Another question because y'all are so ******* smart. When I have a calculation field, I don't want it to calculate the result if ANY of the referenced fields are blank. I know of the "Do not calculate if all referenced fields are empty" check box, but of course that's not what I want. Is this possible?

I'm trying to paste data into the last record of a portal row, but it keeps being pasted in the first record/line of the portal. I'm sure it's super simple but I'm stuck. Here's the setup: On a layout I have song info, title, length etc. and two portals one for publishers and one for composers that access the contacts table using the Contact ID field as the link. If the data inputter don't remember the ID# for a particular person I have a button that takes him to a search result of all publishers. Once he found the one he wants I have another button that copies the Contact ID and goes back to the previous layout and pasting it into (hopefully) the next empty row. Co…

Hello everyone. I am attaching my file that I have created for my Martial Arts school. I didn't want to have to pay 300 bucks for one. What I have so far is fairly functional. It records all of my student info, and I can invoice a student. I guess my questions are as follows: 1. How does my overall format look? I know it's rough, but as long as it's functional, that's all I need. 2. Okay, so "forensics" is kind of a dramatic term -- but it correctly describes what I'm trying to do: Is it possible to determine the dates on which certain changes occurred to a database? Hi there, now i have a client that have a LAN with 3 PC. All of them contain FM6 pro and my solutions. I just want to ask what are the best way to open the hosted files from network, create a shortcut of the main file to desktop or create another file on client PC that have a script to open the hosted files. The other questions is if now i need to install 2 same copy of my solutions(ex. Accounting for 2 different company) on the same PC and run both of them using fmpro, how can i seperate it nicely, because i can't splite it to two windows. My file is not allowing the creation of new records on the server. The more investigation I do, the more I'm convinced its a server issue. I shut down FM Server, put the files on cd, bring the cd home and create 1000 records just fine except for one thing: My file has a serial number that was normally 24669 and has jumped to 1866000, however there are only 24669 records in the db. Anyone ever seen this? Any clues? In this investigation process I've also learned that the server room a/c isn't on most of the time, that the server is never rebooted, and theres someone there making changes without turning off FM Server each time. What I'm trying to do is place multiple dates with one record using portals. I'm not sure I'm going about this in the right fashion so any help would be great! Now that I have FMP7, we can finally make join tables where it makes sense to do so. For example, I have a Person table, and a Project table. Multiple people can be assigned to multiple projects. So here I added a PersonProject table, that relates the two based on the person_id and project_id. So far, so good. Correct db structure, makes logical sense, and all that. I'm sure this is a simple script, but I have no idea. I'm trying to write a script to take information from one field in a portal row (with multiple records), cut and paste into a single repeating field in a related table, and then loop back to the portal, go to the next row, cut and paste the same info on the next row into the next line in the repeating field. OK, for some reason I'm having trouble switching between databases. We have a main company database and everytime I switch to a sub database, I usually just maximise the new db over it, then for switching back I just minimise the old database underneath it - so you get a pretty fast changeover. Rather than minimising one, then maximising another window where you get a horrible delay. In this case however, I'm using troi dialog for some dialog boxes in the sub-database but when I exit from the dialogs and try to switch back to the main database, it does it for a second, then the sub-database re-activates over the top. Hi I am using the scriptmaker in FileMaker 5.5 and I've run into a little bit of a problem. I have several fields within my layout which consist of numerous checkboxes. I'm missing something and would appreciate guidance. I have an msaccess database with a table that has a variable defined as a blob. I have filemaker 5.0 pro unlimited. My objective is to get the blob variable from the msaccess table into a container field in Filemaker. Import seemed an obvious solution, but I'm stumped. Below is my import dilemma. This question is the result of lack of info in the documentation that came with FM Mobile, or could also be beyond the scope of the products I am using; please advise/help- I installed FileMaker Mobile 2.0 earlier this week, and was in the process of creating a simple 3 field database, no calculations or anything special. I own a used book shop. I want to create a database of sold books. In other words, when a customer buys a book, I want to create a record with title, author, price, category, etc., fields. The problem is that it's just too time-consuming if a customer buys 20 books. Bar codes are only of limited usefulness in the used book biz for many reasons. What I would like is something like the Quickfill feature in Quicken. You type the first few letters in the Description field and Quicken fills in the rest, not only the payee but all the other fields associated with the transaction. I swear i'm not going mad... I have a table - publications. I add fields into it. I do all manner of things - no worries. I close the db. I open and the fields have disappeared. I have it set to automatically save changes to layout. On the flip side - I have another table (same database) which is not related to publications in any way. It won't let me create a new record saying that there is no table. BUT THERE IS. double checking the layout reveals that the fields are associated as does the fields and relationships. Do i have a bug in my db or something else??? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a bit of an emergency and would appreciate any quick help. I need to print out 250 certificates this weekend from FM7 database that I built but when I inserted an EPS graphic for a background the print output was pixelated. I tried every variation and setting I could think of but I'm out of ideas why this is happening. I was able to do this last year with FM6 (the EPS-friendly version), but cannot get it to work with FM7. I've re-inserted the graphic, cut and pasted the graphic, and exported from Illustrator and Photoshop. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!

This problem has plagued me for years. Our database is used to keep records that go into our various published books. My current issue revolves around a database of the statistics concerning several hundreds of towns and cities. One field contains the town's population. Because the correct ordering of the records involves using this number (some smaller towns have the same name and thus must be sorted by population as well) I must keep this field as a "number." Filemaker will let you display such a field with a thousands separator (x,xxx) but it does not export that comma. If I change the field to text, the comma goes away. If I export the field to exce…

Trying out the trial version to see if I can replace Paradox. I am trying to use a calc field to combine Last name first name. If I do a calc field with just one field (either one) it produces a result. If I try Lname+", "+Fname I get either a blank result or a "0" (even tho it says text field). I am running FMPro 5 on Windows 98. It was running fine before, but for the last month or so it has been taking almost 15 minutes to load up. Once it's loaded, it works fine. The only thing I can think that changed is the IT guy removed a virus from my computer shortly before the slow startup started. I'm running out of ideas, and it's annoying to start it up in the morning, get coffee, and then have to leave it running all day. Thanks for any and all help!

How do I return to a specific record in a script? I've figured out how to specify a script parameter using Get (Record ID), but how do I use that later in the script to go back to that same record? I'm guessing that I'd specify "Go to record" and use a calculation? But what is the syntax to recall the Record ID that I specified at hte beginning? Or am I going about this all wrong? I am currently using the trial version of Filemaker pro 7 to store and analyze financial data. some of the calculations and sorting are getting very complex so it takes a great deal of time to compile different reports. Have a problem which I have also found in FMP 4.1 regarding the accuracy of searches. Running under Mac OS 10 I use a name and address database of about 1800 records and need to search with multiple parameters. The search looks for fields that contain a single character within a string in one field and consecutive characters in a string in a second field. Although there are records that match the search parameters they are either not found at all or only some of the qualifying records are found. Has anyone experienced such a situation or have any ideas? I have deleted records and re-input but the problem still exists.

I can't get the scroll bar to show in a portal. When I select and unselect "show vertical scroll bar," it moves the shaded erea over to make a space for the scroll bar, but the scroll bar does not appear. There is only empty space there. It does not appear in either layout or browse mode. What in the world am I doing wrong! Please help. is there a way to set up a script to duplicate a record if the value of field 1 is true, then another copy if field 2 is true, another if field 3 is true, etc for 3 fields. 1. I have a multi-user database. 2. Each user is limited to viewing only records created by themselves. 3. My problem is that i need each user to be able to search the whole database for a phone #, just to be able to find out if that phone # exists in the database. They don't need any other info from that record other than if that # exists in the database. 4. Howdy, I'm trying to create a simple calculation field. The field combines two other fields into one. The first of the fields is simply text (ie: ABC), the other field is a serialized number field (ie: 00123). The problem I'm running into is when I try to combine the fields, using a simple calc, FileMaker truncates the leading zeros in my serialized number (ie: ABC + 00123 = ABC123, no zeros). a) Why on earth does FileMaker drop the zeros? I have been using Filemaker for a couple of years now. Mostly learning things as I needed to. I realized the other day that I have not really used any type of naming system for filenames, table names or field names. My question is; is it appropriate to have field names or table names with spaces? Do I have to use an underscore instead of a space? Can I use a period in a field name? I am having trouble deleting 3 records in a related database. No matter what I try they will not delete. I have just switched to Filemaker 7 within the last two weeks and everything seemed fine after converting my Filemaker 6 databases until now. The 3 records are in a datebase called Wholesale Invoices. It has two relationships: Wholesale Invoices Line Items and Customers - Wholesale. I have checked the Wholesale Invoices Line Items database and there are no records relating to the Wholesale Invoice Database. This is what I want to do: Associate a record in a person table with one or more skills listed as records (each record has a single field with a skill name in it) in a skills table. Let the person enterring data select a skill and have it associated with the record in the person table record or add a skill if what they want is not there. Hi all, im new in this forum and my english is not so fine, but I'll try to explain what happens as well i can do. I'm working in a fp7 file in which a script uses a replace function to change some word in a text field. Well the fact is that if the text field dimension is under 3800 chars (nearly) all goes fine. If the text field dimension is over 3800 chars(nearly) the resulting text is wrong (some replace are doubled, and the end of text is cutted). Hi, everyone. I hope someone can help me with this. I have a database (names, addresses, cities, etc). In some cases I have only one name (first & last), and sometimes two (first & last, first2 & last2). I am trying to see if I could write a script so that records with two names would be printed twice, first in format "last, first" Return "last2, first2" and then "last2, first2" Return "SEE last, first". I have shipped my FM6 files to FM7 to test them. I have a script that opens a second file, creates a new record, fills in some blanks by lookup from file#1, goes to a field that is formatted as a pop up list, then stops. In FM6 the popup list would show, the user could choose from the list and continue on their own. In FM7, the cursor shows in the field, but the popup does not show. If I then manually click outside the field and then back in, the popup shows??? Am I doing something wrong here?? Greg Young

Ok, I know this has been discussed before. I thought this Menus issue would be resolved in V2. The Popup lists, in this system is sooooo incompetent. How could you have a reliable database where menues, and lists take 3-4 seconds each to pull. You'd better off actually using your pen and paper, or typing. If you have several popup lists on a page, you need a long time before you are done. Of course it is not my system, and I know that. This happens on 3 different PCs that I have all running Win. XP. I'm a beginner for Filemaker 7 and I have a question about using relationships. I have data in two different databases about a set of people each identified by an ID code. I want to combine them into one. So I set up the relationship between the databases to correspond the ID codes, and I make new fields in one of the databases and say to auto-fill based on the relationship. But it only auto-fills when I create a new record, and not for existing records. How do I do this for existing records?

Hi. I have find criteria that works when I input it manually, so I know there is matching data. When I place that criteria in a find step in a script it returns no records. I have a layout attached to my 'Trips' table. The one field on that layout is called 'BillToDropdown' and it is an edit list that pulls all client names from table 'BillTo'. Hello. I just installed FileMaker Pro 5 on a Windows 2000 machine and can't get the program to start. No error messages or anything. The cursor just goes "busy" for a few seconds and it's like you never tried to start the program. However, when I look at the active process list in the task manager, "FileMaker Pro.e" appears as many times as you try to start the program. I can't find anything in the KB at filemaker.com that's been helpful in this issue yet. Any ideas? Thanks!

In MS Access, the user enters data into a "form" (FM7="layout"); when you go to print the data/record it is typically done with the use of a "report". I know the FM7 equivalent is still a layout but I need advice on the nuts and bolts of that second layout. My example: layout 1A would be the "form" that the user enters the data. There might be many label fields that may just be instructional, like: "please don't forget to do this" or "these fields should be entered in this circumstance". My problem is that when I do said export, the field names are not exported along with the information. With a large number of fields being exported it is very cumbersome to have to go through and title each column. Hello, Hope someone can help me: I have a backoffice system for travel agents. When itinerary is made I put reservation number for identification. When the invoice is arrived I search for the reservation number and then I run an automatic script with Replace function. But, here could it be a problem. If something happen all posts could be replaced which would damage a lot. So I would write a calculation so I can see how many find posts have the reservation number. If the find post and calculated value is same the script will follow with the replacement. If not the script will end. Please, do anyone of you know how I should write the calculation? Th…

I have been using PerformApplescript to change printers, and this seems to be working fine(I can see the printer change in the Printer Setup Utility) but when the Print dialog comes up, it stills reverts to the previous printer. The Specify option in the Print step does not remember the printer. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello, I have two databases (pricing databases) which were identical 2 years ago. (has price breakdowns for different quanities of a product). One database (database a) is current in these fields the other is not (database :. However i have a lot of linked pictures in database b and don't want to loose these. Therefore, what type of script could i do to take the pricing data from (database a), and bring it into (database : without deleteing the current container fields. There are probably alot of new records that were created in database a, that are not in database b. Any help would be greatly appretiated. Thanks Corey

I have a script from a FileMaker 4.1 DB that finds records that were entered in the last 24 hours. I used a Paste Result (Today - 1). I believe "Today" doesn't exist in FM 7.0 - does anyone have an idea how to re-created this script in FM 7? Thanks, David

I'm having some difficulty in finding the unique records in a joint table. I have a joint table that has two primary keys from two related tables where key1 and key2 are the primary keys in the related tables. Below is an example of a list of records in the joint table: Key1 Key2 A1 123 A2 123 A3 123 A4 456 A5 456 For example I wanted to find the unique record keys of Key2, what is the find do I need to get a return result of: Key2 123 456 I'm not too concerned of which value key 1 is returned in the find. Hello, This is driving me crazy, because I can't seem to find a solution to what seems to be an easy problem. I have a notes field that I have setup to be 4 line of text with a scroll bar. When you get to the end of the first line of text when typing it will go to the next line (works great). But if you are in the middle of a word when it needs to go to the next line, it will continue that word on the next line. How can I tell Filemaker if the last word on the line does not fit move it to the next line and so forth. This seems like it should be just a built in function. I can't seem to find anything in the help files regarding this. Thanks

I am a single user creating a medical database for myself. I have FM7 Pro but have been toying with the idea of getting FM7 Developer. I am wondering about the significance of the "enhancements" that looking at the filemaker website include "custom functions, file maintenance tools, script debugger, customized solutions, and creating standalone runtime applications". I think I will ultimately get it but I am curious if other users would recommend getting it ASAP or "whenever". I down loaded a plug in called MacExample that triggers events from a field and auto formats fields. I think I got this from cns, but i can't remember. My questions are: Is this a free plug in? Is is the same one that comes form developer? Can I use it on a network on more than one machine? I remember seeing another method (new to 7) that you can autoformat a phone number (or any number), but I don't think it used a plug in but I can't fint that now.

I have what seems to me an easy solution. However I, for some reason or another, can't figure it out. I'm trying to jump from one file to another. I have one file, Tickets.fp5, which has ticket information for customers, etc., and another, "Computers.fp5" which stores the users' computer information. I'm trying to print a report to include records in a range of dates in the "Send Date" field. Ideally I'd like the report to be for the week ending xx/xx/xxxx. Barring that, I'd like to have the user input the beginning and ending dates manually and perform a find based on the user input. I have set up a screen for the user to enter the date range like this "xx/xx/xxx...xx/xx/xxxx" but would like to find a tighter way of doing this as it is not intuitive and requires the user to be trained in what format to enter the date range in.

I was working on a FileMaker form a while back, and I've just started up on it again. When I go to the layout view, I don't have a background image (of the scanned form) to help me get everything lined up. Yet when I go to the Browse view, I see the graphic. I've selected "Do Not Print" from the menu, and selected view non-printing items from the menu, but I still don't see the background image. Do you guys have any suggestions? It was working before, and I've tried inserting a new graphic to a new field and choosing don't print. It shows up on top of all the other things I'm working on, and it won't go away, even after unchecking the show non-printing objects menu.…

Hi all: The filemaker 7 trial for macosx doesn't install on my system. The installer stops with the error: "An error occured while reading the installer data. This installer appearsto be damaged. 1009:5, -43 File not found" I already did the obvious thing to do, which is download again, to no avail: the same error. My system is Macosx 10.3.3 on a G3 ibook with 576MB RAM. is this a known issue? Is there a fix for it? Thanks, Paulo

How do you change pages on a multi page report with the status area on hide and lock? If I don't lock the status area I can use the CTRL + up or down, but if I lock the status area I can't use the CTRL key. Is there another way to use keyboard navigation with the status are on hide/lock? Is there something I can add to my script? I just don't want the user to click on the bottom left status button and possibly click on a layout in preview mode. It would cause problems. Thanks for all the help.

I have some files that back in the FM 5.5 and 6 days used to use an Auto-Entered value created via a the Status(CurrentPortalRow) function to create a Display Order value for records created within a portal. The portal was programed to sort the records within it based on that Display Order value. FileMaker Server 3 18 Databases 15 Clients We have used Server 3 on a G3 233 MHz PowerPC running OS 9.0.4 with 96M RAM for several years. It was very stable and presented no problems. Records were returned very quick for the most part. This server began having issues and we replaced it with a newer server. The newer server is a G4 350 MHz running OS 9.2.2 with 224M RAM. It was a fresh install of OS 9.0 with 3 updates to 9.2.2. After installing Server 3 and opening the correct databases, we notice terrible lag between screens and pulling data. I have 75 relationships and I only want to use one at a time. The field used to link the file will always be the same for all found records. Is there a way to link to one specific file, of the 75, based on the found field without 75 differant layouts? I'm working out of one file with data for 75 stores. I have spent quite a bit of timing searching in the forum but cannot find an answer to this simple question. Every time I open the main menu it does not open to the size that I want it on the screen. So the user has to resize the opening window every time. There must be a script command that controls the window size so that it opens the size you need it to open? This makes me think of another question as well. Can the window size be locked so that the users cannot change the window size? Thanks

Filemaker pro 6 on windows unexpectedly quitting when database is accessesed through the web. Is it necessary for a global field to be present in a layout for it to function? I thought global fields can still store a value even if they are not present in the layout. But when I deleted the global fields from the layout, my script wouldn't work properly anymore. My intention was to hide the global field. Can somebody enlighten me on this? Thanx, Chard

Hi Guys, I love the flexibility of the multiple window feature built into FMP 7 but am still getting to grips with using them. What I need is a function/method to determine which is the currently active window (the foreground window). I have looked at the Get(WindowVisible) function and its not quite what I need.
