  1. Hi, thanks for letting me pick your brains... (be gentle, my first request) I have information about clients organized into a FM database, the date of communication is one of the fields. When I start a new record for a client I already have in FM,I would like to see a few fields from the last communication with them. So I think I would like to find the second most recent date (the most recent is the record I am currently viewing/endering) Is this the best way to get that information? Any ideas or tricks up your sleeves? Thanks so much! -Steve

I have 4 files that contain a yearly archive of stories. Each has title, author, date, and page number. these are very simple files. I was planning to share the files over the web and allow users to search the files for references in the stories. say for a particular company. the question is: can filemaker change the color of the words it finds? or highlight the words it finds in the text? for example: find the word string: "real estate" list every record the contains "real estate" and color or highlight "real estate". The text can have a word count up to 1000-2000 words which can make the result difficult to locate in the field. are there any examples that…

However, i would like the search view to have at the top the fields I want my user to be able to search on, then below that have a portal (most likely) containing the found records. I played around with the idea of a self-join on a table, but am missing the proper setting to have it display all the items matched, I only get the same item. My guess is this has something to do with the matches, does anyone know what the correct match setting is? thanks for your help in advance, J__

Hello. I'd like to script the creation of a found set that spans a given date range to be used in the printing of a report. I know that manually I could just enter find mode, go to my dateEvent field, select the greater than or equals to symbol, enter the desired start date in my dateEvent field, perform the find and then sort by dateEvent. I just don't know how to script the "greater than or equal to" a date part of the routine. What I am thinking is that if I can find a set of records and change a value in one of the fields, say from 2 to 1 so that the set of records matching the find would have the value of 1 than a portal sorted on the field having the value of 1 would bring the found set to the top of the portal. I have to deduplicate large databases on a regular basis and just switched from fp5 to fp7. The script I had written for my fp5 database involved building a calculation field from the name and address fields, setting a global field to the calculation field and comparing to the next record's calculation field. If they are the same it sets another field with an 'x'. I can then search for the x's in that field and find my duplicates. It works great, but I am looking for 1. how to use the global field in fp7 (it seems vastly different than 5) and 2. is there a better way to de-duplicate my lists? In my sales quotation layout there are 12 lines of data that contain Part Number, Manufacturer, Qty, price, price ext and delivery comments. So, each record can contain up to twelve part numbers. I need to be able to search from a list view for a part number that hits every current record and each Part Number field within the record to arrive at a found set. Can someone please steer me in the right and easiest direction on how to handle this? Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone! I have two global fields of type 'date', that are used to input two dates from the user. I needed a script that will take these two dates and perform a find operation so that I get all the records within these date ranges inputted by the user. The problem I am running to is that I am not able to put "field1...field2" in the date field in find mode. Thanks

Hi, I'm sure this is a basic question, but I can't figure it out. I would like to do a find that compares the values in two fields (for instance, work address 1 and preferred address 1) and comes up with those records that have the same values in the two fields. I'm doing this over a network, so I don't have the option of creating any new fields. Thanks, Tiger

What is the proper way to insert a " >= " in a date field? Thanks, Chard

This will seem trivial to most of you pros, but here goes: how I can select all companies beginning with the letter A (or whatever). Suppose I have two companies in the file (ACME Co., Easy as PI). If I use A* in the Find Request, both records are found, not just ACME. Ditto with "A*". I've also experimented with @ and other symbols; nothing works right (either all of the records are found or none). How can I use * (or something else) to mean all the following letters and words in the field?

Hi! I want to be able to find a specific number in a number field that can have a range of number. For example, if the value of that field for a record is "420...700", or "500...501", or "500" , I want to be able to find that record by performing a search with the value "500". I thought that by just entering the data with the dots (...) it would work, but it just returns the records with the specific value I search. Is there another way I should enter my data, or perform my find?

The script then performs the find, but before displaying the results, I want to constrain the found set further by specifying that this is the phone number marked as preferred for directory use. The fields I have are LNameFName and Exam Date So manually I entered a date range and did the Find. Then I did a sort on the LNameFName but it just seems to stir it up, not sort. What simple thing am I overlooking?

I have records with the field "Call Back Dates" that has the date when I should call the person back. I would like to find all the records that need to be called back in the current week. Can you suggest how to construct a script that would take a date (Current date or entered date) and display all the records that should be called in the week containing that date? For exmaple, if I were to enter 6/22/04 or 6/23/04, it would display all records that need to be called from 6/21/04 to 6/27/04. Is there a way to display records for that week AND the dates before? I tried looking through the forum but counldn't find the answer to this question... probably because it's a really eay solution and a no-brainer and no one else needs help with it.
