I went to reinstall 5.5 Unlimited on one of my servers this morning only to find I have a huge scratch on my CD. I can't install 5.5 or the web connector. 1) Do you think this media is still available from FM 2) Can someone make me and ISO of this disc so I finish installing this weekend? Hi. Please bear with me. A friend of my wife's has asked if I could 'fix' her Filemaker application on MacOS 9.x (not sure which version, guessing 5/6). She bought a home-based aromatherapy business including the iMac and its applications and client base (I guess). The original owner/programmer is unreachable. The problem is, when she prints labels, there is a field that doesn't show in the label document. It's a warning, "External Use Only". I have looked around in page/print setups, document prefs, layout views, etc., etc., and cannot find this field. She wants to modify or remove this line from the labels. Whenever I print, it does fifteen labels well, and then just jumps down about 5 lines and splits a record throwing the sequence of printing off. Any suggestions?

I am very new at FMP. I taught myself so bear with me. I created a database for capturing various information on our Subcontractors. Our subcontractors are on several different jobs. I have a different record for every job that subcontractor is on because different data comes in from each job. When creating a report, how can I have the common data from each record not repeat? Hello, I work in a biochemical production lab, and we use Filemaker v5.5 to archive data regarding our production. As of late, our database has started to become quite sluggish. I have some ideas that may help speed it up, but i need to make an inquiry as to whether one of my ideas is worth the effort. I believe that in large part the database is getting bogged down because of the number of containers in each record, and the enormous size of picture files being inserted by some of the techs. I have a form where I use a pull down menu to select a client. I'd like that to trigger other events too, such as select that client's phone, fax, email and company name in other boxes automatically - currently, I have to do all of these manually. So if I choose client A from the menu, client A's phone etc would appear in the phone area without me having to go there and select it from a drop down menu. I would like to script a routine that would import from an Oracle DB only records that matched the vaule in the gSystemID field. Here's what I would like to do as written as a simple SQL statement: SELECT phone, fax, city FROM installed_base WHERE system_id = gSystemID; There doesn't seem to be any way to insert a variable into the import records function. I have several office databases all clones of an original. I would like to consolidate them into one data set, but allow only an admin and a manager to view the individual records associated with that manager's data. The only real field that is changed is an auto enter signature field and another of a similar nature. If it can be done, how do I go about doing it? Thanks!

Here's problem that has me stumped. I have a giant database of people, with addresses, genders, etc. I'd like to get this to the point where I have one record for each unique household where each household record includes the number of people in the household by gender, i.e. MM or MF or FF, etc. Anyone have thoughts one how to efficiently do this?

Hi All, I am trying to calculate the change between records of the same field - i.e. the difference between Field1 with a date of 1/1/03 and Field1 with a date of 2/1/03 and between Field1 with a date of 2/1/03 and Field1 with a date of 3/1/03. This "difference" could be calculated on the fly each time a report is run or calculated once and stored with the 2/1/03 and 3/1/03 records since they will never change. The last time I used FMP was 5 years ago and I have forgotten most of what I learned. I do remember there was a simple and elegant way to put the field title "in" the field and then once you tabbed into the field or entered data the field title disapeared. I don't think this was done with calculations. I did a search on the web and in this group for the solution but found none. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

Hello there... I have a strange problem in my office's FM Pro v.4. The server at my office hosts all my FM documents and domain clients who access any of the documents have to view them as guests. Everyone's using the same version by the way. One of the documents hosted is a staff personal particulars file which holds all the information about each staff. My job is to simply add in staff pictures into each profile (and I'm doing this NOT from the server but from my own desktop). My question involves multiple applications of THE SAME VERSION: I have FMP6 Unlimited, FMP6-Dutch version, FMP6-Developer, FMP6-English v1 and English v4 installed on Mac OS X 10.3.3. So this is 5 FileMaker Pro 6-applications. I would like to know based on what the Mac OS X decides to open which app when I double-click a FMP6-database. Is it the last app installed? Or is it something else? And can I control that? What I do now, off course, is first start up the application I want, and THEN open the database. And I do a lot of drag-dropping. But I'm curious: how does the OS decides which app to open (since I have 5 more-or-less-the-same)?

I've 2 following related questions of how to terminate an shared FM4 database automatically from the server. 1) I've no problem to scheduled a task to excute a script in a separated FM4 to close/exit a logined FM4 remotely. But my control script doesn't work if FM4 is left at login session. It's because that FM4 is not login yet. is there anyway to terminate the FM4 process either from the Windows or from FM4. 2) If the problem in the question 1 above occured at remote workstation then I can't terminate the FM4 automatically from the server, because the FM4 will ask the guest to logout and waiting for a response of on "Ask" button. …

I am using a script to perform a found set of records; however, I want to be able to go to a specific record in the found set. For example, I'm on the current invoice record for ABC Inc (Invoice #2) and I'm interersted to see what other invoices exist for ABC Inc. I want to perform a search for all ABC Inc invoice records, but once the set of records is found, I want to view the original invoice #2 first. I do a search on an indexed field, then I want to constrain that find by searching on a unindexed field. Filemaker insists on search all the records! This is a huge time waster in my 208k-record file. Is there any way around that? Why did Filemaker do this?

I have been developing multiple scripts over thirty files on my desktop. The scripts point to my computer's IP address. When we put the files on the server hosting FM Server, the scripts are slowed down dramatically because they are searching for the IP address on my computer. Is there any easy way to set all scripts to look for the correct FM Server IP address. The alternative is to open each script and point it to the correct server. Any help would be appreciated. Is it possible for Filemaker to capture and display the IP address of the host machine? There is a remote database I need access to that is on a machine with only dialup. I would like the users of the remote database to start (open) the database, have the file report the IP address, and then the user can call me with the IP address so I can access the file. Wishful thinking on my part? The remote file is on a windoze machine (running 98se) and while I know it is possible to get the IP from the command line, the users of the machine do not know much about computers and even less about windoze than I do. I have a database of projects with one of the fields being a "status" field with "completed" as one option. Is there a way to copy a record that is completed to an archive database and then delete the record from the current database?

I recently upgraded all of the Users to Mac OSX. The computer running the 5.0v2 Server is still 9.2.2. Since the upgrade, Only 3 users seem to be able to get on at a time. I have reinstalled the Server, and the number of guests is set to 30 (was at 15) and I have less than 10 trying to get on. Also, 15 files are open at the server (was 19). I have found a workaround: unplug the network for the user; open FileMaker; reconnect the network; then open FileMaker files. For most this is not a terrible inconvenience. For ex, let's say we have the field price, i would want a field named, say oldPrice, which would hold the value of the field before it was last changed and a priceChangeDate field which would hold the date and time of change. initial experiments with calculations haven't gotten me anywhere just yet... anybody have any pointers? tia

I have a little puzzling situation. I want to create an opener script, but no matter what I do to point to the hosted file in developer, it always points back to my local version rather than using the one on the server. I'm pretty sure this will work on a user's machine where there is no local version, but I can't seem to force it to point to the one on the server from my own machine. I've tried using both the server name, as well as the IP address. I've tried both with and without relative addresses. Never had need for this function before, and had problems getting it to bring up correct result in the layout. I assume it's purpose is to simply put in a text field whatever name you've set the layout to be called. Seems obvious.... But it only brings up the name of the first layout you go to and then stays on that one whatever you layout you switch to. Must be missing something blitheringly obvious. HELP!!! I have inherited a database that was started and maintained by someone who has no database management ability. It is a database used to maintain standardized test scores. What I WANT is one field to show the Grade Equivalent Score and one field to show the Percentile Score. The other person put both pieces of information into the same field !! So, a sample records would have something like "4.5 gr 87 percentile". Is there a way to write a script to take this information and split it into the two new fields? I am an IT Trainer and happen to dabble in FM Pro. Went to a client earlier this week using FM4.1. I was asked how to enter characters with foreign character accents. They are using Macs and Version 4.1. I am a Windows user so unfortunately not sure of how to get Accents on Mac, There did not appear to be an option to insert symbols etc. Hope you can help. We have a daily list which is starting to print data onto the next line; ie over the top of the next record. It occurs when there is too much text in a field. I want it to truncate the view, not flow over. This is only visible on paper,(not in Preview) -and does not always occur! Steve

I am trying to convert a limited range of text answers (strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, strongly agree) into corresponding numberic values (1,2,3,4,5 respectively). Here's what happened: An employee who is not very experienced thought she was "opening" a database when she went to the File Menu (from within Filemaker Pro) and chose "New Database" (instead of the next option down which is "Open Database"). I am very new to using FM, and sadly we are running version 4.1 on a Mac. I need to tally up the total number from certain fields. For example, we keep a record of each print job done and the number of copies in each job. I need the total number of copies for all print jobs. Is there a way to calculate the number of jobs from each record? I REALLY don't want to do this manually. I think I might quit if I have to.

Hi, I'm helping a friend who just installed windows 2000. They use (I believe) Filemaker 5 (could be different.) A few weeks ago, she had a big crash and had to have her hard drive replaced. She reinstalled Filemaker and put in her database. Yesterday, inexplicably, the database showed no info and a window came up saying that the file named "related" was corrupted. Hi there. I can't seem to figure out how to add a conditional statement to a layout which will allow the expansion of the body if a certain boolean variable is toggled. Specifically, this is for a school's database in which certain students need a double address (for report cards, etc). If "Double Report" is set as "Yes" then I want the body section to be twice as large and contain the second address. I have a feeling this may be impossible. Any help would be appreciated! When in the Color Wheel window (from 'Other Color...') there are a heap of little white boxes, or squares at the bottom of the window. I have a few pop-up lists in my database. Is there a way to increase the size, ie the number of values displayed per page? I don't just mean the height of each line, as you can do that just by increasing the height of the field on the layout. I'd actually like to show more values in the pop-up list. Apologize in advance for the probably simple question, but the solution's been eluding me... I have two databases: one contains about 6000 records of sales leads, the other contains about 12 dealers. A dealer is assigned a territory by states; territory is currently defined in the database as a repeating field (up to 10 values; though no dealer covers 10 states, some do cover more states than others). I am having a brain cramp. I have replaced the generic Find Mode with a scripted Find routine, shown below. All steps functions properly EXCEPT those shown in Red. Has anyone reached a limit of relationships between files before they get a performance hit? We have 15 users running all day, with about 25 files - off filemaker server. Currently there are about 15 relationships. Anyone found a limit where performance starts to go, or is there a formula to work out a reasonable maximum? We are running FM 5.0 v3 installed on local machines running WinXP. The LAN is a Novell client where students are storing their data files on a network space. Problem I have a class of 30 students and we are designing very basic databases (15 records, 15 fields and a few pictures, design colours). The majority of the class finds that their files routinely corrupt and their computers become very sluggish and FM stops responding frequently. We have a couple of FilemakerPro files shared on an Appleshare IP volumes. One of the computers accessing the files crashed. One file got damages and trying to open it generates a "the file is damaged and cannott be opened.Use the recover command to recover this file". Using the Recover command (on a copy of the file) seems to work fine , I get the usual xxx kbytes were recovered , 0 fileds were skipped etc. , but it generates a file that doesn't open and gives me this message: "The access privileges in this file have been damaged or possibly tampered with. I've got a problem pulling up a pop-up list. It is similar to a more easily solved problem, but I can't get this one... There are two databases, say District.fp5 and Learning.fp5. Among the many things I care about are two fields in District.fp5, Goals1, and Standards1. Learning.fp5 has only two fields, Goals and Standards. Each goal has several standards. How would you delete multiple records in a script? Also, how would you know where in the table you are? I see no funtion that allow you to move the record counter to the top of the file. Using SQL deleting records is easy enough. But in FM 6, do I have to find the records I want first, then delete them? I have two fields utilizing radio buttons. Each year I need to reset these buttons to the default value I have set. I am trying to use a script to go through the records and perform this task. My problem is that it will reset to no value being highlighted. example is one radio button is "No form" and the other is "Complete". When a button is clicked in Mac, underlying graphics are dimmed. In Windows, however, the area is completely color-inverted. This is really ugly in a database of photographic images, where the images themselves are used as buttons (e.g. to switch between thumbnail and main photo). Hi All, I have a script that finds records for a particular week eg Term 2 Week 1. Terms and Weeks are global fields that another field (A) uses to work out which week of the year that refers to. I have another field ( that works out what week of the year the current record is in. By going to the All Fields layout, copying the reference from (A), going to find mode and pasting the data in (:, the script finds all the records created that week. Problem is if there are no records I get the 'No Records Match' dialogue. If the user hits cancel, they are taken back to All Fields. We are running FMP pro 6 and Server 5.5 with about 25 files on an all Mac network. When users type in text (notes, etc), it usually goes in as "Verdana" size 10 - I'm not sure where this is set - is it the system font, or default FMP font, or simply the last one that was used in that file? Also, if they copy text from the Finder or other apps, it goes in as whatever font and color and size it was in the other app. Is there any way to force all text to always be the same - maybe a script within FMP, or an Applescript when FMP starts up?

Is there a way to reprogram the wheel on a mouse on windows, through scripting in filemaker, and so this new behaviour only applies in filemaker? I have a strange, potentially big problem that just popped up. This morning I tried to work on a database I am developing for my school district. I worked on the db two days ago, no problem. Today the files opened, but I am locked out of editing privileges, ie. I can not change permissions or passwords, define fields or scripts, but I can access the Layout mode. I am using the same full access master password I have always used, but the db acts like I am using a limited password I set up for admin. I have checked all passwords. All are limited access. I am migrating a database written in FMP v3 that I did not write to FMP v7. I have found that the author uses tests like: If ( <condition> ; 1 ; GetAsNumber("") ) ...in number fields that act like boolean flags. Does anyone have any idea why he would use GetAsNumber("") to mean false instead of the number zero? I'm not even clear on what GetAsNumber("") returns-- I think it sets the field to empty/no value. Please can someone tell me how to make a button appear greyed-out and un-pressable? I've come across it in a stand-alone database (from Developer), but I can't access the code. The idea would be to make a button "live" only when certain fields have been filled in. Can it be done without a plug-in? If not, what plug-in would I need? If I could trigger a layout from a field, I guess I could do it that way. But how?

I would like to strip the letters off each one, leaving just the number, and then combine each record. That I have no idea how to do, but here's the way tricky part. Hi, I am trying to set up a database where the operator types a few letters of a name, clicks a button and is taken to a form to fill in other data. Clearly, I can use find view then go to the form but I am hoping to cut down the steps. The other thing I would like is for the operator to be able to type letter combinations from anywhere in the name ie first name or last name. Pop up lists won't identify multiple examples of a name eg smith. If I use a concatenated First and Second name in a pop up it is better but I can't go from there to the form with that client's details. Any ideas Thanks David Devitt

I am trying to get the first 40 records of the field "id" into a new field "id_numbers". I bulit a script to do this with loop and set field for id_numbers but I do not know how to script or define a calculation that would take the first 40 records and put it into a new field then grab the next 40 records and put it into the next id_numbers record. Here's what I am making: I am trying to get a list summary of our products' sales. For each record I want to put a new product. On the sheet of the record/product I want a list of each months sales. With it I want to insert the month sales and products sold (so unit sales and monatary records). I have made a field for the month of sales and well as each sales thing to track. I want the monthly one to be seen as well as a running total for individual product. But I want to keep this all together on one record. Does anyone know of a way to disable the wheel mouse scroll action - but just for filemaker? I'm developing a custom solution which will be relying on a script to move between records, obviously if people are just scrolling down using the wheel mouse, the scripts aren't being performed. It seems that the web log (access.log) that the Web Companion produces records activity for one week and then starts over again. Is this normal activity or have I set up something improperly? Shouldn't it accumulate beyond one week? Also, is their an easy way to sort out Filemaker served pages so I can find out which records are accessed most often? We have a Mac OSX Server (Panther) running Filemaker server and another running the client with the Web Companion Plugin. We are a school and the purpose of this is so parents of the students can check attendance, missed work, and etc. We are using cdml of course to move some variables from the web to filemaker. Each time a new record is created, the next available 'Pro' number is automatically input to the PRO field. It's just an auto-entered serial number, obviously.
