The following script works in FMP 6 but not 7...its something simple but I just cant make it work. what am I missing? There are two files. SR_Lead and SR_Contract the join is on Lead Number in both files. The script checks to see if I have aan existing contract record related to the lead record. If not it lets me build a new contract record if so it takes me to the existing contract record. In Version 7 it is not doing the check for the existing SR_Contract record. The problem is likely in the If [Get (Last error)=101 ] statement but I can't figure out what is haywire

I have created a FMPRO DB to run my business. I am self taught and have no formal training. Many of the scripts and approaches used to resolve my problems are not designed in a particularly savy manner. Additionally, I have nobody to consult with locally about issues that arise or may arise. I had one programming class in college - probably got a "C". My database (FMPRO 6.0) currently has about 210,000 records and and 4,000 fields. The Database is almost entirely flat as I only recently figured out how to do relational DBs. There are many calcuation fields and quite a few scripts. The database works really well for me, but it is clearly not well designed. REP…

I've got an old datbase that has one field that has the customer number and name in one field. The new database I want them to have thier each field. One for their Number and one for their name. How should I go about doing this. I thought I should import the data twice. Have every thing in both and then create a script just to delete what I don't need. The field looks like this now. 123 company_xyz 15 company_dfy 2345 ccompany_xyt

I have read some of the posts stating that copy/paste is not the way to go, however, can anyone explain why the following script has worked every week for the last 5 years in v5 and now won't work in v7? The following script copies info from one portal and pastes it into another: Go to Portal Row[select;First] Loop Copy [select;Field to copy from] Paste [select;Field to paste to] (THE ABOVE COPY PASTE IS PERFORMED TWO MORE TIMES (FOR TWO OTHER FIELDS) Go to Portal Row[select;Next;Exit after last] End Loop Go to Portal Row [select;Field to go to] As noted, this script used to work without problems everytime. Howdy y'all... I'm currently 1/2way through our upgrade process here- moving from FM6Pro on OSX (shared DB file) to FM7Server Adv on PC. All of the client machines (6 of them) operate via an alias to a cloned version of the shared file with a relationship set to the 'mother' machine. Now. I've gone and installed FM7 on my own terminal and tested- and the base data comes over just fine--- *we have a very simple flat db file.* But here's my question- and the one that has the secretaries freakin' out: If I convert their current DB files- and fix the relationships- I still have to go back and reassign all the indiviual fields in their layouts. I haven't had any…

Hello, all. I'm trying to convert two databases from the ancient Nashoba Systems Filemaker 4 to Filemaker Pro 7. If I've read previous posts correctly, I need to convert first to Filemaker Pro 2.1, then to any version between 3.0 and 6.0, and finally to 7. Is that correct? The person before me in this job downloaded the trial version of 2.1 from the Apple ftp site, but that trial version would only convert the first 50 records of the database. We have over 6000 records in each of the databases. Any help you can offer this clueless newbie would be greatly appreciated. Peace, friends, Pat Fina

It comprises of 18 files, umpteen relationships and runs in kiosk mode from FM server to approx 6 users throughout our business. It handles everything from initial enquiry & calculating an estimate, conversion to order, job tracking throughout the works through to final invoice, management reports and filing. All this along with a professional looking GUI means that I take great pleasure in seeing people using it every day and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me along the way. 13. Hi, please pardon this long post, but I have nowhere else to ask for help. I am a N-O-V-I-C-E user of FM Pro. Have used FM pro4.0 sparingly before given the unenviable task of "upgrading to FM Pro 7.0 with Web Publishing capabilities". So I read whatever info I can get on conversion and set about doing it. Now, the conversion's completed. Only these few problems got me stuck; 1) I am getting page format problems after conversion. The FM Pro 4.0 documents were configured to print to fit A4 size very nicely. After conversion, however, the fonts became shrunken and the page format became distorted. Some lines on the page were missing. 2) Some of our …

  15. In migrating, I've converted 5 related files from 5.5 to 7 and am now rebuilding by creating a new interface file with each original file as a table, entering the fields exactly as original (can't copy fields!) and then copy/pasting the layouts one by one (zero records, no relationships). This has worked fine in 3 tables, all fields in layouts are recognized in new table (to my delight!) except for now the 4th has <table missing> on each of the fields. I have done nothing different than the others, the fields are identical to the original, and I can't figure out why these fields have not been recognized in the copied layouts. Any ideas? thanks

  16. Hi, I have a strange problem. I started building a semi-complex database system in FM6, but half way through the project my client decided they would rather use FM7. So I converted the FM6 files to FM7 and spent a while tweaking the complex scripts and whatnot because the FM7 converter broke a number of things that were previously working. Then I developed these converted files further. For any new files (tables) I needed, I just started them clean in FM7. So now I have a mix of former FM6 files that have been converted and further developed - plus - several pure FM7 tables that I built within one FM7 file. So here's the problem: When these files are ser…

  17. Can anyone recommend a migration consultant? I have several filemaker solutions that were developed using FM5.5 and used for the past 5 years in a client/server config (FM5.5 connecting to FMServer 5.5 Host). New Xserver IWP works great with IE & Safari clients for new database applications developed in FM7.0 but old applications arn't behaving well in new environment.

Guys, I've finally managed to convert about 70% of my solution into the FP7 format. I've cleaned up all the relationships and duplicate file references the old FileMaker had remembered. Filemaker 7 seems to take and age when opening a file locally, and i'm guessing (rather hoping) it might be something to do with the file references. At present I have my references setup as : fmnet:/*/CONTACTS file:CONTACTS Is this the most logical way ot set them up (fmnet: first and file: second). I sell my solution to both multi-user as well as single user customers and the speed for single user is frustrating me. On the other side though, the network perform…

  20. Hi, I am new to FM but I was pulled on that and have no choice...Our user has FM 4.1 application ( 8 files ) developed 8 years ago on MAC. The person who did that left the company and soon something broke - fields became un-editable. I am trying to fix it and open a local copy on my windows machine. The problem is- all files have fp4 extention and I can't open them - so I did some research and re-named them to fp3. I can open them now, but the problem is that there is a lot of scripting referring to other files with fp4 extension, so application will not work...Does anybody know what can be done ?

I have taken a FM5 database and converted it into a FM7 database. I have rebuilt the solution (many many months in the works) and now want to take the old information and import it into the new solution. I can not import into calculation fields and am having trouble with the old database in regards to making the data workable, meaning that some of the old fields are calculations themselves. I would prefer to have all info go straight over but with the calculation fields in the new dbase that doesn't seem possible. I'm dealing with over 15,000 records, so hand-fixing the erroneous records is a major task in itself. Sorry if this is confusing...any startin…

  22. I have a multi-file system running on FMP Server 5.5 with FMP 6 clients. I want to upgrade these files to 7, and have some basic questions. I've seen various options for some of them, but no pros versus cons answers. Here are my questions: 1.) To develop a system in 7, do I need developer? If so, what are the benefits? I do not need to bind the solution, which I know was something the earlier versions of FMP did. Also, if a system will be served off of 7 Server, does that make a difference to development in client versus developer? 2.) To use FMRobot, do I have to own developer or server? 3.) If $$ is an issue, and the files need to be converted manually in…

  25. one of my more complex clients has a web application that is currently living on a standalone FM6/Lasso/OSX foundation and he is in the process of doing a complete upgrade. their FM6 system runs every facet of the company and they need to take it in steps. first up is the web app, and i want to see if anyone has done a reliable solution to import/export to and from 6 and 7. the direction i see as best case is an ODBC solution but i/ve never been able to figure out INSERT statements so i don't know if that will work. the next idea is an XML import/export. what's a good direction to start taking this?

Hi everybody! Besides working on a new solution I never had a closer look on the filesize of the FM7 files...but as a matter of fact: I converted a multi-file solution (21 FM5.5 files) into FMP7. The filesize originally was 71,3 MB and turned into 83.8 MB. Not too bad...but as I finally imported most of the data (not even from all files) into my FMP7 solution this one (consisting of only 8 files) has some 136 MB. The only main difference is that the new solution is much more sophisticated, but the data itself is the same. There are no pics or other memory consuming stuff included. Now this makes me a little worried...comments appreciated!

I've had many problems since I upgraded from 6 to 7. Fields don't sort as requested, various parts of layouts don't print, portals show records in Browse mode, but not in Preview mode or when printing. Has anyone else had any similar problems? I've checked my relationships and all are correct and same as they were in earlier versions of FileMaker. I also have tried re-designing layouts, but same errors occur. This is incredibly frustrating after ten years of loving FileMaker Pro and building up a database and now I can't print out many important reports! Any advice anyone???

This has got to be a stupid question, but I need to ask it anyway: I have a database I've given someone that is now in production. I, of course, continue to make changes to it while they keep entering data. What I need to know is the proper sequence of steps to correctly move my user from one version to another. The version of FM will be the same. There are a number of tables with data entered by the users (this is a concert ticket reservations system so it has: table of buyers (name, address, phone), price list, table of seats). But there are also tables with data that the user did not enter. These I created under the covers and contain much of the relatio…

  30. I'm on Mac OSX and currently run a fairly simple estimating/invoicing solution that involves 3 files: invoices, estimates and clients. I upgraded to FM7 hoping to migrate these files into a single solution with three tables but my research on this forum tells me that may not be possible. Plan B: the invoicing and estimating files are almost identical in look and functionality. Can I migrate the invoicing file then create another table which is a duplicate of that file? So far my research has turned up no way to do this. Thanks in advance for any insight- Michael

  32. In version 5.5 I made a multifile relational Database according to the FMP example files "Inventory", Items", and "Sales". Now in the "Inventory" file I do a find request in the unstored calculation field "Quantity on Hand" (Initial Inventory Level - Quantity Sold). I notice that the more records the "Inventory" database contains, the longer it takes to find the records that show the quantity on hand of my find request. In fact, it took too long, so in FMP 5.5 I abandoned the idea of using it. Now I just started studying the trial version of FMP 7, my question before I upgrade: As to the SPEED of find requests on unstored calculation fields, will this greatly improve…

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if there are any utilities out there that can help me upgrade my 5.5 database files (about 50, with about 50-100 text fileds in each) into version 7. All my files are very simple - just text fields, no relationships, hardly any scripts. However, I'd like an upgrade tool that can take each of my current files, and turn it into a single file in filemaker 7, with 50 different tables, with all my fields and data intact. Anyone know of such a tool?

On most of those, I was able to change a few things to correct the results. But there is one that I am having trouble with.
