FileMaker Server General Discussions

I currently have a solution with 5-6 different files and I'm trying to find a way to make my app work when all 6 files are served by filemaker server. Can I use relative paths instead of specifying the server/filename or would the files be opened by filemaker pro itself and not served by filemaker server, which could end up causing corruption? I'm worried about my solution being moved to another machine someday with a different ip# and the program basically losing all the table links between the different tables if the links aren't stated as relative.

I am not happy with the way that FM displays the results from a database search or study on the web interface. Some of the fields are a little crunched up. What is the best way to solve this issue?

Hi! This is a very embarrassing question. I'm about to install Web publishing services for FileMaker server 7 Advanced. Everywhere in the documentation FileMaker is referring to something called "FileMaker Server Admin Help" that describes several steps in the installation procedure. But what and where is the "FileMaker Server Admin Help"? I can't even find it!

When I attempt to connect to a Filemaker server host from FMS Admin Tool, I get "login failed" What login and how do I change it? There does not seem to be any functions available in the tool at this point other than to Connect. I am running Win 2K Server and have FMSA Updater 2 installed. This is a really frustrating problem.

Just a gripe...all the work to get FM7 server out, and still no way to schedule within FM server scripts to run witin FM databases. One would think it would be a SIMPLE matter to have added the ability to schedule a database file and script name to run. But just an observation. Anyway, I have a script that I want to run every 30 minutes. I really can't use the plugins Events or Activator since neither will run as plugins directly within Server. And I don want to have my FM databases open on another client machine just to have these scripts run. Is there a way to have one of my database files that is being served up by FM Server 7 run a simple little script every…

We use filemaker on a dual processor G4. 25 people use the databases in our building, but the databases are also accessed from the internet via lasso and webstar. After being in the database for about 20 minutes you are likely to get kicked out and get the error message: communication with the host has been interrupted and could not be re-established. error 1072. Any help to stop this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Can anyone tell me if I need FM7 Sever yet? Setup: I have a Custom Data base that runs off of a super fast machine. Really a Sever in it self... you know raid 2gig ram and 3.6mhz pent 4. I have three users including myself. (two of them remote by way of Filemaker Network). I run into trouble sometimes when the other users are in a file and in a field... so I can not change it until they leave. I am using FM7 right now alone with the rest of them. If I go to FM7 Sever will I be able to work off if the machine like I am now? or do I need to put it on another machine and tie into it like they do? Any one help me? Joseph

So I've been asked to install filemaker on a server for the folks at work. Haven't used the program before this week, but it seems to have installed okay. Unti I try and fetch the http://server:port/FMPro?config page, or indeed any other page from that server. Then the browser times out. Investigating why this might be, I telnet to the port and try to fetch the page manually: GET /FMPro?config HTTP/1.0 I type, and then hit return twice as expected. Sure enough, nothing. So I hit return another couple of times in frustration and THEN the page comes back. Very odd. Every time it requires THREE empty lines before it responds instead of the expected one. Lo…

Moved files to FMS 5.5 for Jan 1 on a Win NT4 server. A few days ago I closed Master Name file on the server and added 2 layouts to it and buttons to navigate to those layouts. (Changes made at remote computer using XP Pro) Then opened file on the server again. Today I noticed that when the file is opened using a main menu, the changes I made were not there, none of them. If I bypass the menu and open the file directly by using Explorer, the file shows with the new layouts etc. However, there are 114 fewer records in it than there are in the file when opened by the menu. Sems as if records entered from certain remotes were not added, or is there a ghost copy of my f…

I have been having problems with Server Advanced. I have it installed on Windows 2000 Server. I have people accessing the databases from iwp and as clients. The problem is when a client is in the file and for no apparant reason the database shuts down. Sometimes there is a message that the communication was lost with the host but mainly it just closes the file. I am running out of possible solutions. I put the files up on Windows 2000 using only FM Pro and then I added server 7 but not advanced. The client that used the file never had a problem. Why does it work fine without out server advanced? I know I need server advanced for people to access the files by iwp…

We are running Filemaker Server 5.5 on a OSX dual 2.0 desktop machine. Last night we had a blackout while the server was running. The UPS unit ran out of juice and shut the machine down after 5 minutes while no one was here. Of course, all our database files were corrupted and it took 3 hours to rebuild them this morning. Our UPS unit, a Belkin Office 750AV, has software that will enable the computer to run a script to shut down applications during power interruptions. What I'd like is a script that will kick in when the UPS goes into battery backup mode. The script would shut down the FM Server, wait 3 minutes for all files to close, then close FileMaker S…

We are currently using FM pro 6 with FM server 5.5 on OSX. Our database is desined to download a file from a webshared folder on a computer using os9. For instance, when i click on our button to download a resume, it goes directly into my download folder, and then opens for us to view it. lately however, it down loads but when you look at it it's a random name of a person we looked at earlier that day, but not the persons resume. so thinking that I screwed up in scanning, I go to the main computer which hosts this file and check out the file. it's fine. everything is the way it should be. however back at my computer, I'm looking at a totally different file. We have a file with about 15 tables. When you add a new calculation field in 1 of the tables, it takes almost a full 5 minutes for it to finish adding. There are only 300 records in that table, with 177 fiels, about 75 of which are calculations. Any idea on why it is taking so long?

I know that FileMaker comes with the great ability to be able to send and recieve xml. PHP has the ability to send XML. With FX.PHP it is possible to connect PHP with FileMaker. I'm, however, not sure if FX.PHP requires a FileMaker server. This should not be a problem to me IF Filemaker Server 5.5 has the ability to send and recieve xml. I am a newbie to Filemaker and have not yet been able to find any info on this. The set up I am using: i have a MySQL database which i want to connect to a Filemaker 6 Unlimited database (to keep them both in sync with eachother). What i am asking: - Has Filemaker 6 Unlimited the ability to send recieve xml? - If so:…

Following situation: FM7 Pro on Windows 2000, FM7 Server Advanced on Mac OS X Server, both machines in the same subnet. When doing an "Open Remote ...", "Local hosts", the correct name of the server, but a wrong IP address: 254.128.0.0, is shown (or fmnet://254.128.0.0/ ). No databases are displayed in the right column of the Open Remote dialog. With a second try of "Open Remote ...", everything works as expected: server name and IP address are correct, all hosted databases are displayed and can be opened. With FM7 Pro on OS X client, one directly gets the right server IP address and all databases are displayed. It seems that something goes wrong when F…

I see that using Instant Web Publishing within Filemaker Pro limits list view to five records at a time, and table views to 20 records at a time. I'm wondering, will switching over to FM Server or Server Advanced lift those limits? What I've got is an existing database that presents data, for lack of a better description, in sort of a spreadsheet format, with each row being a separate record. It already exists, and I don't want to rebuild it, but the client wants to be able to share it on the web. Being limited to viewing 5 rows at a time won't cut it they need to see maybe 30 or 50 rows at a time. Any input or ideas would be most welcome!

Greetings, I am new to setting up FM databases and server etc.. I'm Setting up a FM 7 server on a W2k3 server . I have set up a bunch of test databases to test the permissions etc... I set up the external authentification via AD, which wasn't working till I did the update, but now it is... at least sort of. I have followed the directions from the help and online files for setting up permissions on the databases. It seems to work as far as seeing the DB's that the users are supposed to see and have access to, but.... no matter what priviledge set I use..including new ones created, users all have full access to the databases. And ones that they don't see, if…

I am trying to use the command line tool fmsadmin to do a live backup of a file hosted on FMServer 7. Here's the command I tried: >fmsadmin backup filename.fp7 -d ../backup But when I run this I am prompted for a password. I tried the password I set for connecting to the server but it doesn't work. Neither do any of the full access passwords used in the file. I am running the command on the server while logged in as a member of the fmsadmin domain-level group. My eventual goal is to script the backup of a file then rename the copy, move it back to a data directory and then open it, all from within FileMaker. While my ultimate goal may not be possib…

I am hosting files on FMP Server Advanced on a OSX Panther server. My FMP files (databases) work as they should in IWP, but do not when using the XSL sheets made by the site assistant (builder) that came with Server Advanced. The files worked well in FMP6 IWP and in CDML before I converted them to FMP7 files. I did not try to convert my CDML files, I started fresh with the site assistant (builder). I can search, etc., with no problem, but when I try to add a new record, only the fields that are "calculation" fields work. All of the fields that are "auto-enter" fields do now work, or in other words, do not auto enter a calculated response...they remain empty. …

Ok we upgraded to Server 7 so we can have more than 5 users on at one time, but now we can not publish the files to the web. I don't think there is a way to do it other than going with advanced server. My boss thinks otherwise. First I tried running both Pro and Server on the same box. The option to share on Pro is grayed out. Next I installed pro on a windows server, and then connected remotely to the Xserve, but I still could not share. Now I am trying to place the FM file on another server, and have both the windows box and the Xserve serve up the same file. When I go to the FM Server admin and pick another DB path of a mapped drive, I keep getting an invalid path erro…

Does this mean FM Server 7 supports ODBC/JDBC on Mac OSX now? Can FileMaker 7 products act as ODBC/JDBC client and/or data source on Mac OS X? FileMaker Pro 7 can be used as an ODBC client. In addition, FileMaker Pro 7 and FileMaker Server 7 Advanced can be used as a JDBC data source on Mac OS X. See the download area to obtain the files necessary to add this functionality to your product. A FileMaker ODBC client driver for the Mac is not yet available. FileMaker intends to provide this functionality in a future release. For earliest notice of more details on these plans, please subscribe to FileMaker Now newsletter. This problem just started yesterday and is getting progressively worse. I have numerous navigation buttons using the "Go to layout" function, where the target layout is designated by layout name. Recently, some of my users have experienced failures with this function. Instead of taking them to the designated layout, it is taking them to the very first layout in the list. I have not changed the layout names and cannot duplicate the problem on my computer. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

First some background. I have been using Filemaker for about 5 years, mainly for solution development at work. These various databases are in version 6, shared over a company network using Server version 5.5. Due to the purchase date on our license, we received a free upgrade to Server 7 and Pro 7 licenses. Current problem: I have an XServe (running 10.2.8) that I would like to host a web based registration database on for an upcoming school reunion. I would like to be able to have classmates update their contact/registration information without my need to post this information manually. I would like to do this with Filemaker. Using Server 5 and FMP 5.5 - I'm running into issues where one client runs a script to update certain fields and that change may take quite some time to appear on other clients (haven't verified whether it is all clients or just some). In particular, on printing an order I set certain fields to indicate an order has been printed. Errors are written to a log in a separate file just in case, for example, someone is editing an order and has the record locked. I also have a script that prints all 'unprinted' orders. User A can print an order and the fields appear to be set correctly on that client (indicating the order was printed). User B prints all unprinted o…

Help! I have a user who lost their network connection with the Filemaker Pro Server (7). Now, when they try to log back into the database, it refuses saying that someone with that same ID is already logged in. Lo' and behold, the server still shows them logged in to the database. When I try to disconnect them, nothing happens. This happened yesterday, and I ended up having to close all the databases (which took several minutes) and then reopening them. Today I've got multiple folks logged in, and we're working against a deadline. How do I force her off the server, and why did this happen? Thanks!!!

I'm trying to install FM Server Advanced (the Web Bublishing Tools and Engine) on my Mac OS X 10.3.7 box (it is up to date, and has Java 1.4.2 Update 2 installed). I get an error message saying that Java 1.4.1 Update 1 is required, and cannot proceed. Java 1.4.1 Update 1 was released by Apple Sometime in 2003, long before Server 7. Java 1.4.2 Update 2 was released 9/24/04, and I'm sure is part of all Mac OS X updaters. Can anyone provide a clue on what I need to do to install this. I can't find anything on FileMaker's pathetic site. Was trying to do this without using a chit. TIA. Marshall

Hello, We are using FileMaker 6 and accessing a FileMaker Server database. I have found a script step called Open Hosts that the help file say the following about: *************************** Open Hosts script step Opens the Hosts dialog. (This is the same as choosing File menu > Open Remote.) This dialog allows you to select and open a shared FileMaker Pro database over a network connection. Options: None *************************** So how to you tell it which host to open? And how do you get the script to be run from a desktop icon? Any comment or response is welcome.

Install Filemaker Server Pro 7, After loading FileMaker Server 7, we are then loading FileMaker Server pro 7. When we go through the loading process we get prompted to put in "CD #1". We assumed cd #1 is the Server CD, which we found out that is not what it is. We then put back Server pro cd and it still prompted for CD #1 ... I work in a hospital, we have several clients running Filemaker. When running this program on the new subnet we have problems connecting automatically ("%insertpathhere%Filemaker Pro.exe" %insertserverhere%%insertdatabasehere%.fp5). We get the error could not be found. But other clients connecting directly to a mapped drive (e.g."%insertpathhere%Filemaker Pro.exe H:pathherefilehere.fp5) works like a charm... But, if connecting from within the program, browsing through hosts and telling servername everything works fine to server. So wondering if I'm missing something? Or is this a command not working on WindowsXP? Facts on old setup: Windows NT 4.0 SP6a TCP/IP…

Have a client w/ FMSv7.02 newly installed on a W2k3 server. We're a mac shop AND unfortunately we're 750 miles away from. Sent them a set of fmp5/6 apps to install. FMS has been patched to v02 and FMP client appears to be functional as they CAN open the SAMPLE FMP file. However, NONE of our files (sent on CD and via email) once xvrted from v5 to v7 are accessable to users. User is getting asked for user ID and passwd (which sounds to us as an OS permission issue). The geek on their end has indicated that xvrted files are NOT read only, ARE at the same level as the FM sample and HAVE the same permissions as sample. Not completely PC saavy AND not seeing wh…

We have recently converted to Filemaker 7. We are running Filemaker Server 7 on OS 10.3.6 which is hosting all our databases. When performing a find in a field that is a calculation which references a related file the find does not work. I can see the data and sort on it - but not find it. I have tried removing the file from the server and opening it locally, in which case the find works! Even when the related file is still open via the server. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere. I searched, but did not find. . . I am using Server 7 Advanced (new user) and I was wondering if one can set the backup feature to do "archive" backups. That is to say, rather than overwriting the backup file each time, can it maintain separate files for each backup, allowing the administrator to return to the database(s) in previous states? If this isn't possible, any recommendations (short of doing it manually) for (semi-) automating such a procedure. (I use Mac OSX). Thanks for ideas!

My problem has been at the "tier 2" level of FM technical support for 3 weeks (since 11/29/2004) to no avail. Hi - I'm new to this group. I'm having a crazy problem and don't know how to solve it. I'm nearly illiterate in the world of filemaker but have a good grasp of computer stuff in general - so please be patient. Here's the issue. The extent of any work I've done with FM server is to go into the console and stop/start/restart the server itself when we lose touch with it on a windows XP network (TCP). However I tried this today and when I went into the console and click on the admin/networking icon as per usual all I get is a setup assistant. This kind of freaks me out. Any idea what might have happened or how I can restore control?? thanks MUCH. Jonathan Dewdney

I finally figured out WHAT was causing a persistant problem I was having; Configuration: 30 user network of FM 6 (mixed OS X and OS 9 clients). FM Server 5 on OS X (10.3.5). Serving 25 files. What would probably be considered "very light" traffic. What was happening; The server would "mysteriously" just STOP... Open the config app, click start, and away it goes... but then after a day,or two, or three (seldom longer).. it would just stop again. What I finally figured out.. The log shows that the last 3 times it "just stopped" happened to be RIGHT after a backup schedule finished running. The last entry in the log is "backup schedule complete". So …

I have a question about adding Advanced to FM Server 7. I see under the Summary button in Server 7 Admin. There is a place to enter the License key for the newly installed Advanced. This seems to change the status of the web publishing engines to "Permitted." What I don't quite understand is under the configure button, There is a spot to add FileMaker Web Publishing Engines. 1. It allows you to only add one. This implies that others can be added. Why would others be able to be added? 2. What is the purpose of the Identifier and passcode? After that, the coworkers would connect to the database via their desktop and they would not be prompted to login and provide password! yet their permissions are still set on the file. is this because the file got trashed? Any insight would be appreciated. thanks in advance sincerelry, J__

I'm new to fm server 7 and I am wondering if it is possible for a client to access a file using something like internet explorer from the server. I do not want to access it via fm pro 7 on the client's computers. If so how can this be done? I'm totally lost. Thanks

Until yesterday we were running filemaker 7 server (demo version). We bought Server 7 advanced. We un-installed the demo version, got server 7 up and running. I moved over 30 database files to the required folder. All but 3 files work fine. These three files now say "this action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable" when you try to add/edit/administrate...anything!!! I've tried recovering the file. I've tried creating a clone and re-importing. Still the same thing. Help! Does anyone know what to do to fix this?? many thanks....

I have a timecard setup on my filemaker server, and all the employees have filemaker on their computers - so they connect to the server, log into the timecard file, click the button with theire name on it and view their time cards, and finally punch in. That's how it's spose'd to work anyway... A few people have found out that if they change the time on their computer, they can mask the fact that they have been coming in late - because the timecards are taking the time on the users machine instead of from the server. So, my question - How do I fix this so the time is read from the the server and not the user's machine? HELP! Thank You I. Jones

I wanted to share a discovery of mine. I run very large databases 380,000+ records and growing. We had a database that was terribly slow when creating new records. It would take 7-13 seconds to create a record. During the 7-13 seconds, it sent about 4 megabytes of information. What was it sending? Every unique primary ID of the database to the client... so the client can configure out if the record it made was unique or not... What fixed it? I had to uncheck the check for "Unique" values in the field settings. I think it's rediculous that something as keeping unqiue values is so poorly implemented not to mention poor FM backup implementation. This pro…

I recently installed FileMaker Server 7 on a Mac OSX G4 Dual 1Ghz with 2G of RAM. I have everything running perfectly, well almost everything. My issue is when I try to use the FM Server Admin Utility remotely. If I am on the local network, the admin utility works fine from a workstation, and it also works from the local machine (server). As soon as I am off site, I do not have any luck. I get a message the a connection failure has occured. Has anyone run into this issue? I have opened the following ports at the router in association to FileMaker's access: 25003 5003 Any ideas, or has anyone else had this issue? Thanks in advance.

I am running Filemaker Server 5.5 on a MAC OS 10.3 server. I am having a problem with files becoming damaged while being accessed from client computers. I serve about 25 files and once one becomes damaged, they all start damaging. When I recover the files, they turn back into "read only" files and must be changed to "read and write' before they will serve. I access my OS X Server using MACS and PCS running Filmaker 5.0. I wonder if the cross platform is making a difference.

Hi we upgraded from FM Pro to Server, because we have many people who need to access the Files at once. Before with Pro we could publish the files to the web, but after looking around I see that to do this with server we need to get the advanced edition. I was wondering if I could run both pro and server, and have pro host the one file I need to publish to the web. Thanks in advanced for all of your help. Stephen.

Ok, this is an old question, but maybe 7 changed something. I have a multi user database (can't use FM Dev) that is used by 10 people. I want to have FMPro auto open a remote database on a FMServer when it starts. I am currently using a local file which opens and is scripted to open the remote file, but this is just anoying and leaves me with another open file and window which seems to slow FM7. Any new options in FM7?

Hi there, My company have just bought Filemaker Server 7 and Server 7 Advanced and it is driving me crazy . I've installed FM Server and IWP on windows 2003 Server. When I try from my workstation to open our database remotely everything works fine. When I try to access it via HTTP from our LAN then it asks me for a username and password!!! I think its an IIS issue but I checked in the IIS Manager and it has nothing to do with my filemaker file. Also as we are working from our LAN our workstations have access to our intranet with no problem(hosted by IIS). Why in the name of god this thing is asking for a password??? Any help will be appreciated.

Is there a way to keep the "FileMaker cannot share file because FileMaker network sharing is turned off" from popping up. I use FM7 over a Terminal Services (Remote Desktop Connection) in a Server 7 network. When a user connects to the Terminal Server and there is another session running the Remote client gets the notification that the File cannot be shared because another user is sharing the file already. By clicking OK the user can then acess the file, but it's annoying. I had turned network sharing on so that users didn't get the message that appears when the network sharing is turned off and this is the reason for the users getting the message for not being able to sh…

FM Server is 5.5, and I have built a new computer to run FM Server on. OS is Windows 2003 with the latest updates. Computer is AMD 64bit 3400+ Process, with a Raid 0 on 2 10,000RPM SATA Drives. Includes 1Gig of Corsair RAM. Now, the issue I've run into: My users are getting randomly kicked off the server. There has been no specific task, or action on the user part that seems to be causing it. All of the computers on my network seem to prone to this happening, EXCEPT my computer, which I use to develop on. I did some testing to see if my computer was causing the issue, and it happened with mine on, off, in use, ect... When I look at the error that Even…

After reading the thread about FM Server 7 Hardware requirements, I decided to start a separate one about Server 5. I would like to install Server 5 on a 450 MHZ G4 with 768 RAM. There are under 10 databases being served locally to about 8 clients max. Does this sound like it will work out? I realize that I will probably need to upgrade the machine if I move to FM 7. But that will not be for awhile.

When I bring the database to the server and tell the server to open it, it does nothing. and so far we are unable to use the relational database. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? Hi, Not sure if i'm allowed to post my question here because it concerns FMPro's peer-to-peer capabilities and not FM Server really. I have the following situation. An Xserve server and 2 clients, an imac 17" and an ibook, both running Mac OsX version 10.2.8 (being the minimum for FM Pro 7). I've installed one serial number on the server and two different serial numbers on the clients. So, no serial conflicts whatsoever. I've openend 12 databases on the server and enabled TCP/IP sharing. I made sure the databases are accessible to "all users" and they are not marked hidden in the hosts list. I have also disabled all firewall software on both clients. All Fm…

I'm running FMServer 7.0 in OS 10. I'm trying to connect to a hosted database using Windows XP. Everything has been working fine until today. (Usual story, eh?) Anyway, each time I connect to it I get "File has been forcefully disconnected by the host. All affected windows will be closed." When I check the server, sure enough the database is closed, so I reopen it and it closes each time I try to connect. Any ideas?

Hi everyone. First off, let me say that I know all about the fact that running FM Server and Client on the same machine is claimed to be an unsupported configuration. But bear with me anyway.. I'm hoping that someone can shed light on the situtation. We have a rather small database that sees infrequent usage (only some tens of accesses per day). But these accesses need to happen from one of two networked computers, and when they do happen they are fairly business critical. Due to the small size of the network, it doesn't make economic sense to have a separate computer with FileMaker server running all day long. Likewise, since both computers are sometimes us…

Been playing with FMSA and serving up pages to the web. I can put text in a FM field using unicode and have it show up on the web correctly. For example, enter japanese text in the field, view the record on the web, it stays as japanese. BUT I cant get web forms with text entered as unicode to work when submitted back to FMSA. For example, if the field on my form has been filled out using Japanese and submitted, when viewing the field contents in FMSA there is nothing but questio marks and squares. I have made sure that my web pages are set to UTF-8 encoding, but still no go. Now if I copy the text out of the FM field and paste it into a unicode savy application…

I have a question about hardware requirements for Server 7. I would like to host server on an Apple EMac. They sell a box with a 1.25GHz PowerPC G4. It has a 40 gig harddrive and 256 mb ram. I am envisioning as many as ten client stations, possibly also being made up of EMacs. I have a cabinetshop and what I am trying to do is get my solution launched for as small dollars as possible. If it works well I could justify upgrading the server. Would an Emac be appropriate for a starter server? Thanks, Jarvis PS: As a side note: I have an IMAC in the shop right now that I originally ordered the first day they were available for sa…

I have a Tasks database that is part of an integrated solution hosted via Server 7. I would like to host just this database using a copy of Filemaker Pro 7 so that I can allow users the ability to log their time sheets remotely. We are a small organization and the 5 user limit is not an issue. I don't have the budget for Server Advanced. It seems that it is not possible to have the file hosted and then publish it separately using IWP. Does anyone have a work around solution for this situation. Roger

Hi, I am going to be releasing some software to a group soon, which will run on FM7 Server Advanced. I've developed it using FM7 Developer. I was looking ahead and thinking to myself how there are obviously going to be some updates/fixes which need to be done, once it's been rolled out to the users. But once they start entering data, then how am i to grab the database file and then make changes and put it back in without disrupting them? Is it that you use a clone? or? thanks for any help you can offer, sincerely, J__

I have an instance of FileMaker Server 7.0v2 running on Windows 2003 Server. It is a dedicated server that only runs FM. Currently I am hosting a single database and I am the only user connecting to it. When attempting to open the db remotely through FileMaker Pro 7.0v3 the server appears right away, however, it takes about a minute for the hosted db to appear. After the db appears, I can open it fine. This delay seems to very high for the low workload, does anyone know what could be the problem? Thank you.

Currently we are using FM Server 5 and FM Pro 5.5. (Both in classic OS) I have approx 75 files on the server, and between 15 - 18 users logged in at any one time. Sporadically users will get disconnected from the server with the message that they have lost communication with the host, or it just freezes. A couple of times this has affected most users, but never all, and for the most part it happens to 1 or 2 users at a time, with some experiencing this almost daily, others randomly. It is not an overall network issue, because they still have connectivity to the internet and our Apple Share server. In the Server logs the message is always the same "FileMaker Server Warning…

Hello, I have a question that seems simple, but I can't find an answer in FileMaker's documentation or through a web search. I would like to add a database file to my FileMaker Server 5.5 directory. When you add a file, do you have to stop FileMaker Server from running using FMServer Config, or can you just ask all of your users to log out and then add the file to the appropriate folder? Or, does adding a file require none of the above? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi, I'm currently querying our database and I having a hard time understanding as to why I am not getting the correct results in my find query. When i do the query in FileMaker, I get the right results however when I make the same query with an HTTP request, I get the wrong results. I can't understand what is wrong? What I am querying is a layout that has a person's classes, the fields that I am searching againsts is their StudentID (indexed text field) and one unstored text calculated field. Again performing the query within FileMaker gives me the right results. On the other hand, HTTP Request gives me wrong values. Below is the HTTP request fmi/xml/fmre…

Currently we are using FM 5 and all computers are running in Mac Classic OS (At least 9.1, most 9.2.2). We have placed opening scripts under the Apple menu and this is where endusers are used to looking in order to connect to the files on the server. How will they connect in 7 using OS X? I assume creating the scripts is pretty similar. I just need to know where to put them, and how endusers will access it. I have yet to work in FM 7, so I apologize for the newbie question, but any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I think it important to share things that, unfortunately, we learn the hard way. A year ago, I confessed to importing and forgetting to re-set auto-enter serials. That was a hard lesson that scrambled my data. Today, another lesson was learned the hard way ... I've been dragging my feet in installing Server 7 Advanced (for several reasons). Those reasons seem feeble at the moment. Why? Well, for four months, I've backed up our peer-to-peer or LAN or whatever you call it ... 5 networked systems. I backup by Saving A Copy As and have NEVER needed to grab a backup copy. I back up every 10-20 minutes faithfully! Well, that is, until today. This morning, our…

We will be upgrading to OS X (Panther) in the near future, as well as FM 7 and FM Server 7. I would like to set up a test server and client first to see how they interact. We purchased the upgrade option of FM 7 and FM 7 Server. 2 Questions: #1 Not worried about setting up the client because I have ample copies of FM 5 and 7, but I have 1 copy of FM Server 5 with the 1 copy of the 7 upgrade. If I set up a test server is there a way to move that copy to our 5 server without infringing on the license? #2 How would I set up the client and Server to network with each other w/o interfering with the current networked copy of FM 5 Server
