Custom Web Publishing

Hi When displaying the results of a search online using Lasso I want the results to appear three across and not singular with one record under another. The code I am currently using is the standard: [Records] [Field: Name] [Field: Thumbnail Image of Record] [/Records] If I have 75 records it will therefore return 75 rows of results. What I want is 25 rows of results with 3 results in each row. How do I set the html page/table to effect this flow across 3 columns? Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

I'm completely lost on this one and need your help again. I have a small database for tracking alumni volunteers. I need to allow, through the web, the ability to search on several fields (one at a time). I think I can set up the search page okay, it's the results page I'm confused about. I want the results to appear in a table. For example, if they do a search on "Name", then a table comes up with the first name, last name, street, city, state and zip. This is so they can see all of it on one screen instead of scrolling through. How do I lay out the results page to show this? I have a problem, that I hope someone can help me with.... I have set up a client database for our Australian based law firm. I am running IWP as well for our local intranet. The problem is that, the solicitors want to be able to access this at home, however, our server is running linux and we are using an external IT company to run our server, and they are hopeless! The server does not forward port 80 or 591. I have a repeating field set up in a detail page. it shows the data ok, but i'd really like to be able to split the repeating information into a table. I have a table with 5 columns and 2 rows. the 1st row has all the names for the columns. the second row has 1 repeating field in each of the five columns. some the the data is more in some fields than in others so the data as you read it going across the rows is staggered and difficulut to keep straight. I tried the fmp-repeatingnumber things and it made numbers but it was still not easy to read data going across the page. I can successfully view images on web page using [fmp-image], but only if image is stored in the db I am accessing. If the image is in a related db and viewed through a portal, it will not display on the web page. Other text/number fields in the portal do display. Thus: [fmp-image:mydb::image field] does not display [fmp-field:mydb::text field] does display [fmp-image:local image] also works Is this a restriction within FM that you cannot access images through portals? I'll probably end going with a custom web publish solution instead of instant, but right now I am just trying to remember how to get everything set up, so i am testing with Instant. I am using Filemaker 6 on Windows 2000, I have databases open, i have the web companion plugin enabled with instant web publishing enabled. It is a small database that lists different activities alumnae are interested in assisting with. Hi, I'm using FileMaker Pro to test locally a web site using FileMAker several database files. Web site is using CDML. There is search form which works fine when I click on the button submit (or press enter when the button has the focus) but when the focus is in text box and I hit enter I get a blank page. I tried to use javascript code to submit the form onkeypress event but I still get a blank page. I found also in error.log file the following entry: [05/Aug/2004:13:37:38 -0400] ERROR: 4. I'm using fmu 5.5 and I have a quick question about web security. I have a web database with access permissions set so that everyone enters a password when the login. I also have a web password with the browse access right set to 'Limited' - in theory limiting records with a certain text string in a field. I also use the web security db to manage security. In the web security db theres a password box to set the database password for that particular file. If in the web security db I set the password to that web password I setup in access permissions of the file, the web security db will be restricted to those permissions - eg the limited record browse. I'm trying to create an online form that would enable an interested student to enter their contact information as well as any interests that they have in the field of study. I've created the database and done everything the manual described, but everytime that I try to open the file on the web, I can access all of entries to the database. I need them to enter the material, have a conformation page, and then be redirected to an exit page of sorts. I'm really not familiar with the online capabilities of Filemaker Pro, so I would appreciate any advice.

When accessing FileMaker through its IWP interface with Firefox (9.0.1) I get a message saying it is optimised for Safari and Explorer. Does anybody know why the interface - partcularly buttons, even simple layout change buttons - do not work. They work fine in Safari and Explorer. However we use Firefox a lot because it allows online editing (a la Explorer 6 on a PC) which neither Safari or Explorer 5.2 support, and it supports our inhouse groupware application (TUTOS) better.

Here is our setup. Win2000 server with FM server 5.5 hosting aprox. 100 DBs. Webserver with FM6 unlimited. Client PCs. The webserver has the files open. When we go the a client pc and open the browser and type in the ip it goes to the default FM html page ensted of the Web DB page. Any suggestions.

I've set up a fairly simple form as my 'homepage' for filemaker. It's simply a password box for a person to enter in their password and a submit button. The submit button performs a 'Find' for all the records matching the password field. However, when you try to enter in your password and just press the 'Enter' key (keyboard), you get an Error #4: Command is unknown. This is strange, because if you click the 'Submit' button, it works fine. The 'Enter key' also will submit other forms on my site. Right now we've got a Javascript set up to disable the Enter key, but many of our users want to be able to use it. Is there any sort of work around in this case, or am …

I've got a FM database that works fine in FM but doesn't wor kwhen published to the web. I've got 2 drop down lists. 1 for Builings and 1 for Rooms. The rooms list is based on what building is selected. The Building drop down works fine but he rooms drop down dosn't udate after a room is selected. I'm looking to use ASP.NET to display data from Filemaker that will show workshops that we offer and also allow visitors to register for online. XML sounds like it may be the best solution, but I need to be able to both get and post information to the Filemaker database. The web server is currently set up using Filemaker Pro's Web Companion and Lasso WDE 3.6.5. The current solution with Lasso is slow and something faster, hopefully with ASP.NET would be great. I thought you could launch FM6 and type in an IP address under Open Remote, and connect to a shared database OUTSIDE the LAN...aka the WAN. All the manuals say "LAN." Basically, I've been using Timbuktu to connect to a database (mac to mac) and would rather figure out the firewall settings and go direct (FM6 to FM6). I've tried and no luck. Hi, I'm trying to set up a search for a large calendar database that returns records matching particular values in a status field, with date values forward of the current date. I can grab the proper status records without a problem, but getting only those forward of the current date seems impossible. At the moment I'm manually incrementing the find every week or so using -skip. I can use FMP-If to filter out prior dates on the format file itself, but I'd much prefer to do it in the initial query. Hello, I am a newbie here and so glad I found this nice place. I am working on a web page that searches a database (research articles). Inputs for a search includes author, title, abstract, etc, which are all text input. So I use "<input type="hidden" name="-Op" value="cn">" for each option. The problem is when I click "search" with no input, the search result page returns the entire database not the "error" message. Another problem is about navigation between detail record pages that are linked from the search result page. I have an online form which enters information into my FMPro 6 database. The way this is done to have the HTML files in the WEB folder of FM pro6. I just got a copy of FM Pro7 and the way I figuerd Web Publishing works here is just turning the option on. This works-- but not exactly like I want. I want the web users to see the html page only - like it was previously and not be able to see my original database at all. I tried putting the web files in the Web folder for FM Pro 7 -does not work. Please advise

This is a question for FMP 6 Unlimited using CDML. I have a 9 page form, used to populate a single record. I want the user to be able to access the pages in any order by clicking on some folder tabs. So far, I have two different thoughts, neither of which works: 1) I can make the folder tabs simple anchors, which lead to the proper page of the form. However, if I do this, the data typed on the current page will be thrown away. 2) I can make the folder tabs submit buttons, which will definitely save the data. Hi gang, We have a FM7Pro db developed by modifying one of the templates. It is accessed over the web by 2 users simultaneously (and continuously during the day). We have tried hosting on an XServe with OS X Server 10.2 then 10.3, and a different computer with OS X 10.3. Every few hours, when a user hits the submit button nothing happens. The web browser appears to be trying to connect to the server. When we try to shut down FM7Pro, it wants to send a message to the connected users, and won't let us quit the program. The only solution is to Force Quit Filemaker, and reboot the computer! It does not appear to be a code problem, since the functions work well mos…

Importing a folder of image files or QuickTime movies fails when importing as a guest of a shared database. The images do not appear to the host or other guests of the database and after closing and reopening the file, they no longer appear even to the guest who added them. Can this be resolved??? I have used Instant Web Publishing to put our multi-user database online. When I go to that Web address the default web page comes up and lists the database. However, when it is clicked on and starts loading it just never finishes or comes up. Any ideas on why this is? The size of the overall DB is 1.5MB. I have added a password to it and I have tried working with it using "remote host" and it is fine that way. Perhpas I've somehow configured it wrong? Thank you for any advice (I don't want to upgrade to 7 because it doesn't allow enough users).

Hi, I only started using FM about 2 weeks ago. I have made a really simple DB to track project info. My question is... Can I view this info online? I have tried Instant Web Publishing, and this is great over a LAN, but I need to access it from any web-enabled machine. I have used ports 591 and 8080 but when I have my DB open on my machine, a colleague in another office cannot open it in internet explorer. Hello! At the office my FM databases are hosted on an iMac running FM Server 5.5, I want to connect to them remotely. They have suggested that the best way to do it is to call my broadband provider and order a static public IP address that forwards to the private IP address assigned to the iMac. Then, when I'm away, I can simply go to "Open Remote" on my FM and enter the public address to log in to my DB. Under this scenario, I have two questions: 1. When testing a simple solution with IWP, this is to be used with Server Advanced, I get strange behavior with the GotoRecord/Request/Page script step. This step is supposed to be compatible with the web. If I insert this step into a script or try to assign it to a button and then click the Web Compatibility checkbox it inserts the following into the scrpt: GotoRecord/Request/Page [Perform with dialog(NOT COMPATIBLE):First] Which is very peculiar. I am trying to access my databases on our companys Intarnet. When I type the IP address I can get a default page, but not the databases. I am trying to use Web Companion, the preferences are set to "built-in" everything seems to be correct. I've tried port 80 and port 591. My databases are located in the Server 5.5 folder. I can access them from any PC that has Filemaker installed. I just can seem to see them online. Help! Is there some particular folder they should be in?

Could someone give me a quick laymans description for using FM Pro to create a database that posts web banners randomly? the backend would be simple (connecting the banner, business name, start and end date for banner, financial information, web link, etc... Hi, I'm trying to use the "email" capability of FileMaker but my messages keep getting lost somewhere between FileMaker and Netscape. Here is what I've checked so far: *I've checked the script and it is correct (same script works on a Mac computer). *I've checked the "Send Mail" entry in FM help. There is a [Mail] entry in my win.ini file. *SMTP is enabled. I think it's possible that I have to somehow tell FM that Netscape is my default mail application, but I can't figure out how. Hi, Anyone else experienced a problem with Filemaker 7 where buttons just don't seem to work when accessed via the web (using built in Instant Web Publishing). It has me perplexed. In my experience it is quite random, although they more often don't work than do work. I have a small solution that has been set-up to allow a single user to access it remotely. It seems that if I do a -find on my form using a text box, and if the -find does not match any records, instead of the -error page loading, FM Unlimited just unexpectedly quits. If I do a -find and it does match a record, not a problem, it continues on to the -format page. This one has me confused. I have a FM Pro 5.5 web database running on a PC and hundreds of images on a website (created in dreamweaver) on OS X running Apache. Both computers are broadcasting on an internal network. I want to be able to link the web image filename to the data in FM and display that data next to the image in a webpage. I'm right on the edge of my comfort zone here. From various discussions, I think I need to link like this: FM Pro <->ODBC<->MySQL<->PHP<->Dreamweaver Is this correct? I have already enabled MySQL and PHP on my Mac. Any comments appreciated.

I've created a web database that is accessed by about 6 users, using instant web publishing. After doing a search and retrieving x number of records, we'd like to be able to export those records to a text file for use in other applications. Is this possible from a web browser?

I know this is possible and should be fairly easy but I just can't seem to get it to work. I simply want the new_reply.htm page to show the information previously entered into the form. The page is the destination of the submit on the form page and should be referencing the page's recid, therefore, filling in any CDML tags on that page with data from the corresponding record. It just doesn't work. Is there something I need to carry over from the form itself? Something I need to add to the syntax of the submission? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I use a couple of different javascripts to validate form fields before submission to the databases (pirated, re-written, but not sophisticated). The scripts are primarily based on the individual form names, using 'IF statements' to validate the right stuff is going in the right places. I recently started using portal fields on -add and -edit forms. I am having difficulty getting the Javascripts to read the portal field names, I think this is due to the way javascript interprets the '::' (as in Relationship::Field_Name). I would prefer client-browser edits to happen before the data actually gets sent to the database. For example, if field 'A' says 'Dogs', then field 'B'…

Can anybody tell me how I can create conrtact sheet online via IWP using Thumbnails to link to the larger (form) layout? This all works very well off line via the Photo Catalog available for download from the FM web site but it's Thumbs/Contact sheet doesn't seem to work on-line. The way I'm thinking of this at the moment is to have a set of say 50 fields called image01, image02 etc. Image01 would be the result of container field image in record 1 and image02 would be the result of image in record 2 and so on,it's hardly dynamic and not the way I really want to go ahead. Is there a better way?

Hi I have a db where we (my company) input items in need for repair/service....mobile phones, computers, pda etc. In the db we change the status of the service as we handle the service-item. ie if its: Registred, Repair in progress, Shiped for external service, Finished etc. I now want the customer to be able to check over internet if theire item are ready. Hi all, Just had a weird problem. I was using a web served database, and everything was going fine. Left it for a while and then tried again from a different computer, and got a "Database not open" error. Checked the unlimited machine, and the file was still open and responding to some commands, but the Sharing option wouldn't open anything, and a whole heap of menu's were greyed out even though I'd opened the file in "God" mode. I also noticed I couldn't modify any of the existing records - typing in the field did nothing (no characters or errors). I've not played around with web publishing at all yet, but need to start thinking about learning how to. As I understand it, you need to serve your own web pages to be able to do this. Right now I just use an ISP to host my web site, and I don't have the $$ for an in-house web server, a static IP address, and the necessary bandwidth. Are there any ISPs out there that run FileMaker Server so that they could host my database? If so, what are they charging? Would it be cheaper to go this route for a while before jumping in whole hog and getting the hardware I'd need? Thanks for any advice, Dan

Not sure where this should go, but here goes: I need a way to have three columns on a web form that can be processed as line items after submission. For instance, I need a field for a list of users, one for a list of their current locations and one for their new locations. Once the form is submitted, I need to process the data like line items in a spreadsheet. Anyone have any idea how to do this? Alternatively, how easy is it to get FMP to allow a spreadsheet as an attachment and save it locally? I could just have them attach a spreadsheet that can be handled manually. Ideas? Hi Everyone, I have a problem when I try to do something on the web search for FileMaker. The customer wants to have "2 search textboxes" on one particular field. However, when i try to use "-Lop = OR" in the HTML, it seems comes up with the search of all the "OR" results for that HTML page fields. Ok, after spending six harrowing months tearing my hair out, biting my nails, walking the floor, and talking to myself incessantly, I finally managed (with a tremendous amount of assistance from this forum) to learn how to publish my web surveys using FileMaker 6 along with HTML and CDML. Now that I am comfortable with that, we have decided to upgrade to FMP 7. I realize that one can move up, but not down. What must I now learn in order to publish my surveys using 7? Also, do the surveys already created with 6 need to be re-done to function in 7? Jeez, and I thought my life would get back to normal now.

Hello, I recently upgraded from FileMaker Pro 6 to Developer 7 and haven't had much luck connecting my FM database's back up with my PHP scripts. With FM6 I used the Web Companion plug-in, set it to port 591, and that pretty much did it. Now in FMD7 I don't have the Web Companion plug-in and there's three new sharing control panels. The closest thing I could find was IWP but I'm using Apache as my webserver, and it keeps trying to serve my files from a differnet folder. I noticed a very strange thing - my script works when the layout used in the script is open. If the other layout is open in the database - the record is not inserted. I have a sample db I use to test stuff when answering FMFORUMS posts and noticed that some animated GIFs I copy/pasted into container fields actually animate when viewed from the web. Someone had once asked how to animate somethng in a FileMaker layout and I tried a copy/paste and saw the animated gifs just sit there. Using CDML I call up a record that has an image saved inside a container field in the database, the field is named: item_pict All of the text from the database shows up correctly and even the portal data in all browsers, but in IE only the images do not display. Does anybody know if it is possible to create a discussion forum using filemaker, instead of eg. the MySQL/PHP - solutions?

I am very confused with IWP and FMP 7 in a sense that I was told 7 is attempting to make IWP almost a mirror of the FileMaker database and that 70 or so scripts work with it. Why is it then that I cannot use a script that changes layouts on the web with IWP? This is just a basic function. Although the script step is web-compatible and that it does perform the step in FileMaker database, it does not do it online. Also, I tried to maybe have a script step that opens a URL that has a -lay as the parameter, but there is not such parameter with IWP? How am I supposed to use FileMaker 7 and IWP to web-publish even the simpliest of datbase solutions if I can't use such a simple …

users.......... My database application is now up on the web site. I would like to have a limited number of functions performed by our department personnel on the same database over our network. These are functions that cannot currently be accomplished via the web site. I want to establish a password to limit the folks who have access over to the DB over the network. Unfortunately, when I use the password feature in Filemaker it also affects the users accessing the DB through the web site. Any thoughts will be appreciated!

Just got some new laptop broadband datacards so there is now a need to have our database accessable on the internet (as opposed to intranet). Can some one tell me what is the best route to take. Should I purchase Unlimited and is this fully intergratable into the server 5.5 or do I have to share a standalone version? Hey all, I'm a beginner to FMP and I have a question about exporting my database to HTML. I'm creating a database for a research group which will store information on all the publications written by our researchers. One of the things we want to do with this database is to create static HTML pages containing the data. One of the fields in the database is a Link field, which will contain a filename that we hope to link to a PDF version of the publication. The most efficient way to handle this would be of course to export my database to HTML. That's fine. Hi, I was wondering how I can publish my layouts without the side bar showing. I can get it to move out of the way, but a savoy user can always just drag it back out. Is there a setting that allows it to be eliminated when served on the web??

The functionality that IWP provides for my database is 99% ok. However I need to use custom web publishing for the other 1% that is emailing. Can I, and if so how can I, simply add some pages to FM's web solution - or do you have to re-create the whole thing? Thanks Emma

I have a filemaker solution that uses 3 separate layouts in separate windows to display information to the user. An all products, sub-products and products currently in their project - they select the product, its sub-products appear in the 2nd window and then they click on a sub-product to add it to the project in the 3rd. This will be accessed by clients on the internet - is such a set up (with multiple layouts viewing at the same time) possible? Or can you only view one layout at a time? I've done FileMaker for many years but just now experimenting with custom web pages. I have a system that I want to offer over the web that asks a user to create their own login account before they enter. Any suggestions? Later when they log in, I don't want to allow them to enter unless they have a username and password. Those items will be passed as tokens to different web pages and effect what they see.

I am getting this error when making multiple http find requests to Web Companion. The requests are being issued by an xsl stylesheet (not running in Xalan in FileMaker but in a servlet) which is building an XML file from data in multiple FileMaker files. On many, but not all, of the requests, I set -Max=All to override the default return found set maximum size of 25. The stylesheet can issue hundreds of individual http find requests and at some point the Web Companion starts returning the 403 error. Hello - I've been developing a database solution for a nonprofit I volunteer for for a few years. I'm wondering how I would go about setting up a webpage on our main site so that a user can sign up for our mailing list. Right now, when they click send, it just shoots me an email with their info and then I manually enter it in FMP. I have tried to configure IIS to work with FX.php. I have downloaded PHP, put it into the root web folder of filemaker, then told IIS to have the default directory of filemaker/web. Then I tell the browser to go to a readme.txt and it displays on the browser. But when I try to view a php file it just tells me to download it. How do I configure php and FX.php to work with IIS? I've been using File Maker Pro 5 for over a year to publish 2 different databases over the web using Instant Web Publishing. It's been working just great, but I had a problem with more than 10 people needing to access the databases in a 12 hour period. I recently installed File Maker Pro 5.5 Unlimited so more people could access the databases. It seems to work for most people. But some users receive a 972 error message when trying to access the database (sometimes it works fine but not always). In order to produce a sub-summary from my (CDML) query results, I am using a simple Java script to write my FileMaker records on my results page. This is working well. I am new to Filemaker so hopefully I can explain this: We have setup a RAIC for use on the our Intranet. Running Filemaker Server and IIS on one machine and Filemaker Unlimited 6 on 3 others. Everything seems to be working fine, load sharing and most transactions, however we are having one problem in one transaction. When editing a record and adding some comments, the user then clicks the submit button and we get 3 duplicate records inserted into that one table. I have a win2k server (#1) running FM server 5.5 and it's hosting the databases. I'm also running FM unlimited 6 WSC on another win2k server (#2) running IIS. FMWSC can see the hosted files IF I open them on #1 with FM unlimited 6 from the host button. If I don't open them FMWSC can't see them. Is this the way it's meant to work? I have two simple databases: "Entry Form" and "Member List". "Entry Form" is published via IWP (Member list is open - but not seen). When a member enters his/her name in the entry form, when First name and Last name match, the "member list" db should provide the address, city, state, etc. info (as they are defined as lookups in the entry form). This works in the db, however, when I post to web ... the lookups don't happen. I have priviledges set equally on both dbs. I can't figure out why the look ups don't work.
