    Anyone know of any fax software/solution that will allow Filemaker to fax over a large number of lines? I'm looking to create a solution to automate up to 4,000 faxes to be sent and want to do it over at least 20 lines.

  3. Had to reinstall my FM Pro 4.0v1 today. Working on files hosted by FM Server 3.0v3 but the problem is on my client end because it has only been happening since the re-install. It's so strange...when I'm working in layout mode and I copy a layout object (text or a button) and then choose paste layout object(s) either from the edit menu or by right-clicking, FM pastes a graphic! instead of a duplicate of the copied object. I can get it to work properly if I choose "Paste As..." from the Edit Menu and then choose layout object(s). This is very frustrating. Any thoughts?

    I know this is an easy question but I can't find the answer in the book or in the help. Currently the printout is only printing 36 lines per page. The printer seems to be correctly set to portrait and 8.5x11. I need to know how to set the page length to use the entire page.

    I have a problem with a text field for narratives of a report. The layout includes a Title Header and a Header. The problem starts when the second and subsequent pages print . The text starts printing in the header section. (superimposed over the header). The frustration is not only finding the problem, but finding out why I can get it to work fine on one computer, but not the others. FMP 5.5V2 FMPS Win 2000 Win 98 (the machine that works) Geno

  6. As usual, I'm hoping this vast knowledge base can help me out. Here's my deal: We have reports cards in FM. Many teachers type their comments at home and then cut/paste into the FM report card. Trouble is, it retains the formatting (font, size, etc) of the word processor they created it in. We need the report card to be in a specific size and font, though. I've tried locking the field, merging the field into a text box formatted with our text formatting, but I can' seem to strip away the old text styles. Is the only option to go in and manaully select all, then change the text style? Please say it ain't so....

    hi, I'm using MondoMail to send emails with from FM, using apple events. All is working pretty well even under OSX.2.2. The bad thing however is that I must boot OS9 too just for the mondomail app. Is there a good and scriptable replacement for MondoMail using OSX?? ThX

    All of my form layouts print with an extra blank page after each page... blank meaning the body is blank, but the header and footer are printed. So, if I have 50 records in the Found set, I print 100 pages. I sent it to Ray to pay him to look into the problem... but it didn't do it for him. Arrgh. Has anyone seen a similar problem? Any suggestions on what to look at? My platform: FMP 5.5 on Mac OS X 10.1.5 on G4 Tower printing to Lexmark X83 or old PS laser printer.

  10. My problem is this: I am using FMP 5.5 v2 on a G4 with OSX 10.2.2. I am using an Apple personal laserprinter 320. When I upgraded to 10.2.1 and subsequently to 10.2.2 FMP will no longer properly print an envelope. The fields are shifted from the left side towards the center of the envelope approximately 1-1/2 inches. The layout is correct, the page set-up is correct. When I view the envelope in preview mode, it is correct. My only way around the problem was to use the print center dialogue to preview in Acrobat Reader. From there I am able to print correctly. I reinstalled 10.2 and the problem went away. Uprgrading again to 10.2.2, the problem returned. Anyo…

    I just installed OS X 10.2.1 and FMPro 6. I had been using 9.2.2 and FMPro 3 up til now with no troubles whatsoever. With FMPro 6, I opened my trusty old database created in 3.0 and it opened, looked and worked fine... BUT... when I try to print a record, there is no "Print" button in the Print dialog box. There is only a "Save" button. When I click it, I am taken to another dialog box where I am prompted to save the file as a PDF. Then a very quick status box appears that says "Printing..." only nothing is printed on my printer. And a PDF file of the record is saved. This is very frustrating.     If I create a bunch of mail/merge form letters, I would like to email them to their respective recipients. I currently have a file that contains an eMail address field. How can I create and send the form letters to the email addresses of the selected clients? I have to accomplish this task on both MACs and PCs. I assume I'll need to write a script to do this.     I have been struggling with a layout for months, trying to get a container field to slide, and it just won't do it. Here are the details: FM 5 on Win98/2000 and same problem on MacOS 9.something Sliding is set for sliding up based on all above, and slide the enclosing part (which is the body). If I change the definition of the field in question to text, it slides fine, but when it's a container it doesn't. It seems like I've had a container slide before, but am I mistaken, and containers simply don't slide? What else could be wrong? Thanks!

  17. I want to print a set of form letters. I have selected the recipients and I wish to include the company information (name, address, etc.) in the header of the form letter. The company information resides in its own database table. How can I print the company information in these documents without relating the files?     I've got a script I run from different layouts that does nothing but execute a Send Mail command. If I run the script from any layout other than one particular layout it works fine - mail system launches (I'm using Hotmail). But if I execute the script from this one particular layout a browser window opens and displays the standard "This Page Cannot be Displayed Message". The crazy thing is that this worked fine before I went in and edited the Send Mail settings which I have since reset to their original values. Any ideas on how to get this craziness to stop? I don't even care anymore about WHY its happening. I just really need the problem to go away.

I can email each person with no problem but i want to be able to email all the members.     We have a letter that we are trying to print out. At the bottom of the letter we need to print a signature, name and title. We have it setup so the body of the letter is a lookup field and we have sized the field so it will be more than big enough to accomodate any letter we print. We have the signature, name and title set to slide up to take up the extra space of the letter text field. What is happening is that FMP is shrinking the letter text field too small. It is cutting off part of the letter. It is sliding the signature, name and title part of the way but not up to where it should be. We have found a workaround for the letter text field being cutoff.     Hi folks, I appologise for this simple question, but can't for the life of me remember how to do this. I need to print only odd pages from FileMaker 5.0 on MAC OS 9.2. Printer => HP LaserJet 1200n series. But this is not driver dependant, rather app dependant. I can do this from MS word, but no from file maker. Off course there's an option to manually specify this in pages window, but I'm not really eager to do this for 200+ pages Thanks!

    OK, here's a nice thrown at me by one of the users of our databse solution : Every week there is a specific layout that needs to go out by fax to contacts and prospects. However the contents of the layout need to get chaged every week as it is a promo layout. But... I don't want to allow the users to go into layout mode because of the potential danger for screwups. We are a Commercial Production Company that produces radio adverts all day long. We are currently employed in the second largest contract in Europe. The problem is this. As we create radio ads we type in hundreds of scripts a day and they have to be in a special format, that being the voice directions go in a column on the left hand side of the page and then the script for each voice on the right. When I attempt to print the page currently being viewed via a script, only the page selected when the script was created will print.     I have a report that is created off of 2 files related by the job_no contained in each file. The application is for tracking repairs. The main file is job_hdr and the child is job_items. The report is created in the job_items file and is sorted by job_id. I cannot get a summary field to show me the count of jobs on this report. I need to know in which file to create the summary field. This is a picture of the report if it helps in my lack of description. The number 92 in the image below should be 2 but it is counting the total of customers in the header, not the found count of customers.

  36. We are using FM 4 for Windows. And, we keep a record of work performed for customers in a database. The work performed uses three fields for the date of the work order, description of work performed, and labor hours consumed. Each of these three fields are repeating field that have 100 lines, so we can send our customers a record of the last 100 service calls. Although most reports have less that 30 service calls and fit on one page, some take two or even three pages. I set the printer to print "1 of 1 pages" and "print all records being browsed" (which are about 50 records), and go back and manually print the second or third page for clients that have over 30 …

    I have followed the instructions to extend a text field over the length of the longest possible entry. Then I did the slide up option to shrink it for any short entries and selected page break for each occurrence. Now, in Preview mode, the second page of a record with a long text in the text field prints right over the field names on the second page. The odd thing, is that on the layout, these names are not there- only once where they should be.     Seem to have a bit of a problem. My database layouts have been setup to print at 85% of the original document size, to fit on an A4 sheet of paper. This is fine on Apple Macs as the document can be set to print at 85% and therefore fit on a sheet of A4. I'm sure this also used to be fine on our windows machines that were running Windows 98. After our upgrade to Windows 2000 we now seem to be stuffed as there is no longer an option in the Print Setup window to print at a percentage of the original document size. Am I missing something here or is this really no longer an option in Windows 2000!?

    Hello Forum, I don't have any idea as to how I went wrong. I've never had a printing problem until I tried to adjust some of my field definitions last night. In browse mode, I have 351 records. Records should be the same as pages, so I thought. At least until now, it has worked out that way. To print, I type in pages 351 to 351 usually. Instead when I do this, I am now actually printing record 172 or some other record. I checked in preview mode. There is a question mark near where it supposed to have the total pages.     After several years of using the same database, I recently printed 17 pages of labels and after the first two pages, the labels were a bit lower on each consecutive page. Fifteen of the 17 pages were unusable. I tried creating a new layout with Avery Label 5160, with the same field names, but it did the same thing. I can't figure out why, after all these years, the layout would be off now. I am using FM Pro 5 v.1 and Windows 98. The only way I was able to get the labels printed was to print two pages at a time.

    Hello, Using FileMaker Developer 5.5 I have several layouts with multi-line text fields. I set up 5 pixel left and right margins for the fields. The text displays correctly in Preview mode and prints correctly on my HP OfficeJet printer at home. The printing problem is at work using a HP LaserJet. It ignores my indents and prints the text right up to the edge of the field and sometimes beyond the right field boundary. Any suggestions for how I could correct this? Thanks.

    Hi- I've created two layouts on my database with the exact same fields. One layout is for inputting and the other is for printing. I created the two layouts, so that on the printing layout I could enlarge the fields and have them slide as required for printing. Unfortunately, sometimes part of the text in the field gets cut off when printing. This only happens on a few of my records, though. Does anyone know why this might happen and how I might be able to fix it? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Does anyone have any suggestions for printing when there are details in more than one child database? I am making a solution to record liens registered on vehicles. The parent db records who registered the lien, how long it is for, and how much is owed. The first child db records who owes the money - the debtor. There can be multiple debtors per lien. The second child db records the vehicles the lien is registered against. There can be multiple vehicles per lien.     Hi there, I have a layout which prints great using OS 9, but under OS X there are problems. I'm using a PostScript font, with the style of condensed. On screen it looks fine. When printed the text seems to have normal spacing, but the characters are scaled thinner, with much more space between them. There is no problem with OS 9. I've tried two different printers and two different Macs, each time with the same result. BTW, this can be seen in Preview, or if you print out to paper. Are there problems printing postscript from within OS X? Is there a workaround? Thanks much

    I've two printers, Laser and Label. I have stumbled, I think on how to create scripts to print either Current Record or Records being browsed. I've NOT been able to find the right sequence to have a script specify which printer to use. The keep/restore thing is not as straight forward as I would hope, and I sense that is where my problem lies. I'm trying to build a solution for relative illiterates to whom having to learn how to specify a printer would be considered high level training in which they would not participate. Any solutions or better stated tutorials anyone could point me too?

    I'm using FMP 5.5 with Mac OSX. I have created a layout that spans two pages. I have set the Part Setup to allow parts to break across page boundaries. The problem is that page 1 is printing on top of page 2. I have searched the FM Website for tech articles about this to no avail, and I've tried breaking the layout into two text blocks. Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?

    Hi. When I print a report to acrobat then I don't get the "save as" dialog anymore, as I used to. I only get "Print status" and after a while the print job is canceled and FlieMaker freeze. When I print to pdf from Word everything goes as usual, acrobat launches and the pdf file is made. Do I need to update a driver for the acrobat distiller? Have anyone answer to this problem?

    I was previously using File Maker 5.5 with os9.2 how ever recently i changed to os x 10.2 and also upgraded to File Maker 6.0 I use the same data base as i did when i was using os 9.2, which works fine in FM 6.0, how ever when i go to print, the print window 'hangs'. So i cancel the print, but then the printer window comes up (that's right, the print window comes up when i click cancel). Anyway, i click print and it prints. HOWEVER, it does not print correctly. All the dimensions are wrong, and only have the actual page is printed onto the paper. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    I have just switched my fm db from serialized records to one record with multiple quantities of an item. Example: First record has serial# 233 for widget B25 with a quantity of 100- I need to print say 30 labels(avery) because these are new inventory but right now when I run the script to go to the label layout in the inventory db, it will only print one label as it sees only one record. If I duplicate it enough times to make the labels then my inventory is messed up because it now sees 30 record with serial # 233 with a quantity of 100. How do I get these labels to print correctly?     Dear users, I have 5 layouts in my DB that I would like to print to one acrobat reader file. Is that possible? What's more users choose which "Pages" (layouts for me) to print. If they choose ex. 3 of those 5, they print it to 3 different files. Is there a solution to print it to one file? I know I could design one extra layout containing those 5 but i would like to be able to print just desirable pages (layouts). Appreciate any suggestions.

    Is it possible to store a certain printer setup for Win XP. I want to be able to store a certain tray (tray 3) on my printer for certain documents that are printed out by a user. I don't to rely on the user to remember to select the correct tray on a printer for certain docs in my FM database. On Mac OS X this works great it will store the trays and number of copies, but I can't figure it out for Win XP. Can someone help me. Thanks,

    Okay, this is what i try to do. I have a database with contacts in multiple languages. I designed a few layout with standard letters on top of wich merge fields are positioned for greeting. The idea is to send a letter based on the language of the person with his name on top. For that I created a script but it doesn't work, i only get erratic results.     I have a multiple file report that should give me an easy to view and interperit report. It isa stock report basically divided up into Supplier of item,which may relate to many departments of Item which can in turn lead to many catagories of item which has many styles of Item which finally shows all the items for this style. The report is based in the items file. When I am in browse mode I see everything as I would expect it to be.     Does anyone know the best way to produce simple text file containing text and merged data? The problem I have is this. I use a File Maker data base to handle subscripition information. After I input a members info I would like to generate a single mail merged welcome message that I could then email to my client. I am not looking to to a mass mail merge. I did try producing a letter as a layout which contained merged data. This worked fine, only problem is that I cannot copy the letter displayed on screen into a text file.

    We have been using our FM solution at our business on a network or about 20 people. We just started using OSX 10.1.5 with our FM solution. We discovered a major pit fall with FM 5.5v2 on OSX, when printing a document in FM and you want multiple copies of that (i.e. 3 copies), FM will not send this to the printer as one print job but a separate print job for each copy (i.e. 3 jobs). In a network enviroment this is not good as it will mix print outs with other peoples printout. OS9 and Windows does not do this. I found this article #107981 on Filemaker's web site. It shows us that FM has a problem with OSX. Does anyone know how to fix this and if EM 6 for OS…

    I have an HP 2250tn connected via Ethernet. I have a db with about 1500 records. When I print from an old PBK running os9.1 all is well. The printer pumps out the pages one after another. On an iMac running os10.2: When I print from one specific layout the printer sits for about a minute before printing every single page. From a different layout the printer pumps out the pages normally. So I figured that some particular object on the layout was the problem.     I'm having a problem getting a subsummary part to print after the body portion of a report. The body of the report has been set to page break after a given number of occurances (14 lines only, so it fits on the page OK). But the subsummary then prints on the next page.     Hi, I finally loaded all 11,000+ listings into my database successfully. I am now facing an aggravating problem. I assumed that by using the default font style & size, I would be able to print out everything in the window of my database. I stretched out the fields to fill the window nicely so there wouldn't be a space left over on the right side. But when I print out any of my listings, they are in huge # 12 font size and only half the fields will show up on the printout. Is there any way to change the font size for the entire database? My join file has fields for the user's names, borrowed film title, date out, date due, date in. On my Users db, I want to make a layout to print receipts (on a Dymo Labelwriter using roll paper) of movies checked out that show the title, date out and date due.     Full message: The Printer could not be found. Cannot access print options. Use the Control Panel to set up an active printer W98, HP Brio, FM5.52 FileMaker is the ONLY application doing this. Everything else on that machine is printing. All other machines -- site license -- have no problem. Windows where reinstalled on that machine -- still no luck.

    You know how in List View any buttons you have in the header stay visible as you scroll? Is it possible to do this in Form View? I tried putting a couple of buttons in a header but they just scroll away under the title bar. I would also like the same functionality at the bottom of the screen like in a footer. I know this isn't a normal outputing problem (email, fax, etc) but the screen is actually an "output" plus I couldn't think of a more appropriate forum to post this question.

Anyway, we have a database that keeps track of the inserts that come to our newspaper. What I want to have happen is when a new insert is logged in, the database automatically sends an email to the appropriate sales rep alerting them that the insert has arrived. Any ideas?     With your help, I discovered how to save a conciderable amount of wasted space when running a report by using the "Reduce size of the enclosing part" feature, which is a wonderful thing. But, I still have a bit of empty space showing up. Is there a default amount of "part" that will always show up or is there a way to omit the enclosing part completely when nothing is in the part?
