I have created a FileMaker solution to run a contest. My question is this: I have FileMaker Developer 6 and have created a runtime version of my solution. Is there a way to network 3 or 4 computers to that file as a Local Area Network (no internet connection-just an ethernet hub) so that several users could input information into the file at the same time? If that won't work, is there a way to do this without each computer having its own copy of FileMaker Pro installed? I'm dealing with schools, and want to keep the cost down as much as possible.

  3. Hello everyone and Thank you for your responses. I have been parttime developing solutions for small companies over the last four years. I do this as a side profit. I have always been using just the program to make these customized databases...do I really need to upgrade to be using the Developer software? Is it really worth it? I mean, I have been developing for a while, just on the main program, and advising my clients to buy the same program...it is just a lot of money to upgrade to developer and I want to know that it is really what everyone is using who is publishing databases for people..? Thanks!

Has anybody been successful in using FM Developer Tool (v. 5.5) under the new Jaguar Mac OS 10.2? I tried it on 2 computers and neither the OS X nor the "classic" version works. They start up normally but unexpectedly quit half way through the process of generating standalone files (I tried with several different files.) I am preparing a commercial CD ROM based on FM and I am seriously considering doing it as a Windows-only product, I am having just too many problems with my Macs recently.

I tested it on two different PC's that didn't have Filemaker on them and they launched and tested fine. You are all swell in my book! Thank you very much for the tips. Maia

Or I'm missing something .... again. OBKICKER is a file that imports a record and then calls an external script to find data and export it. OBSTART is a file that just runs an external script from the same file as OBKICKER but different script. Both are looking at CHART on the FMS. OBSTART is supposed to sit on a client and open the entire application by simply calling the INITIALIZE script of CHART. Both files have been run thru SDK and been bound. OBKICKER works just fine. OBSTART does not. It says that it cannot open the file because it is not part of "this solution" What is the difference? Both call the external script in the same way.

Hi, i just start learning FileMaker, i just want to ask how to set the kiosk mode center of the monitor screen, because I have design a sample without maximum the windows size, so each time i compile it into runtime solution in kiosk mode and run it, it will post at the top of the screen and cannot on exactly the canter of the screen. And another question is everytime i close the runtime solution file, it will show a message box which say that it is develop by FileMaker Developer, can i hide the message box?

Hi... New to developer. I ran the developer tool on my solution (7 FMPro dbases), selected the appropriate lead file and chose to continue. The Solution was created in a folder with several other files. The solution is labeled with the name I gave it and the extension .exe. When I launch this file it does not launch the program. It appears to get started but nothing happens... Any ideas? Curt

I have created an FMP Solution which I think would be helpful to a niche group, but I'm afraid that this niche group may not all have a copy of FileMaker Pro, so I want to make it self-contained if possible. I am assuming that the term "runtime", which I've seen in these posts, means a self-contained application(?) Assuming I am correct on this point, then my question is whether I need ANY programming skills (because I have none) in order to take this FMP Solution that I've created and make it into a self-contained, stand-alone application that I may distribute freely to others? FYI - I am using FMP 5.5 on a Mac G4. Thanks for any advice...

My Hex reader show that Filemaker Export has changed the line breaks to 0B when I need them to remain 0D 0A. I can copy and paste the data to MS-Notepad - the line breaks are OK = 0D 0A If I export in Filemaker - the line breaks are changed to 0B Any Ideas how I can fix or override this problem. export.txt

Hi, I'm creating a runtime solution that will be going out to many users. Will they be able to do mail merges in Word using data in the solution files? I'm sure that they'll need the FM ODBC drivers to do it. Can these be distributed as part of a solution and installed like other ODBC drivers on the users' systems, or would this violate the liscensing agreement with FM? Thanks for any help. Dan

It works fine in the regular way, running through the FM environment. Are there issues here? If it can't be done, I'm pretty much screwed. Thanks for any help, Dan

I hope someone can help me. I developed a Filemaker 4.0 Runtime database and installed it on a LAN network. The network stations have various types of printers attached. This causes printing problems with milti-page documents. The page breaks do not work properly at some of the workstations. Is there a script that I could use to address this problem?

Is it possible to update/patch a runtime solution? I don't want a user to need a completely new version and have to go thru the hassle of exporting and importing (if it were even possible) if a problem/bug was found. I'm sure I am a fairly new user compared to you guys here, so please don't be too harsh if this is a stupid question. Thanks.

I'm wondering if there are many users of Waves in Motion's Analyzer 3.0. I bought it in about October last year along with FMDev 6.0 and have been unable to use it reliably because of a few ackowledged bugs. Since they still have not issued a working version I'm sort of thinking there can't be much demand for it. If that's the case what do other developers use to debug and document their applications? So I have an upgrade to a runtime solution, which will include an Import script (why make customers do all the work?). The problem is, some of the files in the original solution won't let the data be imported into the new solution. In setting up the import, when I get to the setup dialog box (to match field names), all the fields in the old solution are listed as "access denied". This doesn't happen with all of the old files, just some of them. Since they all have exactly the same access privileges, I can't make head or tail of this. What could be causing the snafu?

Hi All, I have created two runtime products with developer 6 and am having trouble with distribution. The windows .zip version works fine but the OS X and the Mac Classic versions are having there filemaker extensions (import filters) corrupted during the file transfer. Sometimes even the runtime file itself is generic. I'm just using stuffit to create the .sea or .sit files for Internet download, and even transfers using file sharing create the same problems. Has anyone else having been having this problem or have any solutions. I can't find any relative info. on filemaker's support site. Thanks in Advance Bruce

Help! In a runtime solution you can add an "About ..." menu in the Help menu. Its a script called "About" and it points to a layout in the main file. It's supposed to display info on your business and solution so FileMaker won't get calls on it. This About menu is accessible from any file in the solution (under the Help menu). Unfortunately, if you're in a different file, other then the main file and access the About menu option, after reading it and clicking OK, you're sent back to the main file. It won't send you back to the file you were in! I called FM tech support and they couldn't solve it. Does anyone have a solution or suggestion? Thanks!

We are considering building a stand-alone report generator that permits FM users to easily do complex reports with a full scripting language built in. It is slated to allow users to maintain separate files -- outside the FM project database -- so they can easily be distributed. The product will have an easy-to-use layout editor that gives FM users the same type of power and control over their data as users of advanced SQL reporting solutions such as Crystal Writer or other high-end Windows-only products. The cross-platform design makes it easy to integrate within a mixed system environment. Because Super Reports is an external application permitting direct access to all m…

Now that I've done a search and didn't find a match, I'm worried that I'm the only one... While developing a database, I'm having a strange problem with FMD 6.0v3, where I can create a script, and run it using the ScriptMaker and the keyboard shortcut, but if I create a button, no matter what I have tried, running the button in Browse mode keeps giving me an error message that the script is either broken or missing. I've tried this with different solutions, trashing preferences and repairing permissions, but I'm baffled... Anybody else seen this behavior?
