I am still trying to build a calendar database. For the body of every calendar day, there is a repeating portal that lists all the event records from another database that corresponds to that particular date. The only field inside that repeating portal is the events title. That field is also a button that, when clicked on, opens up the event database and shows that particular event. That part works fine, when I click any event button, it takes me to the right event record. However, the title listed on every button is always the same as the first Sunday's first event. I have created a client database (FM 3) that I am wishing to alter to be able to include invoicing options. The way I have it set up now is that each client may have any number of sessions (records) in my client record database. Client info (address, etc.) is looked up from another file. I have been producing invoices from doing finds and sub summary sorts in my client records file. I would like to change it to have another file produce invoices based upon portal records already created (related to) in my client records database. Here is what I need to accomplish: I need an order entry screen which includes the following items: Quantity Product ID Description Price Extended Price I need to be able to make multiple entries for products (like a standard order form). The Description and Price fields are related from a Product file using Product ID as a match field. The only fields actually entered by the user are Quantity and Product ID. I am building a calendar database. I have one database that is the calendar itself, and each day has a repeating portal of events that occur on that day. I have made that repeating portals buttons, and I want to be able to hit the button which will take me to that particular event, which is a record on a different database. I don't know how to go from one databse to another, select that particular record that is represented by the button/repeating portal, and have only that event show. I have two files called A and B. File A: fields: Project ID, aNumber File B: fields: Project ID, Amount, CalcNumber Fiel A and B related by Project ID In layout of file A, I have a portal that display multi records of file B. Let's say the CalcNumber= Amount * File A::aNumber. That's mean whenever the value of aNumber is changed, the CalNumber is changed, too. Hi folks! I need to design a DB which allows an administrator to easily see what kind of hardware and software is installed on all of the computers in his office. I therefor created four files: (1)Station, (n)Computer, (n)Hardware, (n)Software; where (n) are the files containing the details for Station. I have three 1-n relations set, which seem to be correct. The only problem is that I get all the hardware which is used on the Station, but only one softwaredetail. The softwaredetail shows me a different program for the same station if I sort the file. Just learning this db and having a lot of fun with the relationships. I have created examples of one to one relationships and understand the portals to display the one to many. I still have yet to discover a good example of why I would want to use a self-join. Would it not be quicker to create 2 files and define a one to one or does it utilize less cpu to perform a self-join? I guess I have hit a wall because I don't understand how you define a relationship between different match fields. I am still thinking the fields must be equal. Hello all... Here is my problem... I have one database 'time manager' that tracks hours worked on a certain job. So, you type in the 'job number' and then your hours worked on that job. In another file 'job critical', the job information is stored. It is also used for tracking and estimating. I am trying to link the two... I want to be able to go to a cost tracking layout in job critical, type in the job number and have it go to time manager and go to the hours worked summary field - grab the total hours worked on that job and update the field in job critical. File 1 has basic information on applicants to this program, and file 2 has follow up dates and relevant information for this program. I am writing a new layout inside a technical support database and need to allow technicians to enter the Catalog Number of the product that the client is having trouble with, and have the Name of the product appear in a second field. I'm trying to create a project directory from a database containing all of the company's contacts. The difficulty is that, in order to determine which contacts should appear in a certain field of the directory db, I need to use TWO fields from the contacts db. I need to specify ProjectName AND ConsultantType-- for example, on the University Hall Project Directory, in the StructuralEngineer field, I want to find and relate to all people in the contacts db who have University Hall checked as ProjectName AND Structural checked as ConsultantType. Hello: I am attempting to make a very simple relational database in FM5. I have defined my relationships, setup my portals, and all was working fine. However, after closing out of the program and re-opening the database, I can no longer add records through the portal into my relational database. The error it gives me when I attempt to add a record is "The relationship [] is not valid and must be corrected before this field can be modified." It seems to be filling in the portal with the appropriate records, it just will not let me add any new information. Hi, In one database, I have our current price list for each product defined as a global. For example, the field "S30" contains the price for a "Standard 30 minute Interview"; "S60" for a 60 minute, etc. In the second database, new jobs are logged and tracked. I've already created the calculation based on the length and type of interview which give me a text result like "S30", or "S60", etc. What I want to be able to do is then create an InterviewPrice field which looks up the value in the price sheet as defined by its name. I am setting a product database with standard item name; sku; description... Since these are clothes, I would like to add suggestions to the same record. A second sku and name field would be added, in which I can type a sku and the name would appear in its own field. So I would like it to look up in its own database. Again, since I'm a beginner I'm still having a hard time getting some points; bear with me : I'm trying to do a simple calculation where if the "enter date" field is between the 1st and the 15th the "display date" field reads 8/15/00 for example. And if the "enter date field" is after the 16th then the display date should reade 8/31/00. I also have a "date override" field where any date I input here should appear in the "display date" field regardless of what is it and it should display itself as such, like 8/2/00 without being rounded. Another database with order info such as name; address; etc, and the three previous fields related from the products database. And a calculation field names total which calculates price*qty. I've set up a relationship between two files based on ID numbers in text fields. Since information unique to each file will be shared with the other, I've established the relationship in both files. The match field is a unique record ID (number field) that is assigned to each student. Fields that contain personal information such as name, address, home phone, parents, SS#, age, DOB, etc. from the main file appear as ::name, ::address, ::home phone, etc. in the other. I thought as soon as I entered the correct record #, these fields would fill in. None of them do. I've indexed all the fields and made sure that the match fields are the same kind. I have attempted to make these two FileMaker programs connected to another program through relationships, so that I can open the information from both programs (both of which have the same names in them, just different other information). I've just recently begun to link our companies databases, but I keep running into a problem. I am attempting to create one master Barcode Database receiving data from four different files therefore I'm assuming that they should be linked by BARCODE NUMBERS,- however upon attempting to create a look-up in this master file, I am given the notice that "This lookup uses the field "Barcode" in its definition. I have been designing a database in FMP 5.0. I built a database that has 6 seperate tables. The master table has an SSN and a first and last name. This the SSN is a unique identifier for the entire database. The master has relationship with that SSN for all tables so the identifier in each table is also the SSN. My problem is that these relationships should all be one to many relationships. Well I have a form that I built in the master database where you need to enter most of the information for the tables. I am trying to work out a multiple match-field realtionship, which is based on the following setup: master file related file ID ID TYPE TYPE etc... etc... I want only records from the related file where both fields match! Any "easy" way to do this without having to use a join file, portal or self-join (some of the possible solutions I was told)? I have a script that performs a find, then does some other things. I want it to finish by creating one related record for each found record, setting a particular related field to info put into a global field in the parent file. I can do this the hard way by shuttling between the parent and child files, with multiple scripts. Is there an elegant way to accomplish this (such as a "new related record" command, or some such)?

One rather simple question that I don't seem able to resolve: Can FileMaker 5 do simple left joins, in the classic RDBMS sense? I have created and inventory tracking database. Within the database I have a few portals. I would like to do finds on portal rows. Basically what's going on is that I have a database of "inventory transactions." The portals are taking information from that database. I want to omit all the portal rows from a layout that doesn't have a purchase order number, po number is a field in the portal row. I'm a landscape designer. I have DB of clients and a related DB of plants that I use in designs. I want to be have a list of the plants that I use in each clients design appear in one of the layouts of their record. I want the list to include several of the fields that are in each record in the plant list DB. I also need include the quantity of each plant used in a client record. It seems to me the way to do this is to copy the data from the fields in the plant DB into a repeating field in the client DB. I want to create a dbase with several selections on a master list. I want to use a bar code scanner to enter the code in a field on the master list. I then want to use the bar code to initiate a lookup input from an inventory (look up v/s relational dbase) list and enter the data that would match the bar code into the field which it was originally entered. I won't need the bar code for anything else but the initial look up. I have a structural problem with a database designed to track print design projects, when a project gets edited by designers the time spent is logged before finally getting sent to a printer. The tracking database also has an invoicing system that is really the marketing departments budget. The problem is this marketing department decided they want to assign a project number to all of their costs not just designer expenses. I'm currently rebuilding a rather entangled database for a friend on a mac. It seems he has about twenty necessary databases but he's constantly upset about having to toggle between half these databases. I'm rather an intermediate level developer and am having some trouble figuring out the best way to reconstruct his information so that he only has to utilize one window for viewing, entering, deleting, etc data. Please help. I am developing a database to manage logistics for a concert production company. I have a table for individual inventory items, and I have a table that groups items together. For example: 10 Individual pieces of sound equipment gets grouped into a rack of gear called AFXRACK. Once the group of items is built, the idea is to put AFXRACK on to my reservation table so that 10 pieces of gear can be reserved using only one model number. Hi, I want to create a relational database using FM Pro 5.0. My general problem is that I need to specify fields in a matrix format for multiple files (which represent different experiments). In my master file I have a master ID that gets auto-assigned. The master ID will be the match field for all related databases. I'd like to place a button on the on the master page that opens a new record in a related database, while pulling the specific master ID across. Hi, I know these questions are a bit dumb, but my boss wants our system to do stuff that I don't think FMP can do. Can you please tell me if these are possible: 1. Set a limit on the length of a field, ie a field is 7 characters long and will accept nothing over this (this I think is possible but have no idea how to do). 2. Set the data entry format for a date. I have a database of restaurants that have menus in the database.. which I have on the web... right now someone can choose a city(s) and a cuisine(s) and it will list the the restaurants then when the click on the restaurant the menu appears..
