I am in need of having "," data separators converted to "^" and without quotations. Sample (1)... data exported using .bas 28017,"NY","01/01/2004",400003,"0","1000",,,"5.0 Sample (2)... data needed for validation tool (win) using .txt 28017^NY^20040101^400003^0^1000^^^5.0^ Forgive me, but I have forgotten the term for the character or separator "^". The date format is easy to modify and achieve the same result, but I don't have a clue how to accomplish the conversion of separators. Thoughts are deeply appreciated.[color:brown]

I'm trying to come to grips with parsing comma delimited text in a global field to populate a record. I understand the basic concept - locate the marker (,) and extract the text after it and place it in the proper field (at least I THINK that's the general idea). My Question - the data to be parsed will vary in the number of items to store. The fields will always be the same; section, Fname, Lname, and School but there will be from one to 20 records in each. How do I provide for that in my parsing script? Also, if anyone can point me towards a tutorial in parsing text I'd appreciate it. Thanks Tom Street

Hello, I apologize if this question has been asked previously (I was unable to find solutions by searching through the Forum). I have just been given a task to re-create and merge multiple databases. I have never used FileMaker Pro until this point (and quite frankly never worked with databases). These databases contain multiple extensive calculations and data fields. Is it possible to somehow transfer those fields complete with calculation information over to my new database? Has anyone else noticed the crappy and sometimes fickle performance you get when you do an import with update. I have a solution whereby I need to import records from an ODBC source and the import must update existing records (one match field) in the database. These imports are in the order of 30,000 plus records and the "Records Remaing" indicator counts down one record at a time. At other times when importing the exact same records the "Records Remaining" indicator counts down by hundreds sometimes thousands of records at a time. This is so frustrating. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening.

Simply put, I'm trying to capture formatted text data and save it in Filemaker so it can be viewed later. Its a travel approval database where travel requests can be submitted and approved electronically. When our travel dept. books a reservation they will put the 6-digit reservation code (issued by the airline reservation system) into the record. At this point I can build a URL around that 6 digit number and display the itinerary and invoicing on a web page provided by our affiliated travel agency. Hi, Where i work people use a lot of CDs for the projects that we have. I am trying to create a catalog of the CDs in filemaker. What i don't know is how could i represent the directory tree (files in dirs don't matter) in filemaker, without having to type in, in seperate filds the dirs and sub dirs, etc. If u have any idea please point me in that direction. I'm not sure if this question belongs here or not. But anyway, i have one file called main.fm7 that contains all the data / layouts and logic. Then i have a second file called help.fm7 that conatinas all the help texts and info. I wan't to be able to have a script in main.fm7 that with the help of a scriptparameter (that shows what the user clicked on and want help with) finds and displays the correct helptext from help.fm7. I need to script exporting the contents of a single text field as simple ASCII to file. Instead the "Export Field Contents" script step exports the field data as double-byte UNICODE which causes a problem. Any way to get around this??

Hello this maybe very simple but I looked and didn't see any body with similar comment. I have a simple conversion table that I want to bring into a FM7 app, but can't figure out why I can't import it. Table description, simple x-y table (time is vertical (200 timeslices) & raw # is horizontal (75 raw#)) the contents of the table are the converted data. I would use the formula but I don't have it. Can I just import the table using the first column as a field, the first row as a field and match up the table elements accordingly? I have been fighting with Excel & FM7 to import via XML, XLS & CSV but must be missing something. Thanks

I created 3 interrelated DBs using Windows XP (FP 6)for a friend who has a Mac...I've copied the files on CD Rom so she can put them on her computer and use them to update, etc. No matter what we tried, the files remained "locked" when we put them on her Mac... have done the password thing, given full permissions, have clicked off the Read only, have tried to network (she was able to read and use files while networked, but not when she copied them over to her computer). I'm going crazy. I have been developing a script that imports a comma-separated text file. The import had been working, I saved a version of the file, and I continued working on processing the imported data. When testing, I started getting 729 errors, "Errors occurred during import. Records could not be imported". I've recreated the .txt file, modified the import script step, tried a direct file import, re-installed my developer 7 program, went back to the 'good' version of the file that had worked, created the text file as tab-separated to try importing it as tab-separated text, and anything else I could think of. I need to export a Filemaker Pro 5.5/6.0 database that contains several repeating fields, perform some text conversion and then reimport back into a Filemaker Pro 7 database. Exporting as an XML file seems to retain the repeating field data, but when I import the XML file back into Filemaker only the first occurrence is imported and the other repetitions ignored. What am I doing wrong? Maybe there is an alternative solution to deal with repeating fields?

I think I have some corruption in my DB and I want to try Exporting out and importing into a clone. I have 3 questions. On the Export I plan on exporting to a .mer file should I check the use checkbox that says "Apply current layouts data formating to exported data"? On the Import should I use the checkbox that does the autoenter functions? Is there anything else that I need to be aware of?

I am having problems with how the Lending Library template is dealing with imported data - specifically with names. If the data (first name/last name) is input into the proper fields via the keyboard, there is not problem displaying the full name of the contact who has checked out the material.(In the Form View-History layout) When I import in the name (in the correct fields - first/last) the materials will be checked out, but it will not display the name of the contact. I have tried using different file types in the exported file with the same results. Any ideas of what the problem might be?? FM 7.0v3

how do I export filemaker 5.5 into excel

I basically exported the most important records and relationships from an old COBOL database into a tab delimited file using a set of perl scripts. The data imports into the FM database just fine, however, some small glitches seem to show up here and there. The most annoying so far is that value list fields that draw on a simple join table relationship shows until I actually go to the layout which shows shows that the relationship exists via portal. Then when I return to the other layout which hosts the value lists, suddenly the list is populated just fine. Am I missing a step? Do I have to reindex or something when importing huge amounts of data?

Hello all, I'm running a multiuser FM database on Windows XP & 2K with many remote users. The remote users access the database using Terminal Services. We have the Terminal Server machine locked down pretty tight for obvious reasons so users can't just create files anywhere they want. I have created a script that does a simple export of the found set to a specific folder "c:fmprofile.dbf" and then opens the file that was just created with Excel. This works fine when using a local copy of FM but when running on the Terminal Server that folder is not open to everyone with read and write access. I have created a new FMPro7 db that is an enhanced version of an existing FMPro7 db. The fields have been renamed and rearranged in the new db. I am trying to migrate the old db records over to the new db using the export/import feature. In the old db I do a File>>Export (have tried to a .csv, fm7). Then in the new db I do a File>>Import using that exported file data. I have a script that sets the contents of a global field with the values of many fields and records separated with a tab. I had to paste a tab from a text editor between " " to work. This global is then used as the contents of an email where the recipient simply has to paste the entire contents into excel and the tabs magically separate the values into the correct cells. You may also want to know that we always know the database platform they use prior to our shipping our solution if that's helpfull. I have to figure a way for them to easily import their data into our FileMaker solution. Some will do so daily, others once a week. Hello. I am working with a Filemaker application which stores image records in .fp5 files. I'm trying to figure out a way to export image data to external files, using another field value for filenames. From what I've read so far in various forums here, ExportFM seems like the most suitable option. Ultimately, my plan is to script the export, resize (using Photoshop) and upload of these images for web use. The last two I've done before, but I'm pretty new to Filemaker. Trying to find a way to Email a quotation from my database. Creating the email using the Send Email script step and then getting the basic fields is no problem. The issue is how to retrieve the "items" of the quote from a related table using a calculation so it appears in the body of the email during the script step. I have a bunch of data in a FileMaker 7 database. I'd like to be able to find the record I want in FM, run a script, and export a single record to an Access table on the fly. Actual using tiger 10.4.1: I opened up template document library. In the container "file" I cannot put anything in it. When I click import file it doesn't work. When I go to insert on the top menu they are all grayed out. How can I get my audio file in and what format should I use? I have created a calc field the formats data to export to a VCF file. The calc field gets all the data exactly how I want it with returns. I viewed it in a another look up field to see if the data format stayed when moved to a non calc field and works great. If I copy and paste the data to another program, keeps the returns perfect. I just got v7.3 and it still didn't help. I'm trying to import data from a small .fp7 file into a runtime solution that authorizes the use of the solution. Problem is not all of the data is getting imported. the script calls for addrecords/matching names. If done manually it seems that selecting the matching names option twice activates all of the matching fields, whereas selecting once leaves a few unmatched. Hello I have a FM Catalog on my IBook containing 3000 pictures (JPG are not embedded - FM only stores the file path and name in the catalogue) . The size of the Data Base is 800 MBytes (meaning it doesn't fit on a single CD). I would like to export that Data Base to my other MAC. Having simply copied one by one the files of the FM folder Data Base and of course the "pictures JPG objects" to the other Mac, FM doesn't retrieve the pictures on the target Mac . I suspect that the path names of pointers to the JPG files are not the same when moved... Hi, I have a problem when I try to import data from a file. I dont know why, but when I execute a script that performs a Import instruction, the import tries to import the entire data set even when I manually omited many records in the source file. Im working with FM7 and FM server 7 in Windows XP. This only happen when FM server is running, when I open the files directly with FM 7 pro works fine. What could be the problem? Thanks Mauricio

Hey there. New user to FM7 and FMForums and need a bit of help. We have inherited a database that has a field defined as Text[10] with a maximum of 10 repeating values. When we export this database, each of the values in this repeating field appear with no spaces between them. Example: Fires Winnipeg Exports as "FIRESWINNIPEG", which is not helpful to us at all. I am using FM6 on Windows XP. I want to run a scheduled script once each day to export records from FM in csv format, and then upload the csv file via ftp. I have a script in FM to do the export, but is there any way to make it automatically run at a set time each day, and then ftp the csv file? I'm trying to write a simple script that will import records from an external file into a table in a second file. Originally, I wanted to "call" the script in the external that found the appropriate set of records before doing the import, but kept getting program termination errors, so eliminated that step, hoping that was the problem. Hello, I would like to make a button that will insert a picture, into a container field, a button that will save the picture from the container field, and one that would open the picture in the container field. You can do all of these by right clicking on a container field, but I can't find a place to make a button for these. *Correction* you can't open the file from the container field. Is it possible to export only the related records of a found set? The only means I found is to (1) copy the DB. (2) Then delete the omitted records of the found set. (3) Then export all records of each table. It seems in FM 7 the information is there. When a relationships established it allows you to delete all related records via that relationship but I see no means to export the same. Very likely I am missing something. Can this be scripted? Who can help me? I have to import a .CSV file which has a date on each record. The Date is in a US format but I have to change it to a European format ie "01/01/2005" the format could be "1/1/05 or 12/12/05". I was thinking of changing by saying Left charachters but I can not do this as there are sometimes one number for date sometimes two there are no leading zeros. How do I work around this problem? FMP7 Wizards, I would like to be able to import all of the tables, fields, and relationships from one FMP7 file to another without importing the records. Is there a quick way to recreate a database architecture in this way in FMP7?? The only way I have found to do this is to have a current found set include only one record, then export that single record. That will only export one table at a time, including its respective fields. But, on import, I can't seem to specify which table the records are imported to. I will be putting pdf forms on the web. When a user fills out a form, I want the data that has been entered into each field of the pdf to go into a Filemaker table that has corresponding fields. Note that I do not want to put a copy of the pdf into a FMP container -- instead, I want the data that has been entered into each field of the pdf (for example a field that holds the user's last name) and store that information (in the current example, the user's last name) into a FMP table field for the last name, and so on for each field of the pdf document. When a patient is discharged the the records are purged from the main data base, which include item such as evaluations. daily notes , charge items, and memos for a given patient. Dear All, I have a No1.fp5 file which at opening performs a script that imports records from another No2.fp5 file. Inside the import mask I have entered all the fields from No2.fp5 that shall match with the fields from No1.fp5 So far so good - it works, but as soon as I add another field to the importing file it messes up almost all my created matches. Does anybody know why that happens?? I have spent several hours so far to recreate all my matches and fear it might happen again as soon as I add or delete any fields in my importing file. I am trying to upgrade multiple instances of the same DB with a new version of the DB (improved scripts, layouts, etc.). I added a script to each DB instance which allows me to export all relevant tables from the existing DBs. I can then start the new DB version (blank) and import the tables/data back. As I cannot dynamically assign file names to the exported tables and I don't want to have to change the export/import file references manually, I decided to export all tables to a folder with the static name 'export' and therefore I can reference the same path for the import. Hi - I'm trying to setup a scripty that allows me to import data from another FM DB, but I want to be able to specifcy the file name/reference dynamically, i.e. I'd like to store the file name/ref in a field. I have searched various forums and found many suggestions for importing images, text files, etc, but none relating to importing another FM DB. I have played around with my FM7 but so far no luck. For example, I tried to use XML import by specifiying the file name in the calculation field but it keeps saying it couldn't open the file "file:foo.xml". Cheers, Michael

I am using FMP6 on both Mac (x, 10.3.9) and Windows (2KPro) to import data from an external csv file. The file is open for update permanently by an external application. The Mac version of FMP6 has no trouble in opening the file 'read-only' and retrieving records. The Win version reports that the file is in use or locked. The Win problem does not appear to be machine or net user permissions; for example, WinWord can open the same file without difficulty, simply advising that it is read-only, which is to be expected. I have tested from the Mac by copying the target file to both Mac and PC, then trying to get FM to open it under varying conditions of file use/status. …

Hello all, I'm well underway adapting iSolutions' ClientTracker to my needs. I am having a problem, though, with calculated fields not populating on import. For instance, I just brought in my projects table data but as I look at the results in form view, the contact information for the project that is supposed to populate from a calculated field is blank. The calculation seems valid because I new entries work just fine. Is there a way to force a calculation manually after import. OK I am new to SQL... and I think I am doing pretty well. I have a mySQL server running on Linux with a database setup and the myODBC working happily. I wrote a script which can do a insert of data from Filemaker over to the mySQL server... and it works great. Now... I can execute a SQL query - such as a SELECT blah from blah; and the SQL statement is working fine on the server... and the server is giving back to Filemaker the result... but.. what is Filemaker DOING with that result? I created a script in our shipping systems to do a dump everytime something is processed into a folder. However the file gets copied over everytime something is processed. I need to export some data from Filemaker Pro 7 and it needs to have a CR/LF at the end of each record. If I do this on a PC it works fine. On my Mac it only puts a CR at the end. Is there a way to put both the CR and LF on a Mac?

I have an application that has a Products table and a Manufacturer's table. I have the Product table's ManfID linked to the ManfID on the Manufacturer's table. In the Product layout, there is a drop down list, based on the Manufacturer's table that allows the user to select the Product's manufacturer ID. Our current database system can spit out either a single bill or multiple bills in one .xls sheet. The first field of each record is the "Master Item," followed by "Component." I created seperate databases for information, but now I want to be able to cross-reference and link different pieces of the information from one database to another. Is there a way to do this? It can't be found under import file, because the other database will not show up there. As of now, both are saved to the desktop. Hi, i have attached an xslt and sample xml. The xml file has two <recovery> elements and, when i try to import it using the xslt, i get a parsing error at the beginning of the second <recovery> element. If i remove the second <recovery>, leaving only one element, the import works. For the life of me i can't figure out why this xslt won't work for more than one element. Can anyone help me? I posted a while back regarding an import issue with FM 7v3. When attempting to split repeating data into separate records as part of an import, non-repeating data is not populated like it should be. Here's Filemaker's response regarding the bug: Is it just me, or does anyone else find downgrading to fix a bug ridiculous? At this point, I think I'd prefer to script workarounds to this issue.

I have an assignment where I am trying to autopopulate weather data from the web. When a new record is created, I want to have a field that is much like the auto-enter date where it can sit behind the scenes and be filled in. My initial thoughts is that XML data would be the easiest way to go, but unfortunately I don't know this language. NOAA has a website but when I try to import the XML data, nothing comes over. Hello everyone i was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction here. I have a customer that has been using an older datbase called Nutplus that tracked all there club members. In there Nutplus base they have always been entering the members full name in one field called "name" for example John M. Doe. I exported all there data to an excel spreadsheet and and it has one row with the persons full name. Well in the new FM base i have 3 fields "First Name" "Middle Name" and "Last Name" they have over 6,000 records. I am about to attempt moving into uncharted territory (for me anyway) and am looking for any advice that may assist. I am fairly proficient with filemaker but am entirely self taught. Hello all, I am designing an invoicing system and would like all of the data to stay within one database. First the order is taken. The it is sent to a print file. Next it is sent to an order history file and customer history file. I would like to be able to export the records from the invoices directly into a print table. Then from a print table to a order and customer history tables. Is there any way to accomplish this in Filemaker 7? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Josh

I have many Excel tables I'd like to import into an existing Filemaker 7 database, but I'd like to be able to bring in the Header row or field names from the first row of the Excel tables. I can't see any obvious way to do this, and it seems like I'll be forced to retype the name of each of 30+ field names for each table to create a blank table into which I can import the Excel file. I am importing data supplied in an xls file which works just fine in the developer version. However, using a scripted import in the runtime results in a file dialog, after selecting the file in question the following results: "filename.xls" could not be opened (Error) Any ideas gratefully recieved.

I am importing our logo into a layout for invoicing. I have tried every possible graphics format and still, when I print out the invoice, it comes jagged and low resolution, this also happens when I make a PDF of the invoice. Hi, I need to submit a html form from within FP7. It will be used to send customers data eg name, email address automatically to a web based autoresponder system. I have the HTML form code I use on the web page, but I can't figure out how to use that code and integrate it into FP7 so when I hit a 'Submit' button in FP7 it will submit the form data. The "Export Field Contents" feature that was added in version 7 is a nice feature, because there is finally a way to export data with line breaks intact. However, text field contents only export as Unicode which is incompatible with many applications. I thought that changing the field options language setting might do the trick, but no. So, some form of post processing is still required. Has anyone found a way to force the text encoding of the export text to ASCII or some other equivalent 8 bit coding?

The new system needs all of the stories exported based on the issue number. Each issue must be exported to it's own txt file. I have a text field that contains the information compiled the way it is needed for hte database, BUT how do I go about exporting the information automatically based on issue number?
