My second table "Table2" is the user input table. They select a-z from a dropdown based on the ID Field in Table1, then Input other Table 2 specific information. Here is what I'm trying to do. When I view Table1, and sift through the 26 records, of a-z. I want to see how many times each record is used in Table2. So I go to record "a" in Table1, and there is a field "Used_Count" that lists exactly how many records in Table 2 have used "a" from the dropdown Menu.…

In the Catalog Table, each item has a Manufacturer Packaging and a Purchase Unit as a standard. But the sale units may differ from the purchase units, and depending wether the product is bought from the Manufacturer or from a Wholesaler, they may be up to 3 possible Purchase/Selling unit systems entered in the line items, but the result entered should always reflect our price policy. Examples : 1) a pot of glue of 25 Kgs purchaseUnit Kgs saleUnit : pot (of 25 Kgs) 2 pots of glue (25 Kgs) purchased 2 x 25 x .5

I've been assigned to add a whole slew of form letters to a database. The letters require merge fields. Most of the form letters are consistant but some are going to change over time. The client will also have to write the occasional custom letter. I'm looking for a best practice suggestion for handling this. I've looked at having each letter be a separate layout but that means that any changes to the text will have to be done by editing the layout; something that I don't really want my users doing. I've explored eZxslt and am wondering if that is the right way to proceed. Regards, Dave

  7. I work for a school system and our calendar for this school year is July 1st, 2004 - June 30th, 2005. The calendar itself is nothing more than a string of 366 characters. My mission, if I decide to accept it, is to load these values into a file such that each character denotes a specific day/date, calculate the date based on the position of the character in the string (i.e the first character is July 1st etc), reset the calculation to handle the change to the new year at character number 184 (approximately) and to fill in what looks like a calendar object on a layout so that someone can change a work day to a non-work day if ne…

How do you call a RoboHelp topic from FileMaker 7? It would seem you want to use the script step "Send DDE Execute." Is this right? I have RoboHelp HTML displaying my help topics in Netscape. To make the help context-sensitive, I want to call a particular topic from a particular FM7 window. For example RoboHelp has given the topic "Jurisdiction" the Topic ID "Jurisdiction" and the Map # 1. What would the Send DDE Execute step look like? What is the service name fo Netscape? What is the topic text? What is the command? Is Send DDE Execute the right script step? Thanks for any help.

I then have a layout that has a summary field that sums all of the prices for each record. This takes a very long time - Is there any alternative way to speed up summaries? So, clever guy that I am, I created a summary field for a few of them and selected "Total of" as my summary function. Since the fields I am counting have either a 1 or a 0 in them, the total of the field is also the number that are marked. That's the clever part. However, after I closed the file and then reopened it, the summary fields I defined began recalculating themselves, and this took quite a long time sin…

I imagine this would be a messy solution particulary when modifications are made to the recurrences. I'm working with FileMaker 6 database application (of about 50 related tables) that resides on a Macintosh server. Users run the application from both Windows and Macintosh computers. I have written an Applescript that makes calls to FileMaker to read records and then writes out data to a UTF8 text file. (To keep this email short, I will simply state that I can not use the export feature for the Filemaker database to write out the data as Unicode because the relationship of the data needs to be maintained and in some conditional situations a…

I know that Troi makes a plugin that allows you to communicate with serial devices (Mac or PC). I also know that many Merchant Terminals (Credit Card/Debit Card processing) have RS232 Serial ports on the back. I am wondering if anyone knows if you can use this to process credit cards from the computer screen... eg: you swipe the card into a magnetic stripe reader, which activates a script which sends the data to the visa terminal, then takes back the result (authorization number or declination) to be stored in FileMaker. This would be desireable for a number of reasons: You only have to give the customer one slip of paper (rather than invoice+visa sl…

There may be several of these text files in the folder at the time of import. Right now, I import them and get the text in a unique field per record. I would now like to add several fields that extract the text based on its position relative to the commas. For each hour that is entered on the Timesheet, the user accrues Benefit Hours (Sick/Personal or Vacation) based on their individual Accrual Rate. I have attached an FM7 file that uses a simple schema for creating related records via globals. You set a global and then created related records via portals. So you can create a record in Table 2 based on the global in Table 1 (which is itself set from a record's key value). Created record in Table 3 is based on global in Table 2 (corresponds to a record). In this example there is no creation of Table 1 records via its own portal. I'm using auto-generated primary keys for my three tables. And here's where things get ugly. …
