Faxing

FYI - We would like all our users to be able to send FAX's from within our custom FileMaker Application. What are the opinions as to the best method to do this? Is it better to set up a hardware modem? What is the best FAX Plugin? What about receiving FAX's? Thanks in advance

Dear All, I am working on CMS, and I need to call the selected number from the application itself using an icon. Like there will be a phone number beside it there will be icon, when user clicks on the icon, the phone automatically gets rung. no need open skype or something like that. The skype will be opened itself. Please help me, for both mac and windows.

I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has successfully implemented faxing within FMPro. I have v11 Advanced. What I am looking to do is to click a button, which is generate a dynamic PDF, then send a fax (based on a fax number in table) through an internet faxing server (e.g. myfax). Hi, I search the archive but I cant find appropriate solution for me. I want to send invoices via fax for multiple records (so the content of the fax message is depend on the data in the fields for each record). We have a PC with a fax server on it (GFI brand). Filemaker Server 9 is on the PC, and when a user sends a fax, Filemaker drops a text file into a watched folder, and the GFI Faxmaker processes and sends the file. Works great. We are switching to a Mac to host the Filemaker Server 9 solution, and when Filemaker drops the text file into the watched folder on the networked PC, Faxmaker will not process the file. Any ideas why?

Hello I am not the programmer.. I do not want to reinventing the wheel.. but send a fax! What so difficult.. FM can send out several way, activeX or DLE to windows app right? Can I use VBScript to automate faxing out of FM on Windows XP Pro(using the built-in fax server) and bypass the fax wizard? I understand that this is possible with Windows Server but not XP Pro due to the way that objFaxDocument.ConnectedSubmit(objFaxServer) works. Thanks! James

All information seems to be very dated info regarding faxing solutions. Need fresh help. I can fax using Windows 2003 fax server but need to automate the process - get that silly wizard everytime. I want to be able to send 10 1 page faxes to 10 fax numbers with numbers being pulled from database - and lose the silly wizard. Watched a tutorial on VB Scripting that looked like it will do it but can't get it implemented - and it is over 2 years old (v6). Any help would be appreciated.

I hope this forum isn't completely dead. I used to have PageSender working from a client machine, and it would send with a combination of ScriptMaker and AppleScript. I'm moving faxing over to to the server, where I'm trying to set up a copy of FM to do nothing but sit there and look for records that need to be faxed. Well, now PageSender won't work. The AppleScript runs fine, but the print dialog comes up with no phone number. The PageSender example has the print dialog set to restore, no dialog. I tried getting restore to work, but when I click the Print button I get an error for not having a phone number. No dialog works, but then Page Sender just …

Newbie! Warning this is confusing ! I'm administrating a small office(5 WS/1Server)w/FMS 8.v03. The managers send out faxes on clients to other professionals. In 100 faxes 1 will be sent to a wrong fax number. For example: correct fax number 555.5555, wrong fax number 777.7777. What I know: each and every fax number (250)were check by me and are correct. The referral fax numbers are correct. Using the above, the 5 number is the correct fax number, the 7 number is a referal number and should have not been sent, hence it is wrong. I have found that when I upgraded my systems to Tiger it has broken my ability to use Brother's Fax software in 2 of my Multi Brother units(8840DN and 4750E). Tiger will allow you to fax a text edit program but for some reason it will not allow you to fax a FM document using Brother's software. I have updated my Cups1.1 Driver from Brother. My only workaround has been to save to a PDF then fax through Brother. Sucks! Anyone got a fix. Brother wanted to play the finger game but they know of the problem.

We have used a FileMaker - Applescript - PageSender solution for the last 2 years. Either all the fax-modems in Mac's are sub-par or PageSender still needs help. Yes, the scripting is nice, but the stability is not there - yet.

I have a serious Problem running at my office. we have currently 2 DBs installed using FMP 6 and OSX Tiger. first: Adress Contact Information etc second: Billing Accounting Internals etc. What i would like to do or get somehow is to automatically send a Fax out from the second DB using the Adress info from first DB. There is an unique ID through the client number in both DBs. So the Software would have to recognize the Client ID # from the 2nd DB go to the first DB look the ID up; add the Adress infos (name; adress; fax number) and than merge it together and send it out as a fax... Due to the printer bug in FM7, Pagesender had problems. This is fixed in FM8, I just downloaded trial FM8 and works great with the sample file Pagesender provides.

Anyone ever used FileMaker to send faxes through a Dialogic D/41 4 port telephony board? One of my clients uses this board to make telemarketing type phones calls and would like to be able to fax 4 reports at once instead of one report at a time with a modem. Of course, any scalable parallel faxing solution would be helpful. I haven't seen a FMP plugin for Dialogic boards. Thanks the Mad Jammer

I'm trying to send faxes from FM by printing to the fax modem. I need to put the phone number in though. If I use restore print settings I don't think I can insert field values, but I'm not sure how I would use AppleScript for this either. I'd think that you need to pop up the print dialog and then use AppleScript to set the number, but FM halts until the dialog is dismissed. Any ideas? thanks.

Hi I have been using PageSender for a while with great satisfaction except some unexplained errors now and then. Now that fax is part of the OS, do you think it is better to adapt the apple script that works for page sender to work with the built in fax of osx 10.3? We are a startup company specializing in FileMaker Pro. One of our first products will be a solution to integrate FAXstf with FileMaker 7 for Mac OS X. My question is whether users would prefer an Applescript to send events to, or a FileMaker plug-in that can have parameters passed into it. The plan for this solution is to pass a fax number, company name, and attention-to name into it, and it will create a PDF, and fax it. It will integrate with both the client and server. Found two other solutions. 1) Print to a PDF and then applescript sending to PageSender. I am presently using this with great success. Bit slower than below and relies on a second party software, although not very expensive. I will try to post an example. 2) Print to post script file and use a shell command to send directly to Apple's Fax. Hi Guys, I've been using FaxExpress server for a three user system, where a server is setup to receive and send fax's. This has so far worked fine with OS 9, however my clients are now migrating to OS X, apart from one user which will still be using OS 9 (for legacy reasons). The guys that produced FaxExpress have stopped developing it, so there wont be a port for OSX and FileMaker. Are there any relatively cheap fax server plugins, that will install on an OSX (Server) machine 2 OSX (clients) and 1 OS9 (client). Cheers

I've read through all of the information in the Faxing Forum (having already decided that PageSender is probably the best solution, for Mac) and apart from FileFax, the options for PC appear limited. But even FileFax now seems dated (98/00/NT & OS8, 9 & FMP 4 & 5). I want to be able to send multiple, individually addressed faxes from FileMaker. Is there an option available, that's just like PageSender, but for the PC, or something similar? All responses much appreciated.

When I print out my invoices they look great, however when I fax them to customers they look messy, like wrong font or something. They are hard to read. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm using Arial 10 without Bold. Like I said they look great when I print them, its just every person recieving a fax from me must think: Not very Professional.

I used FaxTool for years in OS9. According to their website, FaxTool is a stand-alone application that translates data and instructions, sent from FileMaker Pro 3.0, 4.x, 5.x, or 6.x, via AppleEvents, to FAXstf faxing software. It worked wonderfully! Unfortunately, when I upgraded to OSX, I lost the ability to send personalized versions of the same fax to 100s of people (kind of like a mail merge, but a fax merge) and I don't really know how to write applescripts or what tools to use. Newbie to Fm forum, been using FM for personal/business for a while. Can someone direct me to a thread or post discussing the use of fax in fm. I'm a surgeon with a surgical case database. I utilize a related db for referring physicians (name, address, ph # and fx #). I would like to fax a letter to a referring md notifying him/her of the fact that the patient they referred just had surgery (date of surgery, nature of surgery, etc.) All the above data has already been collected in seperate fields and is brought together in the new layout (letter). What plug-in for a Windows platform will make faxing work? FileFax seems to have some issues and Soft Communications plug in doesn't work with WinFax 10. What am I missing here? And switching to a Mac isn't an option I am sorry to say.

I am thoroughly confused with faxing options. Here is my set-up: Win XP; FM 6; Server 5.5 The solution is for a limousine booking agency. Each day, they need to fax the bookings for each limo, to the relevant driver. Only one driver will drive a car for one day, and the driver file has a fax number. Originally, with only a few limo's, they printed the booking schedule and manually faxed them. Now that the business has grown, they need to automate the solution. I have database with thousands of records (customers) which are summarized in a layout according to a location number (store). When you summarize by store number, you can print a report for each store en masse. How can you fax each summary instead of sending the bulk of them to one fax number? The database is quite large, so i would rather not have to find and send manually.

Hi I am new to this forum. I would like to start my contribution by making a recommandation to a very good software in my opinion that simplifies faxing from FMP (via AppleScript). Since I moved to OSX, I had tremendous problems with faxing. The software I was using -- FaxExpress -- was not able to do the job anymore although I enjoyed it for a long time. I had wrote some FMP script to automatically send faxes from my FMP databases. Recently a friend pointed out Page Sender (http://www.smilesoftware.com) and it solved all my problems. Dear All, I've designed a customer database which is to be used for checking customers details. I'd like to use the 'Dial Phone' script step to integrate the Database with an IP telephony system (looking at Nortel/Norstar, or maybe Toshiba) to turn the phones into "HOT" phones. I was wondering whether anyone has experience in building such a system? It looks like it would be straight forward as FMP uses TAPI, but we're all a bit more grown up than to think it's quite that easy.... regards J

I am developing a solution for a company that emails and faxes (via eFax.com) a PDF of a FileMaker layout. It will be running on OS X exclusively. Although it seems to be working so far in testing, I have a programming question: In OS X, I have created a Filemaker script using the print/restore command to save a print job as a PDF file (from the OSX print dialog) in a folder called "pdf" in /users/shared/pdf. For example the syntax for the script step 4FaxStartMessage is External ("4FaxStartMessage"; parameter) In the manual I read this command should be used like this External ("4FaxStartMessage"; From | Subject | CoverPage) The script step External("4FaxStartMessage"; fromfield ) is accepted, but what do I do when I want to use the other parameters (Subject and CoverPage) too? we used to pay extra for a seperate phone line, so as to be able to receive faxes automatically if someone called on our dedicated fax line. we since moved from that location, and got our phone company to drop the extra line, but the phone number rings distinctively when someone calls that number. so, our phones ring, but they ring a different type of ring.(ie, if someone calls line 1--our phone line--the phones say"ring ring" and if someone calls line 2--our fax line--the phones say"riiiing riiiiing") when the phone rings, we can tell if it is a fax or not by the type of ring. well, apparently microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided not to include the "distinctive …

FYI, did you know that windows xp has its own fax program, and if you have outlook 2002 you can email your documents to an email address as attachements. It works great, also you can fax the doucements if you wants. Just thought i would drop a line aboue windows xp faxing and email. thanks

Hi, I'm having a problem faxing directly out of my IMAC, G3, Faxstf. When I go to fax a order directly out of the computer it sometimes Unexpectedly quits all open FMP databases. I have found that if I preview the fax first and select cancel instead of send it will do this everytime. I have tried this on a new IMAC running OS X and have the same problem. My question is has anyone here had this or heard of this problem. I have tried using a external modem and the problem still exists. How should I go about solving this issue? I'm trying to integrate my incoming faxes with my filemaker client database. The problem is that the fax software produces a tiff file that cannot be read by Filemaker (5.5) The errror messsage is "proper filters are improperly or not installed" Is there a filter? Is there a good conversion program that can convert to a readable tiff?

I am not able to get faxing on OSX yet. I am using FAX STFX product which faxes fine, but unable to automatically set the name/number faxing to, I have to choose it manually. While this is fine for an occasional fax, it will not work for my batch faxes. Does anyone have any hints? DJK
