    I am sure this is quite simple. I want to type in a client ID from my client table into my sales form which would then enter the clients Name, etc. I have established relationships between the two tables and have layed out fields matching the two tables. When I use find mode in Sales and enter a client ID I get this error: No records match this set of find reguests. After many hours of reading thru th ehelp files I am still at a lose. This should be the easiest thing to do??

    I'm two weeks new to FMP, so I am by all means very much a newbie. Originaly I thought this was a pretty simple problem but I'm no longer sure if it is. I've simplified my situation here; any help would be appreciated. Basically, I want create a record with a visit number attached to it, serialized on CId's. I have a ClientTable with a unique CId and client information and a VisitTable with a visit number (N) and visit ID (VId). A record in VisitTable holds: VId, CId, N, and other info. However I notice that the RecID's for my CDML web files are still vey high numbers, and I'd like to bring them back down - so how do I "reset" the database to think it is young instead of old?     I have an identifier that I want to generated based on other information entered. It seems redundant and chancy to make the user create the identifier when they have to enter in the other info.     I have which I have set to be a button - user clicks on it, a little window displays, they pick the item and it puts the item name in the field , which is defined as a button. However, when they do a find - they click a button i have called find, I put the layout into find mode and I would like to allow them to enter criteria in that field - so one immediate option is to create another layout. (oh this field is set to a gray color and embossed) Is there a way to toggle this button-field to just field and change the color to white?     If I have a field that contains text, seperated by paragraph returns such as: Apple Orange Banana Pineapple Cherry And I have another empty tect field... Is there a calculation that can be used that if I type any of the words contained in the first field, the calculation would return a positive value.     I am working on creating an imaging store for our design department. One of the requirements they want is to automatically import fie height, width, dpi, and pixel information you see in photoshop or even in the window properties into the database fields in FMP.     Hi there, considering myself slightly above newbie (FM) I am stuck with the problem of getting a lookupvalue (number) from another table in the same db. the function inserted refuses absolutely to produce results and is continously balking: The specified field cannot be found.     Hi, Me again. OK, so I have gotten so much help from you people I can't thank you enough. I have figured out my page problem and it is working like a charm. Now, I want to highlight the word in the Page file. I have made a script that will do this but my question is, are all text formatting functions case sensitive. I have a calculation based on what is entered in a global field and all the words that are on that page changed except the ones that were capitalized. Can anything be done about that?

So I created two summary fields Summary_One, Summary_Two, each set as Max of those number fields. When I place these two fields in my subsummary by Subject, I get correct numbers.     Hi, Setting up a calculation of type MyTime - Time(8;0;0) and then formatting the result of such a calculation as HHMM rather than HHMMSS or use any format appears to change the result *displayed* whenever the calculation yealds a result from -1 hour to 0. So that if MyTime is 7:30, the result will display 0:30 rather than -0:30. Above a gap of 1 hour, all is working fine. Tested on French version FMDev7. Is this the same result you get ?

    I'm making a layout for logging my video tapes using timecode ins and outs for my clips. I want to simply type in 8 numerical digits and have FileMaker put a colon in the number after every two digits, so I don't have to type the colons in by hand after every 2 time code digits. I've tried every combination of settings that I could think of in the field options panel etc. I found a layout online, but it required me to type the number in one window, and then it put the number with the colons in another window. For example, a concert may hold two weeks of dates until the tour solidifies and they settle on one particular date. Or a basketball tournament may occur across three days. Thus multiple dates per event.     I have a layout where a text field DESCRIPTION is entered into as an Edit Box. I have another layout that is a form letter and it displays the field DESCRIPTION as a merge field. My problem is that I can not figure out how to force a text line to automatically wrap at the end of the last word on a line rather than breaking words in half.     Hi, part of what I'm trying to develop includes a timesheet and record of tasks undertaken by the user. Basically, I have a table for the Timesheet. On the Timesheet, there is a portal to enter in tasks for the day. The relationship is Accountname and Date, so the timesheet only displays tasks for that User on that specific day.... pretty straight forward. My problem is this, I would like to be able to display the time used in the day as a 'bar' so it is easy to see if there are gaps not accounted for and the user could then ether add in tasks that were forgotten or adjust times of existing tasks.     Is there any way I can limit the number of characters a user can enter in a certain field? I have a script that matches two fields and then displays some related data in a different layout. Lately it will occasionally display the data from a different field in the record. In each of those cases, the field that is being compared in the find has an extra character, usually a space. I'm thinking this extra character may be messing up the search (I'm grasping!) and would like to sound an alert or something if the user exceeds 8 characters in that field. Any ideas? Thanks-- Susan

    I'm building a networked solution for my cabinetshop. My ultimate goal is to be able to save my CAD drawings as PDF files and have them available for view at client stations throughout the shop. I'm having a problem getting the image to show up crisp and readable on the screen. I'm not sure if the problem is software based or hardware based.   45. HELP! Hello I'm new at Filemaker and so far I love it. I do have this one nasty little problem that I'm sure is me just overlooking a setting or preference. What I'm trying to do is drag and drop text from a web page into a FM text field and have it take on the text fields attributes. When I take say Arial text off the web and drop it into my FM text field which is set for Helvetica it does not convert. It stays Arial with the same font size?     Hi, Here's a strange one. I have a field where I have a button set up so when the user presses the button it enters a time stamp in the field. But I don't want the user to have the ability to just go in and modify the time stamp (but I want it visible still).     We have a table of 179 fields, about 80 are calculations. Of the 80.. 35 are set to automatically create indexes as needed 10 are set to index all and the rest are set to do not store calculations. Is there a difference in terms of performance with FileMaker? The reason I ask is because when I defin a new field in that table it takes about 7 minutes for filemaker to finish, after clicking 'ok' to close the define fields dialog and exit back to the regular scrreen.

I set up a list layout using the header for the current bill, and the body for past due amounts. Fields are issue_date for the current issue and past_issue_date for past due.     Constructing an inventory database. Along with all the fields that define the inventory item I have two fields to be used should the item be placed out of service. They are the "date" the item was placed out of service and the other is a comment area. Question 1 The fields in question are: Item Name and DateOOS (out of service).     All, I'm puzzled about how to validate a date field, i.e. to check for impossible or incomplete dates. In FP6 I could do this with the "isvalid" calculation. FP7 seems to be more tolerant. I have 3 numeric fields, Day_n, Month_n and Year_n, and I want to check whether the resulting date is valid. Of course, things like 1/0/2005 or 2/29/2005 should be invalid. FP7 just returns 12/31/2004 in the first case, 3/1/2005 in the second when I use Date_d = Date(Month_n;Day_n;Year_n). Consequently, IsValid (Date_d) always returns 1.     Hi, I have 2 tables, among others, they are tasks - invoiceLine Items table. I have a relation between the two and in the Tasks table i have a calculated field, which is unstored and sums up all the invoice line item records for each task. So, each time an invoice is request is entered, when you look at the tasks table, you'll see the "Total_Paid" field in each record of all the invoice line item records entered with the id in it.     Hello, I'm a bit new to FileMaker and I've come to a situation where I have a Name field for entering a person's full name. However, if in case there is a name too long, FM seems to cut it off when viewing that field in browse mode. However once you click inside the Name field you see the whole name. My main question is, how can I have my database take a full name and perhaps display it in the name field as (first initial of first name and then full last name?). I am wondering if setting a global field in a database will cause problems if the solution is implemented using advanced server 7. For example, Im using a script to add parties to a lawsuit record using a join table. I'm using a global field in the parties table to keep track of what suit the user is adding parties to. What I have done is creat a NOTES table, where it has a few fields to personalize the global fields in the solution. Is there a way to have the user (or me) input into a field the starting number in an auto filled, serialized field without having to go into the properties of the difined field?     I have a multi-file relational database. One file contains a termcode which all other files use. The termcode is declared globablly in the "Admin" database since there is only the one record in that database. My problem is that when I am connected remotely, I can change the value in the field, but when i close the file and open it up again, the value is reset to it's original value. The only way that I have found to change the value is to stop FM Server and open the file locally to change the data. Is there some way that I can do this whithout having to stop the FM server?

I have a table called "Classes" containing a 'Class_number' field (ex. 604) and a table called "Subjects" containing a 'Subject_Code' field (ex. MATH).     Oy. Working on a massive project and one of the things I can't seem to figure out how to do is getting fields to work with each other. This is for a theatre (I'm not a contractor, just someone who works there). We use FMP to do our orders. The way it works now is that we've got a pop-up menu on our orders to choose a show. Then they type in the date and time of the show. What I'm trying to figure out how to do is make it so that when the choose a show from the menu, the date becomes a menu of the dates of the show. Then when they choose a date, the time becomes a menu of the times the show plays on that date. What's the trick to doing this, please? Thanks.

The database is simple: Each record has just the date, amount, debit account, credit account, and description. So far so good. But I don't know how to sum each account.     Hello, An apparent simple thing causes me some headache; I have following 3 fields: "COST", "DISCOUNT" and "DISCOUNT IN %" I want to either enter a $$ amount into field "DISCOUNT" and then get the percentage result of that $$amount related to "COST", OR enter a % amount into field "DISCOUNT IN %" and then receive the $$ amount in field "DISCOUNT". What I did: enter calc for "DISCOUNT" = ("COST" * "DISCOUNT IN %") ./.100 and enter calc for "DISCOUNT IN %" = ("DISCOUNT" ./.     I want to bulk import jpeg images into a container field. I have found some posts related to this but could not figure out how to make them work in my case. I have created an AppleScript that downloads images from the web and renames them "product_ID.jpg" (where Product_ID is a field in the database). 1) I would prefer to have this AppleScript insert the image into the container at the same time it is downloading the file. Otherwise, 2) Importing the images from the folder they have been downloaded into would be fine.     I find the age of a person by using the formula (Get ( CurrentDate )-Birthdate) / 365 The result is a number. The Birthdate is a date. If I use a birthdate of 2/5/1925, I get the answer 80.019 (+more decimals) It is not February yet, so the age should not be over 80 yet. The problem is that I have two fields that dictate if a charge is allowed to apply and if so how much that charge will be. Field A has 3 values set by a valuelist 1.Not Allowed 2.Free 3.Allowed Field B is for entering a value for the charge. If Field A=Not Allowed or Free then the user should not be able to enter B (it should be "greyed out"). Only if Field A=Allowed should Field B be enabled for use. The problem is that it removes any text formatting (italics, underlining) that is in the original fields before the calculation.
