I have a SBS2003 server that currently only serves a small workgroup for file sharing and printing, i.e., Exchange is not being used. I'd like to add FMP7 Server to this box. After reading through the postings on various FMP forums, it seems to me that FMP7 Server will run on a Windows SBS 2003 server, although FMP is not 'tested' nor recommended by FM for this configuration. Does anyone have any experience with running FMP7 Server on a Windows SBS 2003? I'm curious if there are any issues?

I have FM5 Pro Unlimted on a Win2k Box. Recently having problems with connectiong via host and openning DBs that were able to do before, after creating new win2k user account. We created two accounts on the Win2k Box, one for me, and one for everyone else. We added the startup script for both accounts, and when either log on, it starts, and the web companion works. Problem is: When new account logs in, nobody can connect via host. Ok, so I thought that account needed to be Power User (Didn't Work) so I changed that account to Administrator (Didn't work) The only thing I can think of, is that it has to be the account which installed the FileMaker Pro,…

Every time I open this server-hosted file, it has forgotten where the user dictionary is. I have tried opening it as single user (i.e. closing the server and opening in FileMaker Pro), and then starting it up again with the server, but same problem. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on fixing? The dictionary seems to be referenced on a file by file basis. I can select the dictionary in one file and it will be retained untile the file is closed, while at the same time, another file still doesn't see the dictionary until I select it. ( Server 5.5 OSX, client FileMaker Pro or Dev 6 OSX. Clients have experienced this on various platforms. )

I have our FM Advanced Server 7 set up to use windows authentication. It works when accessing the database via a FMP client. When I try to access the same database via IWP, it does not accept my windows username & password. It just keeps prompting me for it. Is this a limitation of IWP? I haven't been able to confirm this. Or do I need to change a setting somewhere. Any help is appreciated! John

I am using Filemaker v5. A newbee myself, i just tried to migrate a user from her old PC to a PC that has not been in use for a while. but it has FM already installed (and the Database was used on it before). I tried to open the host file and select the default database to open when she opens filemaker, but the host list is not populated with the database files. When i click host button, it tries to look for TCP/IP connection and hangs. I know the PC has network connection. then if i try to open the file from the copy of the database that i put on her harddrive, it gives me error 10048 i.e. "Filemaker cannot host a file because of a network error. Files marked as multiuse…

Hello all, I'm trying to do this: I save a cookie in user's browser (I know using sessions variables is much better but right now this means re-write all my CDML converted web site.. I don't think I have the necessary time now).. i use fmxslt:set_cookie() function because is quite simple.. but [color:"red"] I can't kill the cookies .. I tried to overwrite an existing cookie specifying a negative number for expire parameter but it seems not to work. Any ideas? Tnx!

I've recently been attempting to upgrade our FM setup from Server 3 on ASIP to Server 7 Advanced on OS X. I managed to get the databases converted, etc, but am having a pain of a permissions problem. Databases are in the default database folder. Permissions are set so that the fmsadmin group has read and write (I even tried giving Everybody read & write) on both the fp7 files and enclosing folders. For some reason, the fm daemon opens the databases as read-only, so I'm unable to modify them in any way. Files are not locked, checked and re-checked permissions, etc, etc. Any ideas? This one's driving me nuts, and I've gotta have the upgrade rolled out…

We have been having a couple of weird problems while using FMServer 5.5v1 on a Windows 2000 box. Every once in awhile one particular database file stops being hosted by Filemaker Server and the only way to get FMServer to host it again is by stopping and starting the service. I have tried using the command line FMServer open as this file in one level down from the actual filemaker directory but this does not work. I should mention that the install went perfect - all files were hosted and everything worked well for two weeks until this scenario happened. We then stopped the service and tried to start it again and it would not fire up until we specified "run as..."…

I've got Server 5.5 on a Windows server box. I'm hosting serveral files on it, and everything is A-OK. All of the hosted files were constructed using Dev. 6. I recently modified one of the files so that it can export the contents of a field to a plain text file. I has to use a XSL stylesheet to export the text correctly (look at this post for more info concerning that) - http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB13&Number=132991 I'm able to open all of the other files fine, but this new XSL file just refuses to be opened. I made sure in the properties of Server that the file extension was in the 'Registered File Types", but to …

I'm running FIlemaker server 5.5v4 on Mac OS X Panther 10.3.5. After years of humming along fine, suddenly my server hosted files (aliases of which are all inside a sub-folder of the mail FM server app folder) will not open. When I click the "Start Server" button in the FM server app, it reports after a few moments that the server has started, but then no databases area available on the network - nor is the server available for administration like it usually is. The files open fine if I stop FM server and open the files locally using FM client on the server computer itself (no error messages about being closed incorrectly). I have FM server configured to allow hos…

Running with Jaguar it takes about 5 minutes, running the same script in Panther takes 60 minutes or more! Confirmed that it was panther by running the same script from another Panther computer, same problem. Any ideas?

I have to synchronise two FileMaker 7 Server. The problem is that where is one of the FileMaler 7 Server, I can't have more than 1 machine, that means that that machine will only run FileMaker 7 Server. One solution is the famous SyncDek who need a 2e computer who run a FileMaker Pro 7 on it. But, like I said, I can't have a 2e machine. Perhaps, that's impossible to do, but if you have any idea, they are welcome !

I just inherited a little FMP 7 environment (server with 5 clients) to admin. When I try to access the server via the Server Admin utility I can't log in, even with the correct password that's been given to me. I can see the server just fine and can log in by pressing the "ok" button (no password in the field) as a guest I guess, but when doing so I can't see any info like the DB files etc. Is there any way to reset the Administrator's password short of having to reinstall the server? If I have to reinstall, what happens to the DBs we have published to the server? Please help me out FMP gurus--Thanks in advance!

We have FM Server 5 running on OS9. There are lots of databases being served, but only one of them seems to be available via ODBC. This was setup some time ago (before I got here) for use with a PC used for UPS shipment processing. The database that PC uses seems to be the only one that is 'visible'. I can access that data from any number of PC based apps (Excel & VB for example) but I can't see any of the others. I'm not experienced with OS9 so I have no idea where to look to 'enable' the other databases for ODBC access. Thanks for any help.

Hello all you wonderful Forum people, I have Server Advanced. We have 8 licensed Users (WinXP), FM7v3, Windows 2000(3?) and a dedicated host system running Developer 7. I admit I've reached this point with absolutely no time to research the process. I have never used any FM Server version before. I haven't even read the book that comes with Server Advanced. My FM focus is process analysis and user-friendly design. I don't even know if Server Advanced gets installed on our Web Server, our Network Server or our dedicated Host! My question is this: Is this going to be a simple matter of installing the software, setting a few privileges and going home? Would y…

Recently the shared database files running on FileMaker Server 5 on Windows NT have disappeared from the Remote Hosts open screen. Neither the server nor the shared file appears. The auto-opener file I have distributed to all my users simply fails. The files are still being hosted, but the only way to bring them up is to Specify Host... and enter the IP address of the computer hosting FM Server. I have witnessed this behavior before on my Mac (OS 9), but only sporadically. Yesterday I noticed it on a Windows computer, and today, it appears to have affected the entire network. I was messing around with my Scheduled Task backup file and the computer's clock (i…

Hi everyone, I'm about to shoot myself just trying to install FileMaker Server 7 Advanced. Here's my setup: Xserve running OS X Server 10.3.5, fully updated. 2GHz G5, 2GB RAM. Services running: AFP, Apache (completely default), and FIleMaker Server 7. That's it. (FWIW, all appropriate ports open on our firewall.) This Xserve is basically brand new. I've been running FileMaker Server forever, and upgraded to FIleMaker Server 7 about 2 months ago. Thus far it's been running great. We're putting up a new web site that will require a bit of integration with FileMaker Server. So, I had to purchase the Advanced add-on. FM Server 7 and the A…

We have installed Filemaker Server 7 on a Windows 2003 server and upgraded our database from ver 5.5. We are able to access the databases using Remote access and standard Filemaker Log In. However I am trying to implement the External Server Authentication through the Active Directory which exists on a separate server (Win 2K) I have setup several groups with users in them in active directory and created matching accounts within the database. However when all users (except the administrator) try to log on they get the following error message: "Your Access priviliges do not allow you to complete this action." We are currently running FileMaker Server 7 Advanced (7.0v2) on an Mac OS X Server (10.3.6). We have 3 databases that are hosted on FileMaker Server: Accounts.fp7, CCHolidayTool.fp7 and ISP.fp7 Accounts.fp7 and ISP.fmp7 are normal shared databases. CCHolidayTool.fp7 is a web shared database. When FileMaker Server is restarted it only opens Accounts.fp7. The remaining 2 need to be opened manually. Is there something we are missing that is preventing databases 2 & 3 from openning automatically? Thanks, Mike [color:"blue"]

Not much FMP Server experience, so am running into the following problem, and cannot seem to get around it. I have a solution with the following files: (A) "SOLUTION.FP7". It is a multi-user solution hosted by FMPServer. ( "TEMP.FP7". Used solely by an import/export script from file (A). Not viewable by open remote file dialogs, and is not even a shared file (am I reasoning this correctly?) The script in (A) is supposed to just Export a set of records to TEMP.FP7, then call TEMP.FP7 to import them back (into an separate table) and clear all records in TEMP. All without user interaction (file names are set). Works fine on a standalone machine, but when …

How can make changes to layout and fields, without deleting already created records when I upload the newlayout/field format. I ask this question because I am having to make changes to the database layouts, etc, offline, then uploading the changes. Except while I am doing this, new records are being created. I have 6 Unlimited and last year was able to uses Hosts to access databases from another machine. I haven't needed to do this for a few months, and now the Hosts list is empty, even when specifying the IP for the host machine. The only change I can think of is that Panther was installed on the host machine, upgraded from Jaguar. The databases themselves (probably 8 or so) have been unused and unchanged in the last few months. They're still multi-user, TCP/IP, etc. I'm not sure this is Panther related, it's just the most recent major change. Any suggestions? FileMaker Version: 6 Platform: Mac OS X Panther

I've read the numerous threads here regarding VPN feasability and alternatives such as terminal services, but I would like to follow up with a discussion related to my specific situation. 2 offices remotely connected through a VPN hardware solution. Both are using ADSL, and speed is currently 1500/256, but soon to upgraded to 6000/600. FMP Server 7 hosted on OSX, clients running FMP7 on WinXP and 2K. There are about 8 clients on the LAN side of the server and 8 clients on the remote VPN side. How will the performance be for the VPN users on DSL of this speed using the standard FMP "Open Remote" connection? Not all 8 VPN clients will access at the same tim…

I have FMP Server 5.5 running on an Xserve DP G5 with 4 gig RAM. All clients are a mix of Panther, Jaguar, & OS 9.2.2. I have 2 sites accessing these databases. Host & Remote. The remote site is connected via a PTP full T1. There is a significant bottleneck at the remote site when viewing records in any of these databases. Does anyone have a clue whiy the users at the host site see none of this (execept for the obvious 10/100 LAN versus the 1.5 mpbs on the T1) and the remote site users may wait up to 2 minutes to move from one record to the next? Any advice would certainly be welcomed! Puzzled in Indiana ToddGee

I have a bizarre problem that I cannot figure out. Two days ago, I was working on a script of two related files of a 13 file DB hosted on a win Filemaker server (posted this on the FM 5-6 forum also as I am not sure if the problem is client or server side). While creating some calculation files for the script I noticed that performance had severely bogged down when clicking done - when the changes were written to disk. Creating a relatively simple calculation and committing that change took 10-15 seconds, a far cry from the relatively quick time this usually takes. Each record in this particular file has an image field stored in the db originating from jpegs and tifs…

We are having trouble setting up FileMaker Server 7 Advanced (the Web publishing engine). Installation runs smooth. The ID and passcode are set in the server admin. The first time the publishing engine admin is run (localhost/fmi/config) it prompts for the admin username/password, the publishing engine server address (localhost) and the web publishing engine username/password. The initial admin screen is good. Continuing on to the web publishing engine configuration asks for the publishing engine server address and then enter the username/password for the publishing engine. It then claims the username and/or password is not valid. We have tried this on two separate…

What is the best practice for modifying a FileMaker solution hosted on FMS7? Can FMP client run on the server hardware alongside FMS? With FMS down, can the FMP client be used to do design changes to the solution at the server machine (on a copy, of course)? Can the FMP client be up at the same time as Server? Can all design functions be done from a remote machine with admin priveliges? Any comment will be greatly appreciated. ~Dennis

I really need some help. Background: using FM 7 Server, FM 7 Server Advanced, Windows 2003 Server, IIS 6. BTW, I have this (see below) working with previous version---FM 6 Pro Unlimited and Web Connector using CDML but am forced to upgrade to FM7 Server Advanced because Web Connector is not compatible with IIS 6 on my new server, thus the upgrade to FM 7 etc. Bummer. I know nothing about xml/xslt except for what I am trying to glean from FM documentation. Another note, I cannot get FM Site Assistant to work. I have, what I believe to be, a fairly simple database of six files with some relationships. I need to allow users to be able to view data via t…

Hi, How do I pass data from form fields inside a simple html page to a filemaker database? Right now our web page is being hosted on a separate IP and I would need to make a call to our database which is on another separate IP and insert the records the user typed in on our web form into our database automatically and then return to a thank you page. Error checking would be nice but is not required. That's it. How the heck do I do that? Thanks in advance! Eric...

I'm having trouble getting external authentication to work on FilemakerPro Server 7. I am attempting to use Windows domain authentication. * I have the user setup in the database for external authentication. * The user is setup to log in as a service on the fmpro server and domain controllers. When I attempt to log in, the user doesn't authenticate, and keeps getting reprompted for username/password. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks, Enzo

Hello, I currently have a FM Server version 5 on a windows 2000 computer, and would like to transfer the database on that server to another server that has FM Server version 7. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to transfer the database from one to the other, since the file formats are different. I changed the formats to the *.fm7 but the database still couldn't start. If anybody knows how to transfer databases from FM Server v5 to FM Server v6, please let me know. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I have a handfull of websites with the following setup. Filemaker server 5.5 hosting the databases. A second osx box running filemaker 6 pro with the databases open, Web Server Connector running and apache serving up my html pages. I see that Filemaker 7 has a few options for web publishing but it looks like they all create the web pages for you. If I want to continue to use my own html do I still use Web Server Connector with 7 or is there another option?

I have a copy of FM Server that I do not know how to implement. I have a solution that has two users who are allowed to make changes, and four users that are allowed to look at the data, but not make changes. The two "blessed" users serve different functions, but their files depend on each other's integrity and relationship. I have kept these files in sync by editing them each week and handing them back to the two users on each Monday, but it is time to turn it over to everybody. I want the four "No Changes Allowed" users to be able to make thier own layouts, do searches, etc. but not be able to change anything in any of the files. The solution consists of…

I've installed FM Server Advanced with the Web Publishing Engine and its serving up pages just fine. When I go into Site Assistant it won't connect to the server. I use the same address as the web server and publishing engine. Site Assistant either gives me a message that it is "Unable to connect to localhost" (or whatever IP I enter). Or it asks me for a user name and password. I've tried the name and PW I set up in Admin Console and a few others for good measure ;-), but the result is the same... "Unable to connect..."

I have just spent a couple K to transform myself from a capable CDML creator into a helpless XSLT nincompoop. I need help at the what-files-do-i-need-and-where-do-they-live level. A web page collects my first and last name. It ends up in a filemaker 7 db. The result file web page says hi <<first>> <<last>>. Is that first page that collects the data a regular old html page, or is it a page generated by a stylesheet, or is it a stylesheet? Or none of the above? Are stylesheets read directly by browsers, or does FMPSA turn them into html pages. I used a converter on some old CDML pages and got stylesheets but don't know what to do wit…

...then you will get a medal of honor from me! Installation of the server and the web publishing engine is piece of cake. But configuring the whole thing is a new thing for filemaker developers. Some of us just don't have the knowledge for configuring web services on a server. The manuals are quite fine, but basicly it all boils down to references to other manuals that refer you 'again' to another manual. I'm trying to get one test database available to the web trough the filemaker server advanced solution, but it just doesn't work. Sometimes the server hosts the xsl files, and another moment you can't connect to the web publishing server at all, even not with…

I have been able to connect to my FM 7 hosted files on my FM Server 7 machine locally and remotely on the LAN and through the internet. My problem is I am trying to connect to the FM server with the FM Server Admin software through the internet. I have been able to do it with another machine on the LAN but I need to do it via the internet. I know the port numbers for connecting the hosted files, port 5003. I have tried the port 25003 and 50003 to administer the server but none of them work. I have set our gateway router to forward these ports to our server machine. Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong. FM Server 7v2 Mac OSX 10.3

All my clients are on FileMaker 6 and the server is FileMaker 5. I have approximately 25 clients accessing a multi database solution. When one of the clients opens a particular database it takes it 45 minutes to open and the rest of the databases open fine. All of the other clients have no problems opening this or other databases. This problem has progressively gotten worse. Started out taking 20 minutes and is now up to 50 minutes. I suggested he move computer to another LAN connection and he still has the same problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Stacey McDonald

Hello! I wasn't sure exactly where to post this so I figured I would start with the version we are using here at my workplace. Here's the deal... We are slowly but currently migrating to G5 OS X (10.3.x to be exact) and have a number of users using FM 6 on both OS X and OS 9. I have run across a situation in one of our departments where an FM database that three users share over our network suddenly will not share since I upgraded one of their Macs to OS X v6 of FM. When I open the database from the OS X Mac, the others in OS 9 cannot open the file. The OS 9 users get an error of: "the file name" is currently in use and could not be opened. The file is single-user or th…

Hello! I've been trying to configure FMServer Advanced to serve my database file over port 591, but I can only get it to work over port 80 (default). Where does one specify the port in Advanced? I see where to do this in the standalone version (File->Sharing), but don't see anything comparable in the Advanced version. Also, do I need to do anything to my Apache config (httpd.conf) file from the default OSX Panther installation? Thanks for any advice. Colin

After installing FileMaker 7 Server and Server Advanced, I am trying to configure it. I go to http://localhost/fmi/config and a screen comes up to enter an user name and a password (this is the first time I use so there is no username/password setup yet). I choose a username/password and click apply. But the server timesout and I can not proceed to the next screen. Anyone has ideas what I have wrong? I am using IIS as web server and have already unchecked the option "Integrated Windows Authentication" but it still does not work. THanks, THiago

Hello there, I am not sure if this is the best place to post this - I couldn't see a forum that it seemed entirely appropriate to. Anyways... I wanted to see if it is possible to create desktop/start menu shortcuts on a client machine to a hosted database served from FMP server. We are using windows 2000 and fmp6. My clients are getting fed up having to open fmp, then go to hosts, then select the database. There has to be an easier way! I also have a couple of clients on mac so if you have any ideas on that too that would be great. Thanks in advance, Thomas

Hi, FileMaker Server 5.5 I've currently got an overnight scripted FTP backup of our database setup and it works ok. I was wondering if anyone else here had a backup running through FTP? What tools in windows did you use to script it? Basically I run a local backup of the databases then trigger an external script to run. I use a free scripting engine called AutoIt and basically I just send keystrokes to the windows ftp command-line program - but this tends not to be very reliable. Not very good for an offsite backup!! If there's any kind of error there's no way for my script to recover - and there's no way using AutoIt for me to get the erro…

This is my first experience posting, and I'm new to FileMaker Server too, but of the 54 tables I've just installed on my server, only 35 appear when I "open remote" through FM7. I can't find any related threads on this topic on this site. Here are some of the things I've checked: My configuration (Mac OS) is set to allow 125 tables. All files are have the same read/write privileges My data log file clearly says all 54 tables "opened". My FileMaker Server Admin program also shows the files as opened. But I can't locate them all using FileMaker 7 for some reason. I see no pattern comparing the ones that don't appear versus the ones that do. By…

Hi: Can anyone help me? My story: I have a single-processor G4 667MHz with 1GB of RAM that I wanted to turn into a dedicated FileMaker server. It was running OS 9.2 at the time, so I wiped it clean and installed Jaguar, FMServer 7 and Server 7 Advanced. I took me a while, but I had it running fine for about 2 weeks. IWP was working too. I hadn't fully developed my databases, so I wasn't running the machine 24-7 yet. But I was just about ready to do so. Then one day, when I started up the machine, FMServer didn't auto-start. When I opened the console, I got: "Connection Failure. FileMaker Server "(localhost)" (127.0.0.1) is not running. Would you like to s…

Hi, I have a client that has a Dual 1ghz Mac OS X server with 768mb ram. It is running Mac OS X server v 10.2.8 and only the Apple file service is runnig with 4 users connecting and light file transfers. We just loaded FM Server for a newly devloped database and performance is slow at best, they were on 10mb ethernet and I upraded them to 100mb with a slight imporovement. I am quessing that the server needs more ram but my filemaker developer thinks maybe Mac OS X Server version 10.2.8 that is getting in the way and Panther server will solve it (he actually recommended Panther client and turning filesharing on but I don't want to go that route). Can anyone lend a sugges…

I get the following error at the end of the installation process: "Opening Key /LM/W3SVC/1/Root Failed ...default" my only option is to select "Ok" which then leads to a final screen stating that the installation was interrupted and not successful. I am looking for a way for my users to upload files into container fields via an Instant Web Published application. I am running File Maker Server Advance, and my users will be accessing through their browser, usually Internet Explorer. So I took delivery of a new machine to run FileMaker Server for one of my clients today! (Server 5.5 and Windows 2000 Server) It's pretty good!! Two 10,000 RPM SATA drives striped gives it mental performance. What utils can I use to monitor performance of the server? Obviously taskmgr and the performance console of filemaker server gives you some filemaker server-specific stats. Just wondered what everyone else used to monitor their filemaker servers? Thanks Ben

I have successfully install FMS Advance working. It's running on Win2003 with IIS but i find the performance to be slower than Instant Web Publishing ON Filemaker 7 Developer. I have tried cacheing the database and increasing the flush time. No avail and also restricting web connections in IIS to 2000 which is our school population. The database has only 80 records in a portal and actually took 1-3 seconds to slowly load to the portal. The performance is bareable however any ways of improving it would be nice. Thanks ya.., I will try the patch to v2 shortly.
