  3. Hello, I've two little problems. I've a DB "BOXES", where I've 100 fields. Each record corresponds to a boxe (with 100 compartments). First, I would like to perform a search in any field in any record. The only way I found, was to set up a script with a SEARCH field Then I copy/paste it in each field and I performa a "find" for each field. It works fine but I'm not sure this way was a very elegant and fast one. More complicated (for me !), I would like to make a list for all the fields. In fact I would like a table list with the first column with the field content and a second one with the ID of the corresponding record (corresponding to a boxe ID). The idea is to ha…

Hi, I think this is gonna be a nasty one. Using filemaker 4.1, in a database I've two date fields, data_start and date_end. I use a website for our users to access this database to have a look in the planning of radiostation, I want them to be able to search on items running on a date they enter. I allready do it in FM itself, by running a simple script, but that's no solution to the web. Now I figured out I could create a textfield containing all dates from date_start 'till date_end. So, by searching on that textfield, FM comes up with all records 'running' on the requested date. The question is : how....... If anybody could help ?? Cheers, Andr

FileMaker made it easy, but you are making it too hard. Do the first find request, entering name AND date criteria. Don't use separate requests for name and date, as that results in a found set containing all records with the same name, and all records with the same date criteria. Such a search is a boolean OR search, which you don't want. The find step for the the incompletes is only missing one thing: click the OMIT box. As to your request for good reading material on this, permit me to use an old Air Force term: RTFM (Read the f*cking manual). It really spells out how to do finds in FileMaker very well. In my experience, finding and sorting are worth a full day cla…

Boy do I feel stupid -- I've worked with Filemaker a few months now, but cannot do this simple task. I've searched my FM bible and the Help Index to no avail. If I want to search for records by Date -- such as Date Last Modified -- and for example, just want to isolate the records for 2001 by performing a Find using "2001" -- I get a message, "Must be entered in x/y/zz format" and it cancels the Find. I've tried using a DateToText field to do a similar numerical search but it says "No Records Found." Does my date field need to be formatted in a special way for me to be able to search by Date?

I'm working on a solution in which it is convenient to use buttons to perform a variety of finds where the index for a field serves as a menu (i.e., as a list to choose from, not as part of the menu bar). I assume that you want to automate this. Otherwise you could just enter the date 3 days from now (ie March 21, 2000). You can use the following in a script: Enter Find Mode Set Field [YourDateField, Status(CurrentDate)+3)] Perform Find De-select the "restore find requests" in both the Enter Find Mode and Perform Find steps.

Create a self-join relationship in your projects file using the project number for the key field. Self-join is described in the manual. You will need either a serial number or DateCreated field to determine the latest record. Then create a calculated field called cLatest: cLatest = Calculation[Max (Projects::SerialNo) = SerialNo] where "Projects" is the name of the self-join relationship, and SerialNo is the unique serial number or date. The value of cLatest will be 1 for the latest record of each project, and 0 for all others.
