I'm using Filemaker pro 5.5 and windows 2000. I work using a network (a server and some client computers). I have a search where there is a detail layout and I need a button to print the current record. I've tried it with a script , but I haven't managed to get print to use current record by default. The script I have has a line with print setup and another one with print. The first one has restore setup options checked and Perform without dialog checked too. I've executed a print with the print option as print the current record, then I opened the script and when I closed it I clicked on replace print setup. Is there a way to change printers in a script. Ex: I want to create a button that will print the current view in PDF, And another button to print to the local printer. We have atleast 5-7 printers (not including Adobe) and it'a a pain to sift through these printers. can anyone help? ~Addam~

In the past, I've produced annual directories by exporting data from FileMaker and formatting the resulting text file through a Quark Plug-In called Xdata. What I want to do is print a 3-column document (roughly 600 pages in a 10-point font) with mirrored headers/footers (i.e., facing pages or alternating left and right headers and footers) directly from FileMaker Pro 5.0. Hi, I have a large field that is set for up to 8 pages in length. When the content of this field goes above about 20K characters (64K is the max, correct?) the printout is missing the first page and then cuts off after the middle of the 6th page. Is this a known bug of FM? I am using FM 5.0 and FM server 5.5 on Win NT. I have tried turing sliding on and off (I need the shrink the enclosed) since I don't want blank pages) but no help. I have a Windows 98 station with a HP LAserjet 1100 (latest drivers) when I try to print from Optigold I get a error that states Filemaker Pro caused an invalid pagefault in USER.EXE. I have tried 2 different brands of printers and they both error out ---- please can anyone help?

I have 20 stacked text fields 4 inches wide and tall enough for five lines of text. I selected all of them and turned on slide up for printing. With different amounts of text in say the first five text fields, everything slides up and prints one page as expected. If I fill in all 20 text fields then I would get multiple page upon printing. All is fine. But if I try to add any vertical bars or surrounding boxes, for design sake, the printing will produce multiple pages regardless of how many of the 20 text fields are filled. (note: these are not records viewed as a list but rather text fields stack on a page.) Help and thanks, Steve

Hi all! How do I print a proposal having multiple line-items and multiple attachments? The line-items and attachments are in separate child databases (P_Line_Items.fp5 and P_Attach.fp5, respectively). The attachments are all 1-page container fields and require page-breaks between each one. By printing from the P_Line_Items database I can get the proposal line-item table and body to slide/print nicely. How do I get the 1-page attachments (container fields) to print after the line-items? In the past, I have printed in separate print sessions... not nice for faxing or emailing!

I printed the contents of a script once. Now, no matter what I print from that same database it prints the same script contents. I am using OSX with a trial version of fm6. It does not matter if I print from a script or directly from preview mode of the report it always prints the same script content. I tried using system 9 with fm5 and it still prints the same thing. When I switch to a related file and print one of its reports it prints fine, so it seems to just be happening with the original file. If anyone knows how to fix this I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I have read the previous posts about this being a known bug in FileMaker. I also took a look at Bob Weaver's fix but his example is a bit different to my problem and I can't for the life of me figure out how to translate it to my situation. I have a subsummary part that is comprised of only text fields that is splitting (layout and preview pic attached) rather than a single record body part. Can anyone point me in the right direction? We have are running FMP 4.1 on Mac OS 9.2. Recently purchased an Epson 825 printer. It will only print the first page of any report. Everything looks fine in Preview and the data appears to be sent to the printer, but only the first page prints. If you set the prefs to print 2 pages on one sheet, both pages appear on the sheet, but if there are more than 2 pages in the report, it won't print more. Prints fine to HP LJ4100n. All other apps print multiple pages. Tried the trial version of FMP 6, but the same issue occurred. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance.

In the Classic version of FM6, there's a Labels folder containing an XML file which specifies the label formats that will appear when creating a new labels layout. I'm trying to specify UK label sizes in a copy of FM6 running on OS 10.2.5, and I can't find an equivalent to this file. European label sizes (specifically Avery 7160) do not appear in the list when I create a new labels layout. How do I go about using non-US label sizes?

Using Win98, FMP5.0, Microline 320. My Client has been using a Dos DB program. print to this printer using the resident printer font. This prints at high speed (fast). I looked for a solution, only thing I found was to use a Generic text only Print driver, this worked except for one very unexceptabl thing. It prints one label form feeds to next page, prints one label. etc. Tried using Custom page size at 1x3, no luck. :? Please help. Thanks

I am stuck in system 9.2.2: too many different users on my FMPserver-based medical practice require specific printed layouts that are called in scripts. OS X always seems to default back to the "any printer" page setup and default to a short portrait layout with too much white space. I have tried working with new drivers, (HP printers) but can't seem to get my database to function in OSX. I called FMP and Apple tech support, but they can't help. Any ideas?

Hi all... I posted this in scripting and did not get any replies...hopefully someone here can help.. We have a folder on my windows machine whick we call "pdf_files." We store pdf files there. We stored the path and pdf file name in a text field in fm.(ex: c:pdf_filestest.pdf) We then used the send message (print document) using the field value. This has been working fine for ages for us.. I observe the following at printing a layout in OSX/FM6 Two scripts have been made, which print both the layout. Script 1 contains the page setup option of the active printer. Script 2 has that to, but here at printing it has been indicated that he must save as PDF. Irrespective of these setup, the printer will print the last chosen setup. Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has the solution to an issue we have with printing labels. We have "shipping database" in which we create "delivery receipt" and print labels. Labels have fields from "delivery receipt". One of the fields is "Number of Boxes" which is printed on the label. I have this huge printing problem! The problem occurs on almost every layout if tried it on. The layouts print just fine on Mac OS 9, but on Win2k and XP, some content is simply left out. An example: The layout in preview mode The actual print (scanned) Has anybody else experienced this problem? And it's really serious, because I can't make it print no matter what! I want to suppress the print dialog box (it occurs several times in the script and only want to show it the first time) in certain scripts, but I want current record to be the default. I am running Mac OS X.2.4 and Filemaker Pro 6.3 and trying to print to a LaserWriter Select 360 over a 100mb network. I have a strange problem where when I try to print from a particular DB "Tracker" the print job seems to get prepared and forwarded to the Print Centre but the Print Centre doesnt recieve it. One of my weakness(es) has been layout parts. I'm trying to have the basic invoice total at the end of a printed invoice. My invoicing usually didn't span more than one page, but this one offen goes for 2 or 3. I've tried Footer, but it prints on every page - I just want it on the bottom of the last page. I've tried Title Footer, but it prints on just the first page. I've tried Trailing Grand Summary, but that doesn't print at the bottom always, it can print in the middle of the page depending on where it ends. This should be simple, how can I get it to print on just bottom of the last page?

I have a script that takes me to a letter/print/autoselect then to an envelope/print/manualfeed. I have it stop at each print dialog box for instructions. I have a project I am working on that I would really like to be able to print out in booklet form. In years past I used to use ClickBook now published by Blue Squirrel. But they apparently no longer make it for the Macintosh. Is anyone aware of a similar product? I want to be able to print out a booklet that is double-sided and folded. Ideally I would like to package it in a complete solution to distribute. I used to use this to print out catalogs, it made it so I could take it to get copied and all I had to do was staple the booklet. Thanks for the help.

Hi people, I've got a trivial problem to solve regarding the printing of labels. I've created a labels layout using the "new layout" labels wizard and the following relationship setup to print out labels of only one supplier: - gSupplier_ID = Supplier_ID You choose the supplier you want from a dropdown list that is using the gSupplier_ID field. This is a self relationship that allows me to print as many labels as I need regarding one supplier. Having trouble printing a sub-summary total in a report. I've got the sub-summary setup on a records per page, and can get the sub-summary total to print in the sub-summary(trailing) its a running subtotal. My problem is that in order to get it to show in preview or print, I have to touch the top edge of the field to the bottom of the body, when I do that, it also shows the subsummary in each record in the body! I only want to see it in the sub-summary section. Help!

Hi, I'm using a Container field for images. I'm using Sliding Options on it. The field slides correctly in Preview mode, but when it's empty it doesn't disappear as I expected (the text fields do it, when they are empty: see also my post "border of empty text fields"). Hi, I'm working with FM Pro 5.5. I've designed a Text field with a thin black border around it. In Preview mode I would like to see the border also when the field is empty, and this indeed happens if I don't use the Sliding Option on the field. On the other hand I need the field to slide up, so I have used the Sliding Options on it. But in this case the border disappears when the field is empty! hi I've made a solution that works on Macs but has a problem on XP's. The pagesetup routine is working on Macs but not on the windows boxes - it ignores it and weird enough won't even show up in the scriptlist. I've set the values of the setup on a pdf-printer and it should margin the page with 1cm on all sides. However, on XP it will print off-center since that script is completely ignored... I'm putting together the registration database for a convention run by an all volunteer non profit organization and I'm having a bit of a problem. I'm using a pop up value list to choose the type of membership for the attendee(Full weekend, Saturday only, etc.) and I'm using three other radio button value list to add on special events to the membership. I have a report that I need translated. The user sees everything in english and make their selection by checking several check boxes. If they want the report to be in spanish I want them to click on a checkbox and the report will print in Spanish. Can someone help me to find how can I make totals per page in preview mode please? I want for example in each page of a report in preview mode to have a total for an amount of all the records who fit in a page. If all records fit for example in 4 pages I want the total for each page. Is it difficult in filemaker? Because I can not found a page break for this like other databases products.

Is is possible to print the entire contents of a scrolled text field when there is more text than is visible? (I know I can cut and paste the text into a word processor doc and print it that way).

I prepare a Sales report that categorizes each sale into a heirarchy of about 5 levels; eg. sales by city, then state, then country. I'd like to NOT display sub-summaries for any level that contains only one record. When one product goes to one location, say ice to an eskimo, I now have to look at the same data being summarized all the way up the heirarchy; ice to eskimoes, to Alaska, to Alaska and Hawaii, and you get the picture. Is there a way to hide sub-summaries when there is only one entry?

I know that one can make an object shrink to remove whitespace by using the sliding / printing options. However, is there a way to make the field GROW dynamically? It seems right now the only solution is to make the text field *huge*, then slide up. This means that I have to guess ahead of time as to what the biggest the field would ever be! What happens if for one of the records the data in the field is incredibly long? I don't want to lose anything to truncating. hopefully this was a stupid question with an easy answer Cheers, Paul

I have a layout with a Header, Body and Footer. In the Footer, I have the symbol "##". When I view in Preview, or print the layout, I get the number "1" at the bottom of all pages. This problem is consistant on version 5 (OS 9) and version 5.5 (OS X). Am I missing something blatantly obvious? Thanks.

Hi everyone! I have a major problem. I thought it was because I had carriage returns in my data but that is not the case. When I preview and print various reports, certain fields (at random) will print 3/4 of a line too low or will not display at all??? Other fields on the same line will print fine. This happens in all my dBs. It is not a universal problem because on some systems (with certain printers) it prints fine. That's why I know it's not in the data. I need to resolve this, as almost every report messes up I have tried changing the font from Verdana 10 to Ariel 9; I have changed printer drivers, and I have ran the 6.04 Updater. So I have designed an inventory control system for our wharehouse and retail use. We are implimenting bar codes in our system, so I need to print out bar coded labels whenever product is received. Simply put, we need to be able to print the number of labels to match the quantity of merchandise received. So if we have received 4 T-Shirts, 4 labels need to print out. In the Inventory DB, there is only one record for that T-Shirt, but we need that record to print 4 times. Is there any way to print a variable about of copies based on a field value. I have a client that has to print long label jobs on a dot matrix printer. When we moved from FMP II to 5.5 and a new MacOS machine, we had to replace the old trusty imagewriter with a new Epson dot matrix printer with an ethernet card installed. The thing prints like a champ except when running those labels. It will print the first 100 or so pages of labels, and then locks up. You have to reboot the machine (running 9.2.2) and recover the database. The printer can print hundreds of pages in applications other than FMP. Epson says it's not their problem. I have created a db for a client that is very simple. The db contains a one page layout with multiple records. The problem is that the db seems to print fine on my Epson C60 in my studio running on a Macintosh G4/466 OS 10.2.3 FM 6.0, On my clients machine a iMac G4 OS 10.1.5 FM 5.5, the db prints blanks to a HP 4000 and HP 5000 laser printers. This person may have many records relating to other things. I have a second layout, which is the 'back page' of the rest. Depending on how many records a person has, they might have 1, or they might have 6 pages in the first layout. I've stuck my neck out and offered to help our company adapt a FM solution to use for our accounting package. The old system used carbonless forms and dot matrix printers. I created some layouts within the solution that match our forms but cannot get them to line up. Moving fields on the layouts doesn't move where they print anywhere close to proportionally and the printers act as if every character is a graphic (i.e. takes forever to print) even though I made sure all of the formatting is in courrier. When printing reports, I need to have at MOST one record displayed per page (one record could take up 2 and 1/3 pages, or just half a page). Right now some of the records are shorter than others (i'm using a portal that slides up if there aren't as many lines in it), resulting in two being on one page when I switch to preview mode. I'm having trouble with "reduce size of enclosing part" in the header of a receipt layout. Presently I am using only merge fields (all in one text box). Some of these merge fields are blank for some invoices, so the rest move up, but the part doesn't get any smaller, so I end up with a gap before my line items begin. I have a graphic that is a signature that I like to put in a letter as a merge field so that when the letter is printed the signature graphic is always where it should be in the format of the letter. Is this possible? I have a global field that is a container with the graphic pasted into it. While the graphic shows correctly as a regular field it doesn't as a merge field.

Here's my answer to selecting a printer tray on a Mac. It uses AppleScript. Maybe there's a more elegant solution, but I coudn't find one in a hurry. For the past several days, I've been trying to get a Mac running 5.5 to select a particular printer tray for printing labels. I looked into modifying a PPD to make it only use a particular tray, but I was still stuck as far as making it work relatively seamlessly for the user. I have an application where I need to print one label at a time when needed on a Seiko Smart Label Printer 200. The label is 4" x 2-1/8". I can get it to print the label fine but it also insists on printing a second blank label. I know this is because I cannot (or I think I cannot) adjust the layout to be 4" x 2-1/8". I had to format it to be 4" x 2-1/8" in an 8 1/2" x 11 (Portrait) page layout. So it's printing the second half of the 8 1/2" as a blank. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, I'm really lost here. I'm now thinking I've screwed up somewhere but I'm also kinda stuck with this problem... I have a main database which clients use to enter projects in (construction company). The only data this one contains is CreationDate, IDnumber and a few lookup fields. All other data like contractors, materials, time etc., are in line items (related) and shown in portals. Adding a new item to either of those databases sets a field with the current (main DB's) IDnumber so it will show up in the relative portal. Thats all working well, no problems there.... but if I want to print a temp report showing subs on all entered data, it does not work. …

Hi everyone! I'm just finishing a report for Management (they're breathing down my neck)! The report has a leading Sub-Summary, then body, then training Sub-Summary. *At random*, it only prints the top half of certain rows. This can even be in the middle of the page. Sometimes it's a row in the leading Sub-Summary, other times the body and other times, the training Sub-Summary. I can't find any spaces or carriage returns. I have used this printer before for reports, although usually simple ones. It is an HP 2100 LaserJet. All three appear when I want to print bibliographical records with filemaker. - Sliding objects when using merge fields. The problem is that when different merge-fields are defined in a layout below each other, they do not shrink totally when empty. For example if the first 2 merge fields in a layout are empty and the 3rd is not empty the 2 empty merge-fields leave a 2 line space. i'm printing from a layout that is basically just: field1 label [field1 text area, about 5 lines long] field2 label [field2 text area, about 5 lines long] when the data in field1 takes less then the space allocated to it, i'd like the other elements on the page to move up. will fmp do this for me? the workaround i came up with was to make a calculation do all of the formatting, but that doesn't seem very elegant. suggestions?

Greetings: I'm building a XC Ski Race database for a local club. Need to have results reported out for each type of race, then by gender, then by time. I have that all built, but can't seem to get the script for sub-summary to have "record" numbers start over for each type of report. I've been using the "@@" in the layout mode, but it doesn't start over for each grouping in the sub-summary part. Calling Bob Weaver.. I think I need a little help getting our OS 9 macs to use a specific tray during printing in a filemaker script. I read the previous thread on how to do this but I cannot get it to work with our new HP 4100tn printer. Basically, I want to print letters on our letterhead from tray 3 (lower tray) and envelopes from tray 1(manual input slot) and then reset the printer to use tray 2 (middle tray) for non filemaker printing. The question at hand for me is this: I'm creating a report for an invoice, within the invoice-line-items table, as recommended (rather than a portal from invoices). I need lines to extend down the page dividing the four columns of information in the body of the report (qty, descr, unit-cost, total). However, if my body is only 3 lines, the lines I've drawn in the body section of the report only extend 3 lines down, leaving a very unattractive blank area between the last line and the footer of the report. When I export a record from my database in merge format, I want to include the details field of the last entry in my "log" database. I have a 1 - M relationship between the two, and when I specify the related field to export it gives me that field for all the related records. Is there anyway I can get just the latest log entry. My relationshop is reverse sorted by creation date so that the latest entry is at the top. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I am switching from OS 9.2.2 to OS 10.2.2. I have a multifile dbase for about 10 computers on FMP server 5.5. Every printing script seems to default to the "any printer" page attribute setting and I get screwed up extra page print outputs. If I choose the specific printer from file>page setup>format for... it prints like it used to. I need help. I have tried using new Page Setup [restore, no dialog] scripts that chose the platform, but it still doesn't do it.

Hi, I have a client who uses a Quark Xtension to help him port data from their FMP system into Quark. The problem is that when they 'style' text in FMP, the 'styles' do not port to Quark. My question is twofold: a) Does anyone know of an Xtension or plugin that allows you to style text in FMP, and then keeps those styles when porting to Quark? I'm trying to figure out how to configure a layout so that I can print a single record that may span multiple pages. One field has a vertical scroll bar in it and often the text in the field is deeper than a single page. I've toyed with creating a new layout that displays the desired content using the merge field command, and that looks promising, but I'm stumbling a little. I really just want to enable the user to print the selected record only and have the output span as many pages as it takes. I have to print part of a database to include as an appendix to a report. Is there a way to get the page numbers to be consecutive to the page numbers from the report? Since each record is much smaller than a page (more like a list), I can't just create a serial number field and stick it at the bottom of the page. Hey all, My dad received his TiBook last week and installed FM Pro 6.03 on it. It is running OS X 10.2.2. When he tries to print from a new document, it works. When he tries to print a 'converted' document (from FM5), it doesn't. The first time it gives some error, I think 9507, and then just stops. It also does that when trying to 'save as PDF' from the print dialog box. If he then tries to print again, FMP won't show the print dialog, but quits with the 'this program unexpectedly quit' warning. He has to reboot or log into the machine again to be able to see the printing dialog box again. Did anyone notice similar behaviour? The printer he uses is an HP 4…

The user must put all the record, then check what he wants to be published in a list, and then only the selected records must be written in a particular layout (no ptoblem on this). Hi, I have a labels layout in FMP 6.0 the problem is that if there are any fields that are blanks in a record then on the label it will show as a blank line. Is there any way of moving the next line up if there is a blank field. Thanks for any advice Chris.

In OS X (10.1 or 10.2 doesnt matter) in filemaker 5.5 or 6.0, when I print a range starting after page 1 (example 2-20) the printing prints either blanks or not at all. The Which database doesnt matter, the layout doesnt matter, the computer and printer doesnt matter (I admin 20 computers and 3 printers and 3 databases with always those results). This problem does not happen in the OS 8.6-9.0 with filemaker 5.5. If the range starts with page 1, (example 1-20). I have had no luck on Filemakers knowledge base finding any answers.

I have several layouts from which I print, and have set buttons with scripts which store the print set-up and print options. So on some layouts I am printing the records being browsed in portrait orientation and on others it's just the curent record being printed in landscape view. All this in Windows. OK. But what happens when my files are used by colleagues elsewhere and I have no idea what printer they are using? Aren't the options used specific to the printer selected at the time the options are set? In this case, how do I set paper size, orientation, number of records to be printed etc. for an "unknown" printer?

I'm building a solution for a client in kiosk mode. I'm going to be giving them an initial version and then update it based on suggestions. I'd like to move the data from one version to the next so that they don't lose it. Is the best way just to create an export and import script and export before i replace with the new version and import? It's 4 files worth of info.
