Kevin MacHeffner Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 Hi all, I have looked at previous threads on this same issue but did not see much of a resolution to the issue. One of my database tables starts to return an error of "Database 'xxxxx.fp5' is not open" when being accessed through the Web Companion. These are the facts which make this rather peculiar: -The database table IS open, running on FM6 Unlimited -None of the other 20+ tables, which run concurrently, have this issue. -It seems to happen infrequently after the FM client has been running for long periods of time. -Closing the table and reopening it seems to resolve the issue. Could this have something to do with data corruption, or password access, or : Has anyone had this issue and found a resolution? Cheers, Kevin
Vaughan Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Make sure the db is configured to share through Web Companion, and it is opened with privileges that allow at least browse and export. Check the FM Inc web site and get the latest version of web Companion for your copy of FMP.
Steve T. Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Hmm.. Hi, kmacheff! Yeah, I would have guessed it was SHARING... but if it works for a while and then doesn't, that's odd. You say the after the CLIENT has been running... so this is a web browser? Maybe there's a session expiration or something. Open/close table (browser window or db window?) seems to fix it you say, but what about a refresh? Is your setup the typical SEARCH > RESULTS > DETAIL variety with separate pages for each? I don't know. I have not heard of a client-side problem before. Hope it works out!
Unable Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Are you using IWP? I recall reading a thread on the Internet Forums recently where the person was using IWP and a client was hitting a browser "back" button, causing that problem. Good luck.
Tamarin2087 Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Hi Kevin, I did have this problem and found a solution amongst the collective brain power here. In my case, clients printing the browser window caused the error you describe. Turns out that, for IWP, FMP Unlimited considers that an "Export" action and caused the error in response to the user executing an illegal action. I have also had a few small issues with the back button. But nothing I could narrow down. I would start with the priveledges you have set up under the Passwords. As mentioned above, make sure that all access levels have at least Browse and Export rights assigned to them.
Kevin MacHeffner Posted April 10, 2003 Author Posted April 10, 2003 Thanks everyone! Allowing "export" to the permissions did solve this error. Cheers, Kevin
Leb i Sol Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 ...........just some food for the brain................. if you ARE on IWP...export can be tricky....especially if you are basing your access rights on FileMaker Access Priviledges which IS what FM suggests to use with IWP. Check the rights on "Local Data Access Companion"- Plugin!!! IF you are using the same DB for both-local network acess and web....ask yourslef...do you really want to give Local users the right to export data to aaaa lets say Excel file where angry Ex-employee can walk away with your customers' list?hm....if the answer is YES please let me know your URL
cinolas Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Hi, I am having the same problem, I am using FMP 5.0v3 (with web comp v6) on Win XP. The database affected is always the same but it IS already opened with a password that allows browse and export... Users coming from the web need not entering a password, does this mean that I have to make sure that the <no password> also allows for export and browse ? I have tried to trigger this error message by printing AND by abusing the back button but I can't seem to make it happen on demand... Thanks for the help
cinolas Posted June 26, 2003 Posted June 26, 2003 UPDATE See the thread named "Double-Clicking disaster"
Newbies kandon Posted June 27, 2003 Newbies Posted June 27, 2003 I too am experiencing this problem. I have the database open on a Mac running OSX 10.2.6 and FM6.0.4 but when I try to access the db, i get the error message 'the file is not open' Does anyone know if opening the files hidden would have anything to do with it? When I look at the FM Web Companion default page I get this message: Select a database to view: No files opened and set to be shared by the Web Companion
Pedro Filipowsky Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I too am having the same problem - on a regular basis (daily). - using FMP Unlimited 6 on Windows XP, accessing files hosted by FMP Server on Windows 2000 Pro - 1 particular file will 'fall offline' (web browser says "database not available") while all others are OK - the one that falls offline will revert to limited access but will remain open on client FMP (e.g. access to ScriptMaker gets dimmed) - restarting the affected file fixes the problem I have looked at the Web Companion logs and have found the following messages at the time that the affected file dropped off line: (1) Error Log: "HTTP session disconnected." (2) Access Log: "63.156.128.29 - - [15/Sep/2003:05:25:24 -0700] "GET /consimp/FMPro?-db=CIshopper&-lay=Web+layout&-format=form8.htm&-view HTTP/1.1" 200 0" In the case of the Access Log message, what I have found in ALL cases is the appearance of the '200 0' string at the end of the message. DOES ANYONE know what these numbers mean in the Access Log? And, could this give us a clue as to what is causing the problem?
Garry Claridge Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 200 means all is OK 0 means that nothing was transferred. All the best. Garry
