Custom Web Publishing

Interfacing FileMaker as a data source for the web.

  1. Started by ESJosh,

The ecommerce company that I work for (eSellerate) provides a mechanism where order information can be sent via an HTTP POST to a web server for immediate order notifications. The body of the POST is XML based on a schema that eSellerate defines. Is there a way to interface this with Filemaker Server 7 Advanced without the need for PHP, or am I going to have to write a PHP/WebObjects page to receive the post, translate it to the appropriate INSERT SQL call and insert the information into the DB via ODBC/JDBC? Thanks!

Hi guys I'm having trouble structuring a find request. I'm trying to return companies from our database where the first character is a number. I don't want to do 10 individual find requests so I thought of trying to use the ... range find symbol. Doing 0...9 returns companies where there's a number from 0-9 in the field somewhere. I've tried doing ==0...9* to try and return the companies where the first character of that field is a number, but with no luck. I'll also need to try and structure this find in CDML syntax as well. Any ideas on how to do this? Thanks Ben

There seems to be problems with logging out ect.. and people who use an exact match find to allow user's access (this is what we did with our 4.0 filemaker). We need a way for customers to create their own accounts to be able to create and update their own records only. This needs to be secure. Should I keep using the exact match find or use filemaker accounts? I would gladly buy a solution for this. I have toyed with using two files. One with guest access and one that requires a filmaker account that allows access to the account's records only. The problem I have with this is I have to create t…

  9. I have seen suggestions in posts and articles that it is possible to output static Web pages from FMP, but haven't found any concrete information as to how to actually go about it. I have a friend who can get around in FMP 6 on the Mac well enough to create a product catalog--a layout that contains a product name, description, item number, photo, etc. He would like to be able to output static Web pages that preserve this layout. We would then ftp those to our hosting server along with the images. One advantage he sees is being able to use the same layout for Web pages and also for paper sales sheets, the difference being that there are both low and hi-res jpeg d…

Hi I seem to have a problem making my database available on the web. I'm working with filemaker 6 on Os X panther. I've activated the web companion and activated TCP/IP port 591. In the webbrowser, the database is now available on the computer that runs the database on URL: http://127.0.0.1:591. In the LAN I can connect to the web interface on http://192.168.254.30:591/index.html Now I want to make the site available to the world... The computer that hosts the database has a static IP, so on the router I've forwarded port 591 to the LAN-IP (192.168.254.30) When I insert the adress http://www.myURL.com:591/index.html I keep getting a "Page not availa…

Ideas I could explore include: - Using a regular layout, placing fields in the body to look like a report layout, as suggested in the IWP forum - seems a good idea. - Publish and update the reports regularly as a pdf so they can be opened from the FileMaker on the web. - Install FM Pro on the PC's that need complex reports and sync data from the main server to those remote sites. In that situation, uppercase text was displayed on web pages associated with the web-hosted db WITH all the uppercase letters as entered in the source db. I'm guessing that this is an issue related to character set conversions …

I'm looking for some direction on whether it makes sense to host a 4G file in FMP 7 containing ~86 million telephone numbers (the national do not call list) and make it available as a look-up table for checking telephone numbers against it from the web using IWP. We don't seem to be having much luck. Most of the issues are due to the slowness of importing and indexing in FMP 7 and the fact that the file is so huge to work with. Any advice?

How exactly FileMaker can interact with PHP based Intranet and Internet Sites ? - uploading documents (mainly pdfs from printed FM reports) to the Intranet. - synchronization of a PHP db Can these tasks be automated from FileMaker 7 ? Is FileMaker able to generate PHP requests ? At least is it possible to fill a "form" directly from FileMaker ? Thanks

The fields that reside in the main file and have calculations using only data from that file are showing up fine but two of the fields are calculation fields that gather data from another file. When the web user submits the form the reply page returns one of the fields empty and the other displays a question mark "?" Any ideas what could be wrong? I used the CDML converter to make these files and have not touched the coding yet. Thanks in advance. steven durow

  62. Hi all. I'm trying to solve a problem that's been mentioned previously on this forum, and could use some advice. The client has a FM6 Unlimited box serving up databases using CDML. One of the databases stops responding to internet requests, though it's still open on the FM6 box. Access to the database through FM6 Unlimited somehow drops, so that a database opened with full privileges will now only have read privs. Strange. Anyway, what I gleaned from earlier posts is that what's happening is that a user will click on a page element multiple times, thereby sending new requests to web companion and interrupting the previous ones. Web companion then chokes - s…

I am using IWP to allow the users to enter the data from a web browser. I have set up an account with read/write access which allows them to see only the input layouts. The problem is, upon logging in, the users are led to one of the report layouts that they do not have access to (and hence a large <No Access> message appears on their screen). I have taken this layout off of the layout list (and it doesn't appear on the drop down list for the layouts) but it still opens up to the restricted layout. Hope that makes sense. …

I have a very small database associated with a web page. With FMP 6 and CDML everything works well except one thing. At the beginning of the page I ask them to click a box stating that they have completed and returned the necessary forms. If this box is not clicked, I want a message to come up telling them they have to click the box, and not allow them any access to the other fields until that one box is checked. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. I've tried several things, but nothing works. This would be similar, I guess, to having to click the box stating that you accept the terms of a site before you can go farther. Any clues?
