  2. I have set up a text field as a button script so that it takes me to another layout when clicked. But sometimes I want to enter the field instead and have therefore set the script so that holding down the shift key will go to the field instead of switching layouts. This works fine in principle. However, the script is disrupted if the conditional formatting for the field is set in a particular way. In those cases the shift key doesn’t work and I get a 102 error. I’ve attached two files. In Format1 everything works as it ought to. In Format2 I have the shift key problem. The only difference between the 2 files is that the conditional format command for the t…

I have set some fields to change font colour when certain conditions in other fields are met. This works most of the time. But some fields in some records do not operate the change when the condition is met. In some records the change happens, but in others it doesn't. This is independent of the layout too (i.e. same problem with the same record in different layouts.) The only way I can get the formatting to work is to clear the relevant field data in the problematic record and then retype it in. Then it works. But this doesn't work if I copy and paste the data, or copy it to another field and then copy it back, or if I use the set field command, so there is no…

Has anyone tried using Get(PortalRowNumber) in a Conditional Formatting calculation? I'm using a text box to fill the same color as the background if it's not the first portal row. The formula Get(PortalRowNumber) > 1 does not work. The formula items|TRANSACTIONS::_p Transaction ID ≠ GetNthRecord(items|TRANSACTIONS::_p Transaction ID;1) does. ITEMS is the table for the layout and items|TRANSACTIONS the related table. The second formula does the job, but is not as pretty as the first. Can anyone confirm that Get(PortalRowNumber) doesn't work with Conditional Formatting? And know why not?

Now that we have conditional formatting (or perhaps it was possible before), is there a way to specify a color in such a way that many different layout objects throughout the database are automatically assigned that color? So if you gave a particular event database a different color theme each year, you could change this color once and have all of the layout objects that use the color change to that new color, instead of having to update each background, button, etc., individually. There are lots of ways that might work: you could write a script that changes all of the colors, which you could run once when you create the database, or use calculated fields that would …

Is it possible to hide a button based on a condition? I know you can 'hide' things in various ways by covering them up or using a container calculation. However, I not only want to hide the button I want to make sure people can't click on it when it's hidden or at least that the cursor doesn't turn into a hand. I have a table where we can 'set' records. The idea is that we enter a record, set it, and any changes from that point on are tracked. So I want the button to be visible while it is unset but once it is the button should get out of the way. Thanks

  9. Hi all, I have a FMP database that tracks artwork for a London gallery - images of various pictures and information about them - all fairly simple and straightforward. One thing I'd like to do, however, is to drop a big red SOLD graphic across all those images of pictures that have been sold - leaving those unsold images just as they are on the main layout. It'll need some sort of script that, say, if the buyer_name field is empty then the image remains as is - but if that field - or another chosen field that means the same thing sale_date or something - is filled then the SOLD sign drops in somehow across the image, or becomes visible across it. I can think of no …

  11. Kind of a long question, hope this is the best catagory to post under. I am working on a label printing estimating /quotation database solution. Part of the solution involves calculating how many labels will fit on a sheet and drawing a simple sketch of the label layout. example: sheet size 8"x12", label size 3"x4" (These sizes will chage with each new quotation.) For the sake of this example I will say there is no space between labels and we can print right to the edge of the sheet. First we determine how to orient the label on the sheet to get the best yield. If we orient the 3" side of the label to come out of the 12" edge of the sheet we can…

Hi Again, I'm getting close to a deadline and would like to try to solve a few remaining minor issues. First, is to do with layout. I've got a series of screens that present either film clips or slides, where the screen real estate is valuable - so I can see good reasons for removing the status bar. Obviously I can navigate between records with simple "Next" and "Previous" arrow buttons on the layout. However, sometimes it would be good to know how many records I have in my found set and which record I'm currently on - information that the Status Bar always gives me. Is there a simple way to access this info and make it available on the layout. Since FMP already does …

  16. Hello, all-- I've applied conditional formatting to a merge field but I'm not getting the expected result. The formula is simply this: Length (firstNameField) <6 If this condition is met, I simply want the font size of the merge field to grow to, let's say, 24pt. That's how I've got it set up in the "Conditional Formatting/More Formatting" window, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm in Form View, btw. I must be overlooking something very simple. I am building a little billing program for the people I work with. Some of them are paid on a daily rate and some on hourly. I was thinking of making a radio button to select one or the other. Then I would like to have one field for data input regardless of whether they selected hours or days. Based on the value selected, the data input page would have a label for "Hours Worked," or "Days Worked." Can my version of FMP recognize a field and adjust the text in a label automatically, or will I have to build two different data input layouts?

  18. I've been running into a problem with conditional formatting that I am hoping someone can help me with. I have various fields that I want to turn different colors based on formulas. What I've found is that if there are too many different colors and if the formulas are too complex, then the conditional formatting gets stuck somewhere and won't work as I want it to. Has anybody else run into this problem and if so what did you do about it? I'd really appreciate the help. I should probably add that I'm pulling information from a lot of different tables to create the formulas. Let me give an example. Let's say I have a date field that I want to turn: - r…

OK, so I've figured out how to change text and field attributes, but how do I change the fill color of a simple rectangle object? The Conditional.. dialog says "dynamically change a layouts object's formatting..." Is a rectangle not considered a layout object? The Conditional.. menu item is grayed out when the rectangle is selected. All I want to do is if a field value is "Yellow" change the rectangle to yellow... I'm sure there's something I'm not seeing... Does anyone know if there's any good documentation on conditional formating yet? It's hard to find much on it!?! Thanks Dave

Hey everybody. I have a list of employee records. Because of the way that our payroll system is set up, each employee has 9 records in this table. The table consists of the Employee ID, their name, an earnings code(that is used by our payroll system), and a number(the amount of time in this earnings code) - to name a few. When looking at this list, it is sorted so that all the records associated with an employee are grouped together. What I would like to do is color the groups of records, similar to alternating the backgrounds of a portal row or list view. I can color them no problem, but what I can't figure out is how to tell my calculation that the last …

Hey all, This may be a pretty dumb question, and I'm not sure of quite the right forum section this should be in, but I feel I should put this out there to those a bit more knowledgeable than myself. I have asked my boss to get a copy of filemaker 8.5 advanced, so I could have access to custom functions and other niceties for development purposes. She got us approved, however, she approved us for 9.0 advanced. We already have 8.5 deployed on several computers (about 7 of them), and upgrading all of them to 9.0 is probably not an option at this point. Now, here's the question. Can you develop solutions using 9.0 that are usable in 8.5? The only experience I…

My application makes extensive use of conditional formatting but I can't seem to make these colored formats visible on any of the machines except the one that generates the conditional format. THE SITUATION I have a script that changes a value in a related field, which then updates the calced cost value for that record, which then updates an unstored calc in the the current TOG which is equal to SUM(related::cost). The script then checks the the SUM value to make it is greater or equal to zero, else roll back value etc etc. The SUM calc is on the layout the change button is located on. THE PROBLEM: The SUM field is conditionally formatted to turn red when less than zero. I have a columnar type layout that I use to manage work orders for my cabinetshop. The initial formatting for all fields is black fonts with white fill patterns. If the value in PRIORITY field is set to "hot" I want all of the fields in the record to display in [color:red]Red Fonts and I want the fill patterns to remain white. If the value in STATUS field is equal to "In Process" I want the fonts to become black again but I want the fill patterns to become green. Is there a way to conditionally set this formatting to switch from one format instruction to another? Thanks for any help, Jarvis

I just checked my notes from DevCon, and it seems sad but true: Client formatted text overrides conditional formatted text. So -- we are still forced to create calc fields or use to display data cleanly for a report? Or did I miss something? Is there some way to set a field to refuse or ignore client formatting (other than key command to paste unformatted)? I'm also thinking of using a replace or loop command to strip it on existing data. (Client had been pasting text from all sources, retaining many fonts, color and sizes.) I can try to teach them to paste as unformatted, but the existing data is a mess. I'd like to fix with the least amount of fuss.
