Hello. When I try to issue a sql command to delete some records, or when I try to call a script using CallableStatement, I get the following error: java.sql.SQLException: [3] Unavailable Command I can run queries with no problems on other files, and, most strangely, a query that doesn't return any data runs without an exception on this particular file. The .fp5 file is running in FM Developer 6. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello Everyone, I'm runnig FileMaker Pro 7 v2 on MAC OSX-10.3.8. I am tring to configure odbc sharing; I got the xDBC plugin from the filemaker website. I put the plugin files under "/FileMaker Pro 7/ Extensions/"(two files 1.xDBC Support 2. xDBC.fmplugin), so now I can see "ODBC/JDBC" sharing under FileMaker menu, but when I try to share a database, it is giving me an error message "Could not initialize the xDBC service" !! please let me know if anyone of you have any idea to fix this problem !! and also odbc client driver for MAC is now available, does anyone has any documentation or a set of steps to configure it on MAC ?? I have been able to establish the odbc connection on my server correctly for both User and System DSN. However, Crystal Reports is on my local computer, so I somehow have to get my client computer to have the ODBC drivers oh it. I try and setup the same thing using the server name and port 2399 but it gives me "authorization failed." any idea why I would get that. I'm an administrator and I also have the FM7 ODBC turned on. Any help would be great.

I'm trying to do a mail merge (Microsoft Word 2003) using FMD 7 as a data source on Windows XP Pro (SP2). I have installed the ODBC driver and believe that it is properly configured (localhost, port 2399, default). At least I have followed the instructions on the FM CD. I can see the driver as a System DSN entry. I test the connection in the setup dialog and enter Admin as the user name (no password) and the connection tests OK. But here's the problem. When setting up my merge, I select the proper driver as a data source, and a dialog comes up asking me for a user name and password. I have never set up any accounts in filemaker, so I don't know what to enter. I enter…

Hello. I'm new here and with FM. I have a problem with it and I can't solve it. help please! I have a FM7 database with information such as people names and surnames. When you look up for a name, for example, it shows the information of that person and many other information from other FM files. Now, the identification of a person must be done through a central database wich contains the people information centralized. So I've decided to do this. First I construct the query with a kind of "look up interface", connect with that database using ODBC, I import the remaining user information (address...) and now... what? With this new information I must get the rema…

What I want to do now is to connect via ODBC to a filemaker database (either mac or pc). Is there a driver to do that? Thanx Ernesto

I keep getting the following error when trying to bring my table into SQL Server via ODBC: [DataDirect][ODBC Sequelink Driver][ODBC Socket][DataDirect][ODBC Filemaker Driver]Invalid character value. Error in column 62. I look at field #62 and it is a global field with nothing in it. I can't figure out what is going on. I have other tables that I imported that had global fields but not this one. Hey, all. I have a very simple SQL statement that is only doing a SELECT on one field (and it's an indexed field, too) with no WHERE clause. When I get to this part of a Windows Scripting Host script: iAffect = 0 msgbox "cmd.Execute(iAffect)" set rs = cmd.Execute(iAffect) The command takes about 20-30 min. to return. The .fp5 (under FM Pro 6) that I'm querying is about 7800 records. Does anyone have any ideas as to why FM would take half an hour to just process that query before I even got to walk through the recordset?

I added an auto-enter text field to a layout in an FM7 table to hold an SQL command. When left, this field automatically uses EventScript to launch a script called "SQL Test" (with the parameter being the field contents). The script has one line: Execute SQL (specified by Get(Parameter)). The table is correctly set up in ODBC. The script runs, but nothing happens--I expected a window to popup to display the SQL results. I've used FM's SQL Query Builder to import records, but apparently this feature cannot be used to directly query an FM table. I can use MSQUERY to query any FM database (including the current one), but I'd prefer to do this internally through a t…

Okay, I've been through the nightmare of getting the SequeLink 5.4 ODBC driver to pass the "Test Connect" but now I am still having problems. I have my database open with all the ODBC/JDBC file sharing options enabled. I've installed the ODBC driver on a test server. I then installed the ODBC driver on a production server, and ran the same ASP code. This time it had an error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040…

So I have ODBC running, and been nicely coding PHP w/odbc, I ran into some minor issues and was able to resolve them, but now I see a bug in the driver or FM. - or so I think - When I perform SELECT name1, name2,...name[N] with odbc_exec I get result but if N > 35, meaning if I select more then 35 columns I get the result in a circular fassion. I have had adequate success using ODBC to send simple SQL queries to FMP. But I'm now having difficulties querying tables that have Summary field types. When I run a simple query like "SELECT `company name` from Clients" the FileMaker interface mostly locks up (as it always does on ODBC queries) but I can see a dialog about calculating Summary fields. Eventually my program making the query raises a spectacularly uninformative exception*, although FMP continues to chew through 99% of the CPU until I eventually kill it. If I delete all Summary fields in a test copy of the database, the query works as well as it should. Through experimentation I've found I can som…

FM db is currently importing data from SQL on web server via ODBC scripting. The SQL is fed from a web-based form. On the SQL database I updated a field to accept 8000 characters, so that it can be fed by a text area on the web page. However, when the script imports it into a filemaker record, the FM database only captures the first 1500 or so characters. I checked the target field in Filemaker and confirmed that there is no character limit in the validation. Any clues I'm missing? Is this a SQL issue or a Filemaker issue?

I am wondering if anyone has seen an ODBC driver for Mac that would work for Informix 7.X SE? I am about to start on a project involving FMP 7 and the previously mentioned product among others and I am looking for the easy ways before I try the hard ways. I work on a Win XP machine, so I am used to seeing Informix listed in the ODBC setup dialog, but I am not sure of my options on Mac.

Hi I am new to using Filemaker, and I am having problems getting the DataDirect Sequelink for ODBC 5.4 to install correctly. The driver does not appear in the list when adding a datasource. I have read that there is a bug where I need to install....remove...and then re-install, but this had no effect. I even tried installing it on a different PC in my office (also WinXP) but still no luck. I have the MDAC 2.8 installed. Any ideas?

New to SQL I am doing something wrong in my SQL query to pull the data from last week. I have used the form WHERE dbo.UserEvent.DateModified > (now()-7) changing the date indicator "now" to date, today, currdate and playing with the brackets in different forms makes no difference. Mostly I get [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [sql Server] 'now' is not a recognised function name.(-1) changing the bracket type can change the message. This request is an exact copy of one suggested earlier on this list, where have I gone wrong?

I have had a link with an old oracle database v7.3.3.0.0 in OS 9 and windows though FM 6 for a few years now and it looks extremely well, but I am now looking to update to FM 7, but I don't think I can link to this oracle db from OS X. Can anyone help with this query? Also what oracle client software is available for OS X, I have the ODBC driver for oracle, but am having a huge problem finding any client software like SQL*net for OS X? Thanks, Kieron

I am trying to set up the DataDirect ODBC file on my XP Pro box with Developer 7. I would like to link the FMP file within an MS access data base. Both files are resident on the same PC. The data direct set up keeps asking for host names, port addresses, and file names. I could understand this if the data was on a separate server, but I can not figure out how to set up the driver within a PC. Any one solve this issue yet? Thanks Ron Filipek

A few weeks ago I created an ODBC connection to see how easy it was to pull data from FileMaker into Crystal Reports. The good news is it was pretty easy. The bad news is it is really slow. No surprise here for most of you folks I imagine. Long story made short; it was so slow that I gave up the idea of connecting the two and deleted my System DSN. I should probably mention that I'm running on Windows XP. With that background now to my real problem; every time I create a new non-FileMaker (Oracle) based report in Crystal it now takes a long time to to get to the table linking screen after the tables have been added. Before I installed the FileMaker driver i…

I am having serious trouble trying to connect to an FM7 database through ODBC from either VB6 or VB.NET. Although the SequeLink driver appears to work OK from Access or Excel, when I try even a simple connection programmatically, I get a variety of errors or FM simply crashes. Is anybody else having similar issues? Or conversly, is anyone able to connect to FM7 via ODBC with either VB or C++ in a stable and reliable way?

Okay, seemingly simple problem, yet no aparent solution to me after hours of searching on the topic, so any help is greatly appreciated I have a FileMaker 6 database that consists of all computers in the school district I work for, done by one of our assistant principals, along with fields for problems and tickets. Working in the Technology department, I wrote a PHP application to be used for web problem ticketing... teachers and faculty can report problems, it creates a ticket, and then allows for administrators and IT personnel to update the status of that ticket, and even view history per computer by their unique town asset tag. I can import these tickets in…

Hello. I am trying to connect to a FMP 5.5 database from Access 2000. The database is exposed through the DSN (I can see it), but when I select the FM database, I get error: "the operation failed. There are to many indexes on table [tablename]. Delete some indexes and try the operation again." I deleted all the indexes and I still get this error message. Any ideas? Thanks. Walt

Environment : windows 2000 , VC 6.0 Dear all, I have installed evaluation version of Filemaker Pro 7.0 I am trying to fetch data in filemaker database from my VC application using ADO. I am using the DataDirect 32 bit SequeLink 5.4 odbc driver to make a DSN based connection. I am successfully able to make a connectin and write into it. But when im trying to read data from it , it gives problems. Its observed that if it has a multiple of fields with same datatype ( e.g. numeric) and the fields have data present in them in the table , there is a problem in retrieving data. ADO reports "Numeric Value out of bounds" for numeric fields an…

This may be a stupid question but i can't seem to find the answer. I have a Microsoft Access db that my FileMaker db reads from and writes to. I want to count the number of records in the Access db before i write to it. The only way i can think of doing this using the Execute SQL statement with the following query: SELECT COUNT ("GUN_ID") FROM "PLAYERS_1" Gun_Id is the first field in the Access table and Players_1 is the table name. It executes without errors but i don't know where the returned value goes. Is it held in memory? How do i get the record count into a field in my FileMaker db? The Access db is on a remote server and i access it from FileMak…

Hi All, I am using the following code in my ASP page to read a image and display it. In my code first i am reading the binary content of the image that is saved in the database and then converting it to a string using "RSBinaryToString" function, finally appending the string content to that blank image. Then i am planning to display in my ASP page. This works perfectly when i do in Windows 98(PWS), but when i try the same in Windows 2000(IIS) the image is not created properly. What is the problem, what code change should i do to make it work in Windows 2000 system also, or is there is any alternative for this?. Plz treat this as urgent. For u'r information i am using f…

When doing an import using an ODBC data source one must specify the "Data Source Name" and of course a logon and password if required. I would like to be able to pass the data source name to a scripted import records function so that I could easily redirect the query between a production and test database. I know this is possible with the PDM SQL plug-in but can it be done using the import records function in FM7.

Is there any guides for the complete novice on connecting a FM table to an MS Access table. I have a projects database that I want Filemaker to populate a MS Access database. I looked at the OpenLink driver but it started to make my head spin. Basically, I want FileMaker to update the Access database whenever there are any changes to the projects database. Even better would be that the user of the Access database could make changes in Access and have those changes appear in the FileMaker database. Please help point me in the right direction. Either Mac or PC direction would be great. We're also hosting our DB on FM Server on a W2K box. Cheers. Mich…

We are experiencing 2 different problems when pushing data into FileMaker from our WebObjects/Open Base world. 1) We are receiving many "Host Not Found" error messages when trying to dump records into FileMaker. Many records come through okay, but some look like partially downloaded records and then need to be removed before the next download. 2) Some records are tagged as having made it into FileMaker, but they don't appear in FileMaker. It's as if FileMaker is giving incorrect confirmation. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot these problems. The FileMaker machine is running WindowsXP, FileMaker. Hi all, i'm using the JDBC driver from FileMaker together with Apache's Cocoon to build a web application. On updating my data i create a SQL statement containing a single quote in the new value, like the following: update "Produkt.fp5" set name='Thank's' It don't work, i receive a error message from FilemMaker. I tried to escape the single quote with '', ', %27, and some other, but i don't get it to work. I've found a similar thread in this forum, but without solution. Is there really no solution to this problem ? Many thanks in advance Kai

I'm working with an inherited config and have very raw SQL skills. I'm trying to update a script in my FM 5.5 db that imports from an external SQL table. The main issue is adding new fields to the SQL table, and then updating the FM script to import matching values. Details: The present config imports known matching fields from SQL to FM using a Filemaker script which operates through an ODBC plug-in. The plug-in and drivers reside on a client PC running FM 5.5. I created new text fields in the SQL table and then created identical text fields in FM. In the current ImportSQL script I'm looking to modify, it presently imports data from a set number of fi…
