Greetings, We have a group of Filemaker users who print to a Canon 6100 from Macintosh computers using OSX 10.3. After the print dialogue opens, if they then select Filemaker from the menu options in order to print just the current record or a blank record, Filemaker 7 crashes. Page numbers in the footer are correct when viewed in Previow mode, but print incorrectly. The print dialogue box "Number pages from" has 197 in the box. When I try to change this number to 1, the file prints out beginning with 197 no matter what number I enter in the box. I know there is (or used to be) a document concerning this problem in the Techinfo, but I can't find it any more. I think the Techinfo document concerned a workaround that worked with FM Pro 6, but it also worked for me using 5.5. I am using FM Pro 5.5 ver. 2 and Mac OS X 10.3.5 Any suggestions out there? I have two tables that have different royalty information for the same recording artist. Each table has several different records for each artist depending on how many different types of royalties they get. So I hear that portals are not meant for printing, so you're supposed to print from the related record's layout. I'm confused as to how to do that when I have a layout with 2 portals. There's three databases in question. Invoices, InvoiceLineItems and TrackingNumbers. The main Invoice layout has a portal for line items and a portal for tracking numbers. I have printng working fine from a lineitems layout, but without with tracking numbers. How should I add them in? If I make it a repeating field then I have to limit how many boxes a shipment goes into. That may not be workable. I have a layout with a logo in jpeg format and when I print the records the logo is printed as black box. I can't figure out what is causing this problem. Is there some print setting or layout setting i need to change in order to print the logo correcyly thanks.

We have recently installed FMP6 on a Windows XP desktop to print magnet striped cards to a Fargo DTC525 printer. The printer setup is fine, and the layouts look great. The problem is the mag stripe. To encode the data, the printer needs ASCII characters with specified leads and endings. Piece of cake, I made calc fields to create that text for each record. Getting the printer to encode them properly, however, has eluded me. I can print just text to the cards and it looks great. I have a single text field called "Codes" which is formated as a checkbox set. It uses a defined value list with multiple values. Lets say "A, B, C, D". Lets say a user checks "A, B & C". When I place the "Codes" field in a report and preview it, only the first value will showup. In this case "A". How can I get FMPro to print all of the values selected? Thanks, Kelly

But now I can't figure out something else: To make this as easy as possible, If I can find the set of desired items in a line items file, how do I set up a print layout that is based on other criteria in the items? Hi, I recently purchased a DYMO 330 label printer which seems to work fine in most respects. The problem I am having is that even when I specify a certain paper (label) size in the print setup script step, it is not saved in the script and always reverts to some default. Hi, I'm using FM for a document library, and I store the documents in a container field. To print, I made a layout that displays them at full size. Is there a way to print the container's contents directly without having to preview them first? All my documents only have one page now, but this method probably won't work for multi-page files or images that are bigger than my layout dimensions. Thanks for your help, Kate.

I am using FileMaker Pro 6 on XP, going to be upgrading to FM 7. I need to print on label stock, but cannot find where in FM 6 to select the appropriate Avery (or other) label stock. If FM 6 doesn't handle this, does anyone know if FM 7 does?

I've just moved up to FMP 7.0 and Mac OS X. I have a single-record file, merged to output as a report. In 5.5 I had to split the merge fields across two layouts because there is a max number of printable pages, and my document is coming in around 25 pages in total. Somewhere/somehow, I thought FMP 7.0 was bigger and better, and would allow me to print more pages. I'm wrong aren't I - the same page print limitations apply, don't they? [color:"black"]

Is there a way of making one field output into colums of text? This field is a sub category... and can have up to 200 entries in it (all one word or two). Currently when I gneralte a list report it runs for pages. What I would like to do is make a second column to save paper - there is heaps of room... Any thoughts on this?

I am doing an application conversion from FileMaker Pro 3.0 to FileMaker Pro 7.0. In the pro 3.0. Seven pages is the maximum number of printable page in FM 3.0. I just wonder how many can the FM 7.0 handle. Jackson

I have Filemaker Pro 6. In the Print Preview screen, the record will show up as page 3 and the Index will show up as page 3 for the record. However, when I print it out, it starts to shift and the record that should be at the top of page 3 will print at the bottom of page 2 from the printer but the Index won't update and will still list that record as page 3 even though now it appears on page 2. Any ideas how to fix? I'm not familiar with Filemaker Pro at all and this is the first that it's been brought to my attention. Any help would be appreciated.

How can I tell FrameMaker to 'group' a sub-summary instead of breaking it accross two pages... it give me the heading at the bottom of one page with a few entries and then the rest on the next page... I want some logic to tell it if you cannot fit all the of the sub summary on the current page, move to the next page and print it there and continue... I have looked at all the breaking options in the part and nothing actually does this... surely other people need this function too! Is there a plugin that can add functionality to FileMaker that could do it? desperate!

I have a three-database system in which I have one file containing personnel records, one record per person. I have two related databases for project managers to record projects and project hours (one project per record), and log who worked on which project and how many hours they should be credited for. In the personnel records database, I have a portal that lists the projects each individual worked on. How can I print out a report for each individual that contains the same data as that portal? Often there are more related records than the number of portal rows I have set.

I can print fine using one line of text, but I want to print two lines (Monaco 12 point), which fills up the height of the label with a few pixels of breathing room, after I've adjusted the field size. When printing (and previewing), the top half of the first line is significantly cut off. If I make the body part larger and slide the field down, both lines print, but it is printing partially off (too low) the label. We recently had an issue with printing on of our layouts. I had the portal set to 50 rows max, reduce size of enclosing part to shrink it up. It turns out because of some data quality issues (old, imported inaccurate data) I needed to have to set to about 250 max rows for the one printed portal. So I got that taken care of and everything printed fine expect the first page of the layout. The first record from the portal printed, then proceeded to skip the remaining records on the page. Once page two printed, everything was back to normal. To get it to print the first page correctly, I had to put the portal rows back down to 50. So then I combined that first page…

Running FM 7.03 and have a solution that requires a few different print setups. Basically, a label from a label printer, and reports from a variety of ink jet and laser printers. When I setup the script to run the print setup it doesn't work. As soon as I save in ScriptMaker and return to the script it returns to the default printer and page setup. Anyone else seen this and know of a fix?

Greetings! I am working on a solution for our company. The user enters data, then once a week, it's printed. Pretty simple right? Well, on the report, it needs to be in landscape mode, but for the data entry and one other printout, it needs to be portrait. I can't get my pages to print in landscape. I've got two different scripts that open up the pages I want to print in an new window and as they do so I included the Page Set Up script step to set the Page Setup accordingly. The problem is that while the page does print with a landscape orientation the field that are to the right of what would be the portrait right hand border is just blank page. Hello all! I using FM 6 and can't figure this out. Fairly new at using FM so forgive me:-) Created sub-summary layout that will summuarize the db info by a field called Pricinct. All is well until I try to preview/print. Ideally I would like to preview/print one Precinct at a time or One page(s) per summurize(Pricinct) item. The way it's working now is that when preview/print it shows more than one Precinct per page. Precinct 100 all related records Next Page Precinct 101 all related records

We do a lot of barcode/label printing and are looking for an industrial strength printer that can handle larger (full 8.5 x 11) labels. We are currently using Dymo and Brother label printers. And while these have been adequate, we now need something a bit better. The Zebra printers look great but, to the best of my knowledge, aren't compatible with Macs.

I use FM 7.03 on a G4 PowerBook and also participate in a small PC network. When printing from FM on my Mac it is a simple matter to scale the output. However in Windows 2000 using an HP LaserJet it seems that neither computer nor printer software allows an FM file to be printed other than 100%. Am I missing something? or is this a known FM shortcoming?

We have automated our Label and Certificate printing which will take items from an invoice and print out the appropriate items. What we cannot do is come up with a way to take the quantity shipped and print that number of labels/ certs. Is there a way to take the number in a field and transfer it to a print dialog box? A plug-in perhaps?

I have a solution converted from 6 to 7 that is hosted on a OS X Server accessed by OS X clients. The solution includes a mail merge type feature for printing form letters. The feature uses the FM 6 method of nested Substitute functions. In all other areas of the solution, there are no printing problems, but when printing the mail merge letters, any or all of the 4 margins may change while printing. Each time the script is run, any margin may move as much as 1/4" or so. Any ideas? Thanks.

I need FM to print a layout of a page in ASCII to a file. The ASCII file is needed by a number chrunching program. I could export the data to a file but I need to include commands to the number chruncher as well. I have a layout containing all these but printing to a file will always include printer commands as well. Is there a solution?

I have several users across the country using several different printers. Some of the users work in the OSX format on Macs and others are on PCs in the Windows XP environment. There are several reports that these users print out using scripted buttons. They are prompted to acknowledge the platform they are working in so the script with the proper Print Setup will be used. I have a database set up to create invoices. Page one must be on letterhead (tray 3), all other pages are to come from high capacity (tray 6). I have set up the script to print page 1 to 1 to tray 3, and then print pages 2 to 9999 to tray 6. My question is this - we have around 10 printers in the firm. If i create the script to specify pages to print, it obviously also specifies the printer. I want to use no dialog otherwise users will end up with 4 windows confirming print (page, printer, page, printer). Hello, we're using 5.5 and are still vexed by the situation described above. There used to be (versiion 3!) a crafty option-key move that would supposedly fixt this problem... but it was never a complete cure. We keep our correspondence in FMP using calculated header material (cc lists, addressing, etc). Are the calculated headers, plus all the sliding/shifting just too much for FMP to handle? Are there any workarounds other than manually ***grrr*** previewing and adding paragraph breaks to make lines avoid the page break?

I have a simple layout that shows about 40-50 fields with text. In order to set the sliding options I have added lines between each field (allowing the text and field value to stay together). However, when I then set the sliding the last 4 rows start to repeat on a second page when I am in the preview mode. Dear FileMaker Forum Members, I am quite new to FileMaker. We recently upgraded a W2K PC installed with FileMaker v6 to WinXP. After the upgrade, the user complained that the printing from FM has become very slow. On investigation, it was found that the printjob in w2k pc is generated in txt format and the size of the print job is only a few kbytes. However, while printing the same document on a winxp PC, the print job is in bmp format and the size of the file goes to Mbytes. Is there any setting in FM which I need to change to generate the print job in txt format? Please advice. Your support is appreciated. Regards, Harish

Upgraded from 5.0v3 to 7.0v3. One of the last databases we use with repeating fields is a technician timesheet. A simple find for the previous week and sort by date then a print. On the first record, no data, on the rest of the records, the sliding and printing are not working any more. Even tried removing all field borders. Even tried coverting all the data on the print layout to merge fields, yet still the sliding and printing is all off. Tried doing a recovery of the database and still no positive results. When I called FM, they made it sound like I was the first person in the universe to have this problem. Am I?

I have a script that prints up to 12 reports. My client has two printers and uses one of them about 90% of the time but they need to use the second printer occasionally. I want to use the script step 'Print' on the first report and then use 'Print [no dialog]' for the rest of the reports. I've tried - If Switch off Print set switch on else Print [no dialog] end if The second Print holds the choice made at the save script step no matter what I change in the first 'Print' step. Hi there, I have a panasonic KX-P1121 printer which use to print report and receipt. The font i set is "Draft 12CPI". It work well for me in Win98. After i change it to winXP, the font didn't found and it print out graphic font for me. Even i set the print quality to "Draft" but the output still graphic mode. In windows XP, I totally can't found the dot matrix font like Draft 10, 12... CPI or related font. In windows 98, the KXP1121 driver contain a lot of dot matrix draft font, i don't know why after change to winXp all the font become missing. I have a layout that sorts on a summary field and a sub-summary field... the issue is that it is breaking records that appear on the page, leaving the start at the botom of one page and finishing them at the top of the other with nop reference to what they are!... I really want them to all remain together in a group with their sub summary heading... eg ... Hi, I'm having trouble printing from a Mac. I have a Letters database that runs a standard print script when the user clicks a button. PC's run it OK and print the letter, but Mac's don't. I've used the exact same script (i've checked and they are identical) in another database and both PC's and Macs can print from it. Another oddity is that when i tried to debug the script on a mac FileMaker Developer (version 7.3) 'Quit due to an unexpected error' when it got to the standard print script. I just upgrade from 4 to 7 on OS 10.3. That of course should make no difference. Anyway when I go to print out a bunch of addresses onto envelopes. It keeps printing the first address in the list, over and over, instead of moving on to the next. Yes, I have selected "Records being browsed". What is going on? any help would be appreciated. I'm so frustrated. I'm trying to print VHS spine labels (Avery 5199). For some reason, it won't print all the labels for the "found set"--shows them in Preview Mode and also in Browse Mode....but when you print, only prints the first label instead of the quantity in the found set. I'm relatively new to Filemaker...and quite frankly, I'd switch back to Access in a heartbeat if it was available for Macs!

I have a layout that contains a sub-summary at the top of the layout and then a portal in the body. The portal shows 25 records. I set the body part to Allow part to break across page boundaries. 20 records can show up in the portal and still have it print on 1 page. Any more and it needs a 2nd page. When it print the records on the second page, it starts over at record 15 and lists the rest of the records. Why doesn't it start at record 21 and print on from there? I have tried different settings but nothing has helped. I would appreciate any help you may offer. Thanks! john

Hi I'm testing FileMaker 7.02 on Panther 10.3.4. I've developed an accounting program in FileMaker 6 that prints invoices. They have a variable number of line items so I use a portal and sliding to allow invoices with lots of lines to print on two pages whereas those with only a few line items can fit on one page. This works perfectly in FIleMaker 6, but on testing in FileMaker 7 random unwanted blank pages are printed. This seems to be a repeatable bug in the sliding/printing behaviour. I just installed FileMaker Developer 7v3. Previously used FM 6 Pro. Printing to a printer now takes about 15-20 seconds per page where before I could print several pages in a second. Printing with FM6 still fast, so nothing has changed in the environment. Printing to a PDF slows down even more, so it is not unique to the real printer. There are several other reports of slow printing, but I have not seen one as bad!

I was trying to find some information in the forum about printing data from related files. But I'm a bit confused about how this process works. I have a Main file that has some information in it and a related file where data is displayed in a portal. If I wanted to print the data in the related file I would script the Go To Related Related Records step and then call an external script to print the related records. The problem is that there is some data in the Main file that should appear on the report. I have a script which displays the printer setup dialog and I changed some settings there and it works ok, but on the clients machine will i have to tell them to change the percentage and other things? Hi All, I want to print a layout which has only one field which extends to about 10 pages. When I print that layout, it prints only some pages from the middle. I checked the printer configuration and it appears to be fine. It shows properly in the Preview mode as well. Please let me know what could be the problem in printing the whole text properly.

Question 1: I have a variety of Avery labels (they are at work and I'm not, so I don't have the numbers). None of them appear in the FileMaker label list. Most of them are not on 8.5 X 11 sheets but are on smaller sheets (like 4X6 or so). Is there a way to set this custom size? I can put the label size in the custom area but FileMaker will assume that they are on bigger sheets. Question 2: Most of the time I don't need a full (8.5 X 11) sheet of labels printed. In fact, I might only need 5-10 at a time. This seems like a very wasteful way to operate. How do I re-use the sheets and get the labels to print where there are still labels left on the sheet? I have created a print script, I'll call "Print Package" that contains 7 separate print scripts using the "Perform Scripts"function. Each of the 7 scrips is a print script. The reason for this is so each of the seven can be printed separately or as a package. The script in question is suppose to print in a specific order based on how the script is written. Print Script A Print Script B Print Script C...and so on, up to G. My problem is that the package prints out of order. Hi Folks, We have a client who bought FMp 5.5 2 years ago and has used it on his main database ever since with no problems - He still had another small database on about 5 PC's (Win 98) which he served via an NT server. Lately he upgraded this database to version 5.5 too as his old NT server packed in - Now all his databases are running off a 2000 server. The problem is that on the version 3 database he had a OKI microline 3320 9 pin dot matrix printer which worked fine - However, ever since he converted the files to FMp 5.5 the dot matrix printes everything 3 or 4 times the size it used to print under FMp 3. A newbie to Filemaker pro7. Set up a little database of my toy train collection. When I print from the table view, no problem. But when I try and print from the form view in browse (trying to print an individual form of a single item) Filemaker Pro7 crashes, gives an error report saying "sorry for the inconvenience"!!! Using Windows xp. Can anyone provide a fix? If I can't print my inventory in the form view, the database is useless for my purposes. Thanks Paul

Choosing a label After alot of poking around I have found that there are too many places and default settings for this label printer. I print out med labels using the 30326 label in version 6 after some modifications. And now I am upgrading my DB from FMP6 to 7. I will go to the print setup and change the label to 30326 while in layout mode so I can see the boundry lines. Sometimes they change correctly and sometimes they do not. When they change correctly (YEA), I print and they change back to the manufactures default of 30252 and prints it out that way (CRY). I was wondering if anybody has had problems dealing with slow printing in FileMaker. I takes a long time to print stuff. If I have to print lets say 10 records, it will print one, then stop, then print another, then stop, etc etc; instead of printing them all at once without halting. Just wondering if anybody else has encountered this problem. -John

When printing on a Mac OSX I find that my printing script shows me the print layout in the background when displaying the print dialog box. I have used the Freeze window command. The same script works fine on a windows XP machine. Grateful for ideas.

What is the best plug in for changing printers? I have looked at a few, tried the demos on a few, but I'm hoping to get some opinions from people who USE the plug-ins, not the people selling them. Hello, I have a layout with a header and footer. This layout has five buttons in a row side by side (four of the five are linked by scripts to a layout). When I click on the Preview Mode button the four that are linked to scripts vanish and the other one is still there. How can I show the other four too? They all fit within the page margins. Greg

I tried the method posted on the Filemaker website, but it didn't pan out. If I cannot print a database back to back using Filemaker Pro 5.5, is there another program I could export it to that would work out? Word and Excel don't seem to do it and Adobe Pagemaker crashes when I try to import the information (I'm using an old Mac). Any advice on this issue is appreciated!

Well, I'm in the middle of my conversion process and I am back on a problem I noticed several months ago with the change in behavior of the Page Setup[] and Print[] script steps in OS X. My 5/6 solution prints with no dialog most of the time, printing the form or report to the user's default printer. With FM7, print options (All records, Current record, and Blank record) are now stored in the Print [ Restore ] subscript. I can deal with changing these around in all my print scripts and reports, but I'd still like to have the Print with No Dialog behavior that my users have been used to. Using Arial 12 in a layout, an on screen preview looks ok, but a printout to any of the printers available here (HP (3 models), Xerox and Ricoh) all produce the same result, some random lines of text in a multiple page report lose words, the spaces remain for the words. If I change to a different font then all is well on screen and printing, so what is so special about arial? Anyone found a way of taming this?

I run into this problem every time I try to create new database from an empty file. When I go to set up the label format - we always use 5660 Avery - it's three across and ten down. For some reason the layout only produces nine down. On the older version of Filemaker we had you could add a footer and it usually corrected the problem so it shows as 10 down. But in Filemaker 7 the ole footer band aid as we called it doesn't seem to work...does anyone have a quick fix for this?? It drives me mad! Thanks for your time!

I am making a database to deal with member information. The data is stored in two major tables -- families and individuals. I want to print out pages for the members/families to check and update their information. The family data prints out one record per page. There is significantly less information for each individual in that family. It currently prints out 3 per page. Is there any way to get a page break at the end of each family? So if there are six members, I get a page and a half, next family has one member, printed on a page by itself, next family 2 member gets own page, etc. Otherwise, I have to take a pair of scissors to it and staple little 1/3 page …

Hello, I have some reports that need to be printed on different printers with either landscape or portait layout. One script runs a production report on the hp1300 laser in landscape (print sideways on the paper). But in the same database we may need to run a different script to diff printer as potrait layout(normal printing). When selecting that specific sript the report will always be printing the same way all the time. Therefore is there a way for the script to remember and keep that information in the script to which printer and the setup for that printer. I had a problem with printing an eps logo in filemaker 6 under os x.3. This seems to be solved by updating to v4. But: now it does not want to print my text anymore (it simply stops printing. It's probably an old font that I use, because if I change it to e.g. Arial it works fine. I can also make a pdf ('save to pdf'), but then my logo is rubbish again. Does anyone have a solution for this? I know it's an old version and probably and old issue which might have been here before. I'm sorry for that, but I could not find anything about this issue. I have a layout with thirty single-line text fields on top and a large half-page text field for a comment beneath. The upper text fields slide/collapse if empty. The comment field rises up accordingly. The layout extends over a page and a half, but with sliding prints without exception on a single page. The default font on the comment field is Times New Roman 11. Users have pasted in comments in numerous sizes and fonts. When printing from a Windows machine (running FMP 5.5v2) to a networked printer, the comment field which contain non-default fonts get cut off on the bottom. Ok, I need a Filemaker rep to maybe answer this if possible, hmm not probable . There is a Purchase Order database that has two layouts setup. One is for data entry and the other is for printing. The layouts contain fields for "id, description, quantity, unit of measure, price, price unit, and extended amount" these are all fields that repeat 50 times on each layout. They are designed to have borders (left, bottom, top and between repetitions) as well as sliding up (based on all above, with reduce the size of the enclosing part checked). I have a multi-tabe system that I have recently upgraded from 5 to 7. The databases (still the old structure. I'll redo this as I go along) are hosted on a Mac G4, FileMaker Server 7.02. When a user runs a print script or prints manually from his Windows 2000 machine to a network printer, the result is gibberish. The server and client are speaking IP. The client and the printer are speaking IPX. I can print the same report from my OS X machine to his network printer. My G5 is speaking IP to the server and Appletalk to the network printer. Using File Maker Pro 6 to print labels on the Brother QL-500 label printer never presented a problem. However, every time I try to print in File Maker Pro 7 I get an immediate program crash. I run a database for a mailing company and each of our jobs involve the printing of thousands of pages (address carrier sheets) with both static and variable data. Each page typically contains a company logo (pict file approx. 40kb), name and address details of the mail pieces' recipient and a questionaire with tick boxes. The database was created in FM4 and was/still is running perfectly, feeding 2 HP 8150 printers. Just upgraded to 7 form 5.5 on a brand new G5 Yippee!!! Problem is Neither Server nor Clients can print to our Canon Imagerunner Machine. We can print to the HP's and the Kyrocera's but no Canon. Have reinstalled drivers to no avail. Funny thing is when you check the print logs on the Canon they show they job actually made it a was "OK"....any ideas?

I have a database that is "stuck" printing to PDF. I have a series of script steps that go to a layout, set the page setup (no dialog) & then print (no dialog). With the "no dialog" option selected, the DB creates a PDF titled zzzzz.pdf for every single print script step. If I deselect the "no dialog"option of the print script step, I can click the print button in the resulting print dialog box and the job is sent to the print driver no problem. I know I'm the swifty that set the DB to us the zzzzz.pdf file name, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to set the default back to the print driver. Any thoughts? Interesting problem cropped up today trying to print a standard form letter. Print setup has no effect. I set for letter size, preview mode shows an 8.5 x 3.5 piece, cutting my page into three parts, and it prints that way. No setting will change it. It's probably not the printer driver, since Word & other programs print just fine. Restart, no luck... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Jim

We have a contacts database of company employees that we print in a layout using sub summaries for each department. Each department has differing numbers of employees. Our printed layout has leading department summaries, then a list of all the employees underneath. We'd like to prevent the layout printing a department summary on the last line (or nearly last line) of one page, and then having many (or all) of the records of employees printing on the next page (now without a leading summary). Is it possible to specify where Page Breaks occur beyond the set of options available in 'Part Definition'? Is it possible to have the sub-summary repeated at the top…

Can anyone throw some light on this before I go insaner? I have a print layout with a sub-summary (before) used as a sub-heading, followed by detail records. Really unique! The detail consists of name and address lines - the usual stuff. All sliding up and left. The sub-heading need not be present. When the sub-heading is present, there is a gap between the name (the first field) and the first address line. This gap is about the equivalent of a line. The rest of the address is spaced correctly. I have a multi-column portal in a layout and would like the right most column to be grey. At the moment, it only makes the rows grey that have data in them and that is messing up the look. Is there any way to format and display specific rows that don't have data in them? Thanks

I have one layout with a Title Header, Header, Body, Footer and Title Footer. The Body is set up in "List View" so I can print multiple records (a list) that expands across pages if necessary. In the Title Header I have a bunch of Merge Fields explaining the who's, what's, where's, when's and why's. In the Header I have column headings in text which correspond to the contents of the Body . The Body uses Merge Fields to portray information from the records. How do I stop page breaks within a part and start it the next part on the next page instead? The report is multiple heirarchal sub-summaries of varying lengths so page break after __occurances is not the best solution. Also need it to keep the whole part together (i.e. - can't discard rest of part) Each category has multiple sub-summaries and not always the same quantity. Report looks like... Since installing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, there is a 10 second delay every time I click print before the Print dialogue box appears. I suspected Windows Firewall settings, so disabled Windows firewall (have a hardware one anyway). Also uninstalled Filemaker completely then reinstalled it and ran the updater to FM Pro 7.0v3 but the problem remains. The database is on a separate computer on the LAN running FM Server 7. All other computers in the office that are still Win XP SP1 or Win 2000 don't have the delay printing. One other computer in the office has SP2 and it also has a delay. Hi, I have a solution, in which all layouts (over 50) are made for 1024x768 resolution. Most layouts are packed with fields, pretty much filling the whole width of the layouts. Now I'm trying to figure out a way to print these layouts also on portrait-oriented A4 (for which the layouts are way too wide), but without creating a narrower copy of each layout for printing. Is there any way to make too wide layouts to fit in a spesified page size? Any ideas are greatly appreciated, JariV

Hi, I have a simple issue - I want to print a letter that may or may not run onto more than one page. I don't use a header or footer and I use a single "Content" field for the text of the letter. Rather than obtain an answer to this specific approach, I would like to know what is the recognised approach for printing variable-length documents, without printing blank pages if you specify print "All" on the print settings. I don't want to continually have to specify how many pages I want to print out after I've modified the letter. Thanks.

I've come across several unusual printing problems, but this one has me scratching my head. Here is the situation - I've got one layout I'm trying to print. The layout is only viewable as a Form, it's about 7 pages long, with fixed 1/2 inch margins all around. It only contains a body and no other parts.
