I have a major problem with some of my files 'jamming' after data is entered or simple scripts are run. I get the hourglass for anything up to 20 seconds. Everything in the system works, but with these delays on a couple of the files (out of 17). I think it may be down to the kak virus that I thought I had got rid of. The same problem exists with the same files when transfered (via Zip disc) to other machines. Any help greatly appreciated. Andrew Bruno

I am hosting a set of databases via FileMaker 5 on a Win2000 box. The databases are set up to share via TCP/IP. Sharing works great when I log into the computer with my Admin password. However, this server is also used as a workstation by technicians in my lab, and they log in with their own non-Admin passwords. When the technicians are logged in, the FileMaker databases do not appear to other clients on our network. I set Win2000 security permissions for the database directory to "full control" for all users, but this did not solve the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks, Scott Sillett

The question is: can I have a direct link to the client info in Access? I would like to avoid the export/import routine.

Strangely enough, when the PC file path entered in FM is copied in a Word document, files can be accessed from Word on the PC. The url.dll file is present. in general, is there a way to have files accessible from both PC and Macs despite the fact that file paths are written differently in the two platforms ? 31. I have (chuckle) programmed a game with Filemaker, originally on the Mac. Part of the deal is that some Quicktime movies and sound fx are reside in global container fields which are then loaded into an 'action' container field with a script and played. This all works quite well. Now I wanted to put this on a Windows machine. I installed Quicktime for Windows and it didn't work. What is there to know about it? And another thing - the Quicktime movie and sound source files take about 2.5 Mb. The Filemaker file which holds them (and presumably adds some overhead to this) is less than 400 K. Where did all the bytes go? Is Filemaker also an award winning compression tool?

The majority of the intended market uses Windows machines and I would like to develope it using FMP so as not to have to reinvent too many wheels. Before I invest too much time I'm trying to come to terms with the possibility of a worst case scenario such as a succesfully distributed product (and the support implications of that) and the sudden loss of the underlying software engine. …

Specifically the expire time gets screwed up, resulting in the cookies not being created or being deleted if they already exist. If the expire time is greater than 44639 minutes the problem occurs, independently of browser being used (MSIE, NN, Mac or Win) which suggests to me it's an NT thing. Perhaps a bug in Web Companion? I am using PCMaclan 7.2 and I can see shared files on Mac server but when I try to access databases I get nothing. I am able to log on to server using dial-up with server IP Address set at 192.168.0.1 (SNM)255.255.255.0.. All terminals are set sequentially with the exception of Mac Client used to check e-mail, which is connecting via Apple talk. When I attemt to access host from home (…

  63. Running FMP 4.0 with v3 update on a client desktop, connecting via TCP/IP to remote server. TCP/IP connection made OK, but FMP crashes in the middle of the access sequence. Get a Dr. Watson error that mentions an access violation. Uninstalling and reinstalling FMP and updates on client works temporarily, but fix doesn't work more than once or twice and never after morning startup. Any thoughts out there? Been suggested problem may lie in corporate version of NT modified for security reasons.

I have a problem when starting FMP - it displays Successfully Loaded TCP/IP then hangs for about 10 minutes. Task manager shows that FMP is using all available cpu time. Has anyone seen this before and know of a fix? Thanks

My company has used File Maker for years on MAC computers, but they have decided to switch to PC's. When we transferred the database from the MAC's to the PC the layout on the screen was fine, but when we print a sheet the layout becomes misaligned. We have sheets of data that display operation numbers in one column and they must line up with the operation data in another column. Well on the screen the numbers line up with the data, but when we print the sheet the numbers no longer align with the data. It worked perfectly on the MAC version, but when used on a PC we have that problem. What could cause this problem? Please help.

I am porting a database from FMP4 MAC to FMP4WINDOWS, I rename the FMP Mac file with a .fp3 extension, but the files names in the scripts haven't this extension and the script don't work because of this. Do you know how to globaly change the file name to add .fp3 extension because I have dozen of scripts. I plan to upgrade to PMP5, do you think I will have to modify all scripts an other times (extension are FP5) ?

Hi there, I have a large FM DB used over a network. I do know how to protect the records by passwords - but how can I prevent a user from copying the whole database file into its own PC and then take away an authorized copy? I have tried offering the DB over intranet (web broswer) but it's quite slow and with limited features. Any idea about what can I do? Thanks. Regards Johnny

I am sharing a filemaker 5.0 database from the network server, (NT), and the first person that opens the the database on their workstation gets the message: "You are about to become the host of the multi-user file....etc. etc." I have seen something about a registry mod that will disable that message. Does anyone have this or know what I need to do to disable it? Thanks for the help. If you do, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks again. ------------------ Brian J. Marks [email protected]

Sorry this is such a basic question but please can anybody help! I have a simple database on a small network and am experiencing long time delays when 'guests' are swapping between databases. At present I am using the 'open' command to access another database. Is there a better solution? Much thanks Nick

  73. Has anyone had any difficulty or discovered any bugs with any combination of the following software packages (all on PC): FMPro v5.0, MSWindows 2000, MSOffice 2000, FMPro 5.0 Server? I've got a client that is evaluating an update of 75 cpu's. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks! ------------------ James Medema
