FileMaker Pro 18

Aggravating behavior. I've got some send event commands that still work with FM18 under Mojave, but do not work under Catalina. Pretty simple commands - one is to simply open up a directory and the other is to launch an MP3 file using whatever the default media player is (I've tried leaving it a the new "Music" app and as Quicktime player. These files play fine when launched on their own but I can no longer launch them using the send event command. Also, for what it is worth, If I try to set an application (versus a document) in the send event script, It never changes - still says <unknown> at the top. Odd indeed. Any help would be appreci…

My daughter accesses my server here with a desktop client. Both server and client are version 18 all up to date. Last night her husband was having issues and did a permissions reset on OSX. Now it appears the client cant even see the internet. It can't find the server here. I tried deleting the host on her end to re-ad it and it can't even see the server to add. There are other clients and phones having no issues. We made sure the permissions in Get Info was correct and they are. Anyone else run into this? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys - maybe some of you have been getting snapshots from ip-cams (axis, hikvision)... I have had a system running for YEARS with no problem, suddenly after a firmware update, this snapshot (image.jpg) doesnt work anymore... Have you maybe found a workaround...???

Hi All, I added security to limit the DataAPI user from accessing certain records, with the limited option. I tested this while running these files on my HD no server. Worked like a charm. After moving the files to FMServer the DataAPI account can access all record in the table all of a sudden. Any thoughts as to why this is happening? Kind regards, Joost

If a user accesses a file via WebDirect on a mobile device, what is the easiest way to let them take a photo and capture it in the system? Do they have to take a photo outside of the file and then upload it, or there a faster/better way to take the photo and capture it in fewer steps?

Is anybody else seeing an issue with exporting to .xlsx in FMP 18? I have a scripted find/export that has never been a problem before. But, ever since I updated to FMP 18 I sometimes get errors with the Excel spreadsheet that is created. As you can see in the attached, if I make my changes and hit save it says I have to Save a Copy (if I use the same name it saves over the top of the open file just fine) because the original spreadsheet was an "older version of Excel". I have a date field that is set by record created date, whenever I create a new record in this table it enters the current date. This is a phone log field so there are literally hundreds of thousands of records. I'm trying to create a calculation that displays the today, if the record created date is current date, and yesterday if it was yesterday and all other should be the date itself but when I create this calculation, it doesn't seem to update on a daily basis and just shows today even if the date was yesterday, unless I create a new record. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here?

Working on an inventory bin consolidation solution, I have a portal that shows all of the locations & qty for an item. I also have a drop down that the user marks as yes to move, the qty they want to move, and the bins with the same item in them. I would like to filter out the current bin from the drop down, the current value list is the location field from the "count" table. Suggestions?

having trouble with calculating related fields scenario: inventory bin consolidation app Item 3AT17 is in 5 locations - 2 locations have just 1 unit, other 2 have 36, 65, 94 units. we want to move the two single units to the 36 unit bin. Hi All Apparently FMI knows about this, and their advice is as follows The problem for me is I don't have an SSL certificate and am using the in-built FM certificate. I would have thought the in-built certificate would at least let me import from the hosted file, especially as I did this from the desktop of the server. The script doing the import has not changed for many years and still runs fine on pre-18 servers. Other than purchasing an SSL has anyone get a solution, without resorting to downloading the hosted files and running locally (I'm trying to avoid that step). Thanks

Hi, I have some FMP development experience but more so on the intermediate level. We have a FMP database, hosted on a FMP server, that we use to track a bunch of our digital signs. All the data in the db is manually entered with fields such as 'name' and 'ip_address'. Sometimes these signs go offline, hangup, change ip addresses, etc. I had the idea to have the remote signs call a url every hour that is our signage db hosted on our FMP server. I just updated my office to filemaker 18 and I have a script that imported records but skipped the first row which are all titles. I don't see a skip first row checkbox in the import interface anymore?

I have a parent table with 3 child tables. In the child table, there can be many related fields. I need to export only one row of data for each record in the parent table. This would require that a new column be created for each of the many values related in the parent to the child. I have data in 2 tables ( let's say Table A and Table B ) that are linked. In the table view of Table B, I added a field (let's say TA-field 1) with a number format from Table A . My problem is that I cannot adjust the number of decimals of the TA-field 1 in the table view of Table B. Even if the TA-field 1 has 2 decimals (in Table A), in the table view of Table B, it has 0 decimals. How could I fix the number of decimals of TA-field 1 in the table view of Table B ?

Hello! I am building a database and came up this little problem can help. The identification number is composed of 9 digits, the first 8 digits being in series and the last one is digit check based on the algorithm of Luth, that is, instead of confirming and manually entering the identification number, there would be no a calculation / script that when creating a new record it created an identification number with the requirements above. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this before. I need to import about 20 ledgers into Filemaker. This would obviously be very expensive if someone had to type out all of the pages line by line, (I would say 6 months of work). How complicated is it to migrate solutions written under FM Pro 14 to FMP 18? Will I need to rebuild them from 14 to 15 then 15 to 16 etc?

Hey Guys, So we have a runtime solution (windows only at this time) , data and interface in single file (no data separation) and we have just changed all container fields that are accessible to the end users to now use external (open storage). The issue is when saving a backup i use a script to save a copy of the file as self-contained, when i "reformat" the runtime app to have no records and restore from a backup file via script all data is imported except for the container data. So the container data is not being embedded back into the fields as it should, This bug has been reported since as far back as at least FM14 and has persisted in every FM since …

Filemaker 18 now has a popup requesting delimiter information when importing records. I have created a database which has been used for 5 years by my clients, It has an import record script which the user could just run and everything populated properly, after choosing the required file. Now there are shown a new popup and asked to choose delimiters. They now have to know which to choose and it is an extra step which is frustrating for the user. Is there any way to use a default delimiter as it is always the same type of file (tab delimited .txt) imported.

When a field validation fails, alert is displayed then when clicking OK program freezes

I have a field which has validation selected to only known values from a value list (populated from a separate field{Names} ) When I enter an invalid value or leave it blank, I get the alert dialog box from the field definition but then the program freezes and I cannot proceed. Valid values seem to work fine.
