried to use MS Word for web publishing and it's output was so bad that FrontPage couldn't interpret it and half the time IE couldn't display it.)

The real problem is a JavaScript bug. The output page tries to use a top.iwp variable before it's initialized. Additionally the code checks for a null value without first checking to see of the variable object exists at all.

I have combed the forums and the only issue I spotted was one guy who said all associated files had to be explicitly loaded for the rendering and intercepts to work properly. So okay, I loaded all files explicitly, but still no working screen. I also downloaded SP-1 for IE.6 with no change observed.

Now here it gets weirder: I forced error reporting on, and retested the FM Pro 7 page on Win-XP and Mac with Internet Explorer, Netscacpe Navigator, Mozilla, ... and Opera. Both Mozilla and IE manage to report a JavaScript value error, BUT... Opera managed to successfully parse and format the screen AND it accepted the output correctly!

So all the big boys- Explorer, Navigator, and Mozilla choked on FM Pro's funky output, buy lil ole Opera managed to work with it.

Since I can't depend on people to use Opera, HELP. Who can suggest a direction in which to take the serious, work-stopping problem. Thanks.

NOTE: 7.0.2 (update v.2) has NOT fixed the problem.

FM (the company) has openly and graciously responded that they still have a number of outstanding IWP problems they're working on.

  • 7 months later...

Can I assume they are still at the same point with 7.0v3? I'm having terrible problems trying to publish my FM db still.

Is anyone successfully using IWP to publish dbs that allow Find to work?

how are you looking to execute your find?

(criteria, etc. ?)
