I would like to create a calculated field that can give me the date for day 10 searching through the related records. Example: Jon Doe has worked for 20 days. There are several records that have a start date and a stope date. Let's say that record one has a start date of 1/1/02 and a stop date of 1/5/02. This gives me 5 days worked. The next record has a start date of 3/1/02 and a stop date of 3/15/02 giving me 15 days worked for a grand total of 20 days worked. The calculated field would need to return a date of 3/5/02; day number 10 of the 20 days worked. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's an interesting problem. I have a calendar I made from scratch in Filemaker 5.5 . The calendar has 37 spaces named day1 to day37 (in case the 1st on a month with 31 days lands on a Saturday). All of the days adjust fine in the calendar except March 1st 2004 (a leap year) and 2009 which are supposed to appear in the box after the 28th. March 1st 2004 lands on a Monday (because of the leap year) and March 1st 2009 lands on a Sunday. The formula is for the day of March 1st. I also in the formula have the variable day1a and dayofweek1. day1a is used to convert the date in the form mm/dd/yyyy (variable day1) to a single day by the formula day1=1 and put the d…

Is there a way to close related files only if they're hidden? I've got seven database files that are related in various ways. If I close one of the main files, say file A, I want it to close the rest of the files so they're not left hanging open in the background. However, if I also have one of the other main files, say file B, open and _not_ hidden, I'd like that to stay open when I close file A and close any of the other 5 files that are not hidden.

I have a database that tracks work during the day. When a job is started, the time is inputted into the time field, each job is allocated x amount of time. My problem is, that becuase the Database is in real time, if I start a job at 4 o clock and leave at 5, the time through the night would be recorded. It's unreliable to make people click a pause or stop button??

Hey guys! I had a script step that I want to set a field to the date a year from now. I made it look like this: If [ PatternCount("Certain Field", "12 Month Contact")] Set Field [status(CurrentDate) + 360] Else Set Field ["Certain Field", "select"] It won't work. The date that shows up is only one month from now, not 1 year. I have similar steps for finding dates that are 2,3,4,5 and 6 months from now, and they all work fine. Hi. We've created a database containing customer contacts and notes about those contacts such as when last contacted and when to next contact. Anyone know of where I can find some plug-in which alerts the user on a specified date to call their customer back? To all that help, I have a field labelled "Qty" which serves two purposes based on the selection in a field called "Code" if the field "Code" is Time then the total will be "Qty" multiplied by the "Labourrate" field to give me a total. If I select Material the total wil be "Qty" multipled by "ItemValue". My problem is this I need to show a summary of Hours but because the Qty field is used for Time and Material I need to some how only total those in the "Code" Time. Any ideas folks??

Two related files, call 'em Master & Related. For aesthetic reasons, I'm hiding and locking the status bar. Problem is that when viewing the portal in the Master file, the Related file opens hidden -- without running the preset "Open" script. As a result, the user can click on the Windows menu and open the Related file ... and see the status bar. I can employ a "Close" script on the Related file that hides & locks the status bar, but it unlocks when it reopens as a hidden file. Any way to ensure that it stays locked away?

Here's what i need; Simply Stated: A Shopping Cart, Internal to Filemaker (no web is necessary) for mulitple customers with items being customer specific Here's what i envision for the customer. Comes in enters Customer Name and a Password. This takes them to a list type view of all of thier items available for order. I am perplexed! I have a video database for which I'm trying to concoct an invoice. And for the most part it works. I have a Catalogue DB and reservations are kept in a Reservations DB (also related to a NameAddress DB, etc). My problem lies in the Reservation DB. I have the following fields: Fees (number), Late Fee (Calc), Misc. Fee (Number). Then I have an Item Total (Fees + Late Fee + Misc. Fee). Another field is Amount Paid (Number). ok we have a database the was created 2 years ago. it houses our agent information. the information is personal and for office use. this database has multiple duplicate records. most of the information is the same... name, address, phone. but the agent number is different. for example: there may be 5 records with "BOB'S" info, but each record has a different agent number. what i need to do is create 1 record that will have all the agent numbers. i would like to export the info and then put it into the new data base that has fields for each agent number. this is a hard one for me.

I have a schedule with 24 events to it. These events have a due date. Job initiated:<date_1> Files to client:<date_2> Final due:<date_3>...etc. What I would like to do is have the entered dates show up in a calendar layout of Daily Tasks, Weekly Tasks, Yearly Tasks. I'm using FM 3.0 on a 400 MHZ TiBook and designing a small business database. Part of the database involves tracking hours worked, bill and pay rates for employees and customers. From this it's a cinch to create invoices, but is there an easy way for FM to create payroll or is it better to output the data to another program, such as QuickBooks or MYOB? FWIW, Completing payroll requires tax tables, and knowing the required data for the employees (# of exemptions, hours worked, rate of pay, etc). This seems like it would be a classic filemaker problem: I have version 5.5. I have a complex contacts database used by 7 people. They often need to perform complex finds, then mark the records, and then assign a category to this new group. The category is assigned by entering a category number in a multi-key field. It is scripted to enter this number for all records in the found set at once. Hi ! I have this problem I'm working with Windows 2000 professional and Filemaker 5 / 5.5, I'm using the Azium Variables plugin (2.0.3). I enter to the plugin section in application preferences to register the plugin but when I return to check if it was registered or close the application and open it again the plugin is not registered. This only happens if I logged in as any user, if I login as administrator works fine, the pluggin keeps registered. Some body come across this problem? Ernesto

I read that other stuff about the chiropractor (or whatever) and have a similar situation. I'm automating a silk-screening shop, where they've got 8 presses. We've got a db for production orders which holds two items relative to the printing process - number of items to be printed and the type of item (so, say, 1200 t-shirts or 500 pillowcases). I've got another db for the presses themselves, the key info for which is the machine's capacity. What I now need to do is make a system where the manager of the shop can schedule his jobs. While using FileMaker 4, the following age calculation worked: Year(Meeting Date) - Year(Date of Birth) - If(Meeting Date < Date(Month(Date of Birth), Day(Date of Birth), Year(Meeting Date)), 1, 0). In FileMaker 5.5 the same calculation is only calculating by the year, so if I use a Meeting Date of 11/7/2001, and the Date of Birth is AFTER the Meeting Date, such as 12/14/1986, the age is coming up as 15 instead of 14. Hey all, I am interested in archiving a few databases that grow into infinity as time goes on, databases like "orders" for example. The issue I'm having is currently we just make a copy of the database, rename it with the date, and stick it in an "archive" folder. This works, kind of, but then we have to know which archive records are in if we want to go back and check them, and trying to look for trends and such over the years is obviously hampered. I have two reports which can include data on a single job or multiple jobs. Currently the Find ans Report request are perfomed in the time and material DB. The final calculation requires the system to divide the final total by a number value defined in the Estimate database. "TotalSKU" to give a "ProfitBySKU" value It works fine on a single job report but when I try to use this against multiple jobs it is incorrect. How can I get the total os "TotalSKU" from the estimate DB and transfer it to the T&M database so I can use it in the "ProfitBySKU" field?

My system imports from an Oracle Database via ODBC every 1.5 hours to get new pending orders. When it imports it erases the entire pending database and imports new entries. Just before it imports I would like to send a message to the users stating that in 1 min the database will be imported then another warning in 10 secs. I don't need it to go to every user just particular ones. Is there a way to send an individual a message popup like when you are needing them to close out for some field editing? For arguments sake, lets say I was a chiropractor, and I needed a system in which I could schedule my clients for different times. Obviously, there would have to be layouts/reports to provide an overview of what time slots are available, what's taken, and so on. I want to create user help screens that can be accessed by just clicking on a button in the layout. That's the easy part. Each layout will contain a unique Help button. The Help screen will contain a combination of text and graphics so I will be using Container Fields. The Help information will be created in Word or a AppleWorks and will be a graphic. I have an approach in mind but I am looking for any suggestions before I go to all of the work that my solution will require. Hey hey If I'm running a database on a server which generates an invoice number as a serial number, how can I guarantee that another computer running the same database is not generating the same invoice number as me? Also, what is the best way of running a database on a server without having to load the entire database on each computer which would slow down the system? I am creating an order entry piece for a client and they requested that all of the options for each item be displayed in a checkbox list so that the order takers can see all the options and check the ones that the client requests. I know how to display the list but I do not know how to use the selected options to create a new subtotal (e.g. If I select an item and two options, I need the price of the item to increase based on the price of each option. I'm doing a hotel database with the types of rooms in one file and a transaction file and other file that aren't important. i have in the transaction file five check boxes with extras like TV, VCR, etc. in the type file i have these as well. i want it so when the user selects the room type in the transaction file it will come up with the right ticks in the check boxs as well as being able to add other extras to the room during the customers day without effecting the types file. HELP

Tricky. . . I have 2 files. File A -> File B based on KeyField; Allow Creation of related records. In FileA i have a layout which contains a Portal for File B. Within this portal is FieldB [Number field]. I need to be able to restrict the user to only entering a number once. After FieldB is exited, it must "lock" itself, so that it cannot be re-edited without the Admin's intervention. I have seen this done in a single file solution, but i lost my hard drive about 2 weeks ago and know not where to look to get any ideas from. . . any workarounds for a relationship solution? Forgive my ignorance, but I need just a little bit of remedial help using the Set Field function. Vaughan once told me to use it, but the calculation aspect threw me off. Which functions in Specify Calculation do I use so that my end result in the script is [select, "Letters2", "1st FollowUp"]? Vaughan told me to look up SetField in the FM help, but it seemed of little help. So what I guess Im asking is how should the calculation be to make it look like [select, "Letters2", "1st FollowUp"]? This is a difficult one to answer without having the exact setup. Firstly, I don’t buy what this so-called “expert” is telling you. I tend to do all my programming on a PC, but have to develop for clients running Macs, so I have a small network here running two really ancient power Macs. I have a set of records that contains a field for each user to order a standard item. I also have a relationship that ties each user to a person. What I am trying to do is a calculation that looks into that users record and check to see if the standard item is a yes or no. Here's what I tried. If(user 1="yes", 1, 0) But what I need is (if user 1 "record" {field} = yes then 1 else 0). What I ultimately want to do is get all users orders (either yes or no) then total them. I will give much background to hopefully help in understanding my problem. I have two db's ESTIMATES and PRICEDATA. PriceData contains many types of steel rule (products) and prices per in. We allow 3 tiers per rule type based on linear inches used. one record contains five fields, PerInch, PerInch Over, PerInchOver2, Overlimit, Overlimit2. RuleType1 1.20 per in 1.15 per in over 80 in. 1.10 per in over 150 in. In the Estimates db the fields are looked up based on RuleType chosen. I have never used a radio button before and would like some clarification of its potential use in a calculation that I am thinking of using. What I would like to do is this: have a radio button that if clicked on would be the true part of a calculation, therefore not adding the data from a field to another one for a total. Specifically it relates to remitting taxes in a vendor/seller situation. FM newbie needs help ;-) I need to generate and print out a deposit report which lists contribution info (contributor name and contribution amount). Currently, the layout is set up to list this info and a summary field reports the total deposit amount. When the records spill over to a new page, the same total contribution amount is reported on each page, rather than page totals. Now, I need to limit the number of records to 25 per page and then have each page totaled individually. I imagine I'll need to use a calculation to achieve this but have no clue where to begin...any help will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Our custom picture department uses different colors for the slide number depending on location of slides. How I was going to do it was create a field called "itemcolor" and give it a value of 1 to 4, we use 4 colors. Then I was going to create three more fields called "Slide_green, Slide_blue, Slide_Red" (Slide_num is there already they change the color by hand)and these would be set to that color in the layout. They would be calculations (ie Slide_Green would be (IF itemcolor = 1,slide_num,"") ect.. And place them on top of each other. This is a lot of work because they show up in many layouts. Hi All, What I'm trying to accomplish is a script, that when run will clear certain fields in that record. I have cost, quantity and total fields that I want to be able to have the user clear, without deleting the contens of each field individually. Does anyone know how to set a tab within a calculation field? I am exporting data for import into Quark Express using xpress tags. I have set my tag for a tab but I need to physically set the tab. I have set up a calculation field for my tag information which contains a zip code and phone number that I want separated by a tab with fill dot leaders. Hope this is not too confusing. I have a quotation system with a script that Duplicates related items in a Line_Items db by first exporting the original items out, then performs a replace with new Quote Number, and then re-imports the original items back in. My scripts work ok running it locally, but when I Serve the databases via FMServer it fails to work. Any ideas folks?

Don't use repeating fields. A related database can contain all of the info. Just include a field that identifies the type of communication such as fax, home phone, email, etc. You will have a lot more options for searching, sorting, and reporting than you ever would with repeating fields. Repeating fields are relics of the old pre-FM3 flat file days, and have very limited utility in FileMaker any more.

Ok, let's try this again. I have a text field that is generated by grabbing website URL strings from a referenced file. This ensures that the contents of this field are entirely unknown beforehand. What I want to do is create a Top 10 (or 20 or 30 etc.) list of the results from that field. Let's see here... I'm given a log from a proxy server and have extracted URLs from it. What my employer expects is to create a list of the top 10, 20, etc. URLs in the database. The URLs are in their own text field and are entered automatically from another file. They are NOT known beforehand, since this covers ANY site visited. What I would want to do would be to show which webpage was visited the most, second most, etc. Something like: 1. www.yahoo.com 2. news.yahoo.com/example/bs.html 3. www.lycos.ca/search/filemakerpro/ ... etc.

This program would take a selected group of prospect clients and mail them intro marketing letters followed by phone calls, based on a certain strategy. I have a schedule database. I have date, start time and end time fields . When I create new records I need to be able to find repetitions and overlapping records for I can't allow anyone to have more than one activity happening at the same time the same day. I'm currently writing a new part of our databases for remote users (laptops) which on occasion must connect into our system and syncronise with the master database. Ok so I have got to rename my "remote" user databases, to something else (to stop filemaker opening the wrong files), however all the relationships and scripts (of which there are lots) obviously refer to the old filenames, which I don't want. Filemaker sorts numbers so that 10 comes before 9 etc: ID: Record: 10 Record C 8 Record A 9 Record B I quess this isn't a big problem but if I only have <20 records it bothers me in list view those rare times when I sort something by their IDs. Is there a way to easily make FM sort numbers properly? I know that I could manually add a zero before the nine, but I would rather hear a different tip.

Hi to anyone, and I hope this question won't fry up your brain... I just want to do a simple calculation... We keep a record of the items we send, and very often, it's all sent in one shot... But we realized not so long ago that if the package was, let's say, splitted in two and sent at two different times, FM will not add 'QtyAlreadySent' and 'QtySent'. The script used is quite light. It starts from 'Products.fp5', then goes to 'LineItems.fp5' and comes back to 'Products.fp5', counting everything... except that. But...!
