As we move into a new academic year, I want to restrict finds on the Grades table to grades for the new year only (i.e. find only those records from the Grades table with an entry of 2006 in the year field, excluding those for 2005, unless the user specifies 2005 in the Year field explicitly). Hi, I have an issue with a report which is running really slow. The application is running from the server in LA. I have some users in Indianapolis. The connection there has been a little slower than what users get in LA. I have designed a new report which contains summary part to show group data. I have created a script to run this report where I first find the data, navigate to the report layout and sort the data. I have experienced in the past that sorting has always resulted to make the application slower in Indianapolis. The report needs to be shown with the grouped data and hence I believe that sorting is important. But this time the report generation has …

I'm a newbie and the only two functions that seem relevant are "count" and "exact". The values in the field are: "sold", "available" etc. The formula I was looking at was similar to: count(exact("sold"; status)) but the field type is not appropriate for a text value such as "sold". Am I on the right track or is there something else? Kevin

I have a search problem. When some of our users do a find for a certiain status("Revisions Needed" for example). The search returns all the records that have that status, but occasionally it either returns extra records or reports the correct records, but with statuses that show up as something other than the search criteria status. My first thought was a cached data issue, but even after a restart of filemaker and the machine, they still get it. I can't replicate it, and we have tried a reinstall, including throwing out all the preferences on the machine. No luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. ~Mark

The boss wants to be able to run a report by finding one name and printing all related records. So the report has to be seperated by names. Maybe a script would work here. A very helpful person has suggested I do the following: Enter Find Mode {} Set Field [field1; globalfield1] Set Field [field2; globalfield2] Perform Find [] Were globalfield1 represents a matching global field for field1, etc. Question: This makes the assumption that the global field is set as a Calculated field that always is fieldname – no? Recently, I was sent to a training by my company on how to effectively search and analyze databases. A key componet was doing SQL searches - and using Access. Maybe it was poor research, but my company exclusively uses Mac OS X and Filemaker was the database of choice. As FM 7 translates Access databases, my only concern is whether I can someone make basic SQL searches within filemaker or if I will need to learn how to use a program like CocoamySQL. Using Access is just not possible at my job, they just moved over to Macs. Any thoughts from FM pros would be appreciated.

Right now the table is populated with data from both 2002 and 2004. I need to make these two finds: 1. VotingLocations which existed in 2004 but not 2002 2. In order to do this I must use the cmd-s keystroke to alphabetically sort. With A5 my rep finds were always sorted alphabetically. Any help here? Thanks

Is it okay to search on un-stored calculation fields where a part of the calculaiton field is part of a relationship (so that i can't force it to store the calculation). I'm certain it worked in my testing database but when I empty it all out and give it to the client it stops doing the find on me unless something else is wrong.

I believe the problem mainly coming from the Filemaker Server, because when we stop the server and open the file directly as single user mode. It did not obtain the same error at all. The line items table contains the individual line items for the invoices and is related to the invoices table using a field called invoice number. 66. I have a contact management table whose most "natural" sorting order is by the "company name" field. When I view the table in unsorted order, it comes up in the jumbled order of creation, which isn't really useful at all. Right now I have to go to some trouble in scripts to make sure that the found set is always sorted. Instead, would there some way to permanently change Filemaker's default sort order? One possibility I can think of would be to duplicate all the records in the order that I want and then delete the old ones, but that seems risky and clumsy. Doesn't Filemaker have a feature to easily do this somewhere that I've missed? Thanks.

I run this once a week and it has been fine for about 6 weeks. For some reason it it finding records that are not really duplicates and is omitting them. The only thing that was done was that we removed a large portion of the records that were not being used. Would this have possibly created a problem with the ID that can not be seen on the surface? Is there another way to omit duplicates?
