  1. Started by normanicus,

Not for the first time I have found it difficult to locate a button that allows me to post new content. When I login should I not be presented with a big button inviting me to post new content? I clicked the drop-down arrow next to my user name expecting to find such an option there. I then went to the 'Help' and found long instructions about features available to edit a post but no instructions about how to initiate a new post. Am I to suppose that one must first find a suitable forum before the 'New Topic' button is available? If so, what do I do if unsure where my post fits? Norman

  3. Started by Lee Smith,

I'm new to this Forum (or at least our new software) Did we lose the PTs that we had on the old system? If not, how do we see them now. When we send a new Private Message, how do we know that there is a pending unread message, and were can we look at the ones we sent?

I upgrade the server with Sphinx - so the the site now supports full text search, you can find posts with ESS / SQL / LET / GET - you know the 4 character limit has been lifted. However the site re-indexes every 15 minutes so some active terms may take a while to update. enjoy.

I am sorely missing a feature of the previous software, where I could view "new content" as individual posts (not threads) - and each post had a 2 to 3 lines of preview, showing the post's content. This view was also immensely useful for viewing search results.

I click 'Add a Topic' and write my text. I then click 'Preview' and get taken to the list of forums without seeing my post. Tried it twice and the same thing happened. The post has disappeared. Maybe I'm not getting something. On Chrome (latest) using Windows XP.

FMForums has more exciting news with the release of the Downloads Manager. Downloads is open to all members and it provides a feature rich file repository for your FileMaker needs. Downloads But what does the Downloads Manager do and what does it mean to you? Simply speaking you upload files and make them available to other members, either free of charge or for a small cost. I've created 4 categories initially, they are Samples, Solutions and White Papers (PDF), and Plugins. To give you an idea of how it works, I've created a user manual repository and some members have uploaded the PDF manual and made it freely available. Why not add yours now? …

This site is primarily US English, however many of us it may not be your native language, sometimes things get lost in translation. Thanks to Google Translate you can read the forums in your language of preference - to what extent - your mileage may very. Just click on the "Translate" tab found in the lower right on the page. The MultiQuote is not a reference to The Fifth Element –– its function allows you to pick multiple posts from the thread participants and put them in the reply properly "quoted" Just click the MultiQuote for the desired posts It will highlight a different color - then click the REPLY button. All the posts are quoted ready for you to paraphrase and or append. Cheers.

Some links in older posts are no longer functional. AFAICT, a link to a TOPIC works fine, e.g.: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/202466/ But a link to an individual POST goes to the forum's main page*: http://fmforums.com/forum/showpost.php?post/228583/ --- (*) Incidentally, when I tried to preview this post, I was directed to forum's main page too...

The Reply font size is way smaller than anything else. While one size smaller is fine, I feel I have to pump it up in order to see what I'm writing, which makes what I'm replying to really big. Actually, maybe it is that the post text is too big :-] P.S. I'm not sure the Preview Post is working. I clicked it and it just went back to the Topics list, without posting.

Civility (noun) - by my dictionary is defined as formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech I hope we can treat each other with civility and respect. I have been reading posts (and been receiving reports from other readers) and the I can't but help notice the banter, has elevated to a full on sparing match between members - throwing around slight insults and innuendoes, this is not conducive to a collaborative community. I am urging that people start to be a more cordial with each other, stop trying to monopolize a thread. How do I unjoin from here and erase my email address? KJ

As there is such a lot of good questions and even better answers to find and as a forum users wants a specific result from a specific query, I wonder what is wrong with the indexes used by the forum search machine. Recently, I took my new laptop away from home with me. Amongst the many things I hadn't got around to doing was putting my password DB on it. I couldn't log on to the Forum so I ticked 'Forgotten password'. This was quite a few days ago and I'm still waiting for the promised email. Back home now and all is sorted but thought I should mention it. Does clicking that send an email from my machine? If so, that would explain it; I was using someone else's ISP, so no outward email. (Platform Windows 7, which isn't in drop down list.)

For many of us we have a goal of finishing that project we started. Or perhaps it's just understanding a particular feature or function. Well another weekend has arrived and those of us who are going to Devcon no doubt are busy preparing, packing our bags. The forums are busy as well with great discussions. It's a pleasure to see so many here assisting each other in a common goal of of excelling our collective FileMaker skills. I have added a chat room so you can come buy and chat with your fellow members... go ahead give it a try. Also we have modified the Sample Files & Open Source Solutions forum. There is now a customized form for you to fill out and it will format your post. This will make it easier to view when members are searching the all new Solution Library I am sure…

[bigger] Welcome Back! Have a Good Weekend?[/bigger] We've been busy and are very pleased to present to you the latest upgrade of our site. It has been nearly a year in development and the engine we are running (fusionbb) is still a beta software. It is a very well developed software and will grow with us. There is going to be more changes going forward but they should happen more rapidly now that we no longer need to support the old site with it's legacy code. You may need to take a moment to familiarize yourself with the new site, its navigation & features. You may also review the FAQ located under the Help tab. There may be some bugs lurkin…
