SuperContainer by 360 Works
Discussions on how to implement and deploy SuperContainer by 360Works.
SuperContainer is a Java web servlet which allows you to upload, view, and download images and files from a web server. In conjunction with the FileMaker Web Viewer feature, it is an effective replacement for container fields in solutions which require users to read and store files associated with records in FileMaker. I have been using SuperContainer for some time with no troubles. Now my FileMaker databases are not seeing the SuperContainer URL. When I try and access the standard url of 127.0.0.1/SuperContainer using Safari on my web server I get the error: The request URL /SuperContainer was not found on this server. I have validated it is there, as are all of my files (whew). I have checked permissions for the Shared directory with SuperContainer directory in it and I think all looks fine, though I am not sure what they should be. It is running on an Apple Xserve with Server OS 10.5.8. I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions. I downloaded the latest SC versi…

Hopefully there’s a simple answer to this… I’ve only been using SuperContainer for a few months, and I’ve got our solution working pretty well, but I’m having problems with the security features. (Everything works fine if security isn’t turned on, and I’m running 2.77 on the server and as a plugin) For the following examples, assume I’ve activated the security on the server, with the username ‘name’ and the password ‘pw’. I’ve got a script that sets the base URL on startup, trying to include the username and password as follows: Set Variable [$result; Value: SCSetBaseURL ("http://name:[email protected]:8020/SuperContainer/Files") OR Set V…

I recently upgraded my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I must now re-deploy SuperContainer, which I had been using quite successfully. I downloaded the latest version of SuperContainer (2.77), moved the files to an unzipped file, and clicked on "SuperContainerServer.jar". I get the following error message: "Cannot run SuperContainer Server: java.lang.runtimeexception: logging directory is not writeable, please verify that the Files folder is in a folder SuperContainer can write to." I'm not quite sure what this means. Any thoughts?

Per the documentation, the first recommendation for printing images stored in SC is to use the SCGetContainer function if the plugin is installed. But when I use SCGetContainer the image fills up the entire size of the container field. The width and height dimensions parameters specified for SCGetContainer do not seem to have any impact on the image size. The image prints at the same size regardless of the parameters. My understanding is that if the parameters are smaller than the dimensions of the container field on the layout then the image would be printed at a smaller size. Am I misunderstanding the role of the parameters? Thanks, Will

I cannot get the installer.jar to actually start the server. It says it installs correctly and I have carefully manually installed too. I have the directory c:/x86 Program Files / and is where FileMaker Server is installed. This is Server 2008 and manually starting the SuperContainer as a standalone works fine. Is the X86 directory path an issue? What am I missing. I have instructed the manually started Super Container to use 8020 as I have Crush FTP on 8080. Hello, I'm experiencing some erratic behavior on a client PC running Windows XP, that I do not see on the Mac. Here are some examples: 1. In list view, sometimes they can only scroll using the scroll button for 2 records, then it stops. It may start up again if you scroll down with the scroll bar, then stop again. 2. Some images are not scaling to fit inside the container, but others do fine. Then when refreshing they may scale again. 3. Sometimes the images won't show up, just the file path is displayed. It just seems less fluid on the PC than on the Mac, but I have PC users who need to use the system. Are there recommended JAVA settings,…

Hi everyone! Apologies in advanced if the question has been posted before. I tried the search and couldn't find anything useful. Anyways, I have tried to set up the SuperContainer in my server. One of the steps is to set up the path of the SuperContainer Server which is http://serveraddress:8080/360SuperContainer/Files by default. When I run it locally, which means I put the local IP address of the server as the server address, it runs smoothly. However, when I try to access the SuperContainer from an external network through its external address I get a message showing a "Custom Error" message. Is there any wrong in my configuration? How do I get i…

I have a database of images with a few fields to give more information about them, and a serial record ID number. The database is now moved to a commercial server (360Works) and I'm trying to add a web viewer using SuperContainer. I created the web viewer field and for the URL I put in "http://mydatabase.360works.com:8020/SuperContainer/Files/" & mydatabase::slide number This seems to go okay. But then I click on the Upload button, select an image from my local drive, SuperContainer uploads it, and then displays the error above. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Ok, I am doing something wrong or have missed something. Clean Windows 7 Professional installation, FMSA11 installed and running then tried to install SuperContainer (2.76). The installer jar did nothing so I tried the manual installation. Everything in correct place - SuperContainer Folder only, not the full unzipped folder - and the uriworkermap.properties file amended. Restart computer and nothing loading when I try and go to 127.0.0.1/supercontainer, 127.0.0.1:8080/supercontainer or 127.0.0.1:8020/supercontainer. Nor using the actual IP address. IWP working, Server admin console working. What have I missed? Thanks Tim

Hi, I have a list layout. When I put a webviewer linked to SC on the layout I lose the ability to scroll up and down the list with scroll wheel. This behavior is same on Windows XP and Windows 7 clients. Running latest version of SC and FMP11. I have tried a number of different style settings in the SC URL and none seem to have any affect. I have replaced the webviewer with a calculated field populated via SC Plug in and scrolling now works fine - although slow, I would prefer the webviewer but need scroll wheel. Any idea what might cause this behavior. Thanks, Ted

A few weeks ago, my MacBook Pro refused to boot. What transpired is unimportant, but the problem was resolved by installing a clone of the hard drive. No data was lost and I was able to bring things up to date with the periodic backups. However, since that time, the drag & drop feature of SC does not work. Everything displays properly and ends up where it's supposed to. I can retrieve everything properly. But, I have to use the upload button to add anything, and that becomes somewhat annoying when I need to change the contents because I have to delete and then drill down again to the file. Is there a plist somewhere I need to trash or a setting or param…

In previous versions of SuperContainer the webviewer didn't have a top and left borders. In more recent versions it has appeared. I spoke to someone from 360Works at Devcon in August and he thought the borders might be caused by something inadvertently left in a CSS file somewhere. Any ideas how to remove these borders? I can see the webviewer image in browse mode but not in preview mode. I have created a test.fp7 that only has one record, one layout with one webviewer so it isn't an issue of Preview mode jumping to the first record. I am running FMPA 11 v2 on Windows 7. I've removed all the plugins but that didn't help. Of course this problem does not occur on my Mac. Preview mode used to work correctly on my Win PC and I don't know when this issue began. I suppose that I could try different restore points but am not optimistic that will help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Will

I'm trying to print a multiple page report of images. Each page is a basic contact sheet, 4 x 4 grid (columnar report). Super Container appears to be loading (something) for each image on each page. The report is an average of 25 pages and seems to process. However, I am getting gray blocks in the print out that say "Connecting to Super Container" vs. the expected images. I've been making Filemaker Pro databases from version 1 to 5.5. I wanted the relational capabilities of 4D but that didn't arrive until FM 7. We are having issues with the SuperContainerCompanion Plugin that you may be able to direct me how to fix. This just recently started happening. Greetings - New to SC. We have SC running stand-alone, love the core graphics rendering, all is working fine. I could not find in the documentation how to manage uploading multiple files. Well, what I mean is, in the documentation it says What we want is to be able to upload a directory of items and have them stored as discreet files, OR most importantly, be able to access them as discreet files, each with their own URL. What am I missing? In the above example from the documentation, how would I access MyFavoriteFlower.jpg after uploading CoolStuff to Files/19? Many thanks, Michael

Hi Guys, I work for a company which is transferring a number of its key processes to filemaker databases and allowing staff to access them on computers and iPads through IWP. I’ve been working around the IWP issue of not being able to convert a record into a PDF. I’ve created a server side script which creates the PDF on the server. But, I cannot reference a file in IWP, it has to be inserted into the database to work so I am stuck. In my current solution I have a 200-pixel wide 3-row 'chooser' portal alongside an equal height single row portal. This generates a portal that can be scrolled quickly to find the desired image. Clicking the chooser portal row filters the main portal so it matches the chosen image. I want to be able to use the SCGetContainer function to access the thumbnail versions of the files SC generates upon upload. The container data would then be exported to allow the user to send an email with the thumbnail version of the file, instead of the native file. Any way for PDF annotations like HighLight, Underline, etc show up in the WebViewer? I'm running SuperContainer as a standalone App on my xserve 10.5.8 server. It renders the PDFs for me. I do a Get Info on the PDF on the server and the thumbnail in the Get Info window includes the annotations. The PDFs render as if the annotations don't exist but when I download or doubleclick the WebViewer for the original they're there. Anything I'm doing wrong? Thanks! Dana Using version 2.748

Running Supercontainer 2.748 DEMO on a Windows 7 PC with Filemaker 11 Developer Advanced. File uploading works correctly and I am able to see images or file icons as expected. When I click on the container field, I get the appropriate viewer displaying the file. However when I close Word 2010 down after displaying a stored Word document, either the icon for this word file remains displayed in the web viewer for every record in the dataset, or the web viewer displays as a black rectangle. This only seems to happen with Word 2010 documents, not with PDFs or JPG images. Any suggestions? Thanks Brian Rich

I've had SuperContainer quit on me occasionally and require a Relaunch. It's happened twice in the past 10 days and maybe once a month in the previous 6 months. According to memory, every time I've checked it out, the OS (Leopard) has updates to install. Could be coincidence, could be an issue. Just wondering if anyone else has this experience. I've turned off automatic updates, and we'll see if it happens again.

Hi all, I am trying to do the standalone installation of SuperContainer on Window Server 2008. As soon as I click "SuperContainerServer.jar", an error dialog pop up with this message: "Cannot run SuperContainerServer:java.lang.RuntimeException: Logging directory is not writeable, please verify that the Files folder is in a folder SuperContainer can write to." Does anybody what "Files folder" is it talking about? What permission does it need? I even try to install SuperContainer using "Installer.jar" but that does not seem to do anything either. I know Window Server 2008 might have more built in security which might cause the problem…

Hi all, I am going to install SuperContainer on a Window Server 2008; however, there are 2 installation options that I am still not decide which one to use. One is "Using Supercontainer as a standalone server application" and the other is the "Installing SuperContainer with FileMaker Server Advanced". Does anybody know the pro and con of each option? I thinking of the standalone installation as it is the easiest and it would not affect FileMaker if SuperContain has a problem. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hopefully this is simple. I'm trying to SCDownload RawData file(s) to my desktop. I get an error when I SetBaseURL using "/RawData/" instead of "/Files/" and SCDownload does not accept the full path. I'd much rather use the SetBaseURL because it keeps my Username & password hidden. What I know how to get the actual PDF file instead of a JPG. Double click on the WebViewer ; Right Click on the WebViewer and select "Save As" ; Put the Full Http path using /RawData/ into a Web Browser and then save it through the Web Browser. All is fine but I want to be able to Automatically save say Found Set of 10 PDFs to a folder on my Desktop. Can I use SCDownlo…

Has anyone attempted this? I'm running FileMaker Pro 11.0v1 on a Citrix XenApp 6.0 farm. I've installed the plugin and run it on my XenApp account without issue. Now when another user launches FileMaker the plugin isn't loading. Under preferences when I check mark the SuperContainer plugin to enable it I get the following message: "SuperContainer Companion Plugin" could not be enabled. Not very descriptive..... I did attempt to give other users full admin rights to the server but that didn't help ether. Any ideas? A.J.

Hi there, I've just upgraded from SuperContainer 1.x to the latest version in order to use the PHP API for my CWP site running FSA 9. I am using tomcat, so the port for the server is 8080 instead of 8020 like in the documentation. I have my php files on a server with the curl libraries enabled. My PHP code is as follows: <?php include('includes/supercontainer.php'); $sc = new SuperContainer("http://www.myserverurl.com:8080/SuperContainer/Files"); var_dump($sc->getError()); ?> The page looks like it is loading for a bit and then just stops with a blank page. I do not get any error messages, and the var_dump for the getErr…

Just downloaded and I am trying to install. When I click on installer.jar I get a message "Can not find Filemaker Server Web Publishing Engine, Please make sure Web Publishing engins in instaled and try again." The web publishing engine is installed and working. The C: drive on my server was very small when it was setup by manufacturer so Filemaker Server Advanced is installed on D Drive. Could this be why Super Container can't find the Web Publishing Engine and if so is there a way around it?

I can not get SuperContainer (v 2.746) to display content in a WebViewer. It works fine if I navigate to it directly via Safari but the WebViewer just gives me the java coffee cup with the circular arrows. I've tried hard coding the URL into the WebViewer as well a using the calculation engine and neither works.

New to SuperContainer but quickly learning how awesome it is, even beyond a FileMaker tool. Not sure where to start, but I'd like to remove the 'Upload file' button and replace it with a background image that centers in the Web Viewer. Users aren't quite clear that they can simply drag a file onto the container and keep clicking on the Upload button, so I'd like to replace it with an 'upload' icon/graphic with flat text that says 'Drop file here'. Thanks, Max

I have SuperContainer configured to point to an external file server to store documents (ie: not on the same box as FMSA) I can upload a file using the Web Viewer successfully. I can see the file icon in the Web Viewer and I can see it on the document server. We have a system that opens up another window with a SuperContainer web viewer on it. There are two buttons, one that save the record and closes the window, and another that simply closes the window. On windows 7 using FileMaker 11 that close window step causes FileMaker to crash. We have tested this, and it only happens on layouts where there is a SuperContainer web viewer on the layout, and it only happens on windows 7 with FileMaker 11. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Our SuperContainer server is at version 2.746.

I have been trying to run FMSA 10 on a Dell server using Windows Server 2008 without much success. I have constant problems with the IIS service suddenly stopping for no apparent reason. I decided to see if I could improve the situation by installing Apache 2, although it is not officially supported by FileMaker. It took some doing but I eventually got it up and running fine. Now the only issue I have is that one of my databases relies on SuperContainer and I get this error message in the container: "Not Found The requested URL /SuperContainer/Files/Properties/143/1 was not found on this server." Nothing else has changed. I've moved the server root directory from inet…

Can anyone help? Supercontainer is running on a windows 2003 server (Supercontainer 2.744). No issues with anyone using mac and PC connecting except one user running XP (Java 1.5) keeps getting the following message when Supercontainer tries to connect. Line 7, img is undefined. Comes up with the debugger. If he cancels the debugger, the pdf shows in the web viewer. If he goes to another record the same error shows. Any help much appreciated. Looked through the 360works docs, google search. nothing I can find. Cheers

I'm trying to figure out a way for my end users on IWP to be able to upload a folder of images to Supercontainer and then have a script that separates the images into individual Supercontainer folders so that the end user can then add titles, tags, etc to each image. It isn't practical for the end user to upload one image at a time. I know that when a folder is placed in a Supercontainer it becomes a zip file. Is there a way to then script the unzipping of that folder and moving of the files to individual Supercontainer folders? I also have FTPeek if that will help in the solution. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the bother, but I'm a first time user of SuperContainer having trouble with installing it. I hope someone in these forums can help. I've recently upgraded to Server 11 Advanced and have downloaded the latest SuperContainer (2.742). Ran Installer.jar from the local hard disk (not network drive). Message says "An unexpected error occurred during installation". I then followed the instructions for manual installation, and SuperContainer appears to run, but only in Demo Mode. There wasn't any opportunity to enter the registration code (presumably this would have been part of the aborted installation process). What may be relevant is that I seem to rem…

When I run SuperContainer Server locally, it says "Enabling OS X core image processing" in the log, but when I run it on a file server it says "Core image processing is not enabled". What's the difference, and should it be running on the file server as well since both machines are Intel Macs running Leopard? Thanks in advance!

Hi, We are looking at SC to check if it fits our needs. We would like to know if it's possible to send the files to an external server? We have actually a VPS running FMS8 (Which will be updated to FMS11.) and a website hosted somewhere else. Is it possible to run SC from the VPS and send the files in a directory on our web host? Thank you PS It might take times before I answer back since I'll be in vacation next week.

Hello - We're using SuperContainer to store images for use in our FileMaker database. Now we'd like to start using those images on our public website as well. Is there a way to reference images stored via SuperContainer without having the user get a pop-up -- asking them to approve an applet or requesting unrestricted access to their computer? Both "RawData" and "Files" URLs seem to require approvals.

Looked around and couldn't find this question, so here goes... trying out Supercontainer looking to incorporate it into some of our client sites... testing in office with FMS10 on OS X and several Mac, Windows and Windows via Parallels machines. Everything works fine on the Macs, but on a Windows machine with XP or two virtual Windows machines via Parallels on an MBP (XP and W7), I get an "Unable to load preview for this item: Could not create directory" message when going to a layout with a Supercontainer object on it. What am I missing? Thanks, this is great on the Macs - but all our clients are 100% Windows, servers and desktops, so I need to get comfortable …

Hey guys, We are increasingly running into issues with our customers and their use of supercontainer. The only thing they have in common is that they all use proxy servers. They get the attached error. Is this a simple matter of the customer's IT department allowing that website through their proxy? From the error, it seems like it might be more than that(java.io.IOException). Any thoughts would be appreciated.
