    Thanks for reading my dilemma! Im trying to make a list of clients who visited my office this last year. I have a log of test done for my clients, but some clients might come in 5 to 10 times in a week. So I want to find all clients that I've tested but only have one occurrence not duplicates, if I omit duplicates this takes out every occurrence. I hope this make's some scent's, any post would be most helpful. Thanks for your help!!!

    I have layout which contains a listview of names I put some buttons at the top like a phone book and added a find [A] for the A button, find for B button and so on. I noticed that when I click the 'A' button, it finds not only names that begin with A, but names that have an A anywhere in the field. I really want to only find the names that Begin with A. in Perl it's ^A I looked through the online help of filemaker, but did not see any mention of how to specify 'begins' with A Regarding the approach above, is there an easier way to do this button / phone book lookup letter approach?   6. I am building a small database that tracks tools that require calibration. I made a field called "Calibration Due" that contains a manually entered date when the calibration expires. I want to generate a report (at the click of a button, script) that will give me a list of tools that will expire in the next 30 days. I can't figure out how to do the "find" and save it as a script.     hello world, i'm using the built in script "Perform Find[]" to find matching records. When No records are found, it pops-up a window have 3 buttons: Cancel, continue, and modify find. IF I click on modify find button in the pop-up window, AND click on some other buttons, it doesn't let me do, because the "Perform Find[]" scipt hasn't finish excecuting yet. Is there a way to go around it? Thanks

    I did something I've always done: Create a new field, specify as a Radial button (Yes/No), add it to a layout that is Viewed as a List. I want to run a Find routine (show me all those entires marked "Yes"). I've done this numerous times. For some reason, tonight, FMpro7 simply doesn't want to find it. It just says "No matters" found. First that came up in Script, so I went to the Find manually. I see the row in Find mode. I click the "Yes" radial button option. I execute the find. Nothing.     I am a long time Filemaker user, but I only recently started using it for my business. I am using a mailing list which has a field that contains a date in the form of 08272005, 10152005 etc. Even though I have defined the field containing this information a a date field, I cannot sort or search that field. If I try to search for all the 2005 dates in that field I get a message saying "the value of the field must be a valid date in the range of years 1 to 4000 and should look like "12/25/2003". Is there a way to convert from the format I have without slashes to that? Or make FM understand the format I have?

    Ok - I give up. How do you do a find a range in a timestamp field? I want to find all records in a table that have been created today. So I switch to Find mode and enter a range in the CreateTimeStamp field. Voila - nothing. I've typed in every combination of things that seem to work in other fields but I either get nothing or a bunch of records that were created anytime from today to months ago (not all records mind you, just some).

    I am fairly new to FM7 and have inherited a database with about 2000 clients in in. There are 6 tables with varoius info on each of the clients. On the last table of ID numbers there are about 500 duplicate records - somehow?! How do I delete these records without deleting the original clients too? Please can you explain very simply.

    Hi again, I have a solution that I would like to hide the status area from my users to minimize any problems that may occur. My problem is that I would like them to be able to perform a find using the omit button. Is there some other place to do this. i have a find script but how do I place the option of omitting in it? or is there a keyboard stroke or is it anywhere else but in the status area? When I execute the find it shows that some of these customers have had more than one estimate during this time. In this case I need to show the last estimate for the customer.     OK, so I am probably making this harder than it should be, but here is the scenario. I have a button called, "affiliate": when you click this button it is supposed to search all the records within the table for all exact matches of the affiliate under the "affialates" field. For example, I am on record #33526 and the affiliates field is eg. "Pizza Hut" (The one in your hometown for an address). When I click the affiliate button, i want to do a find for all the "Pizza Huts" in my database and return them in a table view? How do i do this?     I know this should be a simple one but my brain has frozen! I am trying to script a find to find records in a table where the field data is in multiples of 3 letters (not counting spaces)... so AAA BBB CCC or AAABBBCCC would be fine. But AA BBBCCC would not be returned. Here's the deal: I have two related databases, one called TOURS contains all my customer records, the other one called HOTELS contains 15 different hotels that I use on a trip. Now I perform a search for participants on a certain trip. Everything works fine and the found records from TOURS show up in the file HOTELS.     I am having trouble when performing finds in our email field. What is happeing is that I usually have an email in lowercase to search with and some of the data has uppercase. This makes it hard to search since email address is the one field I always use to perform a search. Is there any way to make it find both cases with one search? tia Joshua P.s.     All, I need to generate a report for the Computer Operations Center and have gotten everything to work with the Start Date and End Dates, but now I need to have the Operators print a report with events that they either Opened or Closed during their shift. I have gotten it to work when I enter their name in either the field "gt_op_on_duty" (the person who entered the call) or in field "gt_op_clos_call" (who closed the call) but what I need is an OR statement, matching any records that has them Entering the call or closing the call.     I have a layout with a parent file (Customer with ID#) and a child (customer staff) file in a portal (related by Customer ID#). I want to be able to click on button and open a new layout with a different child (actions) file (#2, related by Customer ID#) and create a new child record in child file #2.   31. I have a DB that adds start time and end time.The result is elapsed time for a bike race. There are 8 races in the series thus the fields repeat 8 times. I get my results by showing the info on a layout that finds the catagory, class, and sorts descending. If I wanted this script to only show the result of a certian race in the series how could I only get the result from a certain race in the series?

    I am trying to write a script that will find records based on a field. Right now I have a loop setup that checks each record and omits or passes it. Can't this be done by putting a "find" in the script? I just want to say find records where Field x = Field y but when I go to script the find, it looks like I can only make it find where Field x = something I manually type in.     Dear All, I have searched for this in the Forum and have also found some solutions but it was for fmp7 and I guess I can't use the same syntax for my script in fmp5. Here's what I'd like to do: at opening of the databse I want to assign a script (at edit/prefs/document...) that runs and finds the birthday of somebody - but one day before his actual birthday, so I can send him a card or email etc. I have tried to calculate my field DOB in the script, set field to ... etc etc but haven't gotten to the proper syntax - I give up!     We are having issues with a few of our databases. We have a "Date Paid" field that is manually entered. The field is formatted as a date field, indexed, and must have a 4-digit year. Certain dates will not be sorted correctly or found. Example: a record contains a 'date paid' field as 11/22/2004 - it is not found when doing a find and when sorted it ends up towards the end of the sort when there are dates that are chronologically after it. The dates are entered correctly. Please help!

    Hi, I've a layout in which a pop-up menu resides, displaying field values taken from table A. When one chooses an item in the menu, one has to click on a "Search" button to display a new layout in which records of table A a displayed, based on the value selected in the menu. The script launched when one clicks the button is: Perform Find[] Goto Layout["abc" (prout)] It works correctly for the vast majority of the records, but when one selects, say, the value "x z" in the menu, clicking "search" displays not only "x z", but also "xy z", "xyy z", etc. This is not my goal, I'd like that only "x z" be displayed.     I have a database listing contents of various magazines and books. Each entry is listed in a repeating field with 200 repetitions (probably not the best way to have set this up). When doing a find, the records come back but the search test is not hilighted, forcing me to read every entry. A major PITA. There must be a better way. It occured to me that some kind of a lookup via relationships would be the way to go, but I need some advice as to how to get started. The manual isn't much help on this subject. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi, I'm quite sure this has probably been asked before, but I cant find it by searching, so I'll ask anyway. I just need to know if there is a script step that will allow me to put a couple of buttons on a layout which will perform the function of the book on the toolbar. I plan to hide that in my final solution. There is only one place where I want users to be able to flip through search results.

  52. I am trying to set up a portal filter where the user can select a particular value out of a drop-down list or choose "All". If they choose "All" I want the filter to return the related records for every value in the drop down. For example - Drop-Down List values - 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, All I might choose 107 in which case it would return only those records with 107.     Hello, I have searched for an answer to my problem in the archives, but haven't quite found a solution, or else I just can't see it. I need to find the most recent contact date for a given Client and generate a warning if they haven't been contacted in more than 30 days. For example, ClientA was contacted 9/1/2004, 10/1/2004, and 11/1/2004, but not since. I need to grab the 11/1/2004 to use for the warning calculation and have a "Client hasn't been contacted in 30 or more days" warning show up on the client's record.     I have a field "VIN" that contains "*&*" and "*" types of data. say if I do a search for "1GC&G39R" it will show up...great but if I do a search for "1GC5G39R" it will not find anything. How can I tell the database to look for both types and just display the relevant variables i.e "1GC&G39R" and not all those records which have an "&" in them. without reinputting the data myself thanks

    I am using the example in the filemaker book about using XML script parameters with the custom function GetParamXML to retrieve them. I am currently trying to make a button that will add a record to a join table, and I want to check to see if the record already exists in the table before I add it. The way I am currently trying to do it, I am doing a perform find where the id of the record matches the parameter passed to the script. The only problem is, I don't think that "Perform Find" allows calculations in the criteria field. So I guess my question is, how the heck do I do a simple search with data passed from a script parameter?

    I'm running a script that compares the "looking for" data (a teacher's name) to 10 different fields in a record, and, via a loop, across all the records. When the appropriate records are found, it displays some related data for the found teacher. Until recently I believe it has been working correctly. The field is a calculation - Writer 1 Name & " " & Writer 2 Name & " " & Writer 3 Name & " " & Writer 4 Name & " " & Writer 5 Name & " " & Writer 6 Name & " " & Chair Name I want to be able to search on any of the writer's names but the fist time I try the search I always get a message saying that there is no valid criteria in the request - when I modify the find by typing in the exact same thing the results come up perfectly. Any suggestions? R

    I have a script that does the following: - show all records - sort by date (so most current date is last) - go to last record and date field Now, based on the contents of that date field, I want to do a second FIND to return all records with that date. (The reason... sometimes we do our billing and need to unmark the most current billing print date for various reasons. I want to find all records that are under the age of 18 that also have information (non-blank value) in another field. I type in (field names in parenthesis): (File Number) = (Age): >17 Click -> Omit Record Click -> Find ------------------------------ I get 2745 records with that search. When I search for JUST file numbers that aren't blank, I only get around 1000. Therefore I must be getting the blank file numbers plus EVERYONE who is >17 years.     Using fm7 dev on OSX and Win XP. Has anyone been unable to find a record by searching by it's primary key but able to find the record when doing a find all? I have atleast one record doing this to me, I can find others, but atleast one will not show up for me at all. This is being used in a invoice with line items situation, when i go into the line items file, I can't find the line item records by useing the invoice id either. My find scripts are simply to jump to a different layout where the fields have a yellow background, and a button that runs perform find is all. Can't think that anything goofy is going on.   73. Here is my problem. I am creating a system of accounting statments. From each statement a specific amount is held back for 1 year and then liquidated. I am trying to figure out a way to look up the old statements and fill in the liquidation amount 1 year later. For example: Statement 1 - Date 1/1/2003 - $100 held for liquidation Statement 2 - Date 1/1/2004 - Need to have automatic lookup to 1 year previous and plug in $100 Any suggestions? However, I can't find a way to Resume the script after the 'Enter Find Mode (Pause) step which allows the user to enter their Find requests. On the web, the Enter and Return keys simply add a carriage return after the entered text, and since the Status Area is hidden, there is no access to the 'Continue' or 'Submit' buttons.     I have a problem where when I search using a date I get a "no records match this set of find requests" error. I am searching an invoice date field that is populated on creation and is indexed. In browse mode the date looks like 1/13/2005 and if I search in that exact same format it works fine. But if I type in 01/15/2005 it doesn't find the record.     Hi. I would like to have a Find button on my solution that will prefrom a find, that will NOT look at the previous found set. For example the first time a ran a find on all new records I typed in "first name" in that field & it found that record, however the next time I did a find it didnt give me an option to type in a frist name, it just fount the record from the 1ast time I used find. I have a field in 'Invoices' called 'Invoice Amount' for the $ of each invoice and one called 'Sum of Invoice Amounts' which is a simple total summary of the invoice $.     Hello all, I have created a search page in my database with the necessary fields for the user to search. One of the fields on the page requires the ability to exclude any files that have matching criteria. All the other fields need to look for exact matches. The exclusion field is a checkbox set, i want to program this so that if any of the checkboxes are selected, any files with matching ones will be excluded in the find results.     I have little problem when specifiying find requests to omit records on a found set. In the Specified Find Requests dialog box, I can easily input the field to match a specific number, literal text and all that jazz. What I need to do is have the cirteria be field data from a global field (that changes now and then). Ive tried every combination I can think of and it doesnt work.
