How to search the field for multiple values from the web with? For example, I would like to find the records containing Panasonic & Nokia in Manufacturer field. Thanks.

I am building a web site with about 20 FM databases in the backend. I'd like to put one search field on every web page, similar to Amazon.com. Is there a way to search for all the values in all fields in all databases? In other words, to perform a search of the entire web site. Thanks

I have been using FM for over 16 years but I am a newbie at trying to make it work on the web. First off, my Web Host will only accept SQL. So started to teach myself SQL....(lol)! I'm new to Filemaker, so please use small words. I've created an artist web site using FileMaker Pro 6. Every thing is working great. The only thing I need on the site is for users to be able to upload their images to their profiles. I would like each artist to be able to load up to 5 images. Hi, I've just started getting an error in one of our databases when sending an "edit" action from a CDML page. This happens in only *some* records and the "FMP-CurrentError" tag returns "-50" .........I can't find that error anywhere in the documentation. Does anyone know what a "-50" is?? thanks, jeff

Hi. I am sure this problem has to have been discussed at a previous time, but I can't find it anywhere... One of my clients hosts their DBs solely through FMU, not using server. The Unlimited copy is open with the master passwords. Web usage has very limited capabilities with no password, and then different tiered capabilities for about 5 other passwords. The problem has been (and this is the same solution that many clients use, but it's only affecting one client) is that often times, when a web user with no password accesses the DB, it switches the DB being used by unlimited to "no password" from the master. I want to send my mails using my own web pages connecting to hotmail. Yes it works if I have connection to internet via modem or newtwork.. I want to keep the records of the receivers. I prapered the programs. It works. But when it is not connected to internet again it works and keeps the receivers' records as it sends the mail successfully... That is problem. How can I understand that or File maker understand that there is no connection to internet?

Does anybody know how the Access Log works? I mean, does it throw the requests onto the log as it receives them from the browsers (as it puts them in the queue) or does it write to the log as it pulls them out of the queue to process them? That might help me track down some errors I've been getting. If anybody knows of a place that explains the access log a little better that would be helpful too. I searched Filemakers techinfo articles but didn't find anything.

I'm wonder what the web can actually do. We have a large filemaker database that uses a runtime app to connect to the server. We are looking at upgrading away from filemaker server 3. Hello, I've been using mySQL for a while, but now I need to use FileMaker Pro 6.0 for a project on Mac OS X server, and I'm pretty confused on the best way to access FileMaker from the web. I need to be able to enter data from the web site into FM, display from FM to the web site...etc. That's really easy to do with Perl, however, I hear that MacPerl isn't compatible with FM because it doesn't work with DBI. Is that true? I know that I can use one of several templates provided by FM to do what I need, but is there another way to access it from the web with a language like Perl? They let you automate most of the design-work of a site so you can concentrate on content. And they let you form communities, leverage RSS feeds, and all kinds of other cool stuff. Hi, I have a web set up to interface with my Filemaker database. Everything works really well - except that when I perform a search through the web, not all of the matching records appear. For example, if I perform a search in my browser for all records with an identified language of "English", only 130 matching records appear. However, there are over 1100 records in the file with a language of "English". The -max value doesn't affect this. No other search criteria produces any results at all, by the way. Hi, I'd like to share reports with users through my web interface. Ideally, I would be able to have them trigger a script which allows them to download a .tab file exported from FMP. I've heard of the problems with using FM scripts on the web, and I was going to risk it but I haven't been able to get the report to download to the user's computer anyway. Here's the deal: Hosting FMU 6 files on a OSX Server Using IWP and ScripMaker scripts Using Internet Explorer to view On my home computer using IE, when I click a button that returns the search results (submit -find requests), it opens a new browser window with my results. This is the only PC that I have noticed this problem. On my PCs at work (Dells) with IE 6.0.2800.1106 (same version that I have at home) it doesn't do this. Help!! It worked fine during testing on a local machine, but now the web user can't edit records. Seems to be an OSX permissions issue. I don't even have a password in the db right now. I must be missing something simple, and I remember running across a statement that said you can't edit records unless . . . , but I can't find itnow! Hi all I'm searching an Email field for email addresses on the web. I make the search an Exact search (i.e. the operator is equal). But I find that the "@" and the "." separate the words in the filemaker field so it's not an exact find. So if I search for "joe", I will still find [email protected] because the word "joe" is a separate word in that field (since the @ is like a space) If I search for "joe@hotmail" I will find [email protected] because the word "joe" and "hotmail" are separate words in that field (since the @ and . is like a space) Does anyone know what my problem is? Hi, How can I have a different page load in a particular frame on the index (main) page each time the site is accessed? I would like to create the effect where a viewer sees a different set of 4 images every time they enter the site. Each image has a FMPro link which appears in the lower frame when activated. All together I will have about 20 pages (4 images per page). Now these images overlap, are different sizes, have rollover effects and links to another frame on the index page, so I have to change hard coded pages and not just the images on one page. When a user initially arrives at this site, they do a search (often a find all). I need to save that search so that I can return them to it after singling out one record. I am trying to set a token to that value, but when I display the token (Token: [FMP-CurrentToken]), nothing shows up. I tried setting it to [FMP-Current Find], [FMP-Link] in an input field, nothing. I have a search results page with several lines of records in a table. First I would like to show a checkbox checked or unchecked based on the data in the record. Is that possible? Next, I would like to have the web user check or uncheck that box, have a submit button at the bottom of the page that will edit the database accordingly. I have a bunch of pdfs in a db - I understand that they are a link to the files location and through the web companion jpegs are displayed - I would like the original pdf to be downloaded to the users desktop when the image is clicked from the browser - how is this possible.

Hi, folks! In a recent post on FM6 [post #74002], users mentioned lasso having greater security features. I cannot seem to get the Web Security Database to allow me to limit fields by user. If I am not mistaken, however, FileMaker's Acess Privileges DOES allow you to limit users to certain fields. WSD allows you to specify user "powers" (browse/create/edit, etc.) but only seems to let you limit fields for everyone, not individual users. Is this true? I want general public users to view certain fields only. I want higher level users to see all fields (or a greater number of them). I thought this would be a basic function in WSD but I'm stuck. Hello. I've run into an odd problem using value lists on an intranet server. I have a field, "Assigned", with value list "Assigned" and the field is defined in Options/Validation as "Not Empty", member of value list "Assigned" and "Strict: Do not allow users to override validation." While it will not allow a new record direct in the FileMaker database without a selection in that field, on the web with pulldown list for the value list it will allow a new record to be created without specifying a choice. Hi there, now i have filemaker unlimited, so i want to try the web function, so i put one of my solution to try it, after i try, i found that most of my button can't work, it only can work with simple function like new/delete record, and even can't set the button to perform script. And on web browser, if we want to print, we only can print the whole page including the menu bar. We have been running a work flow solution on Filemaker Server here for years, a company of about a dozen people. It is currently running on a 450 mhz G3 tower, but I have a newer Win2K box available which I can switch to. Here's the problem. We recently opened a remote office, another 5 people, 2,000 miles away. They have a T-1 going in there as we do here. Silly me, I thought they would be able to connect directly to our server here through IP hosting and life would go happily on. Hi, We have two related databases - one is People.fm5, and the other is Events.fm5. Each record in Events has to refer to one of the people in People.fm5. So we relate the two with a unique ID number, and a portal in People finds all the events for each person. We currently have a Filemaker 5 database that is a searchable image archive (jpgs etc) and is served by Filemaker Unlimited 5.5 (Windows) over the web. So if a user wants to find a jpg image related to a particular subject they can search for it from the web enabled Filemaker page. Currently the images reside in the FileMaker Web folder but we now want the images to exist on a separate physical drive in the PC. Do anyone know how to accomplish this with Filemaker Unlimited? We have a number of websites running using a FMPro back end. On some of these websites they have a shopping basket type function. When a new order is placed, it prints the invoice and sends an email notification. The problem we have is that the email is not always getting sent- sometimes it works and others it doesn't - The email is sent using the cdml tags in a form -i.e. <input name=-mailto [email protected]> the print function is actually done using a -script that is also triggered in the same form as the mailto i.e.<input name=-script value=print> The printout works everytime, but the email doesn't - does anyone have any…

Using the Filemaker client program, the formatting of list fields looks fine, but using the web it looks strange; the pulldown controls appear in the middle of some fields, and take up the entire field in others. ...however guest using FMP6 has no problem seeing and using hosted DB files from FMS. Why is that? We are using port 5003 as usual (otherwise it wouldn't work with FMP6) only FMP5 doesn't see the files when I enter the same IP as I would with FM6.

Hi All, i am trying to host a FM db on the web. all files reside on the web server. now it is linked from the home page of my website Which i have configured in the web companion plug-in. The user will login then i want them to insert their user name and password, which i have set up on the web security dbs. but when i log in and try to get in to the databse - it just comes up with saying the databse isnt open but it is named the same as the link in the html file and also the same as specified in the web security db! any help would be appreciated!! or any better ideas? thanks

I have been on with FM techs and Linksys and haven't resolved anything, so I did some research on the web and found you guys - your help would be greatly appreciated: Me (Host): Running FM 5.5, Win98, Linksys Router, have forwarded port 5003 Guest: Running FM 6.0, XP - when they enter my WAN IP address nothing shows up in the host box Linksys tech had me set up a static ip for my computer where port 5003 is forwarded. So I can now access my database on a different computer (using FMPro Client) and my file requires a password. BUT in the event of my server crashing I have automated my server to restart and my FMPro database to re-open. I have entered the default password under Preferences > Document, i.e. selecting "When opening database try default password ******" However, this allows my database to open automatically over TCP/IP too without the need of a password! hi All, i have been asked to create a fm db which is hosted via the www and read only access. now the information shown is to be taken from another fm database (internal). so i will export the info from the internal db and export it to the web db. i will do this via a script or lookup. Now the problem i have is that it would ideally need to be in real time i.e. when a record in the internal db is modified this immediatley modifys the relating record in the web database. any ideas on how i can do this/any better ways of doing this?

Hi, I am very new to filemaker. Could someone please recommend a replacement method to external scripts with Instant web publishing. Many of the buttons on the starting form of my database use scripts which contain perform external script. One work around might be changing the script so it uses the Open step, then when the file opens, it has a startup script which pulls up the right layout. But this wouldn't work for multiple buttons that open the same file, just different layouts. Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi, I would like to create a simple online Web user registration system much like any forum registration system where users can manage their own usernames and passwords. Once a legit username and pw gets entered, user only sees his/her own account (record) and can update address, tel number etc. Is this difficult to do? hi All, i have been asked to create a fm db which is hosted via the www and read only access. now the information shown is to be taken from another fm database (internal). so i will export the info from the internal db and export it to the web db. i will do this via a script or lookup. Now the problem i have is that it would ideally need to be in real time i.e. when a record in the internal db is modified this immediatley modifys the relating record in the web database. any ideas on how i can do this/any better ways of doing this?

Hi - complete newbie here again, I have just tried constructing a very basic custom web page to search and read data off a single database shared from another computer (I am starting simple!). I thought it was all OK, but when I tried to seach from my HTML page, I got an error message telling me that the layout was not found. However, the database I am trying to read only has the one layout? So I am stuck. Can anyone help? Nancy

I see within FileMaker Pro you can adjust the text font, size and color of a field, which works great. Although when I view the same records via my CDML coded web pages, all the text looks the same. Is there a way to get the font, size and color to carry over to CDML/Web? Or am I just doing something wrong? Thanks, -- Walter

Okay here is the situation. Created a Database file for client to allow for imput of medical data in compliance with future FDA approval of new cancer drug. Client loves the database design and layout Now they want the database published to the Web so that remote users can access the information and update the testing. I was wondering if filemaker will allow different servers to host different layouts of the same file such that layout#1 on server1 has "read-only" access, layout#2 on server2 has "read/write" access, etc. ? I would like the different layouts hosted on our company's intranet. Is this possible and if so how? The reason is so we would have one file with different layouts served over the intranet each with varying access rights. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi We have FileMaker Pro Server running on a 1GHz xServe (hosting about 20 databases) and FileMaker Pro Unlimited 6.0 linked off there running the Web Companion. It's run as the foreground application and there would normally be 10 concurrent users. Would I see any performance increase by running FileMaker Pro unlimited on it's own standalone Mac (say, a G3 300MHz running OS X). Thanks!!

I'm puzzled by this question. I'm trying to create a response page that highlights or makes bold the find criteria everytime it occurs in the body. So a search on the word "horses" would return: There are many [color:"red"]horses in that field over there. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?

Help!! I have a database with approx. 18 files that I need to give users access to through the web. I have been reading information on this website as well as others and I am totally confused. I have played with CDML a bit and have read that it is limited to what it can do. Would Lasso be something I should consider? What benefit would this give me? I am also seeing MySQL, PHP, LDML, etc. talked about. What are they and what are their benefits? I have been thrown into this project without much web experience and told to make it work. I have FM Dev. 6 and have made a solution which my customer would like to use on the web instead. I have tried share the db using the web companion, but there is lot of bugs when I open the db. I have read in the manual that there is a issue about amount of script step per buttons and foremost button specified graphics( which I have lot of). And then there is the 10 user limitation in the web companion that must be found a solution for. I guess I have to move into FM server or so, but I would like to know if I for sure I can make the db and its scripts and functions available for the user in its existing form on the web? Mabuhay! I have an Filemaker DB which I publish to our office intranet using CDML. On my, <Form> Tag I have a textfield that will receive the criteria for searching the DB. My question is: how can I initiate a search by just pressing the <Enter> key of my keyboard after placing text as my search criteria. I am hosting a FM database on new iMac. When I access the DB while specifying host on a remote machine the DB takes a long time to open while "summarizing" which is a summary field used to count the records. Any way around this. While on a LAN connection this takes only 10 seconds. But open remote takes about 5 minutes. Help?

I currently send Emails out of my FileMaker Pro 6 (no plug-ins) with great success. My question is, can I also send HTML Emails out of FileMaker 6 and if so, how is it done. If the "how it is done" is more complicated than the law allows. Where could you send me to find this out? Thanks, Bill

After "just looking" at the posts on this site, I decided to join up and post a question about web hosting using FileMaker. I have done many simple projects using CDML for our clients but my most recent involves the use of several related databases. I am trying to figure out if CDML is worth the effort as the main file and layout has multiple row portals that must all be added to and deleted from with checkboxes if possible. I'm using FMPro 5.5 in the Mac OSX (V10.2.6) environment and would like to be able to test my website and databases without being connected to a network. My databases are located in the Web folder of the FileMaker folder as are the web pages. The instructions for testing which are presented in the Help menu are those applicable to OS 9.x (e.g. they refer to "control panels," etc.) but don't translate well to OSX. Has anyone had success with this? If so, it would be wonderful to know what your Network Preferences are and how you were able to change the Web Companion TCP/IP port number from 80 to something else.

I'm using Filemaker to e-mail certain information to customers. I'm not using plugins or scripts, doing this directly through Filemaker and the e-mail part is working beautifully. It's the information in the e-mails that is not showing up. I've looked at the examples that come with Filemaker and have set up a text file for the body of my e-mail. In this text file, I'm inserting field names such as "Hi [FMP-Field:firstname] [FMP-Field:lastname]!", which ARE indeed fields in my database. Yet when I receive the email, the space where this information should be is blank. Instead it shows just "Hi !" What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm trying to figure out how to automatically post form data from the Filemaker database (not when using the web version; when using a script). With DDE Execute (iexplore as the service, www_OpenURL as the topic, and the URL as the command) I can open the website I want. Can somebody give me an example of a script or command that will also post particular data and then enter it?

This is my first day traying the Web interface FM generates to use the databases currently running on the computer. I can edit, create new and all but I cant RUN ANY SCRIPTS! Simple scripts that just make some easy calcs dont run. I asigned the script to a button of course to run it. I read some place that It could be the java that its disabled on my comp but I think I checked and its ok.

I am trying to learn how to read my Access.log. I see things like "GET /md/ HTTP/1.1" 200 4572 What does the 200 mean? What does the 4572 mean? Then I see "POST /md/FMPro HTTP/1.1" 0 Does the 0 tell me whether the post was successful or not? Is there any way of knowing what was posted? Has anyone tried using software to compile FM access logs? I searched and found out about "sawmill". Anyone used it? Is something else better for troubleshooting and monitoring for security reasons?

Dear All, Is it possable to create a webpage to display different reports on one database? For example - I have a large database, each record has a job number. I would like to use a web page for a user to search on a job number, then display a page listing all the details. Okay, I'm going a little crazy. I've read through a bunch of the posts on displaying a value list that is based on related values and I'm still not able to do what I need. I've got a database that is essentially a clothing inventory/availability. I have a value list called "sizes" which contains all the available sizes for all items in the database. In the db this is displayed as check boxes. If an item is available in a particular size, the checkbox is checked.
