    Hello...I'm very sure this find is simple...I just can NOT figure it out to make it work. Here's the deal. There's a pull down full of colleges where our events are going to be held, a 2001, 2002 and 2003 button...and then a find button. All I want to do is pull down the list and select a certain college (Covanent College for instance), click on the year, 2003 for instance, and then hit find and have FM show the results in a specific layout called Camp Registration Overview showing only that College for 2003 that will display all the events going on at that college.     I'm using FileMaker 5.5 . I have a report layout and a find layout. I have a script that takes the user to the find layout and shows the result on the report layout. On the report layout I have a global field so that the user enters data on that global field to prevent the user from changing data by mistake. The problem is that it isn't possible to enter data in a global field during find ?     I have just spent the last 2 hours thinking I am going stupid - perhaps I am but a very simple sequence appears not to work I have a simple manual find followed by a simple sort. Both the find and the the sort are attached to scripts - BOTH WORK FINE on their own. But... Enter find mode and then enter criteria hit return as step 1 of another script then run the sort immediately afterwards on the found set as teh second step AND.... Nothing! I just cant see why. I have tried various combinations of keeping and restoring the finds and sorts in the script steps all to no avail. I am sure this is a case of mental block so please help asap thanks everyone

    Hi All I have an intake DB that stores a list of children awaiting placement into foster homes. When placed, the kids are removed and put into a child database. The ones that remain eventually move into a "unable to place" mode. Occasionally, these kids are referred to the agency again and need to be moved from the "unable to place mode" to a "remain in intake" mode. What I need to do is create a find feature that will allow a social worker to enter FNAME, LNAME, DOB, and SSN and have the database identify if the child has been in the intake process prior to the current referral.     Thanks guys- I have another related problem: I have a main menu with 4 button choices: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Wrestling-each button goes to a different layout- I have over 3000 records in the entire database. Is there any way that when I select a layout it goes to the correct set of records- for each sport? Is there a checkbox that I can put in each record to specify the sport- and then have it search by this?     I have a layout for students to sign up to take an SAT Prep course. It has 8 sections of Radio Buttons to choose Verbal and/or Math on 4 particular days at 2 particular times each day. I want to create another layout that will keep track of who signed up for each particular day/time. Ex. - If Johnny picks the Verbal on Monday from 3-5 p.m., how can I get the second layout to show the name of the students who chose the Radio Button for Verbal on Monday from 3-5 p.m.?     I need to do a find based on two numeric fields being the same. The value itself will not be constant. In other words the search criteria is that the two fields are the same, regardless of the value in the fields. I am clueless at the moment - only a couple of days into FM (Pro 6) and I can't seem to get to first base with this. Once it gets worked out I then need to save that search somehow - I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be some straight-forward way of saving queries (finds) - but I'm sure that's just my lack of conceptual understanding at the moment.     I'm having difficulty using the find command and "<". I have a calculation field (in a portal) that calculates if my clients paid less than their monthly payment. To do a find on who is short this month, i'm finding on this months date (on the date field in the portal (which has the date - MM/DD/YY)) and the payment calculation field using <0 - meaning they owe money (the calculation field will show a negative balance so i want it to find the negative balance).   22. We need to send E-Mails from within a filemaker runtime aplication on Win32 platforms. Moreover we need to attach a specific file to the mails we send. The only way we can locate this file is by using a relative path to the database we are currently working in (we will place it in the same folder but we don't know the absolute path!). Of course we already tried some plug ins (dbMailer and SMTP.it), but we didn't find a way to attach the file as we don't know the absolute path to it. Does anybody have a solution???     Hey, I am having this problem... Well, I have a FMP files with around 70,000 records. Everytimes I do a search/find/delete a record or multiple record it takes a long time to complete (average 20min). Is there anyway to solve this problem? I have two FM databases Main and TimeSheet, in timesheet you enter a job number and a status code status (1 to 5) and the start and finish time on that job - it give you the hrs/mins used for that job - setup in a columnular page/line entries. The main Database holds the job number for the look up and that works fine.     I am writing a report which needs to exclude records which have x in field X (boolean OR) have y in field Y. I did this in find mode by making a request to omit records with x in X and added a second request to omit records with y in Y. So far so good. Here's my problem: My report generating script goes to find mode, and then pauses on a layout so the user can enter the ID number they want the report on. I might not be entrering the correct search terms. What i have is a membership database that tracks member information. Pretty basic. I do have a field that is called DueDate and we simply use this field to track the date the member has paid there membership dues. I could enter find mode then get a script to copy and paste the data across, however i would rather use set field but this does not seem to work.     Here's what I would like to do: I have 2 files called Customers and Prospects. I would like to somehow compare the two files. If a Customer record appears in the Prospects file (based on first and last name) I want to remove the record from the prospects file.     I have a field (Decision) whose value is selected from a value list. Two of the possible values are Exempt and Exempt + Pts. On many finds, I want to omit Exempt while including Exempt + Pts. The obvious solution is to Omit where the field Decision has find criteria: ==Exempt. To test this, I did a simple find (not an omit) where Decision had aforementioned criteria (==Exempt) and I get no records found message when I know I have 200+ records that match this criteria. If I leave out the exact match symbol and just find on Exempt, then it returns the 200+ where the decision is exempt as well as the 100+ where the decision is exempt + pts. I need to run reports monthly showing how many days the residents were here in that month.     Hi all, I've got a file that I use as a list that other files access. It contains each possible item for checkout. e.g. if there are 10 Hyperstudio CDs available for checkout there is a record Hyperstudio1, Hyperstudio2, Hyperstudio3, etc. Now I want to be able to print off a sheet of everything available for checkout, but I only want the last record to show on this sheet.     I've converted an old Excel spreadsheet to a FM database. In my old Excel file I had a list with a column called MoD that contained one of six possible values (FTP, AdDrop, Disk, AdExpress, AdDirect or empty). My new FM database contains a cell called MoD and I need to be able to count how many records have a value of "FTP in this cell, how many have "AdDrop" in this cell, and so on and so on...     2 databases.... 1 statisical with one record just counting records from other bases. The other has 2500 records or so which has a field describing who's approved and how they uploaded the file.     i have a file where i need to search for empty fields regularly. i'm using a find script that puts an equal sign in the field and then displayes the records - easy enough. there are some records i want to exclude from that find, because they're supposed to be empty, so i figured i just put a space in these fields, so they're technically no longer empty, but the find script still returns them as being empty. can i trick FM to make a space count as data? the smallest character i could find (a period) still counts as empty by that script. any normal ascii character works as expected, but then the field doesn't really look empty any longer.

  59. Hi all. I have an event file with each event occurring on some date. I have another file, of activities, each with its date. The events and activities can be related via a common denominator, bookstore ID. What I need is to identify those activity records that fall within 1 week before and two weeks after any event to which they are related. Many of the activity records are not related to any event records and will be omitted. But some activity records could be related to more than one event record.     I have records for events at bookstores. Some stores have multple events. I want to Find those stores with multiple events with a date range. With Date1...Date2 in the date field and ! in the store ID field, the found set includes stores that have only one event within the date range. These store do have additional events outside the date range. Why does the Find include stores with only one event within the date range?

    The FIND button worked great in my layouts when I was dealing with one set of records. When I was able to divide the data into two sets, filtering governed by a find on one field to separate in the "go to" scripting of both layouts, then the FIND ALL stopped working since it is still returning answers in both data types. I've been trying since yesterday to fix this and I did post in the scriptmaker forum but realize that that was a mistake and it should go here. Which is probably why I have not had any answer.     I want to omit all but one duplicate in a find. I have a class roster for each weekday but the people change daily. I only need them to sign in once so, I want to find only the first occourance of a person's name and omit the rest. This is to generate a list each day of people who were not on a previous list.     Help! I have a DONORS db (parent) and a related db of Donations (child). We add a record in the Donations db for each donation made with the donation date. In a portal (of donations), I do a find in the donation date field for all donations made during the year for DONORS. The found set of DONORS includes anyone who has donated during 2002, which is great, but the portal also lists all the pre-2002 donations. How do I omit these pre-2002 related records so I can print a 2002 YTD tax receipt for each DONOR that doesn't include portal rows of 2001 record. THere is a properties page that includes the contact info for the property, and the property's features (ie; number of bedrooms, baths, type of parking, area in town, dog, cat, etc.).     I am a relatively new user, I just can't figure out how to use the FIND to show me records that have a particular field empty. I know how to use the IsEmpty function in a calculation, but is there a symbol to put in a filed when performing a find? I have tried < a certain # and <>. I need to solve this problem for fields that contain numbers, dates and text. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there. I have a re-direct page that finds a user name & gender and goes to the specified format file. The code looks something like this "...&username=john&gender=M&-find". When editing this line in my HTML editor, it says there are invalid characters, but the code works in Internet Explorer. The code does not work in Netscape unless I put the dash character before the search fields "...&-username=john&-gender=M&-find". This, however, produces an error in IE. Has anyone had a problem with this before? Thanks!

  73. I've run into an interesting problem with the search routine I'm building into a solution. Say I have a record whose email field has the value "[email protected]" If I perform a search for "[email protected]" no records are found. But if I only search for "a.com" it finds the record. I know the problem is with the "@" but I'm not sure how to get around this, since users will want to be able to search for email addresses using the complete address.

    Let's say I have an employee database. To save space, is it possible to set up something like a pop up menu, but the pop up menu would include all the fields in the database? For example, someone could select "city" and then in a space enter "Chicago" and then do the search.     I have a Invoice LineItem db. It contains PayorID (related to Payor db) and ClientID (related to Client db). Each month it will contain 2-3,000 lineitems. Our payors have two criteria: 1) Each client must be on a separate invoice and 2) Invoices can only have six lineitems.     I have a large database with 3 fields (procedure1, procedure2, and procedure3) which may contain many responses from value lists. each of the 3 fields may have any of the value list responses. I would like to have a summary page where the frequency of each response is given. I have worked out a way of doing this by running a script with a loop counting through all records and checking the 3 fields for their contents. This has to be done for each possible answer from the value list, then putting each on the page. I want a script that simply goes back into Find Mode with the fields filled in like they were the last time Find was performed. (Not with what were there when the Script was created.) In the past, I have created a browser-like find (type in search terms, hit enter/return, results appear in list) by concatenating the fields to be searched into one field, indexing it, putting the user into find mode on that field.     Is there a way to have variables in find mode? I have a bunch of finds that search for a specific $ amount. The price has gone up so I have to change all the find scripts. When I update the find this time I want have a variable for the money so if the $ amount gets changed again I will only have to update it in one place instead on 20.

    Hey guys, I have this field that uses a value list of checkboxes. For some reason, when I do a find; checking a checkbox and trying to perform the find, but I get this error regarding the checkbox field: - "This field contains invalid find criteria, allow the invalid value?"
