  1. I have a problem occur today with my filemaker database. The system is networked and while two of us were modifying/viewing records, my colleague was copy/pasting data from one record to another using command c and command v. I have successfully copied and pasted from one record to another in the past but this time when she pasted into one record it pasted the data into the field in all records. I have never seen this before without a script and since she left the field not knowing what happened there is no option to undo. We have a backed up version from the day before but I'm more interested in knowing why and how this happened, so it doesn't happen again. Any advice/su…

  4. Hi Everybody... First I need to tell FM is awesome!... i'm been programmer for more than 10 years and this tool is amazing and a "time-saver"... I developed my first database app for a client but I have a question. I have my FileMaker Pro 12 in my Mac and I want to generate a package (as developer) and distribute this with my client. The questions is, if I open that "generated package" each database are different but I want to install a main database (in the same network) and install the application in other computers that connect to the "Server" database. I don't know what I need. (I have packages for MAC and Windows)... I tried several things bu…

So needs some help please..... So in my FM data base I want to enter in our job number and have it look up information from our ERP system and populate some basic information like; Customer Name CSR SalesPerson ETC. (Based on us putting in the job number.) Although I'm not sure how putting in number and having it populate multiple other fields is the trick? Most information is looked up via ODBC data connection via OpenJob table. However in OpenJob I have customer# and will need to link our Customer table to OpenJob to get the Name of the Customer. Can someone help please?? Example Table: OpenJob - IN ERP JobN-99999 Customer Numbe…

  6. Hi there, 1. On first Import (its XML but thats not important), fields are matched in the import, creating the entries (all with unique IDs). 2. Now I want to import again, this time the XML contains additional entries BUT also the entries from the first import (additional IDs). 3. How do I import only the additional entries without overwriting any records that are already in the DB? Just give me some basic idea on how to accomplish this... Thanks in advance Lars

I have a multi-file solution in FM11 that I am trying to convert to FM12. I want to change the file names in FM12 to reflect a new release of my software as well as the fact that it is using FM12. For example, files names in FM 11 were 'xx4v11xx' reflecting release 4 of my software using the FM 11 platform. I want the files in FM12 to have names like 'xx5v12xx'. What is the procedure to do this? All attempts to get to new names in FM12 have so far have failed to convert the relationships resulting in 'field not found' for any relationship that has tables in different files.

Hi All, I have turned to the forum once again due to the high experience and wealth of knowledge to guide me through yet another turbulent time... I have now created three DB's for various aspects of my business. I have just discovered that there is a "Startup Page". Maybe next time I will fully check out the system before I jump in and create the files....I was wondering if I can get your help in trying to create a page that incorporates all three DB's. Is that at all possible. My attempts have resulted in scrambled eggs mauled by a bull mastiff after it has been starved for a week. (nice image but I think you get the point). Thanks in advance for all c…

  9. Hello, I'm trying to set up a virtual list, similar to what's described here http://fmforums.com/...virtual-tables/. I've got a separate table set up for the virtual list, and have a script that populates a global variable $$REPORTVALUES. For some reason, my calculation fields in the virtual list table will not evaluate $$REPORTVALUES or any other global variable. I don't know if this is something I'm setting up wrong, or something peculiar to FMP12. I've tried setting the values field to evaluate other global variables, but still no luck. I've attached screen caps. Thanks, Tom

I would like to share with this forum some benchmarking results, between Filemaker 12 and Filemaker 11. And if possible to confirm this conclusions with other FM 12 users. Scenario: Hardware: Core i7, L620, 2GHz, 8Gb RAM. OS: Windows 7 PRO 64bits File: One layout, 180 fields, 1 script with 178 variables. Test scenario: Run the script, with script debugger and Data Viewer (current tab) opened, showing 10 lines. Results: With FM11, using the Step Into shortcut key (F6), I finish this test in 1:52 (one minute and 52 seconds). After convert the main file to the new FM 12 format, I did the same test: With FM12, using the Step Into shortcut key (F6), …

I may be dumb but FM has discontinued sales of version 11, right? That means if I have, say, ten clients working on a database hosted by a version 10 server and they want to add 5 more clients, the only way to do that is to pay for the upgrades of those ten clients to version 12, pay for the server upgrade, pay for 5 more v12 clients (which they'd do anyhow but still) and on top of that convert their database and pray it all goes well? And that is more or less doable, but what i have several companies like the aforementioned one working on a single server? Am I going to be forced to upgrade ALL of them just because one company wanted to add a single client?! Thi…

I've just installed FM-12 Advanced, only to read that it suggests (requires?) converting my FM-11 files to FM-12. Does this mean that my five other users, using FM-11 to enter input to my FM files would have to be upgraded to FM-12 in order to access the converted FM-12 files?

Today we installed FMSA 12 in combination with FMPA 12. It appears that extensive scrips in our solution run about 25% longer than in FMSA 11 and FMPA 11. For instance: 2 minutes in FMSA/FMPA 11 becomes 2 minutes 30 secons in FMSA/FMPA 12. Do you recognize this?

  15. Having done some testing with a solution converted to 12, I've started to see that I wasn't getting the 1st record under my scripts to import from .csv files. I looked back at how 11 was set up for the import and found the dialogue that asks if the 1st row is data or not. In 11 and before, you could check one or the other. Then I looked for this dialogue in the same import scripts under 12 and could not find the dialogue. In its absence, FM12 always treats the 1st record as a label, and not data. Is this just an outright bug, or is there some other way the imports have to be configured in FM12?

I'v got Filemaker 10, 11 Adv and 12 Adv. is there any way at all to have my files sync in real time on a 3G network (no WIFI because that is working for me.) It seems to me that the only way this is possible is to get FileMaker Server, is that true. I've got a Static IP Address on my Home Computer and I got Filemaker Go 11 and 12 on my IPhone. Any way at all that I can do changes to my database on the road (out of WIFI range) and that it would sync automaticly on my home computer in real time?? Please help. Thanks

Hi, Forum! My company uses FileMaker Pro and Server as our basic Database for operations. Our database is pretty huge. It holds over 40 files, and each of them is up to 4.5GB at most. Most of them have relationships each other. It's running under FileMaker Server 11 with PC, which has 2 x 3GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon, and 12GB 667MHz DDR2. Every morning, we run the script that does import, calculate, and bunch of field sets. It takes about 2 hours straight. If I could make it shorter with 12, I'd like to switch to FileMaker Pro12 and Server12. Do you guys think that it gets shorter?? According to its press release, FileMaker12 officially suppo…

I was getting some very strange behavior from FileMaker 12, and didn't notice that several of the plug-ins I had for FileMaker Pro 11 started up with the installations of FileMaker Pro 12. Uninstalling the plug-ins seems to have cured the problem. Lee

  21. I set up a shortcut each of my FM clients desktops to open a file hosted by FMS11. I've just upgraded to FM12 and was wondering if anyone knew the shortcut extension required to make it work. this was the old one fmp7://192.168.0.2/mydatabase.fp7 I've tried changing the '7' to '12' but this doen't work. any ideas welcome

OK, just to clear up some evident confusion. Version 12 products have a new file format. This is the case for FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Server, and FileMaker GO. The new versions do not host or open files from older versions (.fp7 files). The old versions do not host or open the new files (.fmp12 files). There is no compatibility across the two file formats: .fp7 and .fmp12. Older version formats must be converted using FIleMaker Pro. Steven
