Hi All looking for a definative answer to this one. I have 2 printers and am trying to have my scripts remember which printer i want to goto. Seems filemaker cannot retain the printer choice within my scripts no matter what i do! Is this a bug? Stu

I have script in my database which when activated sends a print job instructing the printer to print 3 pages from 3 trays of the same printer, ie; page 1 prints from tray 1, page 2 from tray 2 and page 3 from tray 3. This script worked when the printer was being hosted by a windows server 2000 machine. When we migrated the printers and databases to a windows server 2003 machine the script stopped working, instead it simply reverts to whatever the default printer is on the users computer. The script continues to work if I point it to the printer spooler hosted on the 2000 server, but no matter what I try I cannot get it to work on the new 2003 server. D…

Hi, I use the standard FMP walk through to create labels (avery 5161 i think). The problem is that I want to add text, for instance "Original Price:" and then the price field, which works great, but here's the catch... I don't always print out a page at a time so let's say I have a half sheet of labels and I need to print one label at position 18 on the label page... I clear out my current table and enter 17 "blank" entries and use #18 to land the printing on the label in the correct position. This works alright, but the problem is that when I enter the 17 "blank" entries it still prints "ORIGINAL:" with no price (because there is no information as it is blank…

righto, trying to generate reports, no problem, preview looks fine, but when i print for some reason which i cant locate, filemaker decides to randomly align a certain line within the text (doesnt always happen, but repeatedly occurs on multiple records ). Once again, print preview looks fine but output text allignment is a bit random, anyone else have this problem or suggest a reason as to its occurance? Same problem on different OS versions (SP2 and SP1 windows) and Filemaker pro 7 & 8....

I have a report that accurately ranks by subtotals (sort by summary field). The subtotals are ranked properly but the data for the first subtotal displays incorrectly, i.e. it's supposed to be 9000 but displays as 115. All other subtotals display accurately. Since the right subtotal displays first, why isn't FM6 displaying that data accurately? Any ideas?

Hello, Ever scince we moved from OS 9 to OS X we have had no luck collating our print jobs on various printers. We tried updating the printer drivers etc with no luck. MS Word will collate no problem as will other apps but FMP will not. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? We are using FMP 6 and thinking about moving to version 8 however we would like to know if this problem has been fixed. Any info or suggestions?

Greetings, Within the solution for my photography studio, one of the things we enter when making a new order, is what pose number goes with each photograph ordered. It is not ideal for us to manually enter these in order of pose number, but to simply plug in each item as the customer makes their descions. For internal use we print off a copy of the order to begin work on editing/etc. It is a big pain as it is now, needing to jump all over, and even come back to the same pose over and over. I was wondering if I can somehow have it print with the line items sorted by the pose number??? Any help is greatly appreciated ;)

I'm completely at a loss to print from a find layout on Pro Advanced 8 on Mac OSX Tiger to a Laserjet 1200. When I find records even only one found page after selecting print the feed LED will flash for a few second but then the button will light and nothing happens. When I press the button it clears the document out of print memory. Other layout in the database will print and it'n not set to manual feed as I put a sheet in but it's never taken. The test find that I wish to print is less than 1 page in landscape mode. I would appreciate any feedback. Kevin

Let me explain how this field is set. I create a record, then copy the text (from word) and paste it into this field. Sometimes the Doc is short (only one page) sometimes it's long (10 pages) problem. If I set the dimensions of the field to one page then anything over one page will not show when I print it. If I set the dimensions to 10 pages then what ever I print will print 9 blank pages. Is there a way to set this field so that for each record it only prints how ever long it really is?

hello, I have a repeating field that is 20 lines. I display 10 lines on my layout and have a scroll bar to scroll down to the rest of the lines. My problem is when I print, I only get what is displayed on the screen...the bottom part does not print out. Can someone help me?...thanks, Denis ...

Have a solution that has two portals, one below the other, the second portal starts on the second page down. In 6 they slide up just fine as does everything below them so the result is nice and tidy (this spans 2 pages but seldom prints more than 1). In 7 the items on the second page do not slide up at all, I only see the first page in preview and printed. Has something changed and I'm missing it? I've checked and double checked everything, I'm reduced the portal rows and put everything on one page, works fine. R

When going to a layout I have setup to print a report and viewing it in preview mode the report is not centered on the page. The left margin is way smaller than the right. I have tried going into "Layout Setup" and "Printing" and tried to set to fixed margins however what I see doesn't correlate to what is printed or even previewed. I know it's not printer specific cause I'm setting the preview option for "any printer". The thing that is weird is that when not in "fixed margins" my margins are all unequal. I'm able to print the whole report with the fixed margins off but it's not centered on the page. Is there another setting I'm missing?

I have a script written that selects the correct records to output to label sheets but since I have better luck printing one sheet at a time. Is it possible to introduce somekind of delay or dialog between each page which would delay so that the next label sheet could be placed in the form feed tray? Kevin

I have started running into this strange printing problem from FileMaker Pro (6.0v4) after I installed Security Update 2005-001. Before the update, everything was working. I use a *relatively simple* FileMaker database that contains, in print/view mode just a few text boxes and the text in them. The problem is this when I view a group of records in table view. I can only print the selected record when using my mac OS10.3.9. On a pc using windows xp I have a choice to print the selected record or all the records being browsed, that is what I need to do. Can anybody help thanks

I am finishing up a purchase order program for our store. The purchase order has many fields, the pertinent ones are: Model Number, QTY, Description, Cost, Sell price on any given purchase order we order over 20 line items, with different quantities for each. I am using FileMaker Pro 5.5 w/ eDen for fashion specs etc. and am having print problems which aren't there for the PC users in the office. All of the pages are supposed to print in landscape, but they all get cut off as portrait and I cannot access the page setup option (greyed out). I'm having a little problem with some gifs and jpegs in containers...on screen they look fine and dandy but the little buggers wont print I've tried printing from Browse mode, Preview Mode, made sure they are set to print from the Sliding/Printing menu, tried printing to different lasers and creating a postscript file....in short I am out of ideas. (The container field uses a calculation to determine its contents ie if x=1 then green square, x=2 then red triangle.) Any suggestions?

This may be a little off topic...excuse me if it is. I have a locally attached HP Laserject 1012 printer. When I print from within FM, either using the print command on the menu bar or within a script - my printer does not automatically print. The printer acts as if it is having a problem grabbing the paper and produces an error stating I have to manually feed paper to it. If I press the reset button on the printer it prints the document just fine. I thought it was a problem with the printer but I tested it with other programs and I have no problems. Therefore it is not the printer but something within FM that is causing the problem. Any ideas???

I have a simple layout..a field for name and date, a field with checkboxes, some text then a repeating field(up to 20) for names invited to a meeting. After that is a paragraph of text and a couple of date and text fields. My problem is, when I print there is a huge gap between the repeating fields (if fewer than 20 are used) and the rest of the document. I tried sliding up the items after the repeating field, but only the paragraph of text moves up. I'm always left with a big gap, no matter what sliding scheme I use. I know FMP is nota printing program, but I need this dynamic in the number of names I invite, but professional looking when it prints. …

Newbie question: I've just finished developing a database system for my church, we want to print summarized giving reports for our congregation. I have a script that searches for givers and then presents the users in a table list with a print button allowing a user to print an individual giving report, is there a way to print all summarized giving reports at one time? We have over 250 individual givers and clicking print 250 times isn't going to be fun.

Hi Gang, I am trying to setup the ability for users to print their own selectable range of records. For example each record has a sequential number (1,2,3,4...)ID field. I want the user to be able to select a range of records to print. This would then print a columnar layout with the proper range of records. I would prefer NOT to have the user select this in the "Print" dialog screen. Can this be done via script with 2 fields? Many thanks, Nando

I have developed a database that keeps track of inventory. Every month I have to print out a full inventory list. They have to be in a table with headers. I have tried to print it in FileMaker and I only get about 9 columns to fit. There are 16 columns that must print out. I have tried printing them to a PDF and samething,I only get about 9 columns. The only thing that works is printing them out as a CSV and open in Excel. The problem though is the headers are not there and I have to adjust the columns. Anyone have a suggestion?

I have a solution with large text fields which may or not have lots if info in them. I set the fields to slide up if blank...that wowrks fine, but some lines, including text labels are broken across pages resulting in the upper portion of letters on one page and lower portions on another. Is there anyway to control page breaks? I attempted to do a search, but couldn't find a solution. Thanks, Rick

Guys, It looks like with 8.0v1 FMP has quietly fixed a bug that was driving us mad. In 7.0v3 if you had a multi-page document that was justified and had some text formatting, very often you had odd line breaks (i.e. certain paragraphs would not be properly aligned) or lines of text running out of the page on the printed result (i.e. the line fails to break and the text is cropped to the right) or lines being cropped at the bottom of the page. I've just been test printing a few records where I had that type problems in Filemaker Pro 8.0v1 and... THEY PRINT FINE. The line breaks are completely different in 8.0v1 than they were in 7.0v3 (e.g. what used to…

I hope this is the right place to ask this. My customer wants me to make several reports. The first one is all information in the database. The next two is what I have problems with. I have to print all records that show an item that has not sold. The field I would have to work off of is Date Sold, if there is nothing in this field than I need that record printed. So the report would have Manuf,Remarks,Model,Cal,Received Date,cost of item. How would I go about doing this. The other issue is: I need a report that would find the tax amount after a certain date. I'm developing a report that contains several text fields drawn from a related file and located in the header. The 'sliding' option works fine, however I can't seem to find a 'grow' option. It seems you have to preset field sizes to cater for the greatest amount of text they can potentially hold. Unfortunately the layout area has to be large enough to accomodate these giant fields, and when shrinking takes place large areas of white space are visible between the header and the body (contaning fields from the current file 'm:n relationship'). Surely there's a way around this? Any expert FP guidance welcome. Thanks, Mike.

I have a grouped report in my database, and I also have a few fields with sliding and part-shrinking enabled in the body. How come I cannot use sliding to remove excess space in the header? The field inside the header shrinks fine; it's even set to "Also reduce the size of the enclosing part". But despite this setting, the header remains the same. Does sliding only apply to the body? To non-header parts? From what I've read here, sliding tends to act a bit strange in Filemaker. Many first recommend trying to recreate the report from scratch (no copy-and-paste); even after trying that, I do not see a difference. Thanks in advanced. : SlidingProblem.zip

Hi We use filemaker 6 on windows 2000/xp We have been printing out labels successfully for some time though there's always been a slight annoyance. We use the 16 to a page avery J8162 (A4) labels and these print fine. Apart from on certain USA labels the label on the right hand side, 2nd from bottom develops an extra line break between two of the address lines. This happens on every page where that particular label is USA. On other labels, Germany etc this doesn't happen. And the rest of the USA labels print fine. The problem doesn't appear when you view the labels in preview mode either. Anyone know what could be causing this? …

I am trying to make a printed report containing data from 3 related files for a cancer meeting. The three files (Treatments, Investigations and Pathology) can contain variable number of records. This works fine in Browse mode using portals and this is how the meeting is run. At the end we need to generate a report for filing in the patient history. Printing a list view of each means I need 3 pages minimum, when the amount of data in most cases will fit one page. I've tried putting portals in a report, but as the number of records varies there is either a lot of empty space or not enought portal rows. Any ideas appreciated.

hello anyone, I have this application running on the filemaker server 7.0. In my script, I remove the ability of specify the option "Print Range" from the users. When the users print, they only can print out 1 page regardless there are more pages, since the "Print Range" is always "from 1 to 1". I am creating a Master Bill of Lading report and need help with a prticularly sticky issue. The report will be broken down by Vessel, Ship Date, Destination and Container. Each item in the container will then be listed. This is the problem. Every item has an SED number and what I'd like to do is create a footer that is printed whenever the destination changes. In the footer I would like to print a calculated field of the all the SED numbers concatenated together for that destination. I am a FMP 5.5 user and have been for quite some time. I recently updated my OS to Mac OS 10.4 and FileMaker works fine, except for one minor problem. It is having extreme difficulty printing to my DYMO LabelWriter 330. I either get nothing to appear on the label, or the bottom line of the address at about 30+ point font. Has anybody experienced this or have any idea what I could try. I've gotten the latest DYMO drivers, updated the OS, and tried every printing orientation and adjustment I could find. I have a suite of excel spreadsheets that plan and run my production. I have a new Filemaker database for my quality documents. (my new IT guy is filemaker mad) I want to trigger printing the quality documents from my excel spreadsheets. Hi, I have a question regarding a problem that i've really been trying to solve, but with no succes. I have a layout where the users add articles to a list. Then they should be able to print that list with some other baisc info. And my current soultion isn't a good one. Cause right now i have a "printing" layout with the basic info and then a portal displaying the same list as the users added to. The problem is that a portal has to have a fixed number of rows (?). So when a user ads 4 articles everything works ok cause thats less than the number of rows in the portal. But if they add 100 articles only the first 20 will be visible and printed. How can i mak…

Well I think most people are aware that filemaker 7 can't change printers on a windows machine even though it is supposed to. Everyone except the Filemaker help line techos in Australia that is. Has anyone found a suitable work around. The redistribution license for the only real plugin to fix this problem is rediculously expensive. I have found a suitable way to print to pdf and have the document open as the front window. I intend to use it as a print preview that can be saved or printed if required (through the pdf viewer). I can't print envelopes using FileMaker and I'm really hoping someone can help me. I'm job hunting, and I need to send out good looking envelopes! I have a database of my cartoons linked to my art files which are 600 dpi TIFFs. When I print them, the graphics look fuzzy. The text prints great, just the art is bad. Is there a way to change settings in the picture box? I scale down what I print from the original file so the quality should be good. ?:

I would like to be able to output a summary report from preview mode to a text file. I have no problem printing it to a PDF file but then I have to open it in Acrobat and "Save as Text". I work on a Mac and in the old, OS 9 version of Filemaker there was a Chooser extension called Print2Text. There doesn't seem to be anything similar for OSX. My solution has a set of layouts that may or may not be used. Is there any way to selectively print only those layouts which are used. For example, have a radio button to print. Only those layouts where the radio button was selected would print. Thanks, Rick

I have a layout which has ten 'pairs' of fields, a header field and an items field. The number of items can change for each pair and sometime i dont want them to show at all so i use sliding and all that works. The only problem I have is that when it is more than a page i get half of the title field of page 1 and the 2nd half and the items on the 2nd page. How can i make it only show how fields, not just the top half and bottom half and ideally, only show the 'title' field of theres enough room for the 'items' field too?

Hi. I'm hoping someone could help me with this... My Report Layout has two types of fields: Text and Calculation. The calculation fields rely on other tables in my database but the only relationship to the other tables is through Product ID (text). All the text fields show up in the Preview mode but none of the calculation fields show up except for the first item of each page of the report. If the report is in Browse Mode, each item shows all of the fields correctly. Am I missing something?

I have a FM4 solution upgraded to X, and the clients went from 9.1 to Panther. I am trying to print 1400 pages. There are 2 tiny graphics, a simple gif logo and a gif signature. If I print from XP, the pages spool at 10 per second, and print at the speed of the printer, eg 40 pages per minute. If I print from X, the pages spool at 1 per second, then there's a long pause, then they print at one page per minute. If I remove the images, the page prints fine, as it did in OS9. One more thing: the PC prints the graphic rather roughly compared to the Mac, so is there some way to tell the Mac to lower its standards? Otherwise I'll have to get the graphics pri…

I'm having an issue trying to print out labels. Scale is set to 100% in both the layout view and the printers page setup and when I print it, it comes out of the printer (and Preview) scaled down to about 1/4 the size it is supposed to be (100%). It comes up this way no matter what printer I select (some Post Script some not). It makes no difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, here I go with the explanation, I hope to be as clear as I need to be: I have a database of artists, clients, invoices, etc. I need to add a contract, this contract is about 3 to 4 pages long, but the information and clauses differ from one to other, so there are minor changes each time a new contract is done. The contract grabs info from the artists database and the fields are filled automatically. Now the big question here is: How can I make that when printing the contract, the layout resizes automatically so it only prints the pages that the contract needs?. Hi I am working in an office with 2 printers. One is an HP laserJet and the other is a Sharp copier with print capability. I have some reports that have to print from different trays on either of the two printers. For instance, I have envelopes in tray 1 of the HP, letterhead in tray 2, and a bix stack of red yellow pink presorted. On the sharp I have legal and plain letter. The details aren't important. While I am relatively new, I am learning fast. I am using Filemaker Pro 7v2. OS is XP sp2. I just spent hours and hours figuring out how to filter a portal using a date range and an ID. Got it to work and all data shows correctly in form view. Unfortunately, now my print view is completely blank? My print commands are grayed out. It is only on this one layout. Before, when my portal data was not correct, it would print fine. What am I missing here?

I have a solution made up of 10 - 12 layouts each of which will print 2 - 3 pages. I need a finished document that can print everything, in order with one button click. Can I do this without designing a "Print" layout that pulls from the other layouts? Also - some layouts will have no information - only field labels and should not be printed. I'm at my wits end. I'm trying to print out a layout to my Xerox Phaser 8200 printer. I'm using FMP 7.0v3 on Win2000. The problem is that I need to print on Legal size paper in Landscape mode and I need it to print close to the edge of the paper. I print other layouts on Letter paper and in portrait mode and close to the edges without any problems, but the other mode isn't doing it. When I come across the printing problem, it looks like the print doubles up on itself near the edges. Items print, but over other items. OK, I'm not getting this whole printing thing. I've tried this six ways from Sunday but haven't gotten it to work yet. I have a file of items and each item can have any number of charge records associated with it. It's very similar invoicing where you have line items. So if I define a columnar report with grouping bsed on the "Items" file and use Item Number as the group field, I only get the first record in the Charges file to show up in the body of the report. If I setup a report based on the Charges file and use the associated Item Number as the group field, I get all of the Charge records but the report does not start a new page when the Item Number change…

I'm having a problem printing a report. Basically, I have some elements that I need to keep grouped together on a single page. If the group elements are going to break to the next page, I need it to put a line break before the beginning of the group. I know most of you guys know what I'm talking about. Hi, One problem I'm have with upgrading my accounting solution is printing. When I run a script to print a report, the window always displays the layout I'm printing. I never had this problem before and I don't want the print layout to display on the screen. I want the screen to stay at the layout where the user clicked the print report button. I usually accomplished this by using Freeze Window then switching to the print layout and then back to the orginal layout. This seems to not work anymore. The user always sees the print layout then gets taken back to their original layout. Any ideas? Thanks, Randy

Hi. I am trying to figure out how to page break conditionally in order to keep a group of items together on one page. Basically, I have a docket report which contains a sorted list of lawsuit numbers with the names of the parties in the body. Docket Report Suit 1400 - Plaintiff 1 VS - Defendant 1 - Defendant 2 Suit 1402 -Plaintiff 1 VS -Defendant 1 I need to keep the suits grouped together. I don't want the page break to occur between the party names. How can I set it up to where it will move the entire suit header to the next page instead of splitting it up?

Can I set up my file to only print fields that have data in them, or exclude from printing fields with no data? Thanks, Rick

I've been with FileMaker for quite a while (it wasn't even "Pro" back then) and so has the split line problem... Up until FMP 6, the problem was that a line (sometimes several) would not print at the bottom or top of a page when printing a record with a single field spread over several pages. I have funky issues with how print sliding seems to work sometimes - causing odd gaps between items - this happens in v6. Does this still occur in v7 or has this been fixed? Also, 6 has a problem with multi-page documents printing when they are all on the same layout. To work around this issue I have had to create each page on its own layout. Is this still a problem in v7?

I'd like to print a FileMaker Pro report to formatted text instead of paper. The reason is that I need to take the formatted text and place it into an Adobe InDesign document and retain the ability to edit or modify the text and formatting within InDesign. I've tried using the export feature, which is very cumbersome and won't give me the exact output I need. I've also tried printing to a PDF, but when I import the file into InDesign it breaks all of the tabbed text into individual objects. In my Mac OS 9 days I remember being able to do this. I am printing out a "contract" from a current record. If I go to another record and do the same print, all the spacing is off. The next print print the first line on the next page at the bottom, etc... Any fix?

Help, My fields span multiple pages and on *some* of the records on *some* of the pages I receive clipped text. For example I have a job description with 1, 2, and 3 duties listed. If the 2nd duty spans across the two pages it may show up on one page, or it may disappear. The 3rd duty, however, continues on, along with the rest of the field onto the next page. Some of our line item's description contains multiple lines (.e.g. specs of the item)but some only contains single line. My question is... I have developed a solution for a restaurant. From the database they want to print out a menu from their client's selections. Some events have 1 choice, some have 2 choices, and some have three. I want to print the selections with an "or" inbetween the choices or if there is only 1 choice, no "or" Does anyone have any suggestions to accomplish this while keeping spacing equal and proportionate? I have several printing layouts. One requires a switch from portrait to landscape. I accomplish this by a script which changes the orientation. I then switch it back to portrait after which ALL the spacing in my other layouts are moved requiring me to relocate EVERY object. I kave grouped and locked the other layouts but it still changes. In Preview it looks fine, but when I print I get only one page. Even when I say, print all. The menu help offers, "select print as found set from popup menu." I don't see no popup menu. Hello - the following affects Mac's running OS 10.3.x and 10.4.x and FileMaker Pro 6.0v4 I work at NIEHS where we have FM Pro for Mac and PC licensed. One db I distribute widely is to track credit card purchases. Each credit card holder gets a blank copy to open locally which in turn accesses a related db with shared Company names/addresses/phone numbers. The local db is called "IMPAC.fp5" and the server db is "Company.db". The users like to print credit card orders by a range of dates. I have a form with data being compiled and inserted into a layout using the Set Field(..) command. It previews well but will randomly NOT print words in the middle of the report.(leaving the area blank) If I insert the same calc into a container field it will all print, every time. However, I have type commands( bold,font change ect....) that will not print out of a container field. I didn't want to use the container field, I was just experimenting to see the results. Hello, I have this strange problem in FM6. The first time I open FM an account will not print but is recorded in FM as having being printed. The printer just does not respond (Canon i550). If I delete this recorded account (or just print a duplicate) and go through the same procedure it prints as it should. Hey all I'm trying to get this print script to print 1 report, and 2 additional reports if certain conditions are met.. both additional reports rely on seperate conditions. The thing is.. one of the computers that needs to use this script has to select a non-default printer to print from.. and so after choosing the printer for the first report, the additional reports print out through the default printer for that computer. The process was to be automated so that you just print the 1st report and the additional reports will be printed as well without the need for anymore additional human input; for efficiency. I am looking at using a Star or Epson pos (point-of-sale) thermal recipt printer with fm7 for my shop. Can I assume that as long as I install the Win Xp drivers for the printer and set up a layout , I should be able to print a recipt out (in other words treat it like any normal printer) . I ask this because when I look at the specs for these sort of printers they list print formats that I don't understand/recognise. Is anyone using this type of printer with Filemaker? Thanks

I'm using FMP Dev 7 not so much as a data base, more of a graphical schematic for designing MATV systems. I'm sure there must be a simple way to have the right hand pages print but I can't seem to find a way of doing it. On some records I want to print just the one page on others I might need 5-6 pages to print & the layout for these means I need the right hand pages to print. I don't know why one of my existing file didn't save the print setting after I change the paper size via [Print Setup] (Whatever it is done by script or manaully). And, it only happens in 1 file only, all the others are working fine. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to resolve it? I've tried, 1. Recover the file 2. Make a clone file then import file from original file. Fyi, it will be work if I change to different printer then change the printer back to HP6L. So strange!

I need to know of a good impact printer that will work with FMP 6 across multiple platforms (OS X, win 98, win XP, os 9) and will print on three-part forms. I have a file developed on Mac OS X, with lots of layouts for various reports. On the Mac, these layouts are all printed at 80% landscape, with custom margins (to provide a slightly larger margin at the top, for binding). I gave a copy of the file to my boss, who is on Windows XP Professional (2000/ServicePack 2). She is unable to get any of the layouts to scale onto one page. She has tried reducing the font size of everything on the layouts so that she can print at 100% landscape, but this hasn't worked, nor has trying to rescale on the page setup options. I have a file that contains product info. In each record is a reference to a pdf file that is located in another folder. I need to be able to read through all records for a selected product and print out the corresponding pdf's but I am not sure how to go about doing it. I know I can click print when a pdf is displayed but in this solution, the printing needs to be automatic. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

When I print from a database containing images it takes more or less 2 GIG's of spool file before printing 40 pages (12 images each page) (at the lowest printer quality). Images are jpeg and they weight around 1 mb each. What's more, if I change the name of the folder where images are stored in (and so filemaker doesn't obviously outputs the images but it just outputs the box with a phrase inside saying "I can't fine image001.."), if I try to print it takes more or less the same spool file room and the same (very slow ) time to print. That's a strange fact: a friend of mine gave me a filemaker database (Filemaker 7 - win xp) to fill with simple records in which there are one image and some text fields; whenever I try to print (menu' file-print) the current record or selected records, it comes out a windows saying "print to file" and it leaves the space to fill with the file name. No way to print to the printer. If I make a simple filemaker 7 database by myself (in the same computer) the printing is OK and it prints. What can be causing this??? If I include a graphic in my header, only the header will print, once I remove the image from the header, the body plus the other header information prints. So for example, if I have set the portal to cater 10 portal rows, it will only print the portal rows that has data in it and print everything below the portal straight after that last filled portal rows. From the user point of view, I'd like the solution to behave like the document is a single thing. Users have requested the option to customize reports by choosing which sections of a report they'd like to see. Is there a practical way to do this? Example: A "full," default report has sections A through H (each section is stored it a seperate field) - users would like the option to only see sections A, B, E and H. How can this be achieved? My Initial Guess: I'm thinking that I could have a switch field corresponding to each section of the report - "Y" indicates Print it, "N" indicates do not print it. Each section defaults to "Y" - but the user could opt to change a given section to "N" - but I'm not sure how I'd make the layout function conditionally. …

I have a form with lots of input fields on it. When I print the form every thing lines up perfectly except for a few fields, curiously enough all on the same line. The leftmost field lines up OK but all of the rest of the fields on the line are sliding to the left. The fields are laid over the top of a free form text object. It's important that the fields stay where they are because part of the free form text are underscores, which is where the fields are supposed to be positioned. In Browse Mode they look perfectly aligned, but when I print the form the above mentioned fields slide left. All the rest of the fields on the form, and there are plenty of them, line up …

I have an INVOICE database and when I want to print hte invoice i am viewing - i go through a script that takes it into PREVIEw mode - i know that if I "PRINT CURRENT RECORD" it will print hte one I am viewing, but is there any way to make it that when it goes into preview mode, it shows me the invoice i am working with, and not to the first record in the database? On some of my layouts ONLY the Portal data and auto entered data is showing up in Preview mode but everything prints OK when I print it to the printer. What do you suppose is going on? I guess that's better than the reverse situation, but I'd like the option of using preview and being able to rely on what I see. I am printing to a shared LaserJet 4 Plus (HP). All, I inherited an FMP 5 application with some repeating fields on it. I created a report layout using these fields but something strange happened. The last repeating field on the layout truncated the data in the field, which it didn't do in preview mode. So I expanded the field width to way more than necessary but still the data was trucncated. Instead of Willa S. Young it would print Willa S. Found that strange, got frustrated, and replaced the repeating field on the layout as a merge field. Then it didn't truncate the data anymore but I lost the lines between repeating values. The other repeating fields had no such problem and appear to be working just fine. …

Hi! I've written a multi-layout database to produce customised forms showing client data. The Script I've written outputs a seperate page (up to 68 pages in all) for each call which works fine when printing directly to a local printer. Unfortunately my brief has now changed - I have to produce a print/file (or .pdf) containg all pages for printing either at a later time or at a distance. I'm not sure I've explained this well - at the moment I generate say 68 individual .pdf files that can be printed as and when, what I want to do is generate one file containing all 68 pages (made up from a number of Layouts). Can this be done and, if so, how?
